Quest for Growth investeert in een totale financieringsronde van 49 miljoen Serie A aandelen met als lead investors Life Sciences Partners (LSP, Nederland) en Sofinnova Partners (Frankrijk) en bijkomende inbreng van Sofinnova Ventures (V.S.), KBC en GIMV (België). MOVETIS NV is een nieuw opgericht bedrijf dat zich gaat toeleggen op de ontwikkeling van gastro-intestinale producten. Movetis wil een onafhankelijk bio-farmaceutisch bedrijf worden dat geneesmiddelen ontwikkelt op basis van producten en technologieën met licentie Janssen Pharmaceutica NV en Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc. (beiden dochterondernemingen van Johnson & Johnson). De portefeuille van MOVETIS heeft een product in fase III klinische gegevens, een product in fase II, twee producten in fase I en 4 componenten in preklinische ontwikkeling. Het meest gevorderde product doorstond drie cruciale positieve testen voor chronische constipatie en is bedoeld voor een grote groep patiënten die momenteel niet bevredigend behandeld kunnen worden met beschikbare laxatiefmiddelen. De andere producten in ontwikkeling zijn gericht op respectievelijk ascites (buikwaterzucht), een ernstige vochtophoping in de onderbuik van patiënten met levercirrose; oprispingen bij kinderen, een regelmatig en dikwijls ernstig probleem bij jonge baby s; diabetische gastroparese en ernstigere vormen van spijsvertering. Het bedrijf zal de fondsen gebruiken voor de verdere ontwikkeling en de erkenning van zijn belangrijkste fase III component, voor de verdere klinische ontwikkeling van zijn drie andere producten en om de vier bijkomende producten naar het stadium van preklinische en fase I klinische ontwikkeling te brengen. 3 MOVETIS NV Closes 49 Million EUR Series A Financing Round Financing provides strong foundation for new specialty company in gastroenterology Vosselaar, Belgium, January 8, 2007 MOVETIS NV, an independent drug development company for gastro-intestinal products, announced today that it has closed a 49-million-euro Series A financing round. MOVETIS will use the funds to complete development and filing of its lead phase III compound, continue clinical development of three other products and move four additional products into preclinical and phase I clinical development. The company's late-stage-development compound for chronic constipation has completed three positive pivotal trials and targets a large group of patients that are currently treated with laxatives without satisfactory results.
