Deze uitgave is twee maal dikker dan de eerste druk in 2008; ruim vijftig bedrijven openden deze keer gastvrij hun deuren voor de fotograaf. Het boek schept een beeld van de dynamische en internationale omgeving van het WTC, waarin mensen en bedrijven zich thuis voelen. Hun kantoorruimte past hen als een mooie, op maat gemaakte jas. Het zijn eigen werelden, binnen de context van het WTC. WTC Centrale Hal Van den Oever, Zaaijer & Partners 1134 m U, lezer, wacht met dit boek een fascinerende, haast antropologische reis langs een keur aan grote en kleine WTC-bedrijven. WTC THE WORLD INTERIORS: OF WTC ORIGINAL AMSTERDAM AND FAMILIAR In your hands, you hold the second edition of the interiors book of the WTC Amsterdam. This edition is twice as thick as the first edition in More than 50 companies opened their doors for the photographer this time. The book presents an image of the dynamic and international environment of the WTC, where people and business feel at home. Their offices fit like a lovely, bespoke jacket. They are small self-contained worlds within the greater universe of the WTC. With this book, Gentle Reader, a fascinating, almost anthropological journey along a selection of larger and smaller WTC companies awaits. A look behind the doors is always special. Every interview says something implicit about the nature and the personality of the company, the growth phase it is in and the company culture. Direct aan het plein - Centrale Hal genoemd - zetelen bedrijven met een dienstverlenend karakter. De podiumkantoren erboven kijken uit op de bedrijvigheid meter De Centrale Hal is 15 meter hoog, wat vraagt om een proportionele maatvoering bij de inrichting. In de totale ruimte is de stramienmaat 7,20 meter. Dit betekent bijvoorbeeld dat de kolommen en bomen in de hal op een afstand van 7.20 meter van elkaar staan en dat de maatvoering in de glazen pui daarvan is afgeleid. inrichting Voorzien van een glazen zuil is de receptie een baken in de hal. De receptioniste achter de hardstenen balie zit op een verhoging, wat de afstand tot gasten vriendelijk verkleint. Achter de receptie strekken zich vier zwartleren zitgroepen uit. Een warm donkerrood tapijt op de natuurstenen ondergrond vormt telkens de basis. Aansluitend bij de stramienmaat van 7,20 meter, is elke zitgroep gesitueerd tussen twee bomen in hun reuzenpotten. Hier heeft verlichting een decoratieve functie: elke zitgroep wordt beschenen door een mega schemerlamp. WTC Centrale Hal Van den Oever, Zaaijer & Partners 1134 m2 m² 2002 materialen Gekozen materialen: staal, natuursteen, glas en leer bepalen de sfeer in de Centrale Hal. In de eerste laag heeft elk bedrijf een glazen pui, onderbroken door één of meer donkergrijze poorten. In de tweede en derde laag is de glazen pui ononderbroken, wat de kantoren optimaal betrekt bij de hal; het doet recht aan de naam podiumkantoren. WTC EVERYTHING INTERIORS: PROPORTION ORIGINAL AND The inner court, surrounded by the A, B, C, and D Towers, is the beating heart of the WTC. The tenants whose premises open onto the court - known as the Central Hall - are all service-oriented companies. Rising above these premises are the podium offices, with a direct view of the hustle and bustle in the Hall. SEVEN METRES TWENTY The Central Hall is 15 metres high. These prepossessing dimensions require proportional dimensions in the decor. The grid size of the total space is 7.2 metres, which means, for example, that the columns and trees in the hall should be placed at intervals of seven point two metres, in order to achieve visual balance. The dimensions of the glass office façades are also based on this grid. MATERIALS Steel, natural stone, glass and leather set the tone in the Central Hall. All of the offices on the first level have glass office façades, interrupted by one or more dark grey portals. The glass façades on the second and third levels are continuous, thus incorporating the offices into the Hall while doing full justice to the designation podium offices. DECOR The glass pillar at the reception serves as a beacon for visitors. Behind the stone counter, an elevated receptionist s chair helps reduce the distance from the visitors, giving a feeling of friendly proximity. Four groups of black leather chairs are placed behind the reception. In keeping with the 7.2 metre grid, each of the groups is placed between two trees planted in massive pots. The lighting plays a decorative role, with sizable table lamps illuminating each of the seating groups. Uniting all of these disparate elements is the dark red carpeting atop the natural stone floor. 