36 Current assessment practice Example demonstrating this shortcoming: The energy efficiency of system 1 is 100%! But: The output of system 2 (heat pump) is much higher than that of system 1 (electrical heater), with the same input. So, what is lost in system 1 is not energy, but quality of energy. 40 Conclusion Further development: Energy analysis is not common in the assessment of the performance of buildings and supply systems. Further development is needed to include exergy analysis in the building practice This is expected to lead to less losses less need for resources more potential for low quality resources (e.g. heat storage) IBPSA-NVL event , Eindhoven 40
