2 Kerstmis 2014 Kerstvakantie Bij sommigen roept het visioenen op van eindeloze feesten, anderen gaan helemaal op in het kerstshoppen. Voor leerlingen en schoolpersoneel is het in elk geval een welgekomen onderbreking van de schoolse routine. Ook de voorbije maanden werd die routine al enkele keren doorbroken met speciale initiatieven, uitstappen, bezinning, lessen die het klassieke patroon niet volgden. Hopelijk vinden jullie de tijd om te lezen wat het voorbije trimester zoal bijzonder maakte voor onze leerlingen. Uiteraard staat niet alles in dit schoolkrantje, hopelijk geeft het wel een beeld van wat er leeft. Achteraan staat ook een afdeling Engelse verhaaltjes. Zo kan u zelf beoordelen hoe het met de talenkennis van de leerlingen gesteld is. Veel leesplezier en niet te vergeten Zalig Kerstfeest en gelukkig Nieuwjaar vanwege het hele OLV- team!

3 6 Handel onderneemt Flower Garden verkocht 115 kerstbomen. Misschien staat er eentje van bij jou thuis te schitteren? De ondernemende leerlingen van deze leeronderneming zullen ons in 2015 nog verrassen met fleurige acties. 6 Handel staat ook op de kerstmarkt in Sint- Genesius- Rode op vrijdag 19 en zaterdag 20 december om lekkere drank en hapjes aan de man te brengen. De opbrengst wordt geïnvesteerd in het TMF StressFactor- festival dat op 18 mei onze school aandoet. Ook dit gebeurt binnen de leerondernemingen van 6 Handel. Het festival doet jaarlijks slechts 25 scholen aan, die zorgvuldig gescreend worden door de organisatie. Hoedje af dus voor de leerlingen en leerkrachten van 6 Handel die TMF wisten te overtuigen. We smeren ze... in 1B Op donderdag 9 oktober smeerden de leerlingen van 1B, Nesrine, Aurian en Sabri, voor het vak 'Techniek' bij mevrouw Malschaert belegde broodjes voor hun gelegenheidsklanten: de leerkrachten van het secundair. Naargelang je bestelling kreeg je voor een milde prijs: een Vleeswolfje: broodje américain met groentjes; een Italiaantje: broodje met mozarella, pesto en groentjes; een Pescitarie: broodje met gerookte zalm en flinterdun gesneden courgette uit de tuin van de juf. Bovendien zaten de broodjes netjes met een kleurrijke servet in een originele verpakking die de leerlingen tijdens de les P.O. gemaakt hadden. Om het helemaal af te werken werd dit leermoment opgevolgd door een tevredenheidsonderzoek bij de klanten : de musical Enkele leerkrachten waren zo enthousiast over de musical dat ze besloten om de leerlingen van de eerste graad er mee naartoe te nemen. En zo geschiedde: de hele eerste graad trok naar de Nekkerspoel in Mechelen om de musical bij te wonen. De leerlingen waren zwaar onder de indruk van de voorstelling, de leerkrachten zeer tevreden over de voorbeeldige leerlingen.

4 OLWEEN De leerlingen van het eerste jaar beleefden een keibangelijk OLWEEN. Voor het tweede jaar op rij konden de leerlingen dankzij de inzet van een heleboel leerkrachten van de eerste graad lekker griezelen en knutselen rond Halloween. De leerlingen van BVL hielpen ook aan de voorbereiding door een paar prachtige skeletten te maken. Oorspronkelijk was de bedoeling om de lessen PO en koken te integreren: in plaats van een servet zouden de leerlingen een skelethand onder het bord leggen. De leerlingen waren echter zo geïnteresseerd dat het uiteindelijk volwaardige skeletten werden. De leerlingen van het eerste jaar leerden onder andere in korte tijd Thriller dansen onder leiding van mevrouw Beeckman. Michael Jackson scoort nog steeds goed bij jongens en meisjes en iedereen danste mee. De ouders mochten even komen meegenieten van alle verklede leerlingen en leerkrachten en natuurlijk ook van de pompoensoep. Daarna konden ze kijken naar een uitvoering van Thriller door de eerstejaars. Na dit angstaanjagend spektakel op de kleine speelplaats kozen de ouders het hazenpad en daarna was de school aan de geesten, kijk maar naar de foto s

