Vertaler Hans Driessen vertaalde onder meer lijvige teksten van Schopenhauer, Nietzsche en Peter Sloterdijk. Hij schrijft recensies voor de Volkskrant, De Groene Amsterdammer en Trouw. In 2006 verscheen het Klein cultureel woordenboek van de filosofie. Voor zijn gehele vertaaloeuvre kreeg hij in 2010 van het Nederlands Letterenfonds de Prijs voor de vertaler als cultureel bemiddelaar. Hij is de eerste vertaler van literaire non-fictie die met deze prijs is bekroond. In 2012 verscheen zijn sprankelende vertaling van De toverberg van Thomas Mann en recentelijk maakte hij het weerbarstige Minima moralia van Theodor W. Adorno beschikbaar in soepel Nederlands. Dichteres Laura van der Haar is winnares van Poetry Slam Ze werkt als archeologe. Naast haar werk volgt ze de Schrijversvakschool en is ze redacteur bij het online literaire tijdschrift Hard//Hoofd. In juni vertegenwoordigt ze Nederland op het Wereldkampioenschap Poetry Slam in Parijs. Onderzoeksjournalist Stan de Jong was redacteur van HP/De Tijd en Nieuwe Revu. Hij publiceerde een aantal boeken, onder andere één over de maffia in Nederland en een ongeautoriseerde roemruchte biografie van eurocommissaris Neelie Kroes. Zijn meest recente boek is De vlucht van een paradijsvogel, dat zich afspeelt in Nederlands Nieuw-Guinea. Toneelschrijfster Gijsje Kooter studeerde dramaschrijven en literaire vorming aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht en Film, Theater en Creative Writing aan de University of North Carolina at Greensboro in de VS. In 2000 werd ze uitgenodigd door het Royal Court Theatre in Londen voor de International Residency for Emerging Playwrights, waar ze o.a. werkte met Harold Pinter. Haar teksten werden gespeeld in Nederland, België, Engeland, Zweden en de VS en wonnen internationale prijzen. Bij Uitgeverij Theaterboek verschenen de bundels Stuk (2008), Moeders & Dochters (2009) en De wereld is ondertiteld (2011).

2 Sprekers Schrijfster Mirjam Oldenhave heeft meer dan twintig kinder- en jeugdboeken op haar naam staan. Ze debuteerde in 1995 met Mama. Momenteel is een tweede verfilming uit haar populaire boekenserie Mees Kees in de maak. Oldenhave schreef het Kinderboekenweekgeschenk van Copywriter Janna Pronk belandde na de Willem de Kooning Academie aanvankelijk als art director in de reclame, maar zag vrij snel in dat het woord meer bij haar past. Ze heeft inmiddels ruim twintig jaar conceptontwikkeling en copywriting achter de rug. Bij diverse reclamebureaus, als partner bij een eigen bureau en als zelfstandig communicatieadviseur. Kunstenaar Robert Simon woonde als New Yorker lange tijd in Parijs, maar is tegenwoordig ingezetene van Amsterdam. Hij is multimediakunstenaar, schrijver en docent. Hij studeerde filosofie en kunstgeschiedenis aan Harvard University. Daarnaast studeerde hij studio art. Hij publiceerde, in de Verenigde Staten en in Europa, over tal van onderwerpen, zoals culturele theorie en geschiedenis. Hij doceert media, conceptuele ontwikkeling en creatief schrijven aan de opleiding Media, Informatie en Communicatie van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam. Journalist Robert Slagt is oprichter van Slagtekst, dat een breed pakket aan journalistieke diensten voor media, bedrijven, instellingen en overheid biedt. Slagt behaalde een MA International Journalism aan City University in Londen. Hij werkte vervolgens als buitenlandredacteur bij AP en RTL Nieuws en als eindredacteur bij Metro, RTV Noord-Holland en Triv (Sanoma). Sinds 2003 is hij zelfstandig journalist, tekstschrijver en eindredacteur. Momenteel werkt hij onder meer voor Quest en het Financieele Dagblad. Daarnaast doceert hij journalistiek aan de Hogeschool van Amsterdam en traint hij voor Free Press Unlimited journalisten in Oost-Europa en het Midden-Oosten.

3 Sprekers Docent Martin Slagter studeerde Nederlands en wijsbegeerte en is als docent Nederlands, journalistiek en filosofie verbonden aan verschillende scholen en opleidingen, waaronder Hogeschool Utrecht (HBO Recht), Hogeschool Geesteswetenschappen Utrecht (HBO Filosofie, Journalistiek & Media) en het Instituut voor Filosofie. Hij is parttime werkzaam als tekstschrijver en eindredacteur (ConText Tekstproducties) en schrijft regelmatig opiniërende artikelen in de Volkskrant en NRC Handelsblad, o.a. over taal in het onderwijs. Uitgever Jürgen Snoeren is directeur/uitgever van uitgeverij LINK. Hij studeerde literatuurwetenschap aan de Universiteit van Tilburg. Hij begon in 1998 als redacteur bij uitgeverij J.M. Meulenhoff en was daarna redacteur en uitgever van Meulenhoff-M, Mynx en het Meulenhoff Boekerij non-fictie fonds. Als directielid van Meulenhoff Boekerij was hij als digital manager en manager operations ook verantwoordelijk voor het opzetten van het digitale fonds. Voor hij begon met LINK was Snoeren bij Elsevier actief als marketingmanager e-boeken voor Europa, Midden-Oosten, Afrika en Latijns-Amerika. Vertaler Willem Visser is filosoof. Voor uitgeverij Boom vertaalde hij, samen met Jabik Veenbaas, de drie Kritieken van Immanuel Kant en diens Prolegomena naar het Nederlands. Met Maarten Doorman publiceerde Visser het vele malen herdrukte Denkers in de ring, een bloemlezing uit de geschiedenis van het denken waarin filosofische kwesties prikkelend voor het voetlicht worden gebracht. Verder vertaalde Visser o.a. Het ressentiment in de moraal van Max Scheler. Onlangs verscheen van hem de Nederlandse vertaling van G.W.F. Hegels hoofdwerk Fenomenologie van de geest. Redacteur Arnold Vonk studeerde geschiedenis en journalistiek in Groningen. In 2000 begon hij bij de Volkskrant als eindredacteur en werd later coördinator van de nieuws- en opiniepagina s van dit dagblad. Sinds 2004 geeft hij ook training en advies. Daarnaast heeft hij ervaring als ghostwriter. Hij doet dit werk inmiddels via een journalistiek adviesbureau, De Nieuwsmakers en Beeldvormers.

