11 MAATSCHAPPELIJKE IMPACT Impact is defined as the portion of the total outcome that happened as a result of the activity of an organisation, above and beyond what would have happened anyway (Clark et al., 2004, p7). As such, impacts can be differentiated from intentions, outputs and outcomes. While outputs and outcomes are related to the provider of the product, activity or service, impacts are associated with users (Kolodinsky et al., 2006) and other stakeholders. Ambitie en doelstellingen Wat hoop je te bereiken met deze aanpak? Veranderingen op vlak van inkomen, attitudes, vaardigheden, gedrag, machtsverhoudingen, beleid? Activiteiten en capaciteiten Wat doe je concreet? Activiteiten/opleidingen organiseren, producten maken/verkopen, diensten leveren, sensibilisering, belangenverdediging? Welke middelen heb je ter beschikking en hoe zet je deze in?

15 VOORBEELD: TITELSTIJL VAN FAIR MODEL TRADE BEWERKEN VISIE We believe that trade can be a fundamental driver of poverty reduction and greater sustainable development, but only if it is managed for that purpose, with greater equity and transparency than is currently the norm. We believe that people can overcome disadvantage and marginalization if they are empowered to take more control over their work and their lives, if they are better organised, resourced and supported, and can secure access to mainstream markets under fair trading conditions. We also believe that people, businesses and civil society institutions in the developed world are supportive of trading in this way. This is particularly the case when they understand the needs of producers and the opportunities that Fairtrade offers to change and improve their situation. Our work is driven by informed consumer choices, and the desire of business to meet the expectations of their customers, both of which provide crucial support for wider campaigning to reform international trade rules and create a fairer economic system

16 VOORBEELD: TITELSTIJL VAN FAIR MODEL TRADE BEWERKEN Missie/doelstellingen: Fair Trade streeft naar een armoedevrij bestaan van producenten en wil hun levenskwaliteit verhogen op vlak van gezondheid, educatie etc. Fair Trade verandert de economische relaties en machtsverhoudingen in de international handel via een eerlijke prijs en een kortere keten tussen producent en consument. Het informeren en sensibiliseren van de consument is daarbij zeer belangrijk. Fair Trade helpt producenten om ecologisch verantwoord te werk te gaan om biodiversiteit te behouden en duurzaam om te gaan met de natuurlijke omgeving. Activiteiten: Handelsrelaties: kortere keten opzetten, productieproces bij kleine boeren begeleiden, correcte prijs betalen, proces en product certificeren Maatschappij en milieu: boeren ondersteunen om op milieuvriendelijke wijze te produceren, om sociale acties op te zetten (educatie, gezondheid), consumenten sensibilseren ivm eerlijke handel

17 VOORBEELD: TITELSTIJL VAN HET BUURTPENSIOEN MODEL BEWERKEN Visie: geloof in het principe van wederkerigheid, zorgondersteuning hoeft niet per se geregeld te worden binnen het economische en financiële systeem, mensen zitten soms verlegen om hulp te vragen of om hulp aan te bieden. Doelstelling: zorgen dat (oudere) mensen, ook degenen die over weinig middelen beschikken, in hun zorgbehoeften kunnen voorzien, nu en in de toekomst. Aanpak: via lokale werkingen worden hulpvragen en hulpaanbod bemiddeld tussen buren. Een soort tijdbank houdt prestaties bij zodat hulpgever later, op een andere plek of via een andere organisatie in zorgbehoeften van zichzelf of anderen kan voorzien.

28 MONETARISEREN TITELSTIJL 5. HET MONETARIZEREN VAN VAN MODEL MAATSCHAPPELIJKE VAN BEWERKEN JOUW IMPACT? MAATSCHAPPELIJKE WINST INTERESSANT? De vraag of maatschappelijke winst al dan niet gemonetariseerd moet/kan worden is onderwerp van veel controverse. Het berekenen van de kost die de maatschappij uitspaart is niet enkel moeilijk, het is ook de vraag of alles in geld uitgedrukt kan en moet worden. Langs de andere kant is het monetariseren van maatschappelijke winst bijvoorbeeld wel een heel sterk communicatiemiddel. Voor elke die de overheid jou geeft, hoeveel spaart ze er zelf uit? Voor elke die je investeert, wat is de monetaire opbrengst? Ook klanten, sponsors en andere financiers kunnen verleid worden door de business case voor jouw concept.

Social Return on Investment : - framework for understanding, measuring and managing the outcomes of an organisation s activities. - can encompass all types of outcomes social, economic and environmental - is based on involving stakeholders in determining which outcomes are relevant.

30 SROI OF CREATE POTENTIAL Create Foundation CIC is a social enterprise which currently runs outside catering business in Leeds, Sunderland, Liverpool and Doncaster and a restaurant in Leeds to provide employment opportunities for vulnerable and formerly homeless people. It also runs Create Potential, an academy supporting trainees looking for employment. This offers a 12-week course preparing clients for work. About 10 people go through the programme each month. It is this academy that has been the subject of Create s first SROI programme. Create decided to undertake a full, forecast SROI.

Approach To involve stakeholders, Create: spoke to trainees through group interviews did individual interviews with representative staff in Create sent a questionnaire to external agencies including a partner agency sent questionnaires and did interviews with a small number of government agencies. Materiality and impact

32 SROI OF CREATE POTENTIAL the SROI process uses financial comparators or 'proxies, informed by its stakeholders, to give a financial value to the impact made. For example, - Create s business managers hoped that the trainees would provide extra capacity (valued as extra staff working three days per week at minimum wage) but also feared that working with trainees would be time consuming as trainees would need more support to train and manage (valued at 30% of each manager s time). - Create s trainees explained that an outcome for them would be improved confidence. They said they could have got that outcome elsewhere by doing a course. Create used this to develop a proxy based on the cost of a local training course on assertiveness and self-esteem. In Out

33 SROI OF CREATE POTENTIAL Create reports that its students identified a wider range of outcomes than it expected. - getting a job was important, - getting back in touch with their families, - getting off benefits and - becoming financially independent. One unexpected outcome for an external agency working with Create was that its staff learnt more about working with homeless people. So Create s team has sought more contact with the staff of that agency to maximise those outcomes. The forecast SROI shows that the social impact value for the Academy in its first year is likely to be between 2.10 and for every pound invested
