7 Bus excursions Fortress stretch Many important events in Dutch history took place in the legendary stronghold Muiderslot. This moated castle, situated strategically at the mouth of the River Vecht, was originally built in 1280 for Count Floris V, who was murdered nearby in Muiderberg in Its 17thcentury furnishings originate from the period of another illustrious occupant, PC Hooft, who entertained in the castle s splendid halls. 8 Flowers Flower tours The famous Amsterdam Bloemenmarkt (Flower Market) on Singel stretches from Muntplein to Koningsplein along the south side of the canal. Its floating, flower-laden platforms are permanently moored these days, and solid enough to fool you into believing they aren t on water at all. Founded in 1862, the market was placed adjacent to the water so flowers and bulbs arriving by boat each morning from the bulb fields could be easily unloaded. Bloemenmarkt Amsterdam City, daily. A visitor s best buy is probably the tulip bulbs, with a vast selection of new colours and shapes being cultivated all the time. Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam City, (dehortus.nl),, daily. This botanical garden was established in 1682 for medicinal purposes; it collected tropical plants and seeds brought by the East India Company. Flower auction FloraHolland Flower Strip, ,, daily. At FloraHolland Aalsmeer ( around 20 million flowers are auctioned every day, from Monday to Friday morning. Der berühmte Amsterdam Bloemenmarkt erstreckt sich entlang der Südseite der Singelgracht. El famoso Bloemenmarkt (Mercado de las Flores) de Ámsterdam, en el Singel, se extiende por la rivera sur del canal que une las plazas de Muntplein y Koningsplein.
