3 Getting started The ServiceGate is developed as part of the Support Solution. With this Router (RE 101a) a connection can be established between the network of the customer and a remotly supportedmachine. This manual will explain how to install the ServiceGate and will guide you through the most important settings within the router for a correct setup. Essentials 1. ServiceGate The ServiceGate is supplied with powe, I / O connectors, network cable and antenna as standard. 2. Web browser The ServiceGate is configured through a web browser. This may be Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or any other web browser. Internetexplorer is recommended. 3. A computer to connect to the Remote Engineer Router. 3

4 Login To configure the Remote Engineer Router, proceed as follows. When the router is connected to a computer by using the supplied network cable, placing it between the computer and the LAN port of the router. You can login to the router by typing the IP-address of the router in a web browser. The default IP-address is: The next screen will appear: You can login on the router by using the default username and password, or by using your specified username and password. The default username is Admin and the default password is REAdmin 4

5 Login After filling in your username and password you are connected to the Router and you are given access to the Router Setup. The following screen will appear. 5

6 Installation Basic Setup The Setup screen is the first screen you will see when accessing the router. Most users will be able to configure the router and get it working properly using only the settings on this screen. Some customers will require settings such as User Name, Password, IP Address, Default Gateway Address, or DNS IP Address. This information can be obtained from your customers IT department, if required. Host Name This entry is necessary for some customers and can be provided by them. Domain Name This entry is necessary for some customers and can be provided by your customer. WAN Connection Type The router supports four connection types: Automatic Configuration DHCP Static IP PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) The different types of connections can be selected from the drop-down menu next to Connection Type. The settings will differ depending on what kind of connection type you select. 6

7 Installation Network Setup This is the router s IP Address and Subnet Mask as seen by external users on the Internet (including your customer). If your Internet connection requires a static IP address, then your customer will provide you with a Static IP Address and Subnet Mask. Gateway Your customer will provide you with the Gateway IP Address. Static DNS Your customer will provide you with at least one DNS IP Address. User Name / Password Enter the User Name and Password you use when logging onto your customer through a PPPoE or PPTP connection. 7

8 Wireless settings The wireless part of your router can run in different modes: AP mode This is the default mode, also called Infrastructure mode. Your router acts as an central connection point, which wireless clients can connect to. Client mode The radio interface is used to connect the internet-facing side of the router (i.e., the WAN) as a client to a remote accesspoint. NAT or routing are performed between WAN and LAN, like in normal gateway or router mode. Use this mode, e.g., if your internet connection is provided by a remote accesspoint, and you want to connect a subnet of your own to it. 8

9 Wireless settings Client Bridged mode The radio interface is used to connect the LAN side of the router to a remote accesspoint. The LAN and the remote AP will be in the same subnet (This is called a bridge between two network segments). The WAN side of the router is unused and can be disabled. Use this mode, e.g., to make the router act as a WLAN adapter for a device connected to one of its LAN ethernet ports. Ad-Hoc mode This is for peer to peer wireless connections. Clients running in Ad-Hoc mode can connect to each other as required without involving central access points. Wireless Network Mode If you have Wireless-G and b devices in your network, then keep the default setting, Mixed. If you have only Wireless-G devices, select G-Only. If you would like to limit your network to only b devices, then select B-Only. If you want to disable wireless networking, select Disable. Note that B-Only mode is not supported under WDS. Wireless Network Name (SSID) The SSID is the network name shared among all devices in a wireless network. The SSID must be identical for all devices in the wireless network. It is case-sensitive and must not exceed 32 alphanumeric characters, which may be any keyboard character. Make sure this setting is the same for all devices in your wireless network. Note: For added security, it is recommended to change the default SSID Remote Engineer to a unique name of your choice. Wireless Channel Select the appropriate channel from the list provided to correspond with your network settings (in North America between channel 1 and 11, in Europe 1 and 13, in Japan all 14 channels). All devices in your wireless network must use the same channel in order to function correctly. Try to avoid conflicts with other wireless networks by choosing a channel where the upper and lower three channels are not in use. 9

10 Wireless settings Wireless SSID Broadcast When wireless clients survey the local area for wireless networks to associate with, they will detect the SSID broadcast by the router. To broadcast the router SSID, keep the default setting, Enable. If you do not want to broadcast the router SSID, then select Disable. Sensitivity Range Adjusts the ack timing in Atheros typical way based on the maximum distance in meters 0 disables ack timing completely adjusts ack timing Check all values and click Save Settings to save your settings. Click Cancel Changes to cancel your unsaved changes. 10