7 Bosloop 17 oktober 2014 Ook dit jaar liepen bijna alle leerlingen en enkele leerkrachten de bosloop. Vooraf werd al druk gespeculeerd wie dit jaar de snelste zou zijn op de 2500 meter, maar meedoen is natuurlijk belangrijker dan winnen. De staat van het parcours was een beetje slijkerig, maar al bij al hadden we niet te klagen over de loop- en weersomstandigheden, op de dag zelf was het immers droog. De leerlingen van 7 Kantoor hielpen de L.O.- leerkrachten om de lopende leerlingen in goede banen te leiden en na het lopen te voorzien van een beker water en een appel. s Middags kwamen er ook leerkrachten aan de start: 4 vrouwen en bijna dubbel zoveel mannen. Ook voor volwassenen geldt immers: een gezonde geest in een gezond lichaam. Bij de vrouwen was er een spannende sprint om de eerste plaats tussen mevrouw Beeckman en mevrouw Navarro, bij de mannen was het verschil tussen de derde en vierde plaats miniem, mijnheer Lecompte moest nipt de duimen leggen voor mijnheer Demesmaeker. 8 Sportdag van het tweede jaar Traditiegetrouw fietsten de leerlingen voor deze sportdag naar het Provinciedomein van Huizingen. Daar stonden een aantal uitdagende opstellingen hen op te wachten. De dappere fietsers zorgen overigens goed voor de leerkrachten die wat minder aan fietsen gewend zijn: ze blijven bij hen en steken hen een hart onder de riem voor dat laatste stukje bergop. Toch jammer dat het brede fietspad soms ook door auto s in beslag genomen wordt. Voor de groeiende groep leerlingen zonder fiets was er dit jaar een alternatief: zij namen met een begeleidende leerkracht de bus naar Huizingen. En de sportdag zelf? Kijk maar naar de foto s

10 Sportdag voor het derde jaar: Durbuy Zorgvuldig zekeren voor het steilste stukje van de klettersteig. Ook van Durbuy vind je meer fantastische foto s op smartschool bij Fotoalbum.

11 Berlijn Ongeveer 20 leerlingen van 5 en 6 ASO trokken met mijnheer Laeremans en mijnheer Loonbeek naar Berlijn. Net dat weekend werd de val van de muur herdacht en daardoor was het overal enorm druk. Dit kon de pret echter niet bederven.

12 Biotoopstudie eerstejaars Als we leerlingen en leerkrachten gewapend met regenlaarzen zien verschijnen, dan weten we hoe laat het is: tijd voor de biotoopstudie! Voor de lessen natuurwetenschappen gaan de leerlingen van het eerste jaar naar de Kwadeplas. Daar meten ze de temperatuur en het geluid, ze voeren een grondboring uit en bestuderen wat er leeft. Meestal beperkt de vangst zich tot pissebedden en regenwormen omdat de meeste dieren zich bij de komst van een klas tieners uit de voeten maken. Ook mevrouw Ral maakt jaarlijks van de gelegenheid gebruik om ter plekke een stukje aardrijkskunde uit te leggen. Wat hangt daar in de lucht? Aan de slag met een grondboor.

