The Film Kitchen werkt nauw samen met zowel ervaren filmmakers als jong, opvallend talent. Interessante inhoud is het oogmerk en die wordt gecombineerd met cinematografische kwaliteit. The Film Kitchen maakt zowel prikkelende auteursfilms, met verhalen die er toe doen, als speelfilms voor een breder publiek en richt zich op de nationale én de internationale markt. The Film Kitchen werd begin 2016 opgericht door producenten Ineke Kanters en Jan van der Zanden. Eerder was Van der Zanden eigenaar van Waterland Film. De projecten van Waterland Film zijn vanaf 1 januari 2016 overgenomen door The Film Kitchen. Kanters werkte voorheen o.a. als executive producer bij Kasander Film en de laatste jaren bij Waterland Film samen met Van der Zanden als producent. The Film Kitchen produceerde o.a. de speelfilm Kauwboy (2012) van Boudewijn Koole. Kauwboy won de Best First Feature Award en Best Youth Film Award tijdens de Berlinale 2012. De film was de Nederlandse inzending voor de Oscars voor Best Foreign Language Film en won de EFA European Discovery Award en de EFA Young Audience Award. De speelfilm Tussenland (2002) van Eugenie Jansen won de Tiger Award op het Internationaal Film Festival Rotterdam in 2002. De internationale speelfilm Verdwijnen van Boudewijn Koole is op 2 maart 2017 in Nederland in release gegaan. Deze film is een coproductie met Noorwegen. De met Noorwegen en Denemarken ontwikkelde coproductie Handle with Care van de Noorse regisseur Arild Andresen werd opgenomen in Colombia en is begin 2017 in Noorwegen in de bioscopen uitgebracht. De film zal in 2018 of 2019 uitgezonden worden door de VPRO. In het najaar van 2014 beleefde de speelfilm Het leven volgens Nino (2014) van Simone van Dusseldorp en schrijfster Urzsula Antoniak zijn première op het het Cinekid Film Festival en werd in oktober 2014 uitgebracht in de Nederlandse bioscopen. De korte film Leeg (2014) van Flynn von Kleist had in september 2014 zijn première op het Nederlands Film Festival. De speelfilm Onder het hart (2015) van Nicole van Kilsdonk ging in januari 2015 in première in de Nederlandse bioscopen. Coproducties Rundskop (2011) van Michaël R. Roskam (genomineerd voor de Academy Award voor Beste Buitenlandse Film in 2012) was de eerste internationale coproductie met Savage Film (BE). Daarna volgden o.a.: Abrir puertas y ventanas (2011) van Milagros Mumenthaler, een minoritaire coproductie met Argentinië, Hubert Bals Fonds Rotterdam, Fortuna Films (NL), Ruda Cine (Argentinië) en Bordu Films (Zwitserland). De film was winnaar van een Gouden Luipaard voor Beste Film en Beste Actrice Locarno 2011 La tercera orilla (2013) van Celina Murga, minoritaire coproductie met Tresmilmundos Cine (Argentinië), Peter Rommel (DE) en executive producer Martin Scorsese. In competitie van de Berlinale 2014.
