Als u wilt beoordelen of onze boeken geschikt zijn voor uw onderwijs, kunt u beoordelingsexemplaren aanvragen. Daartoe kunt u gebruikmaken van het formulier achterin deze catalogus, of per e mail uw aanvraag naar ons sturen. Docenten kunnen de beschikking krijgen over additioneel materiaal. Maar aan spreadsheets het gebruik ervan, maar ook aan de technologie zelf kleven risico s. Voorbeelden van gevallen waarin organisaties financiële en/of imagoschade oplopen, zijn er vele. Het is dan ook vreemd dat weinig organisaties beleid voeren ten aanzien van spreadsheets. Blijkbaar is er sprake van een laag risicobewustzijn bij het management. Een boek over projectmanagement dat met deze stelling begint moet wel heel bijzonder zijn. En dat is het ook. Dit boek zet aan tot denken en tot kritisch en bewust handelen, en staat boordenvol tips en voorbeelden hoe je als projectmanager jouw project het best kunt aanpakken en hoe je allerlei valkuilen in de verschillende projectfasen kunt omzeilen. Een belangrijke boodschap die dit boek uitdraagt is: steek veel energie (maak stennis) in de oriëntatiefase, de fase waarin nog niet officieel sprake is van een project. Deze aanpak bespaart op de energie die je later nodig hebt bij de overdracht en implementatie van je projectresultaat. We vertellen niets nieuws als we zeggen dat projecten vaak uitlopen, (veel) duurder uitvallen of gewoonweg mislukken. Dit ligt echter niet aan de projectmanagementmethoden zelf, maar aan een juiste, pragmatische toepassing ervan. Vaak stellen projectmanagers zich te dogmatisch op, of houden zich niet aan die elementen uit de methode die voor hun project juist cruciaal zijn. Dit boek heeft als uitgangspunt dat niet de methode centraal hoort te staan, maar het project met zijn probleemstelling, doel en resultaat. Een methode is voor de projectmanager niet meer dan een hulpmiddel om het project te laten slagen. In deel 1 Introductie maak je uitgebreid kennis met de belangrijkste Lean begrippen. Deel 2 Veranderen beschrijft de vormen van weerstand en een aanpak die je kunt volgen om mensen te verbinden met het te volgen Lean traject. Dat inzicht is nodig om vanuit de huidige organisatiecultuur toe te werken naar een Lean cultuur. Lean gaat vooral over mensen en dat is de rode draad in dit boek. Deel 3 Initiatie, belangrijk voor succes is een goede voorbereiding. Deze fase beschrijft hoe je een project opzet om de Lean filosofie op een beheerste wijze in te voeren. Je leert hoe je een Lean project systematisch aanpakt en ervoor kunt zorgen dat bereikte resultaten ook blijvend zijn. Deel 4 Analyse, behandelt de instrumenten om klantwensen en bedrijfsprocessen in kaart te brengen. Een belangrijke reden daarvoor is dat zij de competenties missen die nodig zijn om mensen te managen. Maar beheersing van de zachte managementvaardigheden is voor iedere manager een pre, dus ook voor een engineering manager! Om managende ingenieurs daarmee te helpen, is dit boek ontwikkeld. Ingenieurs managen biedt je veel informatie over de menselijke kant van het managementvak in het algemeen en het managen van ingenieurs, engineering teams en technische projecten in het bijzonder. Het doet dit aan de hand van tal van bekende maar ook minder bekende theorieën en managementmodellen die goed aansluiten bij de belevingswereld van ingenieurs. Josiassen Up coming title Monitoring customer needs: the ultimate effect of PLM is a more effective response to customer needs, so the company must understand in ever increasing detail the requirements of the customer. Product definition architecture: the company must develop a system of capabilities, such as product family specifications, manufacturing process definitions and support process definitions, in order to respond to customer needs. Knowledge process control: knowledge is evolving and changing all the time. Knowledge creation and distribution must be controlled in the same way as a logistical process. Supply chain integration: companies must concentrate on their core competencies and become increasingly dependent on supply chain partners for all of their lifecycle processes; to be successful a company must have control over the capabilities of its partners. Culture and organization: organization is the division of tasks and responsibilities; too greater a division makes processes rigid. Every member of the company must actively support the response to customer needs. PLM IT architecture: PLM is IT driven, but a PLM software system is not a standalone system. It interfaces with a large number of other IT systems, not only inside the company, but also in partner companies along the supply chain. Therefore strong PLM depends on the IT infrastructure, consisting of hardware, networks, operating systems and corporate application systems like ERP. Conclusion PLM is neither a (software) system, nor an engineering playground. Instead, PLM is a chance for organizations to become more effective and efficient. By focussing on the appropriate innovations, new products will be well received in the marketplace. This will increase profit margins and extend the economic lifecycle. By defining building blocks and making sure they can be easily reused in a structured way, all knowledge has to be defined only once. The reuse of standardized building blocks (either technology, manufacturing processes or merely a piece of text) will free up time for real innovation! By managing the knowledge in a structured way and making it easily accessible, new technology can be delivered faster in useful products. Of course, a well tuned PLM software system will be a critical enabler for the improvements stated above. The PLM system should be built fast (enough), and have a flawless integration to other business systems (at least with ERP). But as always, people are the most important component. Although management should provide the appropriate organization, tools, instruction and the likes, the individuals (or perhaps preferably: teams) should understand what they are supposed to be doing. And that is satisfying the identified needs of the customer in an efficient and effective way.

Editorial note PLM originated in the late 1980 s as a software tool to organize product data and improve engineering efficiency. In other words PLM promises sustainable economic growth with products that bring more wellbeing to the society. PLM builds on Information Technology but it is all about knowledge. PLM uses IT to connect the people involved in the product lifecycle, in order to share their knowledge and thus incorporate more knowledge, not only in the design, but in all lifecycle processes. More knowledge means more efficient and more effective processes. The science in PLM is, amongst others, the science and technology of understanding and controlling the flow of knowledge around product lifecycles and to develop methods to intensify and speed up this flow: more knowledge must flow faster from invention to operation.
