Door het aanpassen van hun hoogte in de waterkolom zijn botlarven in staat hun gemiddelde transportsnelheid tijdens vloed significant te verhogen ten opzichte van de watermassa waarin zij zich bevinden. {dit proefschrift) 2. Het accumulatieproces van botlarven in de kinderkamer vertroebelt het inzicht in het larventransport. {dit proefschrift) 3. Een verhoogde bemonsteringsintensiteit in ruimte en tijd leidt bij vislarvenonderzoek in een zeer dynamisch watersysteem niet noodzakelijkerwijs tot betere schattingen van procesvariabelen, maar vooral tot inzicht in de betrekkelijkheid van de uitkomsten van een minder frequente bemonstering op een enkele locatie. {dit proefschrift) 4. Het (rekenkundig) gemiddelde van de wekelijks gemiddelde concentraties levert geen betrouwbare maat voor de aanvoer van larven in de kinderkamer. {contra Van der Veer, H.W., M.J.N. Bergman, R. Het bestaan van kruisingen tussen schol {Pleuronectes platessa Linnaeus, 1758) en bot {Platichthys flesus Linnaeus, 1758) biedt onvoldoende grond voor het veranderen van de wetenschappelijke naam van de laatste in Pleuronectes flesus. {contra Wheeler, A. De sturing van wetenschappelijk onderzoek door beleids- en beheersvragen leidt tot 'floundering'. 8. Gelet op de stijging van het aantal WAO-gevallen dient in onze maatschappij haast gemaakt te worden met onthaasting. 9. Bot vangen heeft niets te maken met het vangen van bot.
