1 N e d e r l a n d s ( E n g l i s h b e l o w ) S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 1 M a r n i x B e l Beste medestudenten, Aankomend jaar wil ik, Marnix Bel, me volledig gaan inzetten om net als vorig jaar de Ti SEM studenten te vertegenwoordigen op facultair niveau. Afgelopen jaar heb ik samen met mijn fractiegenoten deelgenomen in studentenpartij ECCO en hebben wij de belangen en visies behartigt van TiSEM studenten op het gebied van onderwijs, onderzoek, beleid en besluitvorming. Een van mijn speerpunten aankomend jaar zal het verbeteren van de zichtbaarheid van de faculteitsraad zijn. Afgelopen jaar hebben we op dit vlak flinke stappen gemaakt en het bereik van onze partij enorm vergroot. Naast mijn studie ben ik ook actief lid bij T.S.R. Vidar, vervul ik commissies bij Front en de Academic Business Club en speel ik golf op nationaal niveau. Het zou net als afgelopen jaar een eer zijn om jullie belangen aankomend jaar te mogen behartigen in de faculteitsraad! E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 1 M a r n i x B e l Dear fellow students, In the upcoming year I, Marnix Bel, want to fully commit myself to represent the Ti SEM students on a faculty based level. The past year I was a member of student party ECCO and as a party we represented the interests and visons of TiSEM students in the areas of education, research, policy and decision-making. One of my focal points next year will be improving the visibility of the Faculty Council. Last year we made major advances in this area and the range of our party greatly increased. Besides my studies I m also an active member of T.S.R. Vidar, fulfill commissions at Front and the Academic Business Club and play golf on a national level. It would be just like last year, an honor, to represent your interests next year in the Faculty! 1

2 N e d e r l a n d s ( E n g l i s h b e l o w ) S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 2 M a r k v a n W i j g e r d e n Waarde medestudenten, Vorig collegejaar was ik de voorzitter van Asset, de studievereniging voor alle TiSEM studieprogramma s. Waarschijnlijk heb je aan enkele van onze evenementen meegedaan. Waarschijnlijk heb je mij daar niet gezien. Ik deed mijn werk op de achtergrond, bouwend aan het fundament van een organisatie. Dat jaar hebben we erg goede stappen gezet bij Asset. Datzelfde ben ik van plan bij ECCO. Het belangrijkste is dat we ervoor gaan zorgen dat er duidelijke en korte lijnen zijn tussen studenten in de collegezaal en beleidsmakers in het Koopmansgebouw. Nu is er een immense afstand tussen werkelijkheid en wenselijkheid. ECCO kan en moet daar een belangrijke rol in spelen. Dit kunnen we realiseren door een nauwere samenwerking met Asset aan te gaan, daar zijn meer dan 500 studenten actief. Vanwege mijn ervaring ben ik in de ideale positie om dat te organiseren. Asset is the study association for all TiSEM programs. You probably have participated in some of our events. You probably did not see me there. My work was behind the scenes, working on the very foundation of an organization. That year, we have made great progress with Asset. I plan to do the same with ECCO. The most important thing is creating short and clear communication lines between students in class and policy makers in Koopmans building. Currently, there is an immense difference between reality and the ideal situation. ECCO can and should take a crucial in this. We can realize this by having more intense cooperation with Asset, as we have more than 500 active students. Due to my past occupations, I am in the ideal position to make this happen. 4 N e d e r l a n d s ( E n g l i s h b e l o w ) S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 3 J o n a v a n L o e n e n Beste medestudenten, Ik, Jona van Loenen, wil me aankomend jaar volledig in gaan zetten om de belangen van de TiSEM studenten te behartigen. De studenten zijn de ervaringsdeskundigen welke vanuit hun perspectief een kritische blik kunnen werpen op de verbeterpunten van deze universiteit. Maar om achter deze punten te komen, moet de communicatie jegens studenten verbeterd worden en moeten ze actiever uitgenodigd worden om hun mening te geven. Hier wil ik aankomend jaar dan ook aan bijdragen. Door de ervaring die ik buiten mijn studie op heb gedaan bij diverse organisaties als Integrand, Unipartners, Asset, Fractie Front en nu De Kleine Consultant; heb ik ondervonden hoe essentieel het is om jezelf te ontwikkelen buiten je studie. Het helpt om jezelf te leren kennen én om aansluiting te vinden op de arbeidsmarkt. Echter, zijn er nu tijden aangebroken welke de student forceren om zo snel mogelijk het diploma in de wacht te slepen en in combinatie met de prestatieafspraken die de universiteit moet halen, wordt de afstand tot de arb eidsmarkt alleen maar groter. Ik wil me in gaan zetten om dit gat te verkleinen. De maatschappij vraagt om ontwikkelingen, waar we als universiteit gehoor aan moeten geven Understanding Society. Het zou een eer zijn om jullie belangen aankomend jaar te mogen behartigen. Hopelijk kan ik rekenen op jouw stem! 4

