1 CURRICULUM VITAE of Marcel Ruygvoorn Practice areas Commercial litigation International arbitration Contracts Sector team Education Sector Team Automotive Sector Team Following my graduation from Leiden University in 1993, I worked for three and a half years as an in-house lawyer for the Royal Dutch Shell Group. In 1996 I moved to Van Benthem & Keulen. I have been a partner since 2004 and manage the Commercial Litigation practice group. Work I focus in particular on contracts and contract liability. As regards contract law, I advise clients who are entering into commercial contracts within the sphere of company law (such as purchase and sales contracts, distribution agreements, cooperation agreements and suchlike). In the field of liability law, much of my time is dedicated to litigation, both before the regular courts and in the context of (international) arbitration. Having a virtually fluent command of German and English, I regularly represent foreign clients. I am an honorary lecturer at Utrecht University where, in addition to my teaching duties, I wrote a doctoral thesis on the doctrine of broken-off negotiations and the legal qualification of conditions precedent in the negotiation process, for which I obtained a PhD in 2009 ('Afgebroken onderhandelingen en de juridische kwalificatie van voorbehouden', series Recht & Praktijk, no. 173).
