4 1.Inleiding Introduction Voorwoord Voor u ligt de 4 de uitgave van de catalogus EUCANED waarin alle producten zijn opge - nomen, welke door de op de Nederlandse markt worden verkocht en geleverd. Op deze plaats willen wij met een woord van dank onze bijzondere waardering laten blijken voor de inzet van de vele mensen die aan het tot stand komen van deze catalogus hebben meegewerkt. Introduction You have in hand the 4 th issue of the EUCANED catalogue, where all the products are shown, which is selling on the Dutch market. We thank all our participants, who have contributed to set up this catalogue. De geschiedenis In 1747 begonnen de voorouders van de huidige eigenaars, de familie Bourseaux, een kleine werkplaats voor de fabricage van hennep touwen. In 1909 is men gestart met de productie van elektriciteitsdraad. Vanaf dat moment was de ontwikkeling niet meer te stoppen. Hoewel de vooruitgang nog steeds doorgaat, werd de geschiedenis in 1995 bekroond met de bouw van een uiterst moderne fabriek voor glasvezelkabels. Hiermee werd het leveringsprogramma gecompleteerd. History In 1747 the Bourseaux family built a workshop to manufacture hempropes. Aware of the importance of electricity, a production of electrical cable was started in The production facilities were enlarged step by step; in 1995 a new plant for optical fibre cables was started. De organisatie Het hoofdkantoor is gevestigd in het Belgische Eupen waar tevens de diverse fabrieken en technisch zeer hoogwaardige laboratoria staan. Dochterbedrijven zijn onder andere gevestigd in Duitsland en USA. In Nederland staat het distributiecentrum (Eupendis Nederland b.v.) in Zeewolde. Vanuit deze vestiging wordt de verkoop en distributie voor Nederland verzorgd. Organisation is located at Eupen (East part of Belgium), where the main production facilities, the administration and very well equipped laboratories are on one site. Other facilities are located in Germany and USA. The distribution centre in the Netherlands (Eupendis Nederland b.v.) is located in Zeewolde. From this logistic centre the shipments are going to all parts of the Netherlands. 4

100 Materialen voor speciale toepassingen Materials for specific requirements Knaagdierbescherming Bij het aanleggen van netwerken dragen mechanische beschadigingen en knaagdierschade een groot deel bij aan de onderhoudskosten. Muizen, ratten, hamsters en eekhoorns zijn, afhankelijk van de regio, de grote bedreiging voor direct begraafbare kabels en kabels in buis, goot of ladder. Grote kans op knaagdier-beschadi - gingen zijn aanwezig in stedelijke riolering, kelders en tunnels. Daarom raden wij aan om, tijdens het ontwerp - proces, speciale aandacht te geven aan de routering van de kabels en, indien nodig, het gebruik van speciaal ontwikkelde kabels met aangepaste knaagdierbescherming. Met betrekking tot bescherming van kabels tegen knaagdieren zijn verschillende experimenten uitgevoerd door internationale instellingen om de meest effectieve kabelbescherming te vinden. Verschillende metalen en metaalloze varianten, met verschillende niveau s van bescherming, zijn ontwikkeld en getest. Op basis van testresultaten en productie-ervaring, kan twee verschillende vormen van knaagdierbescherming aanbieden: Metaalloze knaagdierbescherming: Een dikke laag glasgaren onder de mantel weert knaagdieren af zodra ze er in bijten. Een alternatief is om een sterk en dun materiaal, zoals Polyamide, te gebruiken als buitenmantel. De metaalloze elementen dienen alleen als bescherming tegen knaagdieren door ze aan te passen aan de diepte van bijten van knaagdieren. Metalen knaagdierbescherming: - Staalband: een 0,15 mm dikke gegolfde staalband, in de lengte aangebracht voordat de buitenmantel aangebracht wordt in het productieproces. - Staalband: twee 0,1 mm dikke staalbanden worden overlappend (helix) aangebracht voordat de buitenmantel aangebracht wordt in het productieproces. De metalen knaagdierbescherming is de meest effectieve knaagdierbescherming die beschikbaar is. Rodent protection Amongst the problems encountered during the network life, mechanical damages, in particular civil works and rodent attacks are considered as the major contributor to the maintenance cost. Mouses, rats, hamsters, squirrels, depending on region and environment, are the endangering for direct burial cables and cables in ducts, drain, on trays and in over designed tubes. High risk of rodent damages to optical fibres cables are typical at city drains, basements and tunnels. We therefore recommend that, during the design stage, special attention should be paid to the routing of the cables and, if needed, to the use of cables specially designed with adapted rodent protection. With regards to protection of the cables from rodents, various experiments were carried out in international institutes to find the most effective means of cable protection. Various metallic and non-metallic variants, exhibiting different levels of protection against rodents, were developed and tested. Resulting from tests carried out and based on it s manufacturing experience, Kabelwerk Eupen AG proposes two different means of rodent protection: Non-metallic rodent protection: A thick layer of glass yarns placed under the outer sheath repels rodents as they start biting it. An alternative is to utilise a strong and sleek material, like Polyamide, for the outer sheath of the cable. The non-metallic elements should only be seen as a protection against rodents by limiting how deep into the cable a rodent will bite. Metallic rodent protection: - corrugated steel tape : a 0.15 mm thick steel tape corrugated and longitudinally applied before outer sheath extrusion during the manufacturing process. - steel tape: two 0.1 mm thick overlaying steel tapes are helically wound around the cable before outer sheath extrusion during the manufacturing process. The metallic rodent protection is the most effective protection available. 100
