7 Circular economy Waarde behoud wordt gemaximaliseerd door eerst te kijken naar product hergebruik, vervolgens hergebruik van onderdelen en als laatste hergebruik van grondstoffen. Producten worden zo ontworpen en gemaakt dat deze aan het eind van de gebruiksfase makkelijk demontabel zijn en materiaalstromen eenvoudig gescheiden kunnen worden. Tijdens productie, gebruik en verwerking van het product worden geen schadelijke stoffen uitgestoten. De onderdelen en grondstoffen van gebruiksproducten (zoals een lamp) worden hergebruikt zonder kwaliteitsverlies (bijvoorbeeld in een nieuwe lamp, maar wellicht wel in een nieuwe laptop, bijvoorbeeld). De grondstoffen van verbruiksproducten (zoals tandpasta) zijn biologisch afbreekbaar en worden (na eventuele onttrekking van nog waardevolle grondstoffen) teruggegeven aan de natuur. Producenten behouden het eigendom van gebruiksproducten, klanten betalen voor het gebruik ervan, niet voor het bezit. Omdat de prestatie van het product de waarde bepaalt, wordt het leveren van de juiste kwaliteit extreem belangrijk voor de producent. Een van de meest belangrijke succesfactoren is (cross-sectorale) ketensamenwerking gericht op het creëren van meervoudige waarde. Hierbij vermeerdert niet alleen de economische waarde van alle bedrijven in de keten, maar ook de ecologische en sociale waarde. Alle voorgaande 8 punten veronderstellen slimme, bewuste en eerlijke inzet van ons, mensen. De mens is van onschatbare waarde. De verspilling hiervan dient minimaal te zijn en al het beschikbare menselijk potentieel dient benut te worden. Bron: Stichting Circulaire Economy
