M. van Vugt, mr. G.F.P.V. Palomo Velez Hoorcollege The course will introduce students to the main concepts, theories and studies in the growing discipline of Evolutionary Psychology. The goal is to give students insight into topics central in Psychology from an Evolutionary point of view. Central in this course is whether certain behaviors could be the results of an evolved adaptation to solve problems that our ancestors faced. Possible costs and benefits of these suspected adaptations will then be discussed. During the course we will provide some insights into the following questions: - Why do we have such big brains? - Why do men want to have sex sooner than women? - Why do we help others? - Why do we make war? Inhoud vak This course shows students how to explain human behavior from an evolutionary perspective. During the course we will use this perspective to explain sexuality, cooperation, parenting, aggression, and cognition. The course consists of lectures and students will also do several assignments to practice evolutionary theorizing. Onderwijsvorm Lectures and assignments. Inhoud vak This course offers an introduction into group dynamics from a joint social, organizational, and evolutionary psychology perspective. We analyze and discuss important themes in group dynamics such as group formation, conflict and cooperation, power and leadership, social identity, conformity and obedience, group performance and decision-making, prejudice and intergroup relations. We draw on theory and research from social psychology, neuroscience, organizational and biological sciences to investigate why humans form groups and how group dynamics affect individual and social functioning. The course uses examples from group dynamics in a variety of domains such as business, sports, politics, education, and religion to address such questions as "Are humans basically selfish?" "Do cohesive groups perform better" "Does power corrupt?" "Are there differences between men and women in group behavior?" "How to start a collective", and "Do groups tend to behave in more extreme ways than individuals would do on their own?" A written examination, containing a mixture of multiple choice and open ended questions, and a set of mini assignments challenging the student to apply their theoretical knowledge about group dynamics to the real world. - Forsyth, D. Inhoud vak Bij deze cursus staat de praktijktoepassing van de A&O- psychologie door HRM- adviseurs en afdelingen Personeelszaken centraal. In de vorm van een serie capita selecta wordt dieper ingegaan op de afzonderlijke HRM- modellen en activiteiten op het gebied van in-, door- en uitstroom van personeel en wordt tevens samenhang aangebracht. Buczny Hoorcollege, Werkcollege The aim of the Measurement & Diagnostics 3 course is to provide insight into the key tools and methods that can be used to assess individuals, groups, and organizations and to be able to translate such an assessment into relevant actions or interventions Pagina 3 van 5

7 Inhoud vak During the Measurement & Diagnostics 3 course you will learn the theory behind measurement instruments, so that you know how to apply tests and questionnaires in research and assessment. You will learn to understand the methods, to check whether instruments are reliable, and to check whether those instruments measure what they are supposed to measure. You will learn what kinds of instruments are used in assessment and research and what requirements measurement instruments need to satisfy (e.g., by professional associations). During work groups, you will practice with formulas, analyze the reliability, validity, utility, and adverse impact of measurement instruments, and you will jointly develop an instrument yourself. Onderwijsvorm Lectures and work groups Written exam consisting of open and multiple choice questions Will be announced Overige informatie After completing the course, the student has knowledge of and/or insight in: - the most important quality requirements of measurement instruments and the application of this knowledge to evaluate the quality of measurement instruments; - the (theoretical) background, psychometric quality, and applicability of measurement instruments that are commonly used by assessors/consultants; - the development of a measurement instrument and the examination of its psychometric properties; - different utility and decision-making models and the ability to calculate the utility of measurement instruments; - different models of test fairness and the ability to calculate the adverse impact of measurement instruments; - optimal group composition and the measurement of group-level variables; - different measures at the level of the organization (e.g., organizational culture) which are commonly used in organizations. Every psychologist, regardless of where s/he will be working, must have a strong background knowledge in psychological assessment. For students who want to become a professional psychologist after obtaining their Master diploma, the Psychodiagnostics Registration (Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek; BAPD) of the NIP may give you an edge on the job market. The NIP ( is the Dutch psychologists professional association; it monitors the quality of educational requirements for the training of psychologists who perform assessments on clients. As part of the NIP requirement to obtain the BAPD, students need not only pass the Measurement & Diagnostics 3 course, but they also need to fulfill an internship in which they officially assess three clients. Mortier Hoorcollege, Werkgroep Na het volgen van deze cursus zal de student in staat zijn om - In verschillende contexten een bewuste professionele houding aan te nemen door het toepassen van communicatieve vaardigheden, zelfinzicht en inzichten uit het werkveld van de sociaal en/of arbeids-en organisatiepsycholoog. - Een werkveld van een sociaal of arbeids- en organisatiepsycholoog in kaart te brengen door middel van literatuuronderzoek, internet en een netwerkgesprek. - Wetenschappelijk onderzoek professioneel te presenteren - Zich professioneel te presenteren aan de arbeidsmarkt. - Eigen interesses en talenten maar ook zwakten te benoemen Inhoud vak De werkgroepen bestaan uit twee onderdelen: werkveldoriëntatie en persoonlijke ontwikkeling. Bij het onderdeel werkveldoriëntatie zullen studenten zich verdiepen in de mogelijke werkvelden van de sociaal en/of arbeids- en organisatiepsycholoog. Vragen als Wat voor werk doet een psycholoog en wat voor taken horen daarbij etc. komen aan de orde. Daarnaast zullen de studenten een netwerkgesprek houden met iemand die als S&O psycholoog werkzaam is. Bij het onderdeel persoonlijke ontwikkeling zullen studenten leren om een professionele presentatie te houden, waarbij oa de nadruk gelegd wordt op het maken van een powerpoint, de structuur, hoe omgaan met vragen van het publiek en hoe men overkomt op het publiek. Er wordt gewerkt met zelfreflectie (sterkten en zwakten kunnen benoemen),talenten in kaart brengen en hoe deze ingezet kunnen worden op de arbeidsmarkt. Er zal ook aandacht besteed worden aan het opstellen van een cv, het netwerken, sollicitatie-interview, waarbij alles in een professionele portfolio verzameld wordt. Time management, sociale vaardigheden (zoals nee zeggen, assertiviteit en kritiek kunnen geven en ontvangen) en didactische vaardigheden komen ook aan bod. Studenten zullen zelf een training ontwikkelen en uitvoeren.