13 Stadsklassen Alle vierdejaars gingen dit jaar voor het eerst tegelijkertijd naar Antwerpen voor de Stadsklassen. In de les Engels kregen de leerlingen van 4 Handel de opdracht om een brief te schrijven met minstens twee positieve en twee negatieve punten, als variatie op een Letter of complaint. Eén van de brieven leest u hier. Letter for the travel agent Dear director of the Pulcinella Youth Hostel First of all, I would like to thank you for your kindness, patience, hospitality and time. I really enjoyed my stay at your hostel. I slept in room 17 on the first floor. I shared this room with 3 other girls. The room was really cute, but a little too small for 4 persons, especially if I compare it with the room for 6 persons (it was double our size). It had windows everywhere. We had a nice view on the square full of flowers, but at the same time, everyone could see us and inside our room and we could see everyone. We didn t have much privacy except if we did close the curtains because the hostel was surrounded by houses. The bathroom was clean, but the floor of the room was dusty. I slept well. I didn t hear anything. Rest and sleep are important for me when I have such long days. I enjoyed having breakfast at your youth hostel. It was simple, but there was a lot of choice at the same time. This choice is not something common for a youth hostel, but more something for a hotel. The dinner on the other hand wasn t my favorite. The meat was too gummy and the beans too spicy. I m really sorry to say that, but I really didn t like the lasagna we had on the second evening. It was too sugary. I loved the desserts: the pudding and the ice cream definitely made my nights. It wasn t my first time in Antwerp. When I was 10 years old, I went to the Zoo. I remember loving it. But for the rest, I never visited Antwerp before our school trip. Antwerp is a really nice city, but too populated just like Brussels. There is a lot to see, but 2 days weren t enough. I would definitely recommend Antwerp as a city trip. Two days aren t enough, but I think 5 days would be more than enough. I also definitely will come back with my friends for a shopping trip at The Meir. Kind regards, Nell van den Berg

14 Werkplekleren in Kantoor De leerlingen van 5, 6 en 7 Kantoor gingen werkplekleren op verschillende plaatsen: de leerlingen van Retail trokken naar Leuven onder leiding van mevrouw De Buck en de leerlingen van Logistiek gingen naar Shopping Pajot en Ikea onder leiding van mevrouw Denayer. In de les Engels schreven de leerlingen van 5 Kantoor een kort verslag. Hier volgen er twee. Report about Leuven On the 27th of November the pupils from retail went to Leuven to visit a pop up store. We took the train in Sint-Genesius-Rode till Brussels and then we took the train to Leuven. When we arrived there we looked for the place where we had to be. It took a few minutes. Then the guy introduced and told us what we should do. First we made groups of 4 and answered the questions from the quiz. It was a lot of fun. After that we had a break for 5 minutes. After that we had an exercise on the passive people who go shopping in the shops. We gave points on the outside of the shop and the inside. We also watched how the people greeted us or not. After this big exercise we had a break to eat something and shop a little bit. After the break we received a new exercise. Now we had to give points on the active people and interview them. This exercise was more for the social part of the day. When we had done the exercise we talked about all the exercises and the guy told us the reason why we made the exercises. He was very happy about us and gave us mint candies, a book and other candies. At 15.00h we took the train back home. It was a very long travel because there were a lot of problems. 15 Pop- up store The retail classes went together to Leuven to visit a pop- up store. We learned how we have to speak and act with customers. We had multiple tasks. The first one was to visit a store and give our opinion on it. Out of this we could learn what customers want from the looks of a store. Our 2nd task was to talk with random shoppers and ask them questions about the store they just visited. It showed us that we have to learn to speak with random people. The last task was a quiz. My team won the quiz and we received candy, mints and a book about retail. 16 1. ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A TOMATO WHO LIVED IN NEW YORK. HIS NAME WAS TOM. He was always very happy with his beautiful life on the balcony from a flat. One day, he received a letter from his cousin, Ato. Ato was asking Tom to visit him in his bungalow in California the following week. In the letter Ato also told him that he had a girlfriend. He said he was going to marry her in a couple of days and that he d be delighted if Tom could be present on their wedding. Ato promised Tom that he d be allowed to use his brand new hot tub, in case he found the wedding too boring. Tom decided to go to California, even the journey was incredibly long, especially for a little tomato. But after all, family is very important. Two days later, he took the plane to California. Unfortunately, the plane had a technical problem and he had to jump off the plane with his parachute. He landed right in downtown Bananacity. The bananas from Bananacity were very mean people. They arrested Tom and locked him in prison. He was charged for being red. It was dreadful, but in the canteen of the prison he got to know Ketshup, a beautiful female tomato with very soft touch. It was love at first sight. When they first kissed, they both blushed. Luckily, nobody noticed. Tom was highly motivated and dreamt of escaping and fleeing with Ketshup to California. The following day they found two banana peels and used them to disguise themselves as bananas and they escaped through the backdoor. It was still a long way to California, but they were lucky. Tom s uncle Campbell picked them up with his pick-up truck. They arrived in California just in time for the wedding. They were so in love that they decided to make it a double wedding. After the party, everybody was so happy that they decided to go into the hot tub. This event was later known as the birth of the world famous California tomato soup. Just add a little salt and pepper and a pinch of banana peel. Yana and Julian

