2 In het Nederlandse taalgebied is Uitgeverij Boom nog altijd toonaangevend op het terrein van de filosofie. Een traditie van meer dan veertig jaar wordt daarmee gecontinueerd. Het fonds filosofie bij Boom telt ruim 200 leverbare titels, zowel oorspronkelijk Nederlandstalig als vertaald. Het werk biedt een beschrijving van de verschillende fenomenen van de geest, zoals deze zich op dialectische wijze uit elkaar ontwikkelen. Een magistraal boek, nu in een voortreffelijke Nederlandse vertaling. Hegel is regarded as one of the most influential thinkers in Western history. His key text Phänomenologie des Geistes from 1807 has certainly contributed to this status. The work offers a description of the different phenomenologies of the mind in their dialectical progress of separation. This classic book is now available in an excellent Dutch translation. Eind 2010 deed de Nederlandse filosoof en historicus Leen Spruit een spectaculaire ontdekking in de bibliotheek van het Vaticaan: hij vond het verloren gewaande handschrift van Spinoza s Ethica. Op basis van dit manuscript verschijnt het boek der boeken van de moderne filosofie in in een nieuwe vertaling. Het revolutionaire boek uit de Gouden Eeuw blijkt in onze tijd nog altijd een verbluffende zeggingskracht te hebben. At the close of 2010, Dutch philosopher and historian Leen Spruit made a spectacular discovery in the library of the Vatican: he found the lost manuscript of Spinoza s Ethica. A new translation of the book of all books of modern philosophy based on this manuscript will appear in. The revolutionary book from the Golden Age turns out to still have an astonishing persuasiveness today. Max Weber is een van de grootste figuren uit de geschiedenis van de sociale filosofie en de sociale wetenschappen. Hij schiep de methodologische basis voor een historisch georiënteerde cultuursociologie, onder meer met zijn befaamde boek Die protestantische Ethik und der Geist des Kapitalismus (1905). Met dit werk ontwikkelde Weber een nieuwe positie tegenover de marxistische geschiedenistheorie. Max Weber is a major figure in the history of social philosophy and the social sciences. He created the methodological groundwork for a historically oriented cultural sociology. Sartre started a heated debate in post-war France when he published his Réflexions sur la question juive merely a year after the end of the Holocaust. This manifesto against Antisemitism forms a bridge between 1946 and our times. His vision on racial hatred and xenophobia is still topical. This is a moving and important book for everyone living in the 21st century who realises how little distance there is between freedom and constraint. Van Michel Serres is nog weinig werk in het Nederlands vertaald. Toch geldt deze Franse filosoof internationaal als een van de grootste denkers. Eind verschijnt een Nederlandse vertaling van het in Frankrijk zeer succesvolle en lyrisch geschreven Musique. Een ideale introductie tot zijn werk. Volgens Serres is muziek de volmaaktste uitdrukking van de menselijkheid, de ware taal van de wereld en haar bewoners. Na het lezen van Muziek is de wereld voorgoed veranderd. Little of Michel Serres work has as yet been translated into Dutch. Still, this French philosopher is internationally considered to be one of the major scholars. The end of will witness the publication of a Dutch translation of a very successful work in France, the poetically written Musique. Musique is also an ideal introduction to Serres work. According to Serres, music is the most perfect expression of humanity, the true language of the world and its inhabitants. After reading Musique, one s world is changed for good. > De filosofie van René Descartes ( ) The wordt beschouwd als het fundament van het moderne denken. Zijn oeuvre kwam grotendeels tot stand in Nederland, waar hij woonde en werkte. Bij Uitgeverij Boom verschijnt de Bibliotheek Descartes, een uitgave in acht banden van vrijwel het volledige werk van Descartes, vertaald uit het Frans en het Latijn. Voor de komende periode staat de uitgave van band 4 gepland, namelijk zijn Meditaties over de eerste filosofie. The philosophy of René Descartes ( ) is regarded as the fundament of modern thought. His oeuvre was mainly created in the Netherlands where he lived and worked. Boom Publishers presents the Bibliotheek Descartes. Virtually all of Descartes works are translated from French and Latin in this eight-volume publication. In the forthcoming period, the publication of the fourth volume is scheduled, the Meditations on First Philosophy. Ondanks al het argumentatieve tumult blijft een duidelijk antwoord uit. Marc Slors levert een lucide bijdrage aan deze discussie. There has been a lot of debate on whether neurosciences have (or have not) demonstrated the end of free will in recent years. Despite all argumentative upheaval, a clear answer remains yet to be given. Marc Slors makes a cogent contribution to this issue. He demonstrates in Dat had je gedacht! that brain research is less radical than we often think. Although it changes the perception of our consciousness, it actually says little on free will. Het snapgevoel gaat over het verschil tussen kennis en het gevoel van kennis. Soms hebben wij het gevoel dat wij weten hoe iets zit, terwijl wij niet doorhebben dat dit snapgevoel een illusie is. Herman de Regt en Hans Dooremalen ontleden dit fenomeen filosofisch, evolutionair en psychologisch. Ze laten zien dat wij er gevoelsmatig vaker naast zitten dan wij denken.