6 wereld aan muziek in centrale hal Bij de internationale dynamiek van het WTC past aandacht voor kunst en muziek; beide zorgen voor een lichtvoetige extra dimensie. Verrassend genoeg heeft de Centrale Hal de akoestiek van een concertzaal. De ruimte leent zich zeer goed voor bijzondere lunchconcerten, die er dan ook regelmatig worden gegeven. Het Concertgebouw, maar ook het Bimhuis en Paradiso, komen naar u toe. exclusieve contacten De organisatie van de concerten ligt bij het bureau Classic For You, van de Hongaarse Örzse Ádám. Voor het aantrekken van musici put Ádám - zelf professioneel altvioliste - uit de wereld van de grote concertzalen waarin zij thuis is. Door deze persoonlijke contacten lukt het haar uitstekende musici te werven die je normaal niet hoort buiten het reguliere concertcircuit. Presence Kenmerkend voor de lunchconcerten is het brede, lichtvoetige spectrum aan stijlen. Zigeunermuziek wisselt af met klassieke kamermuziek, jazz, new-fusion en volksmuziek uit Japan, Zuid-Amerika of de Balkan. De musici hebben presence ; hun kleding en uitstraling onderstrepen de sfeer van hun muziek. Wie even tijd heeft en blijft kijken en luisteren, ontdekt bovendien vaak bijzondere instrumenten. Het maakt de muziek boeiend en toegankelijk, ook voor wie nog niet eerder kennismaakte met een bepaalde stijl. Both provide an extra, light dimension. Surprisingly enough, the Central Hall has the acoustic properties of a concert hall. The space is therefore ideal for special lunchtime concerts, which are held regularly. The Amsterdam Concertgebouw Concert Hall, as well as the Bimhuis and Paradiso, come to you. 7 Kunst: tijd voor verwondering Sinds begin 2007 is de Centrale Hal het decor van kleine, levendige exposities. Kunstenaars met zeer uiteenlopende stijlen tonen hun werk in deze bijzondere omgeving. Een museum is de Centrale Hal bepaald niet; objecten moeten dus op eigen kracht intrigeren en de aandacht trekken. Voor wie het WTC bezoekt, behoren de kunstobjecten tot de eerste kennismaking. Feitelijk is kunst daarmee een steeds wisselend visitekaartje. cachet In opdracht van het WTC worden kunstenaars geselecteerd door Art Angels van Marjo van Kleeff. Dit bureau heeft een eigen kijk op de toegevoegde waarde van mooie, vrolijke, gekke en originele objecten in de zakelijke omgeving van de Centrale Hal. Kunst geeft cachet en eigenheid! Het zet de passant even op een ander been. Tijd voor inspiratie of een moment van zalige verwondering. uniek Voor het WTC is Van Kleeff altijd op zoek naar kwaliteit, naast actualiteit en schoonheid. Elke expositie is uniek. Kunstenaars zijn soms autodidact en ervaren, soms nét van de kustacademie. Gebruikte materialen variëren; glas, hout, metaal, keramiek: alles is mogelijk. Stijlen zijn klassiek, speels, stoer of ontroerend. De getoonde kunst heeft gemeen dat er altijd sprake is van een actieve wisselwerking met de omgeving. Toegankelijkheid is een must. Artists in very diverse styles display their work in this special environment. One thing the Central Hall is not is a museum: the objects have to intrigue passersby on the strength of their own merits and attract attention. The art objects are among the first things new visitors to the WTC encounter. That makes the art a constantly changing calling card. CACHET The artists for the exhibits are selected by Marjo van Kleeff s Art Angels on behalf of the WTC. That company has its own view of the added value of lovely, cheerful, mad and original objects in the business environment of the Central Hall. Art gives cachet and individuality! It compels the passerby to change his or her perspective, if only for a second or two. Time for inspiration or a moment of sacred wonder. UNIQUE For the WTC, Van Kleeff is always looking for quality, in addition to topicality and beauty. Each exhibition is unique. Sometimes, the artists are self-taught, sometimes