1 Mogelijkheden Keuzeruimte TI Versie: Deze hand-out is bedoeld om jou inzicht te geven in de keuzemogelijkheden die op dit moment bekend zijn. De keuzeruimte binnen de opleiding Technische Informatica bestaat voor de TOM studenten uit twee onderdelen: de opleiding specifieke keuzeruimte en de minorruimte. Opleiding specifieke ruimte (15 EC): De opleiding specifieke ruimte heeft de omvang van één module en is in principe in K4 van jaar 2 ingeroosterd. De opleiding heeft ervoor gekozen de opleiding specifieke keuzemodules te spreiden over meerdere kwartielen. De modules waaruit jij er één moet kiezen ter invulling van je opleiding specifieke keuzeruimte zijn: Programmeerparadigma s (K4): zie Bijlage I; Smart Spaces (K1): modulebeschrijving is helaas nog niet voor handen; Cyber Physical Systems (K2): zie Bijlage II; Web Science (K2): zie Bijlage III. Minorruimte (30 EC): Binnen de minorruimte zijn er diverse keuzemogelijkheden. Ten eerste mag jij maximaal één verdiepende module (15 EC) kiezen. Kies je voor een verdiepende module, betekent dit dat je naast deze module nog een tweede module uit het overige aanbod moet kiezen. Kies je geen verdiepende module, dan dien je 2 modules uit het overige aanbod te kiezen. Een verdiepende module kan zijn; Een tweede opleiding specifieke module; De overige modules die jij als TI-er binnen andere UT bachelor opleidingen kan volgen, vallen in twee categorieën: Ten eerste zijn er de zogenaamde aanschuifmodules. Dit zijn modules die onderdeel zijn van een andere opleiding en waar jij bij mag aanschuiven. In Bijlage IV tref je een voorlopige lijst van opties aan. De lijst is ontleend aan de UT aanschuifmatrix. Hier zijn nog aanschuifmodules in K4 aan toegevoegd. Daarnaast introduceert de UT in september 2015 de zogenaamde High Tech Human Touch (HTHT) modules. Voor info over deze modules, kijk op: De UT biedt de mogelijkheid om internationaal te gaan. Hiervoor zijn twee mogelijkheden waarvoor altijd voor aanvang goedkeuring moet worden gevraagd van de examencommissie TI: Het volgen van 15 of 30 EC aan onderwijs aan een buitenlandse universiteit. Voor dit onderwijs gelden dezelfde regels als voor het volgen van onderwijs binnen de UT. o Max 15 EC mag verdiepend zijn. De overige 15 EC moet verbredend zijn: d.w.z. sterk afwijken van het vakgebied TI. Er mag geen overlap bestaan met modules uit je eigen opleiding. Zie Bijlage V voor een stappenplan. Ten slotte zijn er nog een drietal bijzondere modules/modulepakketten, voor meer info: Leren Lesgeven (2x 15 EC): mocht je erover nadenken na je bachelor door te stromen naar de lerarenopleiding; Crossing Borders (2x 15 EC): voor die studenten die willen deelnemen aan een studiereis of een individuele internationale opdracht willen doen; Bestuursmodule (15 EC): voor die studenten die in een bestuur zitten en hun bestuurlijke competenties verder willen ontwikkelen

2 Invulling keuzeruimte niet- TOM studenten: Niet-TOM studenten mogen in principe gebruikmaken van alle voor TI-studenten toegestane keuzemodules voor invulling van nog open staande keuzeruimte (inclusief minor).

3 Bijlage I: Programming Paradigms (CONCEPT) Wanneer: Omgvang: Voertaal: K4 15 EC Engels 1. Aims and setup The overall aim of this module is to acquaint the students with a broader perspective on the ways in which one can program a computer system. Up until this point, the students have mainly learned imperative, object-oriented programming. This module will extend their awareness and ability in the following directions: Non-imperative programming: in particular, the functional paradigm (extensively) and the logic paradigm (brie Programming for concurrent systems: concepts, data structures and algorithms for multi-core and GPU-based parallelism Programming language technology: parsing, compilation and code generation These three strands are initially taught separately and come together in the module project, where the students develop a compiler for their own language with support for parallelism, generating code that runs on an extensible hardware emulator written in a functional language. Below, we will use the following abbreviations: FP Functional Programming; LP Logic Programming; CP Concurrent Programming; CC Compiler Construction. 2. Learning objectives After successful completion of this module, the student is able to: Describe the major programming paradigms (FP, LP and CP) and their essential characteristics and differences Write basic programs in all major programming paradigms Solve non-trivial programming problems in FP and CP Explain the concepts and importance of typing, in terms of FP and CC Explain and use the typical types and data structures in FP and CP Explain and take advantage of the evaluation and execution mechanisms of FP (lazy evaluation) and CP (hardware-related aspects, concurrency models) Explain and use the following concepts of FP: recursion, list comprehension, higher order functions, parameter accumulation, function composition, lazy evaluation. Explain and use the following concepts of CP: interleaving, fairness, deadlock, memory models, synchronisation, locking. Explain and use the following concepts of CC: syntactic and semantic analysis, scanning, parsing, run-time organisation, code generation, optimisation. Write a compiler for a non-trivial imperative language with concurrency features generating a given (dedicated) instruction set.

