2 Vermogens elektronica juni 2014 Haagse Hogeschool Delft Het Vermogenselektronica Event vindt plaats op dinsdag 24 juni 2014 bij de Haagse Hogeschool Delft. Het doel van dit seminar is de diversiteit van toepassingen, innovaties en kennis te tonen op het gebied van Vermogenselektronica. Het programma is samengesteld in overleg met de capaciteitsgroepen DC Storage en Electromechanics and Power Electronics (EPE) van de TU Delft. Op deze manier is een kwalitatief sterk programma neergezet waarbij zowel de praktijk als de wetenschap aan bod komen. De breedte van de markt, namelijk toepassers, ontwikkelaars, toeleveranciers en kennisinstituten komt bijeen op het Vermogenselektronica Event Met vakgenoten kunnen visies, ervaringen en kennis worden uitgewisseld. Het congresprogramma met 27 lezingen en de kennismarkt maken dit event tot een dag waar u zeker bij moet zijn. De diversiteit wordt getoond door drie keynote speakers en drie parallelle sessies met specifieke, technologische presentaties. 3 Ontvangst DC versus AC DC versus AC connection for integration of renewable energy sources and storage (EVs) is addressed in the presentation. Several examples of DC grids and systems with high efficiency will be shown. Development of power electronics technology for DC grids and challenges will be discussed too. TU Delft, Pavol Bauer Electrification of Transport: Power Electronics Technology for On-board The electrification of transport is picking up momentum as norms are introduced to reduce CO2 emissions. Electric trains and trams were the first and are now being followed by vehicles for personal transportation. Ships and planes are also becoming more electric to increase the efficiency and reduce emissions. This fast growing application field is strongly driven by the need for light weight converters, high demands for availability and reliability and complex system integration engineering. In the presentation an overview will be given of recent power electronic technology developments and expected future developments and challenges will be discussed. Een sluipmoordenaar in de elektrische installatie is harmonische vervuiling. Deze is niet direct zichtbaar maar kan soms zelfs productiestilstand of brand tot gevolg hebben. Wij informeren u over wat harmonische vervuiling is, wat de gevolgen en de oplossingen zijn. Hyteps B.V., Christan van Dorst namens Schaffner New electrolytic capacitors vs film capacitors designs in DC link applications - Getting rid with old prejudices In inverter applications frequently standard Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitors or standard Film Capacitors are used. However today s sophisticated developments in the field of power electronics require a new range of capacitors that can be built to customer specifications. New developments provide a new range of so called Fischer-Link capacitor banks (film or electrolytic capacitors) giving the benefits of a compact design, high ripple current load and low inductivity for DC Link applications. FTCAP GmbH, Thomas Ebel on behalf of Elincom Electronics Toepassingen met Li-Ion batterijen, het Batterij Management Systeem en de rol van vermogenselektronica Li-Ion technologie komt tegenwoordig overal voor en wordt steeds betaalbaarder. PRE deelt in deze presentatie haar ervaringen met Li-Ion technologie in elektrische auto s, elektrische fietsen, netgekoppelde solar (PV) systemen en mobiele solar laders. Verder wordt de rol van het Batterij Management Systeem toegelicht, alsmede de rol die vermogenselektronica hier kan spelen. Power Research Electronics, Menno Kardolus en Mark Gröninger Physical Models and Real Time Simulators for the Conception of Complex Systems De spreker gaat in op de koppeling van simulatiemodellen met hardware experimenten. Het concept van hardware in the loop is bekend, waarbij een controller functioneel wordt getest door stimuli komende van een simulator. Het concept van power hardware in the loop gaat verder en neemt vermogen actuatoren op in de experimenten. Zo kunnen in labo s meer realistische experimenten worden uitgevoerd met echte vermogens. Tijdens de presentatie wordt het concept, de toepassingen, de mogelijkheden en uitdagingen aan de hand van enkele cases toegelicht. This supports the general tendency in reducing volume for a given power loss or increasing the power for a given volume. MeccAL srl, Stefano Ricci namens KWX Using pol modules to manage tight voltage tolerances for high speed, low voltage ICs Today s high speed digital circuits need low voltages within tight tolerances. Load current steps are aggressive, and PCB layout is critical. Here we will show how voltage tolerances can be managed and modelled, resulting in proof-of-design whilst minimising cost and PCB area, and maximizing reliability. 