3 Voorwoord Voor u ligt het jaarverslag van Diamantweg-boeddhisme Rotterdam van de Karma Kagyu Linie. In dit verslag geven wij u informatie over wat Diamantweg-boeddhisme is, hoe het in Nederland is gestructureerd en waar wij donaties aan besteden. Daarnaast vindt u in dit overzicht de door de wet voorgeschreven informatie ten aanzien van ANBI-stichting: zoals de doelstellingen, het beleid ten aanzien van bestuursvergoedingen, bestuursinformatie en correspondentie- en bezoekadressen. Het Diamantweg-boeddhisme Nederland van de Karma Kagyu Linie is vertegenwoordigd met tien meditatie-groepen in Nederland. Onze dank gaat uit naar Z.H. de 17 e Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje die met zijn wijsheid, kundigheid en liefde het bestaansrijk van alle wezens vult met Dharma-onderricht van de Boeddha s. Naar Lama Ole Nydahl, die met zijn onnavolgbare inzet een voorbeeld is voor ons allen. Wij wensen u al het goede en veel plezier en inspiratie bij het lezen van dit verslag. Preface In front of you is the Annual Report of Diamond Way Buddhism Rotterdam of the Karma Kagyu lineage. In this report, we give you information about what Diamond Way Buddhism is, how it is structured in The Netherlands and how we spend donations. In this report we also inform you about the statutory information regarding charity foundations: the objectives, policies regarding fees, administrative information and correspondence and visiting addresses. Ten meditation groups in ten cities in The Netherlands represent Diamond Way Buddhism. Our thanks go to H.H. 17 th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje: through your wisdom, ability and love you flood the realm of sentient beings with the teachings of the Buddha Dharma. 5 Wat is Diamantweg-boeddhisme? Het Diamantweg-boeddhisme (Skt.: Vajrayana) wordt vaak beschreven als het kroonjuweel van Boeddha's onderricht. Doel is het bereiken van de toestand van het Grote Zegel (Skt.: Mahamudra), die elke vorm van dualisme overstijgt. Alle gebeurtenissen zijn echt en waar omdat ze de onbegrensde mogelijkheden van de geest laten zien, maar tegelijk zijn ze ook een illusie omdat ze vergankelijk zijn. Door directe en totale identificatie met verlichting, de volledige ontplooiing van de geest, worden snelle resultaten mogelijk gemaakt. Diamond Way Buddhism [ 2 ] H.H. 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje [ 3] Lama Ole Nydahl Het Diamantweg-boeddhisme vindt zijn oorsprong in de Karma Kagyu-traditie, de meest praktijkgerichte school van het Tibetaans boeddhisme. De Karma Kagyu Linie is één van de drie oude Tibetaanse scholen en staat onder spirituele leiding van de Gyalwa Karmapa, de eerste bewust wedergeboren lama van Tibet. De huidige Karmapa is de zeventiende incarnatie, Z.H. Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje. De zestiende Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, heeft begin jaren zeventig zijn twee eerste westerse leerlingen, Hannah en Ole Nydahl, gevraagd het Diamantwegboeddhisme naar het Westen over te brengen. Sindsdien hebben zij wereldwijd meer dan 650 centra opgericht en nog steeds ontstaan overal nieuwe groepen. Diamond Way Buddhism is a lay organization of the Karma Kagyu lineage, which belongs to the one of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The meditation methods used by Diamond Way Buddhism while all traditional are presented in a modern, Western setting accessible to all. Through our meditation centers and courses worldwide, many people are able to use and benefit from Buddha s timeless methods. The highest of the three levels of Buddha s teachings is called Vajrayana in Sanskrit, or Dorje Thegpa in Tibetan, which translates to The Diamond Way. Of the various schools that teach Vajrayana Buddhism, the Diamond Way organization was founded by Lama Ole Nydahl in order to preserve and make available the teachings of the Karma Kagyu, especially in the West. His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, Ranjung Rigpe Dorje, asked Lama Ole and his wife Hannah to carry out this task and to teach Buddhism and found centers in his name. 4 P age

