Alle toonaangevende kunststofrecyclers in Nederland zijn lid van NRK Recycling en/of Plastics Recyclers Europe, de Europese brancheorganisatie voor kunststofrecyclers. De kunststofrecyclers zamelen jaarlijks gezamenlijk 800.000 tot 1.000.000 ton kunststofafval in. Een deel van de ingezamelde kunststoffen zetten ze zelf om in nieuwe grondstof. Een ander deel wordt verhandeld voor verdere bewerking, zowel binnen als buiten Europa. De Nederlandse recyclers zijn al jaren bezig om afzetgebieden binnen Europa te ontwikkelen.