5 E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 3 J o n a v a n L o e n e n Dear Fellow students, In the upcoming year I, Jona van Loenen, would be honored to serve the interest of the TiSEM students. In my opinion the students are the experts of this University who, from their perspective, can take a critical look at the points of improvement. But to find these points of improvement, the communication towards student has to be improved and they should be actively invited to give their opinion. I would like to contribute to this next year. Through the experience outside of my education within several organizations like Integrand, Unipartners, Asset, Fractie Front and currently De Kleine Consultant; I have experienced how important it is to develop myself outside of my study. You learn a lot about yourself but it also helps to form a basis for the first step into the labor market. However, now the students are forced to get their diploma as fast as possible and combined with the performance measures that the University needs to achieve, the gap between academic education and the labor market becomes larger and larger. As a member of ECCO, I want to reduce this gap. Society is asking for developments and as a University, we must answer Understanding Society. I would be honored to pursue a position within this party. Hopefully I can count on your vote! 5

6 N e d e r l a n d s ( E n g l i s h b e l o w ) S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 4 S y r a h L u i j p e r s Beste studenten, Mijn naam is Syrah Luijpers, studente International Business Administration hier aan TiSEM, met een achtergrond in Hotel Management. De afgelopen jaren zijn door de overheid een aantal veranderingen door gevoerd, die gevolgen hebben voor studenten en universiteiten. De ingang van het leenstelsel maakt studeren in verhouding duurder dan en misschien zelfs minder toegankelijk dan voorheen, dat terwijl studeren juist bevorderlijk is voor de maatschappij. Studeren biedt veel meer kansen dan alleen het volgen van colleges en ik ben van mening dat al deze mogelijkheden behouden moeten worden voor huidige en toekomstige studenten. De mogelijkheid jezelf te ontwikkelen zou niet zomaar gelimiteerd mogen worden. Graag zou ik alle studenten van TiSEM vertegenwoordigen in de faculteitsraad door middel van een positie in Student Party ECCO om er voor zorgen dat er rekening gehouden wordt met onze belangen! 7 E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 4 S y r a h L u i j p e r s Dear fellow students, My name is Syrah Luijpers, currently an International Business Administration student here at TiSEM, with a background in Hospitality. During the past few years, changes from the government have affected both students and universities. Financial changes have made studying more expensive than before, despite education being beneficial to society as a whole. Going to University offers so much more than just following lectures, and it is my opinion that these opportunities should be preserved for current and future students. The possibility to develop yourself should not be limited by changes from the government. I would like to represent all students of TiSEM in the Faculty Council by means of a spot in Student Party ECCO to ensure that Tilburg School of Economics and Management takes us, the students, into account! Verder ben ik actief bij TSR Vidar en keep ik op zondag wedstrijden bij TSHV SHOT. Ik hoop dit jaar lid te worden van de fractie van ECCO om TiSEM en haar processen verder te verbeteren. Ik heb mezelf ten doel gesteld de zichtbaarheid van de Faculteitsraad te verbeteren. Hierdoor hoop ik de studenten een beter beeld te geven van de besluitvorming, en daarmee een betere kans te creëren om hun mening en ideeën over te brengen. Voor mij bestaat e en groot deel hiervan uit het actief contact houden met jullie, om jullie input te kunnen verzamelen en zo effectief mogelijk over te brengen in de Raad. Julie ideeën zullen bij mij niet verloren gaan! 8

9 E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 5 B a s V e l d h u i z e n My name is Bas Veldhuizen, 20 years old and I am a third-years student Econometrics and Operations Research. Furthermore, I am an active member of TSR Vidar and play goalie at TSHV SHOT. This year, I hope to join ECCO and further improve TiSEM and its workings. Most specifically, I aim to increase the visibility of the Faculty Council. With this, I aspire to give students a more complete image of the decision-making within TiSEM, and by this way give them a better opportunity to convey their opinions and ideas. For me, a large part of my aim is to actively stay in touch with you, to collect your input and implement this as effectively as possible in the Faculty Council. Your ideas will not go to waste with me! 9