6 Structuur in Nederland De groepen en centra werken op basis van vriendschap, idealisme en zelforganisatie. In de centra wordt gemediteerd en vindt uitwisseling van ervaring en informatie plaats. Zo krijgen de beoefenaars de mogelijkheid om te leren en zich te ontwikkelen. Al meer dan dertig jaar is deze vorm van boeddhisme in Nederland vertegenwoordigd. Inmiddels zijn er meditatiegroepen en -centra in Amsterdam, Amsterdam-West, Arnhem, Den Haag, Enschede, Friesland, Groningen, Reeuwijk, Rotterdam, Utrecht en Venlo. De meditatiegroepen en -centra zijn selfsupporting. Dit betekent dat elke groep zijn eigen budget verzorgt en zelf verantwoording draagt voor de opbrengsten en uitgaven. Een aantal groepen heeft vanwege bijvoorbeeld een huurovereenkomst een eigen stichting opgericht. Andere groepen maken deel uit van een gezamenlijk stichting. Met uitzondering van de Groningse stichting, hebben alle stichtingen een ANBI-status: een Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling. Dit betekent dat de giften aan die instelling aftrekbaar zijn voor de inkomstenbelasting. De indeling van de meditatiegroepen hieronder laat zien welke groep onder welke stichting valt. Diamantweg-boeddhisme Nederland van de Karma Kagyu Linie Structure in Holland The groups and centers operate on a basis of friendship, idealism and self-organization. In the centers, we meditate and exchange experience and knowledge. This gives practitioners the opportunity to learn and develop. For over 30 years, this form of Buddhism is represented in The Netherlands. Meanwhile there are meditation groups and centers in Amsterdam, Amsterdam-West, Arnhem, Zoetermeer, Enschede, Friesland, Groningen, Reeuwijk, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Venlo. The meditation groups and centers are self-supporting. This means that each group has its own budget and is responsible for revenues and expenditures. Most groups have or are part of a foundation. Most foundations have the ANBI-status : a public beneficial organization. This means that donations to the center are deductible for income tax purposes. The structure of the meditation groups on this page is based on where the financial statements of the group are made. Pagina 5

7 [ 4] the Europe Center Nationale en Internationale connecties Wereldwijd zijn er meer dan 650 meditatiegroepen en meditatiecentra van het Diamantweg-boeddhisme van de Karma Kagyu Linie, die zijn opgericht door Lama Ole Nydahl en onder geestelijk leiding staan van Z.H. de 17e Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje. Dit zijn gastvrije plekken waar mensen op een gemakkelijke manier toegang krijgen tot Boeddha s tijdloze wijsheid, kunnen leren hoe te mediteren en waar ervaring opgedaan en gedeeld wordt. Het Diamantweg-boeddhisme van de Karma Kagyu Linie biedt dagelijkse meditaties, cursussen, retraite-plekken, studiecursussen en lezingen door meer dan 100 internationale boeddhistische leraren aan. Op nationaal niveau werken de diverse groepen samen in werkgroepen. Deze verzorgen bijvoorbeeld de vertalingen van Lama Ole s boeken en de meditatieteksten, een nationale website en de financiële verslaggeving. Daarnaast worden gezamenlijke retraites georganiseerd, nationaal en internationaal boeddhistische leraren uitgenodigd en andere evenementen, zoals het schoonmaken en vullen van boeddhabeelden, georganiseerd. Voor het uitgeven van boeddhistische boeken is vanwege btwverplichtingen een stichting opgericht: Stichting Uitgeverij Milarepa. Internationaal werken wij samen in het Channel Project. Dit is een samenwerkingsvorm met Franse, Belgische en Engelse Diamantweg-boeddhisten. National and International co-operation Worldwide there are more than 650 lay Diamond Way Buddhist centers of the Karma Kagyu Lineage, founded by Lama Ole Nydahl, under the spiritual guidance of H.H. 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje. The Diamond Way Buddhist centers are friendly places where people get easy access to Buddha s timeless wisdom, learn how to meditate and develop and share experience. We offer daily meditations, meditation courses, retreat places, study courses and lectures by more than 100 international lay Buddhist teachers. On a national level, we work together in workgroups. For example, we provide the translations of Lama Ole's books and Diamond Way meditation texts, a national website, and financial reporting. In addition, joint retreats are organized, international Buddhist teachers are invited and other events, such as the cleaning and filling of Buddha statues, are organized. For the publishing of Dutch translations of Diamond Way Buddhist books, we started a publishing house: Foundation Milarepa. Internationally, we work together in the Channel Project, a co-operation between French, Belgian and English Diamond Way Buddhists. Ter ondersteuning van internationale projecten houden wij ook inzamelingsacties voor bijvoorbeeld het Europe Center, het bouwen van stupa s of het kopen van grond voor retraiteplekken. In support of international projects, we hold fundraising events, for example for the Europe Center, to finance the building of stupas or to buy land for retreat places. 6 P age