17 2. ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A TOMATO. HIS NAME WAS TOM AND HE LIVED ON A BALCONY IN LONDON. Tom wasn t just a normal tomato, no he was a really, really happy tomato, living together with all his vegetable friends. Near Christmas time, it was getting a little bit cold, but that wasn t a bad thing for Tom the happy tomato. Tom loved singing all the Christmas carols with his friends. He also liked to write a letter full of wishes to Santa tomato Claus every year. So this Christmas, he wrote a letter to Santa Claus, asking for the biggest love of his life. A few days later, the broccoli- mail brought him a letter back from Santa Claus, saying: Dear Tom the happy tomato, I don t think you re going to be happy anymore after reading this I can t fulfil your wish because love isn t something you can buy or ask for. It is something that has to come right from your little tomato heart. But don t be sad, I ll get you another big present. I m not going to tell you what it is yet. I wish you a very merry Christmas! Santa tomato Claus (ho ho ho) After reading this letter he was really disappointed but also very curious, because he didn t know what this big surprise was going to be. Time had passed and it was Christmas eve. Tom the tomato and his vegetable friends were very nervous and excited for the night they had all been waiting for for a year. They all gathered around the Christmas tree which was nicely decorated with garlands and Christmas baubles (in fact it was just a shrub but that was okay for all of them). Under the tree, at the trunk, there were many packages. Some of them were big, others were very small. One by one they opened their presents from Santa tomato Claus. After a few were opened, it was Tom s turn. With shaking hands he took it. He was a bit disappointed because it was an extremely small package. Actually it was just a letter. In an elegant handwriting his name was written on the letter. He opened the letter and there stood in that same handwriting: Dear Tom the happy tomato, I think you re going to be very happy after reading this I have tried to fulfil your wish and I think it worked After I send that letter back to you, I felt guilty. Because Christmas is a time where everyone s dream comes true. So I went to the love of your life and I showed here your letter to me. I have done what I could, and I think it has worked! A merry Christmas again! Santa tomato Claus (ho ho ho) When Tom the tomato looked up from his letter unable to speak he saw her. She stood in front of him with a shy smile on her little tomato face. That Christmas was the best Christmas Tom the happy tomato had ever had. He was so happy now with his girlfriend that no one called him Tom the happy tomato anymore, but Tom the happiest tomato. 18 3. THOMAS WAS A HAPPY TOMATO. He always laughed and told jokes. The girls tomatoes loved him, because he was so kind and friendly. His biggest dream was to be changed into ketchup and with the money that they would give him for this he wanted to make his family rich. They would live in a veranda with people that would give them water every single day. On the balcony where he lived, there were a lot of cucumbers. Cucumbers are really mean vegetables. If you don't give them what they want, they will make your life a hell. So he always did what they wanted. Thomas was a real gentleman. When the flat owner came to water them, he always let the girls go first. Then one day he got a letter. Dear Thomas the tomato We are happy to announce you that you are selected to take part in the annual Heinz competition. If you win, you can realize your dream. All the tomatoes will be very jealous and you will be turned into ketchup. To be the best tomato there are three conditions: You have to be big, red and juicy. The competition takes place on Monday 30 th of February. The address is Tomatostreet Beersel. Kind regards The Heinz Management. When Thomas had finished reading the letter, he called his mother. He told his mother that he could win a price of 2000$. His mom was so happy that she called the whole family to announce that she was finally rich. Thomas made his suitcase two weeks before the competition. A week passed and Thomas became the most arrogant vegetable of the balcony. He always wanted to be watered first. When the other vegetables tried to talk to him, he would tell them: Why do you talk to me, we aren t on the same level. The big day arrived. Thomas took the train to the industrial area. He was ready to go to the Heinz plant. He grow more and more impatient. When he arrived, there was no other tomato. There was only one other vegetable, the cucumber. Thomas asked the cucumber if there was a Heinz competition. They told him that he had to go to the De Vos Lemmens factory in London. So, he took the train again. When he arrived at the plant he fell into a gigantic bowl with many other tomatoes. When it was full, they made ketchup from the tomatoes and they gave the money to his family. 