Samen met 500 collega s staan we in voor de wereldwijde strategische productplanning en werken onze technische experts in multidisciplinaire teams aan de ontwikkeling van de meest innovatieve Flat TV s.perfect Pixel HD Engine, Ambilight en de net gelanceerde Aurea zijn slechts enkele realisaties van ons wereldwijd gekend kennis- & ontwikkelingscentrum. Opnieuw leverde dit ons de prestigieuze EISA-award op voor de beste Full-HD LCD TV Enkele markante realisaties 2007 : Aurea, Perfect Pixel Full HD : 37 EU Best Product & Green TV 42 Pixel Plus 2 met Ambilight, Europese LCD-TV van het jaar Pixel Plus voor platte TV's, Europese LCD-TV & Plasma TV van het jaar Pixel Plus, nieuw systeem voor ultrascherpe beeldweergave in traditionele TV, Europese TV van het jaar De ultraplatte Flat TV, Europese TV van het jaar breedbeeldtelevisie, Europese TV van het jaar digital natural motion: een techniek die beweging natuurlijk en vloeiend weergeeft digitale televisie. Het Brugse kenniscentrum combineert het ontwerp en de ontwikkeling van het topgamma TV-apparaten met de industrialisatie van deze producten. De groep engineering staat borg voor het transfereren van product- en procestechnologie naar massaproductiecentra. Zij produceert de eerste serie van apparaten en stelt de productstrategie en planning op. Daarna draagt ze de kennis over aan andere vestigingen.

3 Ambient Living - Assignment The living room is becoming more and more an ambient room where people come to lounge and relax after a busy day. In this perspective, watching television shifts towards viewing experience where the viewer becomes part of the package. Nice examples are a Home Cinema System and Ambilight which immerse the viewer. The proposal should be that the future candidate product designer performs a detailed market search what could be done to bring the experience towards to highest perception level to fulfil all our senses, even the sixth one. After this study, the future candidate product designer should create directions where the consumer electronics business should head to, this by means of sketches, detailed and under built mood boards and clear concepts which will be presented to the organisation. 4 Rigid slim & thin - Assignment The continuous drive within Flat TV towards a Slim & Thin design has never been stronger than now. This trend together with the growing display sizes implicates that the rigidity of the Flat TV becomes the no. 1 mechanical issue to tackle. The proposal should be that the future candidate product designer makes the product his own to understand what s slim & thin and what would be the roadmap for future projects. In a second phase, the aim would be to search for a rigid structure to make a slim & thin TV set strong enough to fulfil all mechanical requirements. The chosen concept will be verified by means of a prototype and tested according the severe Philips test plans. 5 How to make our brand your best buddy? A lot of competition is growing in the consumer electronics world and brands need to build a relationship with the upcoming generations to stay on track and continuously answering the needs of our (upcoming) consumers. The big question is of course: What do people desire? The idea is to target on young people, 14 to 25 years old, where the following related questions can be asked: What should our products bring to be the best for the young people and attracts them above other brands? What do they want to spend? What do they miss? The proposals should be covered by a well under built study of the target group, together with a short medium term of technical implementation. Proposals which are related to technical opportunities could be presented and verified by a simple prototype or model. The project can further be explored afterwards, resulting in a stage and a thesis, concerning the ultimate youngster driven product (TV). Lic. 6 Registreren van TV s tijdens de testen met RFID In het labo voor omgevingstesten staan heel veel TV s waarop proeven gebeuren. Het bijhouden van de testgeschiedenis van deze TV s en hardware/software status is via een WEB applicatie (Intranet). De identificatie is nu op basis van een nummer op een sticker. Omdat er veel verschillende projecten zijn en in iedere ontwikkelronde het identificatienummer vanaf het nummer 1 start, komen er nogal veel TV s met hetzelfde serienummer voor. Het labelen met een RFID maakt dat er geen fouten meer kunnen gebeuren bij het identificeren van de TV s. Een bijkomend voordeel is dat TV s die het labo verlaten kunnen worden gedetecteerd door de RFID chip. Het vroegtijdig en/of ongecontroleerd wegnemen van TV s, met testonderbrekingen tot gevolg, wordt zo onmogelijk gemaakt. Taken: Het is de bedoeling dat de student een grondige studie maakt van RFID om dit beknopt in z n verslag neer te schrijven. Na deze studie kan de student het ontwerp starten van de interface. Na het bouwen volgt het testen om te kijken als het ontwerp voldoet. Opdrachten: Studie van RFID. Opzoeken en analyse maken van andere RFID toepassingen. Ontwerpen van een RFID interface. Bouwen van een RFID interface. Testen van het ontwerp. Toepassen van interface in WEB applicatie. 7 Meerdere thesis/stageopdrachten voor Ambilight, een exclusief Philips-feature 1. analyse van LEDs voor Ambilight 2. analyse van LED drivers voor Ambilight 3. analyse van optische systemen voor Ambilight. De Ambilight systemen moeten compacter, goedkoper en performanter worden. Tijdens je stage/thesis krijg je de mogelijkheid om één van bovenstaande deelaspecten, of een combinatie ervan te analyseren en verbeteringen voor te stellen. Voor deze onderwerpen zijn we, bij voorkeur op zoek naar een master in de ingenieurswetenschappen (burgerlijk ingenieur) of master in de industriële wetenschappen (industrieel ingenieur) optie elektronica of optica. 8 Display Interface board 1. Create a board to interface between a Video generator and different displays. The video generator has a fixed output signal. The different displays have various interface signals. The board should reformat the signals according to the display interface specification. 2. Create an interface tool to drive the dimming / scanning behavior of the LED backlight of a display. 3. Foresee switchable outputs to drive the different control lines to a display. Topic 1, 2 and 3 can be combined in one board but executed by one or two students.
