1 Press release 29th October 2008 InBev-Baillet Latour Fund and College of Europe to establish the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair of European Union China Relations On Wednesday 29th October 2008, the InBev-Baillet Latour Fund, within the framework of its international policy and with the aim of stimulating relations between the European Union and China, will be signing a new partnership agreement with the College of Europe. This follows the establishment of the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair of European Union China Relations. This academic chair lasts for a period of 3 academic years with the ultimate aim of promoting relations between China and Europe. The Fund is making a total of 330,000 available to the College of Europe as part of this initiative. The Chair will be based in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies. The InBev-Baillet Latour Fund shows interest in European Union China relations. The principal aim of the InBev-Baillet Latour Fund is to encourage and reward human achievements and, in particular, in the fields of science, academia and the arts. Within the context of academic education, the Fund is attaching a growing importance to the exploration of new spheres of research with China as an international player, especially in the area of relations with the European Union. China is currently developing into one of the most important economic and political world powers. For this reason, in May 2008 the Fund established the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair of European Union China Relations in partnership with the UCL and the K.U. Leuven. The ambitions of the two sister universities include the development of a new pool of expertise, the broadening of course offerings for China and international relations studies and the stimulation of intra- and inter-university cooperation. New partnership agreement with the College of Europe in Bruges The InBev-Baillet Latour Fund wishes to provide fresh support for the cooperation between the European Union and China and for this reason is establishing the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair of European Union China Relations in partnership with the College of Europe. The Chair will be based in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies.

2 Press release 29th October 2008 The aim of the Chair is to generate interest in student, academic and public circles (Belgian, European and international authorities) and stimulate multidisciplinary research into relations between the EU and the People s Republic of China, giving students the chance to acquire deeper insight into the dynamic relations between the EU and China. The Chair involves the organisation of a part-time professorship and a half-time post as a research assistant, as well as the regular organisation of conferences, lectures, workshops and other activities. In addition, two scholarships will also be awarded to Chinese students so that they can continue their studies at the College of Europe. Professor Jing Men, who brings years of experience in the field of European relations with China and is already affiliated with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, shall be appointed as the part-time professor and Chairholder of the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair of European Union - China Relations. Giuseppe Balducci will fill the post of half-time research assistant. The Chair runs for a period of three academic years. 3 Press release 29th October 2008 About the InBev-Baillet Latour Fund The INBEV-BAILLET LATOUR FUND was founded in 1974 by Count Alfred de Baillet Latour who was director of the Artois Breweries from 1947 to The principal aim of the Fund is encourage and reward human achievements and, in particular, in the field of science, academia and the arts on the basis of prizes or scholarships. The pursuit of profit is thereby excluded and political, trade union, philosophical or religious convictions are of no importance. The InBev-Baillet Latour Fund is primarily active in the following areas: medical research, Belgian cultural heritage, university education and Olympism. Within the context of medical research, since 1979 the Fund has awarded the InBev-Baillet Latour Health Prize. This prize, worth a sum of 200,000 is one of the most important scientific prizes in Belgium. Since 2006, the Fund has also been issuing the Prize for Clinical Research which provides support for two young Belgian researchers, one from each part of the country. In addition, since 2008 the Fund has supported research into neglected tropic diseases at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. In the field of university education, the Fund finances the InBev-Baillet Latour University Chair at the KUL/UCL, founded on 19 th June This aims to stimulate research into the relations between the European Union and Russia. The Chair in Euromarketing at the Solvay Business School was also established by the Fund. From the academic year 2008/2009, the Fund is also financing the new Chair at the KUL/UCL for relations between Europe and China. The Fund awards scholarships to doctoral students who carry out research in the field of malt-making and brewery technology, to persons undertaking research into relations between Russian and the European