Duizenden bezoekers, waren er de voorbije weken en maanden bij voor de Eleven Sports 24 Hours, de Blancpain GT Series, de Historic Grand Prix met een Concours d Elegance of de FIA ETRC Belgian Truck Grand Prix. Ook nu met het American Festival Circuit Zolder Nascar Finals liggen we zeker baanvast op koers. Het is een van de topevenementen waar raceliefhebbers al lang naar uitkijken. Motorsport blijft het centrale gegeven maar daarrond organiseren we tal van events die recreanten en toeristen van 7 tot 77 aantrekken uit alle hoeken van het land. We dragen zo ons steentje bij aan de internationale aantrekkelijkheid van de provincie Limburg. Zoals we voor andere topevenementen eerder op de kalender hebben gedaan, wordt het programma van ons al goed gevulde American Festival Circuit Zolder Nascar Finals nog wat verrijkt. Primeur in Zolder tijdens ons American Festival is de American Cars & Bikes On Wheels Show met oldtimers. Het hele terrein zal in een Amerikaanse sfeer ondergedompeld zijn met allerhande stands, food & drinks, muziek en zoveel meer. Circuit Zolder serveert hiermee weer een totaalbeleving voor het hele gezin en gaat duidelijk voor meer dan alleen racen. Het is gewoon een Funfastic Place voor iedereen. Deze finale van de NASCAR Whelen Euro Series wordt zonder twijfel een waardige afsluiter van het indrukwekkende rijtje topevenementen. Dat is mogelijk dankzij de inzet van onze bestaande en nieuwe partners, de raceteams, de medewerkers van Circuit Zolder en tal van vrijwilligers. Bij deze dank ik hen zonder uitzondering van harte. In the past weeks and months, we have welcomed thousands of visitors to such events as the Eleven Sports 24 Hours of Zolder, the Blancpain GT Series and the Historic Grand Prix with its Concours d Elegance or the FIA ETRC Belgian Truck Grand Prix. At the moment we are all set to stay on course for the American Festival Circuit Zolder Nascar Finals. It is one of the biggest events of the season and one that racing fans have been looking forward to for weeks. While motorsports continue to be our main focus, we organise several other events that attract amateurs and tourists, of all ages, from all over the country. It is our way of contributing to the international appeal of the Province of Limburg. What s more, as we have done for other major events this past year, we have added some fun entertainment to the programme of our amazing American Festival Circuit Zolder Nascar Finals. This year, we will be organising our very first American Cars & Bikes On Wheels Show with classic cars. The whole track will have an American look and feel, with various stands, food and drink, music and much more. Once again Circuit Zolder has succeeded in creating a thrilling experience that you can share with the whole family. Because we believe there is so much more to racing, making Circuit Zolder a funfastic place for everyone. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series final is also the perfect way to close the season, and its impressive line-up of top events. We were able to achieve all this thanks to the efforts of our existing and new partners, the racing teams, the employees of Circuit Zolder and the many volunteers. Het is een discipline in de autosport met haar eigen karakteristieken en ze verdient zeker een plaatsje naast die andere erg populaire autosport, de Blancpain GT Series. In de NASCAR draait het vaak niet om de snelste auto, maar wel om de beste strategie. Dat maakt het racen meer tot een strijd tussen rijders dan tussen specificaties van auto s. En als kers op de taart is er een dragshow. Jullie krijgen een unieke dragster aan het werk te zien: de snelste van Europa! Jullie zullen zonder twijfel massaal deze Amerikaanse publiekslievelingen verwelkomen tijdens het American Festival NASCAR FINALS in Circuit Zolder. Aan het familie-gebeuren schenken we erg veel aandacht. Ook nu is dat niet anders. Toegankelijkheid is daarin opportuun maar ook de extra randanimatie. Het racen wordt vaak maar een deel van de NASCAR-ervaring, aangezien er naast het circuit nog veel meer animatie verzekerd wordt. Er is onder meer een kids village, een open startgrid die iedereen mag bezoeken, karting, handtekeningensessie met de piloten. De races van Belgian Endurance Championship BELCAR en de Belgian Historic Cup maken dit topweekend compleet. This form of automobile racing has its own classes and rules but is just as exciting as that other popular motorsport, the Blancpain GT Series. Often it s not the speed of the car that matters in NASCAR races. Instead the driver with the best strategy has the upper hand. Horsepower and aerodynamics help as the drivers battle it out to be the best. The cherry on the cake is the drag show of course. You will get to see a unique dragster at work, in fact it is Europe s fastest race car! And NASCAR is no different. While accessibility is an important aspect, the fringe entertainment is just as crucial. 