11 Port Forwarding Port Forward Port Forwarding allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, ftp servers, servers, or other specialized Internet applications. Specialized Internet applications are any applications that use Internet access to perform functions such as videoconferencing or online gaming. When users send this type of request to your network via the Internet, the router will forward those requests to the appropriate PC. Note: Any PC whose port is being forwarded must have a static IP address assigned to it because its IP address may change when using the DHCP function. To add a new Port Forwarding rule, click Add and fill in the fields below. To remove the last rule, click Remove. Application: Enter the name of the application in the field provided. Port from: Enter the number of the external port (the port number seen by users on the Internet). Protocol: Chose the right protocol TCP, UDP or Both. Set this to what the application requires. IP Address: Enter the IP Address of the PC running the application. Port to: Enter the number of the internal port (the port number used by the application). Enable: Click the Enable checkbox to enable port forwarding for the application. Check all values and click Save Settings to save your settings. Click the Cancel Changes button to cancel your unsaved changes. 11

12 Accessibility WAN Access This screen allows you to block or allow specific kinds of Internet usage. You can set up Internet access policies for specific PCs and set up filters by using network port numbers. Access Policy This feature allows you to customize up to ten different Internet Access Policies for particular PCs, which are identified by their IP or MAC addresses. For each policy designated PCs, during the days and time periods specified. To create or edit a policy, follow these instructions: Select the policy number (1-10) in the drop-down menu. Enter a name in the Enter Profile Name field. Click the Edit List of PCs button. On the List of PCs screen, specify PCs by IP address or MAC address. Enter the appropriate IP addresses into the IP fields. If you have a range of IP addresses to filter, complete the appropriate IP Range fields. Enter the appropriate MAC addresses into the MACfields. Click the Apply button to save your changes. Click the Cancel button to cancel your unsaved changes. Click the Close button to return to the Filters screen. If you want to block the listed PCs from Internet access during the designated days and time, then keep the default setting, Deny. If you want the listed PCs to have Internet filtered during the designated days and time, then click the radio button next to Filter. Set the days when access will be filtered. Select Everyday or the appropriate days of the week. Set the time when access will be filtered. Select 24 Hours, or check the box next to From and use the drop-down boxes to designate a specific time period. Click the Add to Policy button to save your changes and active it. To create or edit additional policies, repeat steps 1-9. To delete an Internet Access Policy, select the policy number, and click the Delete button. 12

13 Accessibility Summary To see a summary of all the policies, click the Summary button. The Internet Policy Summary screen will show each policy s number, Policy Name, Days, and Time of Day. To delete a policy, click its box, and then click the Delete button. Click the Close button to return to the Filters screen. 13

14 Management Router Management The Management screen allows you to change the router s username and password. Router Password The new password must not exceed 32 characters in length and must not include any spaces. Enter the new password a second time to confirm it. Note: Default username is Admin. It is strongly recommended that you change the factory default password of the router, which is REAdmin. All users who try to access the router s web-based utility or Setup Wizard will be prompted for the router s password. Check all values and click Save Settings to save your settings. Click Cancel Changes to cancel your unsaved changes. Click Reboot router to reboot your router immediately. 14

15 Router reset & WIFI Resetting the router to default settings To perform a factory reset, please follow the steps below. Press the RESET button less than 30 seconds and the router will restart. When the RESET button is pressed for more than 30 seconds, the factory defaults of the customer are loaded via the Internet. Loading these default settings will take about five minutes. The router will reboot after receiving the settings and go online. During the reset procedure the RE-UP light (green) will blink slowly. If the router connects to the Remote Engineer server the RE-UP light will blink rapidly and default settings are loaded. After the router is reset the default settings are loaded into the router Note: If the procedure is not performed properly the router will not be completely reset. IF this happens repeat the procedure. Make sure the router is connected to the internet at all times. WIFI To turn on the WiFi on or off press the WLAN enabled button for 2 seconds. When WiFi is on the LED next to WLAN enabled will turn on blue. RESET knop WLAN RE-UP LED 15

In Italy the end-user should apply for a license at the national spectrum authorities in order to obtain an authorization to use the device for setting up outdoor radio links. In Belgium there is a restriction in outdoor use. The frequency range in which outdoor operation in Belgium is permitted is MHz. 19 Warranty Statement Remote Engineer Warranty Statement Remote Engineer products come with a 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase. Remote Engineer warrants in good operating condition for the warranty period. This warranty does not include non-remote Engineer installed components. If the Remote Enigneer product malfunctions during the warranty period, Remote engineer will, at its discretion, repair or replace the product at no charge, provided the product has not been subjected to misuse, abuse or non-remote Engineer authorized alterations, modifications or repairs. When returning a product, include your original proof of purchase. Return requests cannot be processed without proof of purchase. Shipment of returned product to Remote Engineer is the responsibility of the purchaser. All expressed and implied warranties for the Remote Engineer product line including, but not limited to, the warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are limited in duration to the above period. Under no circumstances shall Remote Engineer be liable in any way to the user for damages, including any lost profits, lost savings or other incidental or consequential damages arising out of the use of, or inability to use, the Remote Engineer products.
