3 Intrductin. Wh are we Open Hearts fr Kids is a Dutch registered nn-prfit rganizatin, which has the s-called ANBI status by the Dutch tax authrities. This entitles Dutch dnatrs t deduct their dnatins frm their incme tax, in accrdance with the Dutch tax law. Each persn invlved with Open Hearts fr Kids has a passin fr children, with medical prblems, that mainly live in Third Wrld cuntries. Why mainly Third Wrld cuntries and nt, fr example, lcal Dutch children? is a recurring questin. The answer is easy; ur health system cvers these types f medical peratins. Hwever, in many f these ther cuntries there are n medical means t help these children and they are nt cvered via any insurance. It is ur visin t raise sufficient (financial) supprt in rder t be able t help at least 2 children per year by finding a hspital in which they can receive the necessary medical treatment. With the medical help that these children can get in the Netherlands they have hpe fr a better future. The bard members, and many ther vlunteers invlved, d this in their free time withut receiving payment / salary fr their wrk. Of curse, direct csts related t the care f the child and/r fundraising prgrams are reimbursed. Wh are the children Children with medical (heart) prblems, wh mainly live in Third Wrld cuntries. 4 Prvided care in this year Hspitalized; This means we had the child cme t the Netherlands and arranged an peratin in a hspital. We ended last year s annual accunt with the reprt abut Yugi Shitambali frm Tanzania, whse health had becme increasingly wrse by the date f departure, that we had t decide nt t have him cme t the Netherlands. We did hear hwever, that he received a successful peratin later n in India and that he is ding well. When we were in cntact with the dctr in Tanzania, we were als requested t help anther girl, Nami Mwanji, but at that time Yugi was mre urgent than Nami. Due t the fact that Yugi ultimately did nt cme we decided t fcus n Nami, and used the dnatins we had received s far, fr having her cme t the Netherlands fr an pen heart peratin. Nami Mwanji frm Tanzania Nami was picked up in Tanzania by dr. Velberg, advisry t ur bard, and mr. G. Alderden. They arrived n the 9th f February in the Netherlands and Nami was successfully perated n the 2nd f March Dr. Velberg and mr. Alderden brught Nami hme t Tanzania n the 5th f April, where her father and the lcal dctr met them. 5 Nami is a very nice and strng yung lady, wh was being creative and active during her time in the hspital. One f the main reasns fr dr. Velberg and mr. Alderden t g t Tanzania tgether, was t see if there wuld be an pprtunity t make a lng term cmmitment / partnership with the lcal (medical) rganizatins in that cuntry. We have cncluded that this, n a shrt term, will nt be an ptin fr us. A few reasns are: 1. Finding (reliable) lcal medical cntacts, wh can infrm us in a timely manner abut the needs and/r situatin f the child and its (family) situatin, was nt satisfactry fulfilled. 2. Ebla, spreading thrughut Africa, caused us t be mre reluctant. 3. We d nt have sufficient resurces t d a thrugh investigatin abut partnerships in general in the cuntries that we receive help requests frm. We d want t write that we have fund, as in many ther situatins these past years, that there are many lcal peple in the hme cuntry f the child wh unselfishly spend time, mney and ther resurces t help a specific child in need. We cannt express ur gratitude enugh, n behalf f the child that has received the peratin and has returned t their hme cuntry. It is ur hpe and prayer that they themselves maybe ne day will be capable t help thers wh are in need. 9 Ntes t the Balance sheet The shrt Term Receivable f EUR 55,- at the Clsing Balance was an invice that was paid by direct debit fr a website that is nt part f ur rganizatin. This has a histrical backgrund and the utstanding amunt will be reimbursed by the wner f that website. The Transitria Debit is interest t be received and Credit is fr bank csts t be paid fr Q4. Currently we have EUR in ur General fund that is currently assigned fr a new child. By the time that this annual reprt was written a yung girl frm Malawi, just ver 1 year ld, was brught t ur attentin. In general we will need a prvisin, per hspitalized child, f apprximately EUR ,- We are always in negtiatins with hspitals t lwer their general / maximum csts f EUR but we have nt yet received any indicatin that this request will be hnured. Sme general questins and answers: If the child will be send frm the hme cuntry t the Netherlands, will he/she travel alne r with a parent r smene else? Is the cst f this included r is it apart? The child will have t cme alne; WITHOUT its parents r family t the Netherlands. If all ges as planned, he/she will be accmpanied by smene frm the rganizatin called Luchtvaart Znder Grenzen (LZG; Flights withut Brders) r by a stewardess frm the airline cmpany. In bth cases it will be smene with a medical backgrund / training. The child will nt be left alne at all. At Schiphl airprt he/she will be handed ver t the care f the family Besaard (Gerard and Margreeth). Family cannt cme alng, mainly due t the fllwing facts: it will raise the travel and csts f husing t much. We cannt affrd these csts as an rganizatin it adds anther persn t wrry abut and we will have cncerns abut his/her well being as well there might be language barriers and emtinal issues and maybe health issues t deal with besides these issues there are the lgistical and insurance issues as well. Where des the persn stay, hw d we get him/her t the hspital and back t the place where they are staying, what t eat and what if this persn becmes (very) ill. What if anther family at hme (in yur hme cuntry) becmes very ill, des the persn g back, d they stay etc. etc. etc. As a small rganizatin we have special permissins and arrangements with lcal and/r natinal agencies / authrities. They give us certain privileges in rder t help a child, but nly the child. We d nt want t cmprmise the relatinship we have with these rganizatins and therefre will nt make any exceptins. Hw lng is the child suppsed t stay in the hspital? This is dependent f several factrs. At arrival the child will stay fr a perid at the family Besaard in Katwijk t recver frm the flight. Then he/she will g t the hspital the mment they will be able t perate her. The time in the hspital is dependent upn the final diagnse, and n cmplicatins: In case f catheterizatin it culd be 3 days In case f a heart peratin it can be between days. Depending n the type f treatment and recvery h e / s h e will stay fr a few weeks with the family Besaard, and after the hspital will have cmpleted all checks and they think it is save fr t h e c h i l d t g back hme, it will fly bac k with smene a c c mpa n yi n g i t again. 14 De hfdlijnen van het beleidsplan: De functie van de bestuurders: Hiermee bedelen wij de functies van de bestuurders zals die staan in de statuten, bijvrbeeld vrzitter, penningmeester en secretaris. Vrzitster, secretaris en penningmeester. Geen van de bestuursleden is zelfstandig bevegd m besluiten te nemen namensde stichting. De namen van de bestuurders: Mw. M. Besaard-Pmmer; Vrzitster Mw. D. van Maanen; Secretaris Dhr. O. Krn; Penningmeester Het belningsbeleid: Er zijn geen medewerkers in lndienst bij de stichting.