fresh from the academy. The media vary: glass, wood, metal, ceramics. Everything is possible. The styles exhibited range from traditional, to playful, rugged or moving. One of the common aspects of the art exhibited is that it always has to have some kind of active engagement with the surroundings. It must be accessible. In the international environment of the WTC, people from different backgrounds must be able to appreciate it. Who are the artists who exhibit in the WTC? 8 verbonden met de renaissance: doener en vorser Begin 2010 gaf het WTC alle ruimte aan een expositie van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Jits Bakker (1937). Jits is een veelzijdig kunstenaar, maar maakt vooral furore met zijn beelden. Zijn bronzen blaken van beweging, levenslust en uitbundigheid. Zijn marmeren beelden zijn juist ingetogen en intiem. geen middelmaat! Het atelier en de beeldentuin van Jits Bakker bevinden zich in De Bilt. Hier beoefent de kunstenaar zijn allround vakmanschap. Behalve beeldhouwer is hij schilder, tekenaar, aquarellist, glaskunstenaar, graficus en maker van sieraden. Bakker voelt zich verbonden met de renaissance; hij omarmt het principe dat de mens zich zoveel mogelijk dient te ontwikkelen. In disciplines, thematiek, materiaalbeheersing en beeldtaal blijkt hij dan ook een doener en vorser; een man die alles onderzoekt en het goede behoudt. Geen halve maatregelen! Bakker is tot de slotsom gekomen dat het leven waardevol is in uitersten en niet in behoudzucht en middelmaat. tijdloos Jits Bakker ontwikkelde in ruim vijftig jaar een unieke, eigen stijl, waarin de klassieke mythologie niet zelden model staat. Vaak verbeeldt hij de mens; herkenbaar, tijdloos en toegankelijk. Zijn beelden markeren pleinen, straten en gebouwen in diverse wereldsteden. Denk onder meer aan het Portugese Loulé, het Duitse Frankfurt am Main, het Finse Turku en het Spaanse Málaga. Sinds 1999 is op landgoed Beerschoten in De Bilt het Provinciaal JitsArt Museum gevestigd, met een permanente verzameling monumentale beelden. Bakker s werk is bovendien opgenomen in vele andere museale collecties in Nederland en daar buiten. WTC CONNECTED INTERIORS: WITH ORIGINAL THE RENAISSANCE: AND FAMILIAR DOER AND RESEARCHER Early in 2010, the WTC provided space to an exhibition of the work of Dutch artist Jits Bakker (born 1937). Jits is a versatile artist, but he has become best known for his statues. His bronze statues radiate movement, lust for life, and enthusiasm. His marble statues, on the other hand, are restrained and intimate. NO MEDIOCRITY! Jits Bakker s workshop and sculpture garden are in De Bilt. That is where the artist practices his all-round craftsmanship. In addition to being a sculptor, he is a painter, sketcher, glass artist, graphic designer and jeweller. Bakker feels a connection with the Renaissance. He embraces the principle that an individual should develop himself or herself as much as possible. In disciplines, themes, materials, and image vocabulary, he also shows himself to be a doer and a researcher, someone who investigates everything and retains the good. No half measures! Bakker has come to the conclusion that life is valuable in extremes and not in conservatism and mediocrity. TIMELESS Over more than 50 years, Jits Bakker has developed a unique style that is all his own, in which classical mythology quite often serves as a model. He often portrays people. Recognizable, timeless and accessible. His statues are found in public squares, streets and buildings in a variety of cities around the world. Loulé (Portugal), Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Turku (Finland) and Málaga (Spain) to name only a few. The JitsArt Provincial Museum has been open on the Beerschoten Estate in De Bilt since The museum is home to a permanent collection of massive statues. 