Union and to students from the College of Europe. In 2002, the Fund launched a new initiative The In-Bev Baillet Latour programme for the restoration of Belgian movable Heritage. The Fund is hereby responding to the fact that the majority of Belgian cultural projects are awarded to immovable heritage, whereas it is also essential to develop initiatives in the field of the restoration of movable heritage. The Fund is also committed to the environment and sustainable development and supports a number of initiatives in this area. For example, the Fund awards the Environment Prize to a private administrator as a reward for the ecological construction or management of an area of Belgian territory. The InBev-Baillet Latour Fund is also joining hands with the International Polar Foundation via the award of a scientific scholarship for research into climate and environmental change, including at the Princess Elisabeth Station, the Antarctica InBev-Baillet Latour Fellowship Award. The Fund also provides financial support to the Olympic movement and to the Belgian athletes of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee, the Special Olympics (mentally handicapped) and the Paralympics (physically handicapped). 6 Communiqué de presse 29 octobre 2008 La Chaire a pour objectif de susciter l intérêt des cercles estudiantins, académiques et publics (autorités belges, européennes et internationales) et de stimuler la recherche multidisciplinaire sur les relations entre l UE et la République Populaire de Chine. Ce faisant, les étudiants du Collège d Europe auront l occasion de mieux comprendre la relation dynamique UE - Chine. Concrètement, ceci englobe l organisation d un professorat à temps partiel et d un emploi à mi-temps en tant que chercheur, ainsi que la tenue régulière de conférences, d ateliers et d autres activités. De plus, deux bourses d études seront également attribuées à des étudiants chinois qui pourront ainsi poursuivre leurs études au Collège d Europe. Le Professeur Jing Men, qui dispose d une longue expérience dans les relations européennes avec la Chine et qui est déjà lié à la Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), sera désigné en tant que professeur à temps partiel et le Président de la Chaire. Giuseppe Balducci occupera le poste de chercheur à mi-temps. La Chaire s étend sur une période de trois années académiques. 7 Communiqué de presse 29 octobre 2008 Le FONDS INBEV-BAILLET LATOUR a été créé en 1974 par le Comte Alfred de Baillet Latour, qui était administrateur des Brasseries Artois de 1947 à Le Fonds a pour objectif d encourager et de récompenser de grandes réalisations humaines, en particulier dans le domaine scientifique, académique ou artistique, à l aide de prix ou de bourses d études. Il ne recherche aucun profit financier et ne tient pas compte des convictions politiques, syndicales, philosophiques ou religieuses. Le Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour se concentre principalement sur les domaines suivants : la recherche médicale, le patrimoine culturel belge, la formation universitaire et l Olympisme. Dans le cadre de la recherche médicale, le Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour décerne depuis 1979 le Prix InBev-Baillet Latour de la Santé. Ce prix, d une valeur de euros, est l une des principales récompenses scientifiques en Belgique. Depuis 2006, le Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour remet le Prix de la Recherche clinique qui soutient chaque année deux jeunes chercheurs belges, un dans chaque partie du pays. En outre, le Fonds soutient depuis 2008 la recherche sur les maladies tropicales négligées à l Institut de Médecine Tropicale d Anvers. Dans le domaine de la formation universitaire, le Fonds finance la Chaire Universitaire InBev-Baillet Latour à la KUL/UCL, créée le 19 juin Celle-ci a pour objectif d encourager l étude des relations entre l Union européenne et la Russie. Mais le Fonds a également permis de créer la Chaire d Euromarketing à la Solvay Business School. Depuis l année académique 2008/2009, le Fonds finance aussi une nouvelle Chaire à la KUL/UCL portant sur les relations entre l Europe et la Chine. Le Fonds attribue des bourses d études à des doctorants qui effectuent des recherches dans le domaine du maltage et de la technologie brassicole, à des personnes qui étudient les relations entre la Russie et l Union européenne et à des étudiants du Collège d Europe. En 2002, le Fonds a lancé une nouvelle initiative. Le programme InBev-Baillet Latour pour la Restauration du Patrimoine mobilier belge. Ce faisant, le Fonds réagit au fait que la majorité des projets culturels belges se consacrent au patrimoine immobilier, alors qu il est également indispensable de développer des initiatives en matière de restauration du patrimoine mobilier. Le Fonds se préoccupe également de l environnement et du développement durable en soutenant plusieurs initiatives dans ce domaine. Ainsi, le Fonds décerne le Prix de l Environnement à un gestionnaire privé pour récompenser l aménagement ou la gestion écologique d un domaine belge. Le Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour se joint aussi à l International Polar Foundation en octroyant une bourse de recherche scientifique pour l étude des changements climatiques et environnementaux, notamment à la station Princesse Elisabeth. Il s agit de l Antarctica InBev-Baillet Latour Fellowship Award. Le Fonds accorde également un soutien financier au mouvement olympique et aux athlètes belges, tant aux athlètes du Comité Olympique et Interfédéral belge qu à ceux des Special Olympics (handicapés mentaux) et des Paralympics. 