Translator Hans Driessen has, among others, translated considerable works by Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and Peter Sloterdijk. He has been a book critic for the Volkskrant since 2003, and also writes for the Groene Amsterdammer and Trouw. His Small cultural dictionary of philosophy was published in In 2010 he was awarded the Prize for the Translator as Cultural Intermediary from the Dutch Foundation for Literature for his entire oeuvre as a translator; he is the first translator of literary non-fiction to whom this prize was awarded. In 2012 he produced a scintillating translation of Thomas Mann s The Magic Mountain, and more recently rendered the difficulties of Theodor Adorno s Minima moralia in supple Dutch. Poet Laura van der Haar is the winner of the Dutch Poetry Slam She works as an archeologist, studies at the Schrijversvakschool in Amsterdam and she is an editor for the online literary magazine Hard//Hoofd. In June she will represent the Netherlands at the World Championship Poetry Slam in Paris. Investigative journalist Stan de Jong was an editor for HP/De Tijd and Nieuwe Revu. His publications include a book about the Mafia in the Netherlands and an unauthorized biography of EU commissioner Neelie Kroes. His most recent book is De vlucht van een paradijsvogel, which takes place in Dutch New Guinea. Playwright Gijsje Kooter studied Drama Writing and Literary Education at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, and Film, Theater and Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the US. In 2000 she was invited to the International Residency for Emerging Playwrights by the Royal Court Theatre in London where she worked with Harold Pinter amongst others. Her plays have been performed in the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Sweden and the US, and she has won various prizes. Her collections Stuk (2008), Moeders & Dochters (2009) and De wereld is ondertiteld (2011) were published by Theaterboek.

5 Biographies Writer Mirjam Oldenhave has more than twenty children s- and young people s books to her name. She debuted in 1995 with Mama. At this moment a second film adaption of her popular book series Mees Kees is in development. As well, Oldenhave wrote the Kinderboekenweekgeschenk of Copywriter Janna Pronk went to the Willem de Kooning Academie (the Rotterdamse Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten) and ended up as an art director in the advertising world, but quickly realized the written word would suit her better. She has worked for more than twenty years as a copywriter and concept developer at various advertising agencies, as a partner at her own agency, and as a freelance consultant. Artist Robert Simon was born in New York City, was a long-time resident of Paris, and currently lives in Amsterdam. He is a mixed-media artist, writer and teacher. He studied studio art, philosophy and art history, and did his graduate studies at Harvard University. He has published in the US and Europe on topics in cultural theory and history. He lectures in media, concept development and creative writing at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (Media, Informatie en Communicatie). Journalist Robert Slagt is founder of Slagtekst, which offers journalistic services to media companies, foundations, and the public sector. Slagt received an MA in International Journalism from the City University in London. He then worked as an editor for AP and RTL Nieuws and as a chief editor for Metro, RTV Noord-Holland and Triv (Sanoma). Since 2003 he has been a freelance journalist, text writer and editor. He currently works for Quest and Het Financieele Dagblad, lectures in journalism at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and trains journalists in Eastern Europe and the Middle East for Free Press Unlimited.

6 Biographies Lecturer Martin Slagter studied Dutch and philosophy. He lectures in Dutch, journalism and philosophy at various schools and colleges, including Hogeschool Utrecht (HBO Recht), Hogeschool Geesteswetenschappen Utrecht (HBO Filosofie, Journalistiek & Media) and the Instituut voor Filosofie. He is a part-time text writer and editor (ConText Tekstproducties) and regularly writes opinion articles for the Volkskrant and NRC Handelsblad, among others, about language in education. Publisher Jürgen Snoeren is director of the publisher LINK. He studied literature at the University of Tilburg. In 1998 he began as editor at the publishing house J.M. Meulenhoff and was publisher at Meulenhoff-M, Mynx and Meulenhoff Boekerij non-fictie fonds. As a board member of Meulenhoff Boekerij he was digital manager and operations manager, and responsible for starting the digitale fonds. Before he began with LINK he was marketing manager of e-books for Europe, the Middle East and Latin America at Elsevier. Translator Willem Visser is a philosopher. For the publisher Boom he translated into Dutch, together with Jabik Veenbaas, Kant s three Critiques as well as his Prolegomena. Together with Maarten Doorman he published the Denkers in de ring, an anthology of the history of thought in which philosophical issues are presented in a provocative way. Furthermore, he translated Ressentiment by Max Scheler and more recently, Hegel s major work, Phenomenology of the spirit. Editor Arnold Vonk studied history and journalism in Groningen. In 2000 he started as a chief editor at the Volkskrant, and later became coordinator of the news and opinion sections. He has been giving training and advice in writing since 2004, and has experience as a ghostwriter. Currently he does this through a journalistic consulting agency De Nieuwsmakers en Beeldvormers.