4 Bijlage II: Cyber Physical Systems (CONCEPT) Wanneer: Omgvang: Voertaal: K2 15 EC Engels Embedded systems together with their physical environment are called cyber-physical systems. Examples include systems such as the power grid and transportation. Such systems must be highly dependable, efficient and meet real-time constraints and require customised user interfaces. This module will provide an introduction into embedded systems design and presents different specification models and languages for embedded and cyber-physical systems. Furthermore, specialised hardware devices and the essentials of real-time operating systems are presented. Finally, different techniques for mapping applications to execution platforms and for optimization of embedded systems are discussed.

5 Bijlage III: Web Science (CONCEPT) Wanneer: Omgvang: Voertaal: K2 15 EC Engels 1. Graphs and Social Network We study basic graph theory concepts such as components, triadic closure, strong and weak ties, homophily (similarity between 'friends') and positive and negative relationships. These concepts are put to work on modeling network data such as collaborations, information linkage, citation, interactions, etc. Students will be able to understand and model network data as graphs, and develop algorithms for analyzing basic graph properties of large volumes of network data (big data). 2. Information Networks Our goal is to understand the structure of information networks on the Internet that emerges from citation, liking, commenting, co- authoring, connection with 'friends', hypertext linking, etc. We study properties such as reputation, authority and relevance of web pages and persons. Students will learn to model, understand, and analyze such informational properties in terms of graph theory concepts. 3. Game Theory and Network Traffic We study basic game theoretic models and concepts, such as modeling strategic behavior in normal or extensive form games, best responses, pure and mixed strategies, Nash and dominant strategy equilibria. These concepts are put to work in a network context, modeling network traffic in terms of normal form games. We specifically analyze best response dynamics, user equilibria in networks, and the effects of lack of central coordination on the social cost, also known as the price of anarchy. Students will be able to understand, model, and formally analyze the effects of strategic behavior in general, and in the context of network traffic in particular. 4. Auctions and Matching Markets Our goal is to understand how business models in the web, such as Google s ad auctions, actually work. In order to understand that, we study the basics of auction theory, including in particular first and second price auctions, and the role of game theory in order to understand strategic behavior in such contexts. As a second step, we study matching markets, the computation of market clearing prices, generalized second price auctions, and the celebrated VCG mechanism for sponsored search markets. Students will thereby learn to model and understand the rationale behind various types of auctions and mechanisms, as a basis for understanding and designing business models for the web. 5. Network Dynamics Population Models and Structural Models We study how people connected in a network influence each other s behaviour and decisions. First we consider population models which help us to understand informational (or herding) effects and direct- benefit (or network) effects in social processes, and apply this knowledge to analyze the notion of popularity. Then we consider structural models to understand diffusion of information through groups of people, as opposed to a homogeneous population, and explain the small world phenomenon. Students will learn how to model and analyze the processes by which new ideas and innovations are adopted by a population in which groups of people are connected by very short paths.

Institutions and Aggregate Behavior Our goal is to understand institutions such as markets and voting systems where rules and characteristics and expectations of actors affect their behavior and consequently determine aggregate behavior of the set of actors as a whole. In particular, we study prediction markets such as horse races or stock trading, markets with asymmetric information or reputation systems, as well as voting systems such as elections or televised talent shows. Students will learn to model and understand the rationale and design behind various types of institutions in terms of the aggregate behavior they produce.