19 4. ONE DAY, A DAY THAT STARTED LIKE EVERY NORMAL DAY, THE HAPPY TOM- ATO RECEIVED A LETTER. Tom- Ato was surprised, he had never received a letter before! He was so curious, he opened the letter immediately. To his surprise he read: Dear Tom- Ato, This is the Devil speaking to you. I see you have a lot of fun on the earth. That can t be the intention. So as I am The Devil, it s my job to spoil your life! I have been thinking a while about it, how I could do that and I had a fantastic idea: you are going to kill all your friends and family who also live on the balcony. But you are not just going to kill them, you are going to kill them in a terrible way. And if you refuse, I will not only kill them, but you are also going to die: Kind regards, PS If I kill your friends, family and you, it will be much more horrible than if you kill them. After reading the letter Tom- Ato didn t know what to do. It seemed wise to him to sleep it over for one night. The next day he knew what he had to do. Tom- Ato searched the most painful way to die. He doubted between two manners: to squash the tomatoes or to cook them alive. Finally he chose to boil his friends and family alive. The once happy tomato didn t realize what he was doing. He became a real murderer. The rest of the day he prepared his plan because it had to happen that night. That night he was very stressed and he didn t know if his plan was going to succeed. He knew he was very selfish but he really wanted to live on his happy life. That was his only motivation. Night fell and the tomatoes went to sleep. When everything was quiet and all the tomatoes were sleeping, he went outside and he began to cook the water. He felt bad about it but then he thought of the letter. He had to do it, he had no choice. He stunned all his friends and family and hung them just above the pan. And when they woke up they realized they were hanging above a pan with boiled water. They were ready to swim in the hot water or to be more precise they were ready to die. Then The Devil appeared Do it, kill them all! It s the best, for both of us! Now I don t have to kill them and you don t have to die! he shouted. Tom- Ato wanted, above all things, to stay alive, so he cut off the rope, making his friends and family fall in the boiling water. You could hear them scream and you could see how their skin busted open, they were suffering. It was horrible. and then all became quiet The day after Tom- Ato sat on his own place like always, glad to be alive. But before the terrible killing, he hadn t thought about the consequences: now the people who owned the balcony had no longer tomatoes, except one. So the hungry people picked Tom- Ato and cut him in slices. And down under in hell, the Devil was happy and laughing aloud because he got rid of all the tomatoes. Anne and Loriss

20 Bloopers Tijdens het verbeteren leren de leerkrachten ook interessante dingen bij: een bloemlezing. ü Eén van de lagen van het bos is de mossellaag. ü Een eekhoorn kan aan zijn staart voelen dat er een vijand aankomt. ü De appendix behoort tot het voortplantingssysteem. ü Verder bestaan er driehoekige driehoeken en gele vakbonden. De vakbond is een organisatie die de vakbonden verdedigt. ü De gezondheidsindex ontstaat wanneer je ziek of zwanger bent, maar toch nog geld verdient. Voor boekenliefhebbers is er goed nieuws: het nieuwste vertelperspectief is het vogelperspectief. Heeft u soms ook moeite om een kruiswoordraadsel op te lossen, gebruik dan één van de volgende strategieën: ofwel vult u overal uw eigen naam in, ofwel neemt u telkens de volgende letter van het alfabet om een woord mee te beginnen. Goed nieuws voor de feesten: uit 5 flessen wijn van 75 cl halen we tegenwoordig 6248 glazen! Daar klinken we op! Dank Dank aan alle collega s en leerlingen die informatie doorgaven, foto s, teksten.