9 Doelstellingen Onze doelstellingen zijn vastgelegd in het stichtings-statuut. het bevorderen en onderhouden/behouden van de boeddhistische religie,- filosofie en cultuur in de traditie van de Karma Kagyu School, onder geestelijk gezag van Zijne Heiligheid Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, waarbij als spirituele leider wordt aanvaard: Lama Ole Nydahl; het bieden van de gelegenheid tot het beoefenen en bestuderen van de meditatietechnieken en boeddhistische filosofie en wetenschap welke worden onderwezen in het Tibetaans boeddhisme met nadruk op de Karma Kagyu Linie; het bevorderen van de integratie van boeddhistische tradities in de westerse samenleving, waarbij de nadruk ligt op de Tibetaanse Karma Kagyu tradities; het verrichten van alle verdere handelingen, die met het vorenstaande in de ruimste zin verband houden of daartoe bevorderlijk kunnen zijn. 10 Rotterdam 2014 Gedurende het jaar hebben wij diverse boeddhistische leraren op bezoek gehad, waaronder: Wojtek Tracewski, Maria Turek, Frank Kruse en Jan Matuska. Stuk voor stuk ervaren boeddhisten die lezingen gaven over Boeddha s leer. Het tijdelijk huurcontract voor het Boeddhistisch centrum is inmiddels enkele jaren over datum Daarnaast is het duidelijk dat wij een nieuw centrum nodig hebben, maar het zoeken naar de nieuwe plek is tijdrovend en niet eenvoudig. We willen een grotere meditatie ruimte (nu slechts 10m2), meer ruimte voor de bewoners en een betere scheiding tussen het woongedeelte en het algemene gedeelte voor de Sangha. Voor de verhuizing zullen we zeer waarschijnlijk geld nodig hebben, dus naast de aankoop van een prachtig Boeddha-beeld voor het altaar zijn we ook begonnen met geld inzamelen en sparen. Op dinsdag- en donderdagavond om was er steevast gezamenlijke 16e Karmapa meditatie. Maandagavond, woensdagavond en zondagmiddag stonden in het teken van Ngöndro. Gemiddeld eens in de twee weken gaf iemand van de groep een zogenaamd 10-minuten-praatje over een zelfgekozen onderwerp uit de een lijst met boeddhistische onderwerpen. Zo kwamen bijvoorbeeld boeddhistische toevlucht, 16e Karmapa meditatie en boeddhisme in het Westen aan bod. We zijn niet enkel voor meditatie en lezingen samengekomen. Eens in de paar weken werd er samen gegeten, voorafgaand aan de gezamenlijke meditatie op de 16e Karmapa op dinsdag Opbrengsten Revenue Huisvestingskosten Housing Costs Centrum Buddhist Centre Lezingen en Evenementen Lectures & Events Algemene kosten 304 Overheads Rente en Bankkosten 153 Bank & Interest Totale mutatie in Total mutations in reserves capital 2014 During the year we had some great lectures and weekendretreats with Diamondway teachers like: Wojtek Tracewski, Maria Turek, Frank Kruse and Jan Matuska. The temporary rent-contract for our Buddhist Center is over-due. However finding a new suitable location is time consuming and not easy. We clearly need a bigger Gompa (now only 10m2) more room for residents and a beter seperation between the living area and common area. We are also aware that we are going to need to invest money when we move, so next to buying a beautifull new Buddha statue: we started collecting and saving money. Every Tuesday and Thursday at there was a 16th Karmapa meditation. Monday and Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoons are dedicated to Ngöndro-practice. Once every two weeks, one of the steady visitors gave a so-called 10- minute talk on a Buddhist subject. For example: Buddhist refuge, 16th Karmapa Meditation and Buddhism in the West. We did not only meet for meditation and teachings. Once every few weeks we dined together before the joint meditation on the 16th Karmapa. Pagina 9

12 Projecten en inzamelacties De diverse boeddhistische groepen en centra in Nederland werken onder andere samen op het gebied van inzamelingsacties, het organiseren van cursussen en retraites, vertalingen, het uitgeven van boeken, het maken van websites en het gezamenlijk realiseren van de wens voor een retraiteplek. Als bijdrage aan het internationale project Europe Center is er een landelijke inzamelingsactie gestart. De opbrengsten komen volledig ten goede van het project. Meer over dit project kan men vinden op internet: Een ander project dat door de diverse groepen wordt gedragen is het uitgeven van boeken. [ 6] the Europe Center Pagina 11 Projects & Fundraising The various Buddhist Groups and centers in The Netherlands work together for fundraising, organizing courses and retreats, translations, book publishing, websites and the realization of the joint wish for a Dutch retreat place. As a contribution to the international project Europe Center a nationwide fundraising campaign started. The earnings are fully in favor of the project. More about this project can be found on the internet: Another project that the various groups warmly support is the publishing of Buddhist books.