9 vrolijke, verfijnde mozaïeken Een uit de hand gelopen hobby, noemt kunstenares Marianne den Hartog schertsend haar kleurrijke en zeer gedetailleerde mozaïeken. In het najaar van 2009 was haar werk te zien in de Centrale Hal. Engelentorso s, zwanger van nóg meer kunst, stonden zij aan zij met bont gemozaïekte vazen. Wie een object van Den Hartog bestudeert, kan niet anders dan het verfijnde handwerk bewonderen. Passie Marianne den Hartog (1963) woont en werkt in het dorp Muiderberg, onder de rook van Amsterdam. Een ideale omgeving, vindt zij, om in alle rust haar creativiteit de ruimte te geven. Achterin de tuin bevindt zich haar atelier - haar toverbal - waar haar objecten ontstaan. Haar passie: Alledaagse voorwerpen andere bestemmingen te geven en met elkaar te combineren tot een uniek handgemaakt kunstobject. divers Mozaïek heeft vele toepassingsmogelijkheden; dat blijkt op de site van de kunstenares en in haar tuin. De objecten die in het WTC geëxposeerd werden, zijn slechts een fractie van haar werk. Den Hartog draait haar hand niet om voor taartplateaus die haast eetbaar lijken, romantische spiegels, fantasievolle schalen, uit de kluiten gewassen beelden, speelse wandmozaïeken en robuuste buitenbanken. Motieven worden bovendien doorvertaald naar onder andere textiel, en papier. nooit alledaags Het maken van een object begint bij mij al met het uitzoeken van de materialen en onderdelen, zegt Den Hartog. Fragmenten van bloemetjesserviezen en glaswerk worden met gevoel voor humor gerecycled in haar werk. Den Hartog maakt vaak voorwerpen die je kunt gebruiken in dagelijks leven. Maar alledaags is het nooit. WTC HAPPY, INTERIORS: REFINED MOSAICS ORIGINAL AND FAMILIAR A hobby that got out of control, is how artist Marianne den Hartog refers to her colourful and very detailed mosaics. Her work was on display in the Central Hall in the autumn of Angels torsos, pregnant with even more art, they stood side by side with mosaic-covered vases. Those who study a Den Hartog object can only admire the refined handcraft. PASSION Marianne den Hartog (1963) lives and works in the village of Muiderberg, under the smoke of Amsterdam. She finds it to be an ideal environment with all the rest she needs to give her creativity the room it needs. At the back of the garden, you make your way to her workshop - her magic ball - where her art comes into being. Her passion: Finding a new use for everyday objects and combining them to create a unique, hand-made art object. VARIOUS There are many things that one can do with mosaics. That becomes clear from a visit to the artist s website or her garden. The objects that were exhibited in the WTC represent only a small fraction of her work. Den Hartog is not above turning out cake plateaus that look almost edible, romantic mirrors, fantasy platters, wax statues, playful wall mosaics and robust outside benches. And the themes can also be transposed onto textile, paper, and other media. NEVER THE DAILY RUT I start making an object by choosing the materials and the component parts, Den Hartog says. Fragments of flowerpattern dinner services and glass work are recycled with a sense of humour in her work. Den Hartog often makes objects that you can use in your day to day life. 10 ik schilder wat ik ZelF graag Zou willen dromen In het najaar van 2010 exposeerde Wouter Stips (1944) zijn kleurrijke sculpturen in het WTC. Stips is als vakman en kunstenaar van vele markten thuis. Of hij nu een pen of een penseel ter hand: elk project eindigt in iets wat de moeite waard is. veelzijdig Na de Academie voor de Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam (jaren 60) maakt Wouter Stips poppen in Parijs, animatiefilms in Praag - en hij schildert. Als verdienstelijk televisieprogrammaen documentairemaker laat hij zijn penselen vijftien jaar rusten. Tot Zijn nieuwe werk wordt met enthousiasme ontvangen. De schilderijen - later ook de sculpturen - zijn producten van een rijk voorstellingsvermogen. Stips zegt erover: In mijn werk moet alles kunnen, als in de nog vrije, ongebreidelde geest van een kind. verbonden Stips is actief verbonden met de wereld om hem heen. Zo beschilderde hij in 2000 voor Terre des Hommes een kinderhospitaalschip in Bangladesh. Hij liet zich inspireren door de mensen en het landschap en schilderde wat ik zelf graag zou willen dromen. actueel Inmiddels woont en werkt Stips in Hilversum en in Rafelcofer (Spanje). Aan zijn vaardige handen ontspruiten sinds 2004 kleurrijk keramiek en sculpturen in brons, hout, glas en polyester. Een werk is pas goed als ik er zelf door verrast word, zegt Stips. Actueel is zijn ontwerp van een