2 Education curriculum vitae Master of Science - IT Product Design As Master of Science in IT Product Design I am capable of solving complex engineering tasks that necessitate knowledge of advanced theory and methods in the relevant field. I am able to contribute actively to development activities in multidisciplinary teams, facilitate teamwork, and build consensus in the team on plans of action. I am able to approach diffuse problem areas, in which the relationship between humans and technology plays a dominant role, with scientifically based methods of inquiry and analysis. I am able to communicate complex findings in writing and orally to both specialists and nonspecialists, to evoke a well-grounded, open exchange of opinions to and to create innovative problem solutions, and evaluate them against use practices and stakeholder interests. Bachelor of Science - Industrial Design As Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design, I have had a more practice oriented approach to design, bringing together the virtual and the physical by actively (quick-) prototyping and iterative design processes. The study differentiates itself from the classical Industrial Design practices, and rather has a strong focus on interaction and experience design with focus on conceptualizing innovative and Intelligent products and services. I worked on both group and individual projects in collaboration with clients, such as Embedded Fitness, Kompan and AreaFiftyOne skatepark. I developed a broad range of skills ranging from ideation to prototyping and from user involvement to actual form giving.

I m passionate about user insights, and bring this passion and human perspective to life in the project teams. I have experience with qualitative research methodologies (evaluative and generative), and I am comfortable leading design teams through the required activities through the design cycle. 6 Eindhoven, 16 juni 2011 In DUTCH Feedback over de Stageperiode Stagiaire: Roy Martens (TU/e, Playful interaction) Coach: Paul van der Rijt (AreaFiftyOne, Art-director) Roy heeft mij gevraagd een korte feedback te geven over hoe ik als coach (namens het skatepark), de stage heb ervaren en hoe ik over het doorlopen traject terug denk... Ook voor Roy gold dat hij onbekend was met de skateboard(-cultuur) en dat het vinden van een goed concept wat extra voorbereiding met zich mee bracht. Het voordeel hiervan is dat hij niet zomaar een voor de hand liggende oplossing zal kiezen, gezien het feit dat hij geen referenties heeft. Iets wat ik als zeer prettig heb ervaren (gezien zijn inzet), verrassend en fris. Na het nodige inlezen en vergaren van info bij ons, is Roy met opties gekomen. Telkens wanneer we een meeting hadden pikte hij zaken op welke hen interessant leken om te integreren. Zaken waar hij als niet skater nooit bij stil had gestaan, maar waar skaters zelf (wij) ook niet bewust mee om gaan. Laat staan er iets mee doen. Nogmaals: verrassend en verfrissend. Over de uiteindelijke oplossing die, middels herhaaldelijk afstemmen is gekozen, kan ik kort zijn: Super-vet!!! Ook de mensen die er bij betrokken waren of die het enkel gezien hebben waren enthousiast en begrepen het spel. Nogmaals, voor mij misschien wel het belangrijkste van juist deze stage, is om te zien hoe iemand van buitenaf deze sport benaderd, interpreteert en met wat voor ideeën hij komt. Persoonlijk vind ik dat Roy daar zeer creatief mee is omgegaan en dat hij tot een passende oplossing is gekomen. Kortom: een plezierige samenwerking en een toevoeging aan het park (mits in praktijk gebracht... (haha!) 7 Eindhoven, 16 juni 2011 In ENGLISH Feedback Internship Intern: Roy Martens (TU/e, Playful interaction) Coach: Paul van der Rijt (AreaFiftyOne, Art-director) Roy has asked me to give some short feedback about how I as a coach (on behalf of the skate park), experienced the internship and how I think back on the whole trajectory... Also in Roy s case applied that he was unfamiliar with the skateboard(-culture), and that s something we find a good concept because it requires some extra preparation. The advantage here is that he will most likely not choose for the obvious solution, given that he has no references. Something I've experienced as very pleasant (given his commitment), surprising and refreshing. After doing a lot of reading and gathering info from "us", Roy came with options. Whenever we had a meeting he picked out the aspects he found appealing to consider integrating. Cases of which he as "non skater" never had thought of before, but where skaters themselves ( we ) do not knowingly deal with it as well. Let alone do something with it. Again, surprising and refreshing. About the final solution, which through repeated tuning was selected, I can be brief: 'Superawesome! "Even the people who were involved or who had only seen it, were enthusiastic and understood the "game". Again, for me, perhaps the most important thing of this internship is to see how someone from outside approaches the sport, how he interprets it and with what ideas he comes. Personally, I think Roy has dealt with this in a very creative matter and that he has come to an appropriate solution. In short: a pleasant cooperation and an addition to the park (if put into practice... (haha!) Responsibility :++, goede planning in relatie tot doelstelling, lette op kosten in relatie tot mogelijkheden. 2. Pro-active attitude :+, geïnteresseerd in onderwerp,wel wat op zich zelf, goed overleg. 3. Critical :+, in staat aanpassingen te doen op basis van ervaringen, in overleg bereid tot nader onderzoek (games), wel eerste focus op zijn idee. 4. Drive, enthusiasm :++, werkt hard, gemotiveerd 5. Collaboration : +/-, veel op zichzelf en thuis/universiteit, wel steeds tijdig overleg om keuzes te maken. 6. Time management : ++, op tijd, goede planning en in staat nog uitbreiding in onderzoek te doen (business case). B) Work input The student was asked to C) Work output : het ontwerpen van een interactieve bewegingsgame, allereerst gericht op jong volwassenen (werknemers). 1. Results (quality) : ++ leuk item, na doorontwikkeling goed in te zetten, niet bij de doelgroep. Kwaliteit in proof of concept vraagt om verbetering, is beschreven in businesscase. 2. Results (quantity) :++, werkend prototype, goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding mogelijk. D) Remarks : Positieve stage met resultaat dat mogelijk gerealiseerd gaat worden.

Critical : +, able to make adjustments based on experiences, in consultation prepared to do further research (games), though first focus was his idea. 4. Drive, enthusiasm : ++, works hard, motivated 5. Collaboration : +/-, much on himself and at home/university, yet always timely consultation to make choices. 6. Time management : ++, on time, good planning and even able to do an expansion on his research (business case) B) Work input The student was asked to C) Work output : design an interactive motion game, first aimed at young adults (employees) 1. Results (quality) : ++, nice item, after further development it could be highly applicable, however not with respect to the intended target group. Quality in proof of concept calls for improvement, but is described in business case. 2. Results (quantity) :++, working prototype, good price quality relationship possible. D) Remarks: Positive internship with a result that may be realized.