12 23 WIE WORDT DE OPVOLGER IN DE BELCAR ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP? Een maand geleden op 17, 19 en 20 augustus vond de Eleven Sports 24 Hours of Zolder plaats. Dat ging niet onopgemerkt voorbij. We herinneren ons nog altijd de optrekkende motoren en die aparte geur van asfalt, alsof het gisteren was. Na 24 zenuwslopende uren rijdt Hans Thiers de knalrode Norma M20FC over de finish van de Eleven Sports 24 Hours of Zolder en het team van Scuderia Monza by DVB RACING kan juichen. De eerste zege in de Limburgse klassieker voor een open prototype is binnen, na een wedstrijd waarin het team amper één oponthoud kende. Gilles Magnus, Jeffrey Van Hooydonk en de broers Hans en Frank Thiers hebben samen met de Brabander Christoff Corten voor een sensationele zege gezorgd. Naast hen op het podium staan nog twee teams van Norma. De eerste prototype-zege in de Eleven Sports 24 Hours of Zolder is dus een feit, en hoe. 13 25 WHO WILL BE THE SUCCESSOR IN THE BELCAR ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP? The Eleven Sports 24 Hours of Zolder were held just a month ago, on 17, 19 and 20 August. This event attracted a great deal of attention. We still remember the sound of the engines as they revved up and that very special smell of asphalt as if it was yesterday. After a nail-biting 24 hours, Hans Thiers rode his bright red Norma M20FC across the finish line of the Eleven Sports 24 Hours of Zolder, while the team of Scuderia Monza by DVB RACING cheered him on. They nabbed their first victory in the Limburg classic for an open prototype after a race in which the team suffered almost no delays. Gilles Magnus, Jeffrey Van Hooydonk and brothers Hans and Frank Thiers contributed to a sensational win, along with Christoff Corten. They shared the podium with two other Norma teams. This marked the first prototype victory in the Eleven Sports 24 Hours of Zolder, and what a victory it was. Norma dominated the competition, giving the Benelux importer an unforgettable race as all three teams on the podium were Norma teams. NOTHING IS SET IN STONE. With one more race to go and 35 points to earn, several teams can become the new champion, mathematically speaking. But with a difference of just 10 points between the top 3 teams, the future champion will either be McDonald s, MExT or Scuderia Monza, meaning two Normas will compete against one Porsche. In that sense, this makes for an unequal contest for the overall victory as the Normas are faster. But MExt and its Porsche stands to win the points classification. Overall victory means 10 points, while a victory in your class earns you 25 points. In that case, Deldiche has a key role to play. In the early Noughties, it launched the Belcar Historic Sprint with Circuit-Zolder, which was renamed the Belgian Historic Cup a few years later. FIA rules and regulations apply, meaning all the materials used must be/are from the same period. As of next year, Circuit-Zolder and BRAVO will be jointly organising this championship again, under the Belcar label, adding a new class, the Nineties, for cars from 1991 until 2000 and max cc. 18 35 HISTORISCHE GT S & TOURING CARS Het STATE of ART - NK GT & TC rijdt tijdens de Nascar Finals de laatste wedstrijden voor het Nederlands kampioenschap voor toerwagens en GT s uit de periode Het kampioenschap staat onder auspiciën van de Historische Auto Ren Club. Het kampioenschap telt veel auto s die nog niet zo heel lang geleden onderdeel uitmaakten van het dagelijkse straatbeeld. Bezoekers herkennen misschien zelfs auto s die ze zelf hebben gehad. Denk aan de Mini, Simca 1000 en BMW Denk ook aan de Ford Escort RS1600, de auto van regerend kampioen Patrick Peeters. Dit jaar kwamen ook al een BMW 3,0 CSL en een Datsun 240Z in actie. De Porsche Carrera RS is de meest voorkomende GT in het sympathieke veld. HISTORIC GT S & TOURING CARS During the Nascar Finals, the STATE of ART - NK GT & TC will hold the last races for the Dutch historic championship for GTs and Touring cars built between 1966 and The promotor of the championship is the Historische Auto Ren Club (Dutch Historic GT & TC Racing Drivers Club). Many of the cars in the championship were still driving on Belgian roads until recently. In fact, visitors may even recognise cars they once owned, including a Mini, a Simca 1000 or a BMW Or how about the Ford Escort RS1600 driven by Patrick Peeters, the reigning champion. This year, we have already spotted a BMW 3,0 CSL and a Datsun 240Z in races. The Porsche Carrera RS is the most common GT on this fun grid.
