2 2 Editorial This month is about gardens. I have just been to the gardens at het Loo near Apeldoorn and to the famous Keukenhof near Lisse. I find gardens to be very inspirational and a great way to relax. In my own garden I have a lot of food growing; apples, figs, raspberries, strawberries, grapes, herbs, and at the moment a pumpkin. As I watch these plants grow I see how each one develops; some have flowers, some just appear, and others are part of the basic structure of the plant. Herbs are often the leaf of the plant or the seed. Fruit tends to take an entire season to grow. Gardens are a combination of permanent structures and temporary planting. How this is combined determines how a garden feels. Every garden is different and each gardener is different. Each year brings a new chance to recreate the garden. The structure stays but the seasonal plants change. In the Keukenhof, the flowers beds change every year, but in Het Loo the plants they use are the same plants as would have been used more than 100 years ago. I hope that these gardens inspired the readers as much as they have inspired me.

4 A day in my life in Mike, Iris, Peter end Me started our own product design, development and marketing company 3 years ago. It s great that we have been able to build up our own loyal client base; this morning we have a meeting with one of our biggest clients. We have been developing a new concept and today is presentation day. I love presentation day, since this gives me the best excuse to travel. We arrive yesterday morning we arrived in Auckland, New Zeeland, checked in to our hotel and unpacked. This morning s meeting starts at 10AM giving us ample time to set things up. For this meeting, We prepared a presentation including a digital presentation, holograms and Rapid prototyping models. Our meetings always start with a breakfast, allowing us to become more personally acquainted with our clients and vice versa. After breakfast the real work starts; we present our concept. I always get nervous before a presentation, but luckily Mike head of product development will be presenting. Once the presentation is complete we give our clients some time to discuss the products amongst themselves, while we grab a bite to eat. This is why we came all the way to Auckland with all four of us. The questions only take 1 hour, and go well, leaving the client confident that we are doing our work well. Seeing as its only 2 in the afternoon, we take advantage of the free time and investigate the competition. We go through the city shop by shop looking for similar products, finding little competition, and a market ready for our product. This we didn t expect, we expected to have to fight for our place on the shop self. We called back the client to make a diner meeting, seeing as we are flying back tomorrow we want to get the ball rolling on the new developments. We now think that we can get this product to market in 6 months. This trip was a success. As I repack my bag for the flight home I know that there will be a lot to do in the months ahead and can t wait till we get back to share the news. 4

8 Het Loo Palace The gardens of Het Loo were fully restored starting in 1970, in time to celebrate its tricentennial in Its new brickwork, trelliswork and ornaments are as raw as they must have been in 1684 and will mellow with time. In 1960 Queen Wilhelmina declared that when she died the palace would go to the State. It did in 1962, when Wilhelmina died at Het Loo Palace. After a thorough restoration it now houses a national museum and library devoted to the House of Orange-Nassau in Dutch history. Het Loo also now houses the Museum van de Kanselarij der Nederlandse Orden (Museum of the Chancery of the Netherlands Orders of Knighthood), and books and other material concerning decorations and medals form a separate section in the library. 8

9 Keukenhof Keukenhof also known as the Garden of Europe, is situated near Lisse, Netherlands, and is the world s largest flower garden. According to the official website for the Keukenhof Park, approximately 7,000,000 (seven million) flower bulbs are planted annually in the park. The garden was established in 1949 by the then-mayor of Lisse. The idea was to present a flower exhibit where growers from all over the Netherlands and Europe could show off their hybrids and help the Netherlands export industry (it is the world s largest exporter of flowers). Keukenhof has been the world s largest flower garden for over fifty years. 9

13 Hoe ervaren mensen mij als merk? Missie: Problemen hebben vak eenvoudige oplossingen, het vinden van de oplossingen is waar ik voor strijd. keep is simple Visie: In en wereld waar het leven steeds complexer wordt, is het zoeken naar eenvoudige mogelijkheden de toekomst. Code: Ik ben heel oplettend, observant, en heb een eye for details. Ik maak vaak een connectie tussen verschillende dingen die andere mensen niet zien of niet opmerken. Tijdens een brainstorming sessie kom ik op ideeën door koppeling te maken tussen de verschillende aspecten van en project. Mode: Met het uitvinden en brainstormen in en project ben ik op mijn best. Positioneringstatement: Ik, Michelle Bennett, als vormgever in de bedrijfskundige ICT met en sterke concept vermogen, sta als observant en innovatieve persoon ten opzichte van andere vormgevers, voor en sterke en uitvoerbaar concept. 13