4 Pauze Overcome your power test challenges Many power systems supply power when it is opportune. They rely on bi-directional and regenerative energy systems and devices for storage. When engineers develop and manufacture these systems, they need the ability to source and sink at kilowatt and greater power levels, make power and energy measurements, which presents a challenge for test engineers. The most common approach is to use separate instruments for sourcing and sinking. However, this approach has shortcomings that can be overcome only by having the sourcing and sinking functions fully integrated in a single instrument or system. In order to ensure the stability and reliability of the electrical network, distribution system operators are forced to find ways to control bi-directional power flows and identify new methods to provide ancillary services to support the main electricity grid by making use of the flexibility provided by power electronic devices. This presentation presents some state-of-the-art methods that are used for this purpose and introduces the potential for finding new solutions. TU Delft, Laura M. Het voordelige, volautomatische SMT proces is dan ook een snelle en economische productiemethode. Het hierin integreren van klassieke through hole-componenten ligt daarom voor de hand. Hoe werkt het, wat zijn de voordelen en waar moet ik rekening mee houden om ook grotere componenten (bijv. connectoren en printklemmen) te integreren? 5 A review of common measurement errors while debugging nowadays high efficiency DC/DC and AC/DC converters Many parameters contribute to the overall accuracy of your measurements: DC accuracy, poor Common Mode rejection, Voltage - Current time delay, vertical AC accuracy. The errors introduced will be reviewed, as well as their impact on the final results using statistical analysis. An overview will be given of the influence of some typical oscilloscope settings, such as digital sampling rate, measurement BW and vertical A/D resolution. Teledyne LeCroy, Tony Minchell namens AR Benelux Improve the efficiency and reduce the size of power solutions Toshiba develops ultra-small and more efficient MOSFETs. The latest series provides a 30% reduction in Ron with improved efficiency and reduced size. In this presentation the advantages and challenges involved in applying smaller MOSFETs will be discussed using recent business cases. Toshiba, Turadj Aliabadi on behalf of Glyn Contactless charging of electric vehicles Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) for contactless or on-road charging of Electric Vehicles (EVs) will be surveyed in this presentation. Basic principles and challenges for power electronics and IPT systems using inductively coupled coils to transfer power over a large air gap will be presented. Compensation (resonant) topologies and high operational frequency of power transfer systems allow obtaining maximum efficiency and high power transfer capability. TU Delft, Prasanth Venugopal Power measurement based on DSO technology, really? Two basic technology principles of Power Analysers will be explained during this session, the single-shot (DSO) type and the averaging type. We will look into all their features and benefits. How accurate is the power measurement with a single-shot type? What type do you need for low power factor measurements? What type is better for in-rush power measurements? But how can a small Hall sensor support this? A key factor will be the precision of current sensing in high efficient inverters. The presentation will show a new coreless approach, how to do high accurate current sensing. In combination with special compensation methods the performance can even be guaranteed over the whole lifetime. Infineon Technologies AG, Michael Brauer on behalf of Rutronik System integration of Wide band gap power electronics - opportunities and challenges Wide band gap power semiconductors offer a potential for paradigm shift in power electronics, due to their fast switching, low losses and high operating temperatures. Opportunities for application of GaN and SiC