3 Wat is IHE Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise IHE is een wereldwijd initiatief van zorgprofessionals en ICT leveranciers om de manier waarop ICT systemen uit de zorg informatie uitwisselen en delen te verbeteren Co-creatie van eindgebruikers en leveranciers, competence centers, SDO s Op basis van vrijwilligheid Profielen: implementatierichtlijnen, definieren transacties (geformaliseerde interfaces) tussen actoren (software-modules) Gebaseerd op geaccepteerde internationale standaards Gestandaardiseerde, testbare informatieuitwisseling tussen systemen Inmiddels meer dan 100 profielen, waarvan XDS de bekendste is IHE is geen product, en geen nieuwe standaard. 4 The problem defined by ErasmusMC Healthcare professionals cannot ensure traceability of medical devices and/or pharmaceuticals due to the inability of healthcare ICT-systems to communicate with each other in a uniform way. Even when all relevant information for the products is provided by manufacturers, ICT systems at various stages of the logistical process cannot communicate product information coming from different barcode systems in a standardized manner. This results in patient risks as well as high inventory cost, waste and out-of-stock situations. 4

5 Context In the US the FDA issued legislation on the Unique Device Identification (UDI) for all medical devices in The accredited organizations that are allowed to provide the UDI are GS1, HIBCC and ICCBA. This legislation will be adopted in the EU in 2017 as well as other regions, adjusted to the needs and requirements of that region. The Netherlands In cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of Health two workgroups are striving for uniform barcoding for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Associations for Hospitals and suppliers are involved, as well as experts that have implemented barcode scanning in their hospital or manufacturing site 5

Systems Unified approach for three globally adopted standards for identification and barcoding: - ICCBBA Blood, tissue - HIBCC pharmaceutical, medical devices - GS1 pharmaceutical, medical devices Content - Product information: ProductId, Batchnumber, CompanyID, Expiration date - Context information: PatientId, CaregiverId, LocationId, DocumenttypeID (only GS1) 6