13 Holland House De wens Al jaren bestaat er de wens een nationaal centrum te hebben waar we samen kunnen komen en retraites kunnen houden. Een plek zonder compromissen, een plek die eigendom wordt van de Nederlandse Diamantweg-stichting. Het Holland House Project gaat deze wensen verwerkelijken. De motivatie Er zijn drie redenen waarom een dergelijke plek positief is voor de Nederlandse sangha. Ten eerste, kunnen we er onze beoefening verdiepen; ten tweede, kunnen we er onze vriendschap verder ontwikkelen; ten derde, bouwen we het fundament voor de toekomst van Diamantweg-boeddhisme in Nederland. In dat opzicht is het Holland House Project een doel op zich, omdat we elk van de drie doelen al bereiken met de campagne zelf. Holland House [ 7] Lama Ole Nydahl told us to find two locations: one in the north and one within one hour travelling from Amsterdam and Rotterdam. A place without compromise, a place that will be the property of the Dutch Diamond Way Sangha. The Holland House Project will make this wish a reality. The Motivation There are three reasons why such a place is positive for the Dutch sangha. First, we can deepen our practice; secondly, we can further develop our friendship; thirdly, we build the foundation for the future of Diamond Way Buddhism in The Netherlands. In that respect, the Holland House Project is the goal in itself! We reach all the three goals merely with the campaign. 12 P age

14 Het project Het Holland House is een campagne voor het creëren van awareness, het bouwen aan commitment en het inzamelen van middelen en ideeën voor een ontmoetings- en retraiteplek. Eén van die middelen is geld. We hebben een groot bedrag nodig voor het kopen van een plek. Als we willen dat de plek een succes wordt, dan is naast geld, nationale samenwerking essentieel. Alleen door samenwerking kunnen we een nationaal centrum succesvol opbouwen en draaiende houden. Kortom, Holland House is een campagne voor het realiseren van een volwaardige ontmoetingsplek van, voor en door ons. Waar de plek komt en hoe het eruit zal zien staat nog geheel open. Pagina 13 The Project Holland House is a campaign to create awareness, to build commitment and to collect funds and ideas for a meet & retreat place. One of the resources we need to accomplish the goal is money. We need a large amount if we want to buy a place. For Holland House to be successful, a healthy national cooperation is essential. Only by working together, we can successfully build a national center and keep it going. In short, Holland House is a campaign for the realization of a full meet & retreat place of, by and for us. Where the Holland House will be and how it will look like is still completely open.

15 Channel Project Het Channel Project brengt vrienden van Diamond Way centra in Frankrijk, België, Nederland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk bij elkaar. De belangrijkste activiteiten zijn een jaarlijkse Channel Retreat en een Channel Tour' met Lama Ole Nydahl. Deze activiteiten zijn onderdeel van de Diamond Way Europese kalender en een prachtige gelegenheid voor vrienden om elkaar en Lama Ole Nydahl te ontmoeten en om samen te werken. De Channel Retreat Deze wordt elk jaar in een andere stad gehost en is een verrijkende en inspirerende ervaring. Er zijn ervaren boeddhistische beoefenaars die de meditaties begeleiden en lezingen geven over aspecten van Boeddha's tijdloze leer. Meditatie is een belangrijk onderdeel van de Diamond Way praktijk, dus het weekend bevat veel meditatie. Zelfs met zo veel Dharma-activiteit er is ook altijd tijd voor gezelligheid en het versterken van banden met onze vrienden. Channel Project The Channel Project brings together friends from Diamond Way centers in France, Belgium, The Netherlands and the UK. The main activities are an annual summer Channel Retreat and a Channel Tour with Lama Ole Nydahl. These activities are now part of the Diamond Way European calendar and a wonderful opportunity for friends to meet and work together. There are experienced Buddhist practitioners who guide the meditations and give talks on aspects of Buddha s timeless teachings. Meditation is a major part of the Diamond Way practice so the weekend contains a lot of meditation practice, although even with so much Dharma activity there is always time for socializing and strengthening bonds with our friends. 14 P age