in different applications (lighting, PV, consumer, aerospace etc) and challenges in exploiting the full potential of these devices will be the topic of the talk. TU Delft, Jelena Popovic-Gerber De noodzaak van lineaire voedingen/amplifiers in bepaalde applicaties Ondanks de vele voordelen van geschakelde voedingen/amplifiers zijn er nog tal van applicaties waar lineaire oplossingen noodzakelijk zijn. Het lineaire concept stelt ons in staat om schone hoogfrequente amplifiers te bouwen die toch ook relatief grote vermogens en hoge spanningen aan kunnen. En dat zonder de hoogfrequente ruis van een geschakelde voeding. De spreker gaat tijdens de lezing in op de noodzaak van moderne lineaire voedingen/amplifiers, ook voor uw applicaties. 6 Pauze SiC-based Dual Active Bridge as a module for high efficiency dc-dc converters Renewable energy applications require converters with high flexibility and efficiencies, that are capable of handling high voltage levels while providing galvanic isolation. These features can be accomplished by employing a Dual Active Bridge (DAB) circuit as a basic module of the power electronic converter. Furthermore, efficiency improvement using SiC MOSFET over Si IGBT based DAB leads to converters with higher power density for operating blocking voltages above 600V. TU Delft, Todor Todorcevic Electrolytic capacitors in power electronics As the electrical parameters of electrolytic capacitors are changing, depending on the application and load conditions, the life time of the capacitor must be considered very carefully by the engineer. The speaker will give an impression of the technology of the capacitors in order to choose the right suppliers, introduce possibilities of calculating the life time of the capacitors of Jianghai and inform about some tips and tricks for a successful layout. Kostenbesparing in de aanleg, minder verliezen en minder complexe systemen zouden deze belofte moeten waarmaken. Maar is het allemaal wel zo eenvoudig? Hoe zit het met stabiliteit, veiligheid i.v.m. afschakelen, reliability van halfgeleiders, lokale opslag, vehicle to grid? En hoe werkt dat snel laden van batterijen? Dat DC-netten, ondanks praktische problemen, veel te bieden hebben, laat deze presentatie zien. Simulation Research Caspoc, Peter van Duijsen De invloed van vermogenselektronica in de scheepsbouw Aan de hand van de elektrische installatie van een 20MW zelfvarende snijkopzuiger (Self Propelled Cutter Suction Dredger) worden de specifieke eigenschappen en uitdagingen van het scheepsnet toegelicht. Waar vroeger nog veel werktuigen diesel-direct werden aangedreven heeft dit schip als opwekking 2 dieselmotoren van 10MW, met op iedere motor 2 generatoren, die het scheepsnet genereren van 690V, 50Hz. Het vermogen wordt vooral gebruikt voor het baggerproces, waarbij zoveel mogelijk het maximale vermogen benut wordt om een zo groot mogelijke productie te bereiken. De grootste verbruiker is de baggerpomp met 4200kW (4500A). De verbruikers zijn direct op het scheepsnet aangesloten via vermogensomzetters, wat uitdagingen oplevert met betrekking tot de harmonische vervorming (22%), de grote stromen, de relatief kleine ruimte en alle gevolgen daarvan. Contactless charging system of electric vehicles The stationary charging will be demonstrated on scaled model with concentrated coils and remote controlled car. Experimental breadboard for on-road charging (distributed coils) will be shown too. Modular DC/DC converter with 98,5% efficiency for renewable energy sources This project deals with the design, control and efficiency optimization of a high voltage bi-directional modular multilevel DC/DC power converter. DC grid with OPAL RT control A real-time digital simulator (OPAL-RT) fed with real measurements closes the power-hardware-in-the-loop control demonstration and is used to emulate the behaviour of the Dutch offshore wind farm Egmond aan Zee connected to the multi-terminal dc network. System integration of Wide band gap power electronics - opportunities and challenges This demonstration illustrates the research activities on system integration of SiC and GaN devices. The demonstrators show the potential of Wide bandgap devices for achieving higher efficiencies, higher switching frequencies and higher power densities. High-speed drive system for aerospace applications The development of high speed permanent magnet machines with power electronics for application in aerospace.
