We zijn deze week gestart met de Kinderboekenweek met als thema Raar maar waar. De start vond afgelopen dinsdag plaats tijdens de assembly die in het teken stond van de Raar maar waar show. Kinderen uit verschillende groepen lieten verschillende interessante proefjes zien en er was ook een quiz waarin vragen werden gesteld over allerlei vreemde zaken waarbij de leerlingen moesten raden of de vraag die werd gesteld waar of raar was. Afgelopen dinsdag bezocht de bekende Singaporese schrijfster Adeline Foo de HSL. Zij schrijft voor kinderen van groep 1 tot en met het begin van de middelbare school. De kinderen van alle groepen hebben vol enthousiasme naar haar geluisterd. In het kader van de kinderboekenweek zijn er de komende week nog tal van activiteiten georganiseerd, zoals een tekenwedstrijd (voorkant van een boek) voor de groepen 3 en 4 en een voorleeswedstrijd voor de kinderen van de groepen 5 t/m 8. Ook wordt er tijdens de kinderboekenweek gestemd

2 voor de Kinderjury. Volgende week donderdag sluiten we de kinderboekenweek af in de assembly. Tijdens deze assembly worden o.a de winnaars bekend gemaakt van de voorleeswedstrijd en gaan we met z n allen zingen en dansen op het nummer Raar maar waar van Kinderen voor Kinderen. Als school zijn we al enige tijd bezig om onze marketingstrategie van de HSL verder te bepalen en uit te werken. Daarvoor willen we graag een commissie in het leven roepen. Indien u ervaring op dit gebied heeft en belangstelling om daarin een steentje bij te dragen verzoeken wij u contact op te nemen met ondergetekende via directiehsl@hollandseschool.org Op woensdag 27 april vieren we op de HSL Koningsdag. De dag wordt gestart met een gezamenlijke assembly waar ook de Ambassadeur van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden te Singapore, Zijne excellentie Mr. Jacques Werner en zijn vrouw aanwezig zullen zijn. De Ambassadeur opent traditiegetrouw de Koningsdag op de HSL en hij zal zoals ook in voorafgaande jaren een traktatie aan alle kinderen aanbieden. Verderop in deze nieuwsbrief is meer informatie over Koningsdag te lezen. Ieder jaar worden op 4 mei in Nederland de oorlogsslachtoffers herdacht. Er worden door de Koning en de Koningin kransen bij het Nationaal Monument op de Dam in Amsterdam gelegd. Ook in andere landen waar Nederlandse oorlogsslachtoffers zijn begraven, worden herdenkingen gehouden. In Singapore wordt aandacht besteed aan de 4 mei herdenking op het oorlogskerkhof Kranji. Als school zijn we hier jaarlijks bij betrokken. Een paar leerlingen van groep 8 zullen gedichten voor gaan dragen. U ontvangt binnenkort via deze nieuwsbrief een uitnodiging voor het bijwonen van deze plechtigheid. Met vriendelijke groet, Meino Meines Principal HSL 2

3 From April 25th to 29th we will organize our yearly charity week. This means that the children can collect money for charity at home or at school. We will donate the money to the following charity organisations: Group 1-4: Sok Sobay Group 5-8: Hammu Panggia, Sumba Indonesie: Your child can raise money by baking cookies, wash the car, sell some toys, polish nails etc. During this week the children can bring some money to school to buy some things. On Monday 25th of April we will kick off the charity week with a Crazy hair day. The children can come to school with a crazy, creative or funny hairstyle. Parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents can sponsor the children for this special occasion! During the charity week we will organize a flea market during King s Day on the 27th of April, where children can sell and buy. All the money raised will be donated to the chosen charity organisations. The total amount will be presented during the big assembly on the 19th of May. 3

4 This year, we will celebrate King s Day on Wednesday the 27th of April. We will start with a festive assembly welcoming the Netherlands ambassador His Excellency Jacques Werner and his wife as guest-of-honour. The assembly will take place between 8:45 9:45am. Parents are most welcome to attend this assembly but are requested to stand behind the ribbons in the gym. Dutch Games After the assembly the children will play traditional Dutch games in the classrooms and in the school gym. It would be wonderful to see the children in orange or red-white-and-blue clothes at school that day. Dutch Flea Market As a part of the charity week we ll organise a traditional Dutch Flea Market in the afternoon, where children can sell homemade cookies and jewelry, old toys, 2nd hand books, face-painting, nail-painting, etc. Date: Wednesday 27th April 2016 Time: 1:00 2:00 pm (groups1 2) 1:00 2:45 pm (groups 3 8) Invited: children, parents, grandparents, friends, etc. What to bring: a blanket to sit on, items to sell (bring in box), small change (for stall holders), box to put in the earned money, money for shopping, a purse. Location: Groups 1 2 : o Mr. Dola Plein and entrance hall Groups 3, 4, 5: o PE hall (IMPORTANT): no food items can be sold in de PE hall. Group 3,4,5 sells food in the corridor group 3d/4a. Groups 6, 7, 8: o Downstairs in front of group 5, hallway in front of library and tribune Important: Children who are selling in group 1 and 2 o they need to be accompanied by a bigger sister/brother or parents. If you are a stallholder and you want to buy things from other stalls, please bring separate money (small change) for that! Do not forget to price all the items the children will sell or make sure the price is clear to all (for example all items are 50 cents ). 4

5 What to do with the money: o at the end of the afternoon the children will give their earned money to the class teacher. The committee will pick it up after school. Leftovers: Please take unsold food items back home. Other items can still be stored in your child s locker for them to sell during charity week (25th till 29th of April). School will end as per normal. 5

To order: Simply fill out your order sheet at the back of the flyer and return it to the classroom teacher no later than Friday April 22nd There are two methods of payment, cheque or credit card. Please ensure that cheques are made payable to Scholastic Education International (Singapore) Pte Ltd. The orders will be delivered within 3-4 weeks and sent home with your child. This book club is not mandatory and you have the choice to order or not to order at any time when the catalogues come out.