16 Boeddhabeelden vullen Volgens de Tibetaans boeddhistische traditie wordt de binnenkant van een boeddhabeeld op een speciale manier gevuld met kostbare voorwerpen, en vervolgens gezegend door een gekwalificeerde lama, waarmee het ultieme bewustzijn van de boeddha wordt uitgenodigd om samen te smelten met het beeld. Op deze manier worden boeddha-beelden als een levend wezen dat zegen kan geven. Het vullen van beelden is daarmee dus een zeer zinvolle activiteit. Er wordt gezegd dat door het vullen van beelden, we de oorzaak creëren om onszelf met realisatie te vullen. Statue Filling [ 9] filling Buddha statues [ 10] the 16th Karmapa Het proces om een beeld te vullen, verbindt je aan de boeddha die het beeld vertegenwoordigt. Er zitten grote voordelen voor lichaam, spraak en geest aan het vullen van een beeld. Door het te vullen, maken we lichaam, spraak en geest van de boeddha compleet, doordat we bijdragen aan de transformatie van hoe we het boeddha-beeld zien. Vertalingen Een aantal vrijwilligers uit de sangha heeft de afgelopen jaren hard gewerkt aan het vertalen en up-to-date houden van de meditatieteksten. Zo zijn de meditatie op de 16e Karmapa en alle vier de Ngöndro-meditaties bijgewerkt. Daarnaast verzorgt het team regelmatig de vertaling van belangrijke of interessante mededelingen van onze lama s en van interviews of verslagen. According to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Buddha statues are filled in a particular way with precious items and then blessed by a qualified Lama so that the ultimate awareness of the Buddha is invited to enter in and merge with the statues. In this way, Buddha statues become like a living entity capable of giving blessing. Filling statues is therefore a very meaningful activity. It is said that by filling statues we create the cause to become filled with realizations ourselves. The process of having a statue filled connects one to the Buddha represented by the statue. There are great benefits for the body, speech and mind in filling a statue. Filling it completes the body, speech and mind of the Buddha by helping to transform how we see the statue. Translations A number of volunteers from the sangha have worked hard to translate and keep the meditation texts up to date in recent years. For instance, the meditation on the 16th Karmapa and all the Ngöndro meditations are now up to date again. The team regularly provides translations of key- or interesting communications from our Lama s and of interviews and reports. Pagina 15

17 Boeken Onze eigen uitgeverij, Stichting Uitgeverij Milarepa, verzorgt de publicatie van boeken van onze boeddhistische linie. Boeken worden zowel traditioneel als digitaal verspreid. Begin 2014 heeft de Duitse stichting het contract getekend waarmee alle publicatie- en vertaalrechten aan hen zijn overgedragen. Het distributierecht van de boeken is gegund aan Stichting Uitgeverij Milarepa. De e-books zijn te koop in de ibooks-store van Apple op Bol.com en in de Kobo-store. Website en Design Er is een flink aantal websites neergezet door het webteam. Zo zijn er websites gemaakt voor: Holland-House, het Channel Project, Rotterdam, Amsterdam en de nationale website. Financiën Het financiële team verzorgt het jaarverslag en draagt zorg voor een juiste financiële verantwoording. Er wordt erop toegezien dat de administratie juist, volledig en zorgvuldig plaatsvindt en dat de gepresenteerde cijfers een representatief beeld van de werkelijkheid geven. Het team bestaat uit professionals en vrijwilligers vanuit diverse groepen. Het team krijgt inzage in de administratie om mogelijke onregelmatigheden vast te stellen. Deze zijn niet aangetroffen. Books Our own Publishing House, Foundation Milarepa, is responsible for the publication of books of our Buddhist Tradition. We publish books both printed and digital. The e-books are for sale in the ibooks store from Apple on Bol.com and in the Kobo store Website & Design There are quite a few websites created by the web team. For example, there are websites created for Holland House, the Channel Project, Rotterdam, Amsterdam- West and the national website. For the technical side of the websites we have chosen a widely supported open-source package that is supported in the Dutch sangha. The design, development and content filling of the websites is obviously done on a purely voluntary basis and without any financial compensation. Finances The finance team is responsible for the annual report and ensures proper accountability. The team consists of professionals and volunteers from various groups.
