EXCHANGE MEETING TEACH The European Art CHain in ALATRI, ITALIE NOVEMBER 2016 De bijeenkomst in Alatri komt nu snel dichterbij! De leerlingen hebben de taal geoefend, en over de cultuur geleerd en de geschiedenis van het land is nog eens in vogelvlucht behandeld. Zij hebben inmiddels contact gelegd met hun host en de werkgroepen zijn bekend. Ook is er een keuze gemaakt welke bezienswaardigheden zij in Rome zullen bezoeken. Het middeleeuws aandoend stadje Alatri telt enkele bijzondere bezienswaardigheden, waaronder een hoge heuvel met vestingwerken uit de voor-romeinse tijd: de Acropolis. Aan het centrale plein staat de S. Maria Maggiore kerk uit de 12e eeuw, met Romaanse en Gotische bouwelementen. Deze kerk is gebouwd op de resten van een heidense tempel uit de Romeinse tijd. Op het plein tussen de kerk en de school is een fontein in barokstijl, aan de stad geschonken door paus Pius IX. De school, het Liceo Pietrobono, is gehuisvest in het 13 e - eeuwse Conti Gentili paleis. Daarvoor zie je de Pia fontein uit de baroktijd en rechts in beeld de in Borromini stijl gebouwde Scalopi kerk uit de 18 e eeuw.