9 Bijlage V: Stappenplan Exchange Stap 1: Lees de exchange manual. Hierin staat beschreven wat er allemaal geregeld moet worden voordat je daadwerkelijk op het vliegtuig stapt. Stap 2: Oriënteer je op mogelijke exchange universiteiten. Er zijn meerdere plekken waar je kan kijken: Op de website van de UT staat een Excel bestand (European Partner universities.xlsx) met daarin alle Erasmus agreements waarover de UT beschikt. In de Excel staat aangegeven op welk studiegebied er met welke universiteiten contracten zijn afgesloten: o Wil je een uitwisseling binnen het gebied van BIT/TI, zoek dan in de kolommen Business & IT en Computer Science naar de geschikte partnerinstellingen; o Wil je tijdens je uitwisseling juist vakken in een ander studiegebied volgen, zoek dan in de kolom van het studiegebied waar jouw belangstelling naar uit gaat voor geschikte partnerinstellingen; o Bekijk de website van de partnerinstellingen en hun studieaanbod. Naast de partnerinstellingen, neemt de opleiding BIT deel in het IS Link network. Ook de TI studenten kunnen gebruik maken van dit netwerk. Het is een netwerk van Informatiekunde opleidingen binnen Europa en zelfs daarbuiten: o Bekijk op bovenstaande webpagina de deelnemende universiteiten en hun onderwijsaanbod. De UT beschikt ook nog over contracten met een aantal international partnerinstellingen (zie link Non-EU Partner universities Het aantal beschikbare plekken bij deze partnerinstellingen is zeer beperkt: slechts 2 tot 4 plekken UT breed per jaar beschikbaar! De faculteit mag per international partner slechts één student nomineren. Onder alle nominaties worden de 2 tot 4 plekken vergeven. De kans is dus groot dat jij niet de gelukkige bent. Wil je aan een van deze universiteiten op exchange, dien je een plan B achter de hand te hebben. Stap 3: Maak een afspraak met je studieadviseur mevr. Vonk en bespreek je voornemen op exchange te gaan. Bespreek met haar je studieplanning en de universiteit waar je voorkeur naar uitgaat. Stap 4: Maak een afspraak met de coördinator internationalisering van de faculteit EWI, dhr. Schut. Hij zal met jouw alle formaliteiten doorlopen.

10 Bijlage VI: IT Project Management (CONCEPT) Successful IT projects innovate business functions, transform enterprises and enable organizational repositioning (Brown et al. 1999; Institute 2008). Unfortunately about half of IT projects fail and sometimes large sums of money are lost. Therefore, there is substantial need to study this topic. IBA and BIT students have been trained in key business information technologies and skills in the first year. They also experienced several project management skills. This module continues in this line by learning students how IT projects are the vehicles for realizing organizational benefits from IT and by introducing professional international standard project management methods and techniques. The learning objectives of this module focus on generic project management steps and the specifics of these in business innovation contexts. The generic project steps that will be taught are the following: 1. Project scoping and problem definition. The analysis of stakeholders and the identification of a gap between ideal situations and current reality. 2. Requirements definition. Describing the project objectives such that they can be well measured and be (legally) unambiguous at the stage of project completion. 3. Solution design. Converting requirements into a prototype and validating the business case. 4. Project portfolio management and decision methods. The definition of a project portfolio and the capability of making well-argued priority decisions among multiple project proposals. 5. Project planning. Principles and parameters of project plans and the use of planning (software) tools for describing project resources and budgets. Also internal and external communication planning. 6. Project execution. Converting plans into action, people sourcing, skills and roles, project monitoring, project dash boards, decisions regarding unpredictable events, balancing and trading off interests, continuation and project discontinuation decisions. 7. Make-or-buy and outsourcing. Supplier selection, contracting and contract management. We teach these steps by elements of market leading project management methods like Prince 2 and PMBOK. We discuss each step in the contexts of business innovation contexts, in which we distinguish functional improvements, organizational transformation, and repositioning projects: a. Many IT innovating projects aim at organizational functional improvements by the introduction of new HRM, Finance, Accounting, CRM, or transaction processing systems. b. IT business transformation projects aim at a further integration of organizational functions, enabled for example by enterprise systems and new IT infrastructures & services. c. IT repositioning projects aim at changing an organization s relations with customers and suppliers on a market. Virtual supply chains and market making systems can enable this. This module focuses on IT as business applications and excludes technical automation projects.

11 Bijlage VII: Serious Gaming (CONCEPT) Wanneer: Omgvang: Voertaal: K1 15 EC Engels Serious gaming is one of the new developments in the business environment that gained increasing awareness recently. ICT accelerated this development. In contrast to playing serious games, game design entails the application of knowledge from the modelled domain to a mode and manner in which this is represented to change the players knowledge, attitude, or behaviour with regard to the domain. The Serious Game Design Module provides students with a theory driven play centric approach to serious game design. During the module groups of students will develop, play and validate a serious game. The primary aim of the project is to apply and acquire game design knowledge and domain knowledge by learning by doing. To canalize the practical project management aspects of designing serious games in multidisciplinary teams an agileproject management methodology will be applied and used with sprints of two weeks with biweekly peer student sprint reviews.
