This range of archiving options is completed by media safes, which provide combined security against fire and burglary, and our IT security cells, which help you to provide complete rooms with fire-proof furnishings. Transit Cases Media Rack Media Cabinet Data Backup Cabinet The robust and waterproof Turtle Case provides excellent protection for all kinds of data storage media during transportation and shipping. The ingenious design of the impactresistant, ribbed, patented outer shell acts like protective armour and is anti-static. The case, being double-walled, absorbs shocks; the air space within has a heatinsulating effect and mitigates temperature changes. The open stretch racks, which can be loaded on one side or both sides, are particularly suited to archiving smaller to medium supplies of different technologies. To supplement these racks, there is an add-on unit, which doubles the storage capacity once again. The multi-media racks equipped with sliding units are designed for medium to large supplies. All these space-saving rack systems also provide clearly arranged archiving in the smallest of areas in the computer centre. The steel cabinet with two fully extractable vertical telescopic drawers archives a wide variety of media. The individually suppliable lower shelves, centre ledges or rubbarized brackets and racks in any number of formats enable you to adapt the cabinet at any time to changes in data storage media and media formats. Furthermore, ball-bearing rollers allow both telescopic drawers to be pulled out simultaneously. This media cabinet is suitable both for individual storage and mass archiving of tapes. 9 9 Archiving Labelling Bar Code Labels A bar code refers to an optoelectronically readable code consisting of parallel lines and spacings of variable width. The term code here does not stand for encryption, but for representation of data in binary symbols. Data in a bar code is automatically read and electronically further processed using optical reading devices (scanners, cameras). Changes to HP LTO labels: The familiar dual bar code label is now only recommended for LTO-1 and LTO-2. Only a single bar code label will be supplied in future for LTO-3 and LTO-4. Should you still be using dual bar code labels and wish to continue to do so for optical reasons, we can continue to supply the dual bar code for LTO-3 and LTO-4, but you must mention this specifically in the purchase order. 10 10 Protection and Data Service Degausser Why Degausser? A degausser is used to delete entire audio, video and data signals completely from magnetic storage media. A degausser exposes the data storage medium to a powerful magnetic field. Several delete operations are usually performed. The unit of magnetic flux density, the gauss, is the source of the name degausser. As the delete operation not only deletes the actual data store, but also servo and maintenance information in the case of hard discs, an intact hard disc will also be destroyed after the delete operation in the degausser. Apart from hard discs, any magnetic data storage media (audio, video, data), diskettes and magnetic cards can be destroyed. Simple overwriting does not completely delete magnetic data. Only a degausser provides 100% removal of data and ensures secure and complete erasure of confidential data. We can offer you a range of different services, as follows: Cassette Labelling Service We can supply you with the bar code labels for all magnetic tapes and all robotic systems/libraries also in the form of cleaning and diagnostic labels. As a special service, we can supply data storage media with the label of your choice. Laser Etching Your cartridges can be laser-etched with names, company logo or even sequential numbers. Cassette Initialization/Re-Initialization Would you like to have new or used cassettes quickly operational again without the need to commit precious resources and time? Our initialization service performs the initialization of new or used cassettes according to your specifications. The service covers all common formats (3590J and E, 3592, 3592E, 9840, 9940 and T10000) and special formats, and can only be performed with the hardware, software and personnel resources of OpenStorage. The cassettes are initialized using an independent system. Multiple Use of Your Backup Tapes (not for tapes with servo track) Your magnetic tapes will be uniformly and completely erased. This means that the costs for new tapes will be limited to the expansion of your system. Cassette Disposal On request, we can also provide professional disposal of your tapes. CD-R Reproduction, Pressing and Duplication For a production run of more than 300 CD-ROM copies, the reproduction method of duplication is unacceptably expensive. In such cases, it is better to have CD-ROMs pressed in accordance with the industry standard. A master CD-ROM with the required content first needs to be created, a step which incurs one-off costs. This master is then used to create an exact press mould, enabling you to produce as many exact mirror copies of your master CD-ROM as you want. Using this production process, you pay only a fraction of the cost of the corresponding number of blank discs. The larger the production run, the lower the unit price. CD-R/DVD Imprinting We can imprint your CD/DVD according to your specifications using a silk-screen process (special colours available on request). Magneto-optical storage media are your guarantee of the highest data security. 15 15 Systems and Structures Solid State Drive A Solid-State Drive (SSD), also called Solid-State Disc, is a storage medium which can be installed and addressed like a conventional hard disc. It contains no rotating disc or other moving parts, as only solid-state memory modules of similarly large capacity are used. The advantages of a Solid-State Drive are robustness, short access times and low energy consumption. Disadvantages involve capacity and price. If a conventional hard disc is equipped with a solid-state (buffer) store or is used in a functionally similar way, it is known as a hybrid hard disc (HDD).