Ik ben, zoals jullie, een enthousiaste student die het maximale uit zijn studie wil halen hier op Tilburg University. Ik ben een van de jongere studenten op de universiteit wat betekend dat ik bekend ben met veel dingen waar studenten in de eerste jaren van hun studie tegen aan lopen zoals het gewend raken aan de universiteitsprocedures inzake toetsing en het omgaan met de studielast. Ik heb mij aangemeld voor ECCO omdat ik een belangrijke rol wil spelen in de representativiteit van de studenten om het niveau van de universiteit hoog te houden. Horen van medestudenten waar zij problemen ondervinden op hun studie maar vooral het zien van verbeterpunten hie r op de universiteit en me actief inzetten om deze door samenwerking te verbeteren maken een sterk fractielid. 11 E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 6 R o w a n A r t s Dear fellow students, My name is Rowan Arts, 19 years old and first year student of the Bachelor International Business Administration. I am, like you, an enthusiastic student who wants to gain the maximum experience of being a student at Tilburg University. I am one of the younger students here at Tilburg University which means I am familiar with the university procedures regarding communication with international students and possible difficult aspects of the curriculum. I applied for ECCO because I intend to fulfill a representative role for all students to increase the quality of studying here in Tilburg. Hearing from fellow students where they find complications but especially seeing points of issue here at university and actively working towards progression with ECCO is wha t makes a strong fraction member. 12 N e d e r l a n d s ( E n g l i s h b e l o w ) S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 7 L o e s v a n P o p p e l Beste medestudenten, Ik heet Loes van Poppel, 19 jaar, op dit moment eerstejaars student International Business Administration en naast mijn studie ben ik actief bij T.S.R. Vidar. Ik ben een van de eerste studenten die het leenstelsel meemaakt, wat ervoor zorgt dat we meer druk voelen om snel af te studeren. Toch geloof ik dat studenten nog steeds de mogelijkheid moeten krijgen om actief te worden bij bijvoorbeeld een studie of studentenvereniging naast hun opleiding. Vooral aangezien het talloze kansen biedt om jezelf te ontwikkelen. Ik ben lid van de studenten adviesraad van IBA. Daarin heb ik al relevante ervaring opgedaan om namens mijn medestudenten standpunten en zienswijzen naar voren te brengen. Het lijkt me geweldig om dit ook binnen ECCO in de faculteitsraad te kunnen doen. Ik hoop daarom om volgend jaar bij ECCO als student maatschappelijk betrokken te zijn en daarbij te pleiten voor onze gezamenlijke doelstellingen als TiSEM student. 12

13 E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 7 L o e s v a n P o p p e l Dear fellow students, My name is Loes van Poppel, I am 19 years old and currently a first year International Business Administration student. Besides my studies I am an active member of T.S.R. Vidar. I am one of the first students to experience the new loan system which causes increasing pressure in order to graduate faster. However, I believe that students should still be able to become active at a study or student association besides their education. Mainly because it offers endless opportunities to develop yourself. Since I am part of the sounding board of IBA, I have gained relevant experience in representing my fellow students by convincing others of our aims and points of view. Furthermore, I am very passionate about representing you in the faculty council. By joining ECCO, I hope to be socially involved as a student of TiSEM and to strive for our best interest in order to realize our common goals. 13

14 N e d e r l a n d s ( E n g l i s h b e l o w ) S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 8 J a n n e k e S m e e s Mijn naam is Janneke Smees, op dit moment studeer ik in het derde jaar van de bachelor IBA en volgend jaar hoop ik te starten met een master Strategic Management aan Tilburg University. Ik ben een leergierig en nieuwsgierig persoon met een open visie die geïnteresseerd is in kwesties waarbij ikzelf, maar ook (toekomstige) studenten betrokken zijn. Ook ben ik een goede luisteraar en daarom hoop ik iedere student te kunnen horen en een stem te kunnen geven want ik geloof dat er altijd ruimte is voor verbetering, zowel op persoonlijk als op organisatorisch vlak. E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 8 J a n n e k e S m e e s My name is Janneke Smees, I m currently studying in my third year of the bachelor IBA and next year I will be starting a master in Strategic Management at Tilburg University. I am an inquisitive and curious person with an open minded vision who finds it interesting to be involved in issues that directly concerns both yourself and (future) colleague students. Also I am a good listener and therefore hope to be able to speak up and give all students a voice because I truly believe there is always room for improvement, personally as well as institutionally. 15 S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 9 H e r s c h v a r d h a n R a n j a l k a r Hallo allemaal! Momenteel ben ik kandidaat voor de faculteitsraad van TiSEM. Als de enige internationale kandidaat voor de raad is het mijn doel om als raadslid de internationale studenten van TiSEM te kunnen vertegenwoordigen. Aangezien ik in 11 verschillende steden heb gewoond, in verschillende landen, denk ik de culturele achtergrond te hebben om de internationale studentengemeenschap goed te vertegenwoordigen. Ik wil dit bereiken door een beter communicatiekanaal tussen studenten en de faculteitsraad op zetten, om zo te garanderen dat studenten beter op de hoogte zijn van de agendaonderwerpen van de raad. Als ik verkozen word, zal ik ook een voorstel indienen om de methode van roostering van colleges op TiSEM te revalueren. Vanwege mijn ervaring als lid van de medezeggenschapsraad van mijn vorige onderwijsinstelling, ben ik ervan overtuigd de nodige vaardigheden te hebben om een goede kandidaat te zijn en een echt verschil te kunnen maken in het komende jaar! 15

16 E n g l i s h S t u d e n t P a r t y E C C O 9 H e r s c h v a r d h a n R a n j a l k a r Hello everyone! I am currently running for a seat of faculty council of TiSEM. As the only international candidate running for the council, my main aim as a council member would be to represent the international students of TiSEM. Having lived in 11 different cities so far, in various countries, I feel that I have the cultural know ledge and understanding to truly represent the international student community. I plan to do this by setting up a better communication channel between the students and the faculty council, ensuring that students are aware of the agendas of the faculty council. If elected I would also put forward a proposal to revaluate the method of scheduling classes for courses in the TiSEM. Having already been a council member in my previous education institution, I feel that I have the required skills to be a great candidate and make a real difference in the coming year! 16