9 Persbericht 29 oktober 2008 Het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour en Europacollege richten de Leerstoel InBev-Baillet Latour Europese Unie-China op In het kader van haar internationale politiek en het stimuleren van de verhoudingen tussen de Europese Unie en China ondertekent het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour woensdag 29 oktober een nieuwe samenwerkingsovereenkomst met het Europacollege. Hiertoe werd de Leerstoel InBev-Baillet Latour Europese Unie-China opgericht. Deze academische Leerstoel loopt over een periode van 3 academiejaren en heeft als ultieme doelstelling het bevorderen van de relaties tussen China en Europa. Het Fonds stelt hiervoor in totaal euro ter beschikking van het Europacollege. De Leerstoel zal worden ondergebracht in het Departement Internationale en diplomatieke betrekkingen van de Europese Unie. Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour toont interesse voor Europese relaties met China Het belang van China Het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour heeft tot doel grote menselijke verwezenlijkingen in het bijzonder op wetenschappelijk, academisch of artistiek gebied aan te moedigen en te belonen. In het kader van academische vorming hecht het Fonds een groeiend belang aan het verkennen van nieuwe onderzoeksterreinen met China als internationale speler, in het bijzonder op het gebied van de relaties met de Europese Unie. Nieuwe samenwerkingsovereenkomst met Europacollege Het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour wenst de samenwerking tussen de Europese Unie enerzijds en tussen China anderzijds opnieuw te steunen en richt hiervoor samen met het Europacollege de Leerstoel InBev-Baillet Latour Europese Unie-China op. Concreet behelst dit het organiseren van een deeltijds professoraat en een halftijdse betrekking als onderzoeker, alsook het regelmatig inrichten van conferenties, lezingen, workshops en andere activiteiten. Daarnaast zullen ook twee studiebeurzen worden uitgereikt aan Chinese studenten, zodat zij hun studies aan het Europacollege kunnen verder zetten Het is Professor Jing Men, die een jarenlange expertise geniet op het gebied van Europese relaties met China en reeds verbonden is aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), die zal worden aangesteld als deeltijds professor en Voorzitter van de Leerstoel. 11 Persbericht 29 oktober 2008 Het FONDS INBEV-BAILLET LATOUR werd in 1974 opgericht door Graaf Alfred de Baillet Latour, die van 1947 tot 1980 bestuurder was bij de Artois Brouwerijen. Het Fonds heeft tot doel grote menselijke verwezenlijkingen in het bijzonder op wetenschappelijk, academisch of artistiek gebied aan te moedigen en te belonen aan de hand van prijzen of studiebeurzen. Winstbejag is daarbij uitgesloten en politieke, syndicale, filosofische of godsdienstige overtuigingen spelen geen enkele rol. Het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour is voornamelijk actief in de volgende domeinen: medische onderzoek, Belgisch cultureel erfgoed, universitaire vorming en Olympisme. In het kader van medisch onderzoek reikt het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour sinds 1979 de InBev-Baillet Latour Prijs ter Bevordering van de Gezondheid. Deze prijs, goed voor een geldsom van euro, is een van de belangrijkste wetenschapsprijzen in België. Sinds 2006 reikt het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour de Prijs voor Klinisch Onderzoek uit die jaarlijks twee jonge Belgische vorsers, één uit elk landsgedeelte, ondersteunt. Het Fonds kent studiebeurzen toe aan doctoraatsstudenten die onderzoek uitvoeren op het gebied van mouterij en brouwtechnologie, aan personen die onderzoek doen naar de relaties tussen Rusland en de Europese Unie en aan studenten van het Europa College. In 2002 heeft het Fonds een nieuw initiatief gelanceerd. Het InBev-Baillet Latour-programma voor restauratie van het Belgisch roerend Erfgoed. Het Fonds speelt op deze manier in op het feit dat de meerderheid van de Belgische culturele projecten toegewijd zijn aan het onroerende erfgoed, terwijl het ook essentieel is om de initiatieven op het gebied van restauratie van roerend erfgoed uit te bouwen. Het Fonds is ook begaan met het milieu en duurzame ontwikkeling en steunt verschillende initiatieven in dit domein. Zo reikt het Fonds de Prijs voor het Leefmilieu uit aan een privé-beheerder als beloning voor de ecologische inrichting of beheer van een Belgisch grondgebied. Het Fonds InBev-Baillet Latour slaat ook de handen in elkaar met de International Polar Foundation via het toekennen van een wetenschappelijke studiebeurs voor onderzoek naar klimaat- en milieuverandering, onder meer op de Prinses Elisabeth basis, de Antarctica InBev-Baillet Latour Fellowship Award. Het Fonds kent eveneens financiële steun toe aan de Olympische beweging en aan de Belgische atleten en dit zowel aan de atleten van het Belgisch Olympisch en Interfederaal Comité als aan de atleten van de Special Olympics (mentaal gehandicapten) en van de Paralympics.
