1 Foreword Dear Volunteer, This brochure contains a list of Dutch-speaking Brussels-based organisations, that are looking for volunteers. Take your time to read through it! Once you have made your choice, you can contact the organisation of your choice for further information. In the brochure you will find the name, telephone number - and very often the address, too - of your point of contact. This list is especially dedicated to expatriates residing in the Brussels area, as well as others who may want to contribute time to volunteer activities. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to get to know other inhabitants and thereby expand your social network, familiarize yourself with the culture, exercise your language skills, get acquainted with other nationalities, or simply just to have a taste, or look at different ways of life. This experience and knowledge will surely enrich you! And of course, your time and efforts will be much appreciated. Any other questions? 3 Group counseling & working with children and youth Regionaal Integratiecentrum Foyer Dialogue facilitators Foyer is looking for committed individuals with a heart for Brussels and a listening ear that can provide leadership in a round table 'in Dialogue Brussels' During the 'Brussels in Dialogue', from 14 to October 20, 2013, round table dialogues are organized in different Brussels locations. Each round table has 6 to 10 participants from different horizons and is to provide conversation topics and a dialogue coach. The dialogue facilitator brings people together, ensures safety, breaks the ice, keeps the conversation going and makes sure everyone has a chance to speak and makes participants feel at ease. A good dose of empathy can go a long way. Multilingualism and experience with group dynamics are not a requirement but a useful asset. Foyer provides free training on 26 September (17h30-20h) and October 1 (9:30-12pm). Candidate dialogue facilitators are trained in advance on dialogue methods and received a certificate after their training. The training enables the volunteer to lead the dialogue at their table, Dialogue facilitation skills gained may be used in many other contexts. Dialoogbegeleiders gezocht Foyer is op zoek naar geëngageerde personen met een hart voor Brussel en een luisterend oor die tijdens 'Brussel in Dialoog' een dialoogtafel in goede banen willen leiden. Tijdens 'Brussel in Dialoog', van 14 tot en met 20 oktober 2013, worden op verschillende locaties in Brussel dialoogtafels georganiseerd. Rond deze tafel gaan telkens 6 tot 10 mensen van verschillende horizonten een gesprek met elkaar aan, samen met één dialoogbegeleider. Een dialoogbegeleider zet mensen naast elkaar en zorgt voor veiligheid. Hij breekt het ijs, trekt het gesprek op gang en zorgt dat iedereen aan bod komt en zich op zijn gemak voelt. Niet meer of minder. Met een goede dosis empathisch vermogen kom je al een heel eind. Meertaligheid en ervaring met groepsdynamieken zijn geen vereiste maar een handige troef. Foyer voorziet gratis vormingen op 26 september (17u30-20u) en op 1 oktober (9u30-12u). Kandidaat-dialoogbegeleiders worden vooraf getraind in de dialoogmethode en ontvangen na afloop van de opleiding een certificaat. De training stelt hen niet alleen in staat om de dialoog aan hun tafel in goede banen te leiden; de opgedane dialoogcompetenties kunnen ook in een pak andere contexten worden ingezet. 4 Lokaal Dienstencentrum Ellips Animators Our Local Service Center Ellips is an organization which works for elderly people and people who can do with a helping hand. Our service center is under expansion, and soon will open up a brand new polyvalent actvity room. Therefore we are looking for enthusiastic animators (workhours to be negotiated) who can help in preparing activities, act as a guide and/or make presentations. (Organisatie voor Clandestiene Arbeidsmigranten) is a Belgian non-profit organisation that wants to improve the working condition of undocumented migrant workers. One of our current activities is a special project for domestic workers, mainly of Philippine and Latin-American origin. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers for our Sunday afternoon activities! Would you like to learn more about the Philippine and Latin-American community in a multicultural atmosphere? Jij houdt een oogje in het zeil, maar eigenlijk vindt je het net zo leuk als de kinderen zelf. Heb jij zin om samen met hen een namiddag leuke dingen te doen, om te knutselen, te ravotten, te spelen en te stoeien? Je werkt als vrijwilliger en krijgt een vergoeding van 25 /namiddag. Aside from our retouche and costumes workshops, we are busy with a new project: To launch a new costumes central. In cooperation with our costume-designers, we have collected hundreds of costumes in our big warehouse to have these rented out to individuals and theater companies. We are looking for volunteers who will help us sort the costumes, label them and catalog them. If you are interested to help us out, please do not hesitate to contact us. In samenwerking met kostuumontwerpers hebben we honderden kostuums verzameld in een groot magazijn om deze te kunnen verhuren aan particulieren en theatergezelschappen. Kortom door jou kan de keuken vlot draaien. De uren net als de frequentie zijn in overleg te bepalen. Het centrum is open vanaf 8.00 uur tot uur van maandag t.e.m. vrijdag, zaterdag van 8.00 uur tot uur. Community work Catering Martine De Winter tel: 02/ Address Harmoniestraat Brussel Jeugd en Muziek Brussel Jazzy Cook You are responsible for a simple meal (cold lunch) for one or more days for the BRUSSELS YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRA, during their 4-day performance. The Brussels Youth Jazz Orchestra is a project of the Youth and Music Brussels and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Twice a year, 17 young jazz talents who have formed a jazz big band for three years now perform under the coaching of a famous guest conductor (such as Michel Herr, Klaus Lindquist, Lode Mertens, Pierre Drevet and Michael Abene among others). The performances take place in Jazz Station or somewhere else in Brussels. You get a limited budget and we discuss what your plans are. You also do the shopping. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the performance rehearsals and meet young jazz talents as well as internationally well-known jazz composers. And of course, you get free tickets for the upcoming concerts. Jazzy Kok Je bent verantwoordelijk voor een eenvoudige maaltijd (koude lunch) voor één of meerdere dagen voor het BRUSSELS YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRA, tijdens de vierdaagse stage. Het Brussels Youth Jazz Orchestra is een project van Jeugd en Muziek Brussel en het Brussels Jazz Orchestra. 17 jonge jazztalenten vormen voor 3 jaar een jazz big band die elk half jaar door een bekende gastdirigent wordt gecoached (Michel Herr, Klas Lindquist, Lode Mertens, Pierre Drevet, Michael Abene...). De stages vinden plaats in Jazz Station of elders in Brussel. Je krijgt een (beperkt) budget en we bespreken samen wat je plannen zijn. Jij gaat ook naar de winkel. Tijdens de stage geniet je van de repetities en ontmoet je zowel jong jazztalent als gerenommeerde internationale jazzcomponisten. Uiteraard krijg je een vrijkaartje voor de volgende concerten. 13 Dienstencentrum De Harmonie Volunteer social restaurant We are looking for a volunteer to help us in the social restaurant of our local service center, "De Harmonie". include setting the tables, serving food, cleaning up, chatting with the visitors, etc. The hours as well as the frequency can be coordinated. The center is open from 8:00 am till 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. On Saturdays, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm only. Zaalmedewerker sociaal restaurant De vrijwilliger werkt mee in de zaal van het sociaal restaurant van lokaal dienstencentrum De Harmonie. Taken die we hieronder verstaan zijn: dekken van de tafels, opdienen, afruimen, een babbeltje doen met de gebruikers,... De uren, net als de frequentie zijn in overleg te bepalen. Het centrum is open vanaf 8.00 uur tot uur van maandag t.e.m. vrijdag. Zaterdag van 8.00 u tot 14.00u.