vriendelijk, multifunctioneel sculptuur, onderdeel van een community art concept voor kunst in de publieke ruimte. Dit concept heet de Een en de Ander en kan op verschillende manieren eigen worden gemaakt. I WTC PAINT INTERIORS: WHAT I WOULD ORIGINAL LIKE AND TO FAMILIAR DREAM In the autumn of 2010, Wouter Stips (1944) exhibited his colourful sculptures in the WTC. Stips is a craftsman and artist who is at home in many media. Regardless of whether he takes up a pen or a brush, each project ends in something that has made the effort worthwhile. ENGAGED Stips is actively engaged with the world around him. In 2000, for example, he painted a children s hospital ship in Bangladesh for Terre des Hommes. He took his inspiration from the people and the landscape and painted what I would like to dream. VERSATILE After having finished his studies at the Academy of the Visual Arts in Rotterdam in the 1960s, Wouter Stips made dolls in Paris and did animation in Prague. - and he painted. He put his brushes to one side for fifteen years while he made his mark as a television programme maker and documentary maker. Until His new work was received with enthusiasm. The paints - and later the sculptures, too - are the products of a rich imagination. Stips explains: In my work, everything must be possible...like in the untamed mind of a child, which is still free. CURRENT Stips is currently working in Hilversum and in Rafelcofer, Spain. Since 2004, his skilful hands have been producing colourful ceramics and sculptures in bronze, wood, glass and polyester. A work is only good if even I am surprised by it, Stips says. A current project is his design for a friendly, multifunctional sculpture, which is part of a community-art concept for art in the public space. This concept is called The one and another ( de Een en de Ander ) and can be internalised in several different ways. wouter stips 16 17

11 vertrouwenwekkend op Zijn hollands Bij Annexum Invest kwam het interieur tot stand met de inbreng indeling van drie partijen. De binnenhuisarchitect, het reclamebureau Medewerkers die zich richten op vastgoed, de belegger of en niet in de laatste plaats: de algemeen directeur. Deze financiën, werken nauw samen in een kantoortuin. Aan de drukte zijn stempel met name op kleurgebruik, maatvoering, zijde van het Zuidplein zijn bovendien acht kantoorruimtes tapijtkeuze en kunst. Zo kreeg het Annexum-kantoor een gebouwd, met een ongebruikelijke maatvoering: 3.60 x unieke uitstraling die past bij het bedrijf. Prima voor telkens één bureau. De directeur bezet zo n kantoor, zijn secretaresse ook. Vergadertafels, balie en werkplekken zijn balans eenvoudig, smaakvol en licht uitgevoerd. Balans en vertrouwen zijn belangrijke waarden voor Annexum, dat voor particulieren belegt in Nederlands vastgoed. De rust huiskamer die de belegger verwacht in zijn portefeuille, weerspiegelt zich Grenzend aan de receptie is de huiskamer. Hier nemen gasten in de orde die het kantoor uitstraalt. EXCITING DESIGN Achieving a maximum spatial effect in a complete office of 336 m² - with a reception area, a facilities area, a kitchen, a meeting room and five work offices - was high on the Bos & Partners wish-list. Interior design company Studio m² made an exciting design to accomplish it. INTRIGUING From the entranceway, visitors look through into the corridor that opens up onto the management and work offices. This vista intrigues! Staggered niches create a suggestive effect of space. The wall at the end of the corridor is clad with matte glass illuminated from behind. If one didn t know better, one would expect to find more offices here. NO OFFICE IS THE SAME. Bit by bit, the broad corridor reveals its secrets. 16 Zuidas in ÉÉn KlaP in beeld Het informatiecentrum van Zuidas Amsterdam - kern van de Zuidas organisatie - is gevestigd in de Centrale Hal. Informeren over plannen en de ontwikkeling ervan in het Zuidas-gebied aan groepen mensen is een primaire taak. Het informatiecentrum onderging begin 2010 een facelift en won aan toegankelijkheid en functionaliteit. De foto-expositie is snel aan te passen aan de thematiek van een bijeenkomst; de rode wand is magnetisch. Ook de verlichting is vriendelijker en strategisch-functioneler geworden.
