LONG LASTING HISTORY Deze statige woning met haar prachtige omgeving staat bekend als landgoed De Menop. De betekenis hiervan voert ons helemaal terug naar de 17e eeuw toen precies deze plek de meest geschikte plek was voor het oversteken van het naastgelegen riviertje. Al mennend met paard en wagen trotseerde men de rivier. Op de plek van het huidige landhuis stond een kroeg die de mensen, al wachtend op laag water, voorzag van de nodige borrels. This stately house and its beautiful surroundings are known as the De Menop estate. The meaning of De Menop takes us all the way back to the 17th century, when this was the best place to cross the nearby stream. The Dutch verb mennen means to lead a horse by the reins and that is exactly how people crossed the river: by horse and carriage. At the site of the current country house there used to be a pub that provided people with drinks until the water reached a low enough level for them to venture across. HOUSE WITH TWO FACES Eind 19e eeuw werd er voor het eerst een landhuis gebouwd dat enkele jaren geleden door de huidige bewoner werd afgebroken en in een korte periode weer opnieuw opgebouwd in de authentieke stijl van weleer, zij het dit keer twee keer zo groot. Opvallend zijn de twee gezichten die het gebouw heeft. Authenticiteit aan de buitenkant maar een state of the art interieur aan de binnenkant, voorzien van de laatste technische snufjes. Bertram Beerbaum (Kabaz architecten) is verantwoordelijk voor de bijna Godfather-achtige sfeer in het interieur die een mondain, groots en warm gevoel uitstraalt. The first country house on this site was built at the end of the 19th century. A few years ago the current occupant knocked it down. Within no time it had been rebuilt in the authentic style of yesteryear, albeit at twice the size. One of the most noticeable features of the house is that it has two faces: an historic exterior and a state-of-the-art interior which is equipped with all the latest technical gadgets. Bertram Beerbaum of Kabaz Architects is responsible for the almost Godfatherlike atmosphere inside the house, which exudes sophistication, grandeur, and warmth. 114 115

It is only natural that Bertram Beerbaum used fittings from his own Tense series in this house. CHAMELEON De collectie Tense bewijst kamelon-achtige trekjes te hebben door haar multifunctionele toepasbaarheid. Zoals de Tense deurkruk letterlijk een brug vormt tussen een rond en een rechthoekig deel, zo slaat Tense figuurlijk een brug tussen het extreem uiteenlopende exterieur en interieur. Van alle toegepaste materialen en producten is het Tense-deurbeslag namelijk het enige element dat zowel binnen als buiten wordt toegepast. The Tense collection, with its multi-functional features, is reminiscent of a chameleon. In the same way it literally forms a bridge between a round section and a rectangular section, it also metaphorically bridges the gap between the contrasting exterior and the interior. In fact, of all the materials and products that were used to build the house, the only element that is used both inside and outside are the Tense door fittings. VERNACULAR ELEMENTS Attiq Ahmed, directeur van AEDL designstudio (Lahore, Pakistan) en hoofddocent Architectuur aan het National College of Arts in Lahore, ontwierp deze bijzonder lichte woning in Lahore Pakistan, die voorzien is van een open woonkamer en ontvangsthal. Met behulp van lokale elementen, zoals een jali of metalen scherm, is er een reeks ruimtes gecreëerd die samen één geheel vormen als de schermen open zijn. Als de schermen gesloten zijn, wordt de open woonkamer onderverdeeld in verschillende kleinere ruimtes. BB4G LEVER HANDLE SATIN BLACK BB0 LEVER HANDLE SATIN BLACK Attiq Ahmed, managing director of AEDL design studio (Lahore, Pakistan) and Associate Professor of Architecture at the National College of Arts in Lahore, designed this light-filled residence in Lahore, Pakistan. The residence centres on a large open-plan living room and reception area. The use of vernacular elements such as the jali latticed metal screen creates a sequence of spaces that flow together harmoniously when the screens are open and partition the room into smaller activity areas when closed. A double-height atrium with a glass roof allows natural light to enter at one end of the open-plan reception area. Aeternum Pvt. Limited, a design studio in Pakistan, acted as executing partner of the project, providing crucial support in achieving the end result and tying together the elements and product details of the interior. The Tense series by Bertram Beerbaum was used to complete the interior design, which has once again proven itself to be internationally applicable for a wide variety of objects and styles. 132 133

TAILOR-MADE SUIT Een huis ontwerpen dat binnen het geldende bestemmingsplan de opdrachtgever gelukkig maakt, is voor Kabaz de ultieme uitdaging. De opdrachtgever had een modern, strak huis voor ogen met een vriendelijke uitstraling. De bouwvlek van de villa in Laren kende echter een paar lastige beperkingen. Het combineren van de wensen met de mogelijkheden van de kavel resulteerde in een huis dat als een maatpak past. For Kabaz the ultimate challenge is to design a house that fits the zoning plan and makes the client happy. The client wanted a modern, sleek house that still had a warm and friendly look. However, the building site for the mansion in Laren had a few tricky obstacles. Combining the wishes with the possibilities of the plot resulted in a house that fits the needs of the client like a tailor-made suit. 144 145
FIRM LUXURY Natuurlijke, gedurfde materialen komen in de villa terug. Het mat zwarte deurbeslag in combinatie met de witte, houten deuren geeft de entree naar de eetkamer aan de voorzijde van de villa een luxe en stoere uitstraling.
