2 Bij ons bent u dus aan het juiste adres voor onderzoeksvragen en onderzoeksprojecten op het gebied van productontwikkeling, innovatieve materialen en innovatieve technologie. U kunt hierbij onder andere denken aan: Innovatie in technologie Het Saxion Kenniscentrum Design en Technologie is hét centrum voor praktijkgerichte productontwikkeling en innovatie in technologie. embedded software; industrieel productontwerp; innovatieve materialen; mediatechnologie; nanotechnologie; mechatronica; lichtgewicht construeren; (slimme) textiel; veiligheid op de werkvloer. 2 3 In deze folder vindt u een zeer beknopte beschrijving van onze lectoraten en de kennis die we voor u in huis hebben. Maar zonder vertaalslag van deze kennis naar uw specifieke situatie bent u nog niet geholpen. Het is dan ook onze missie om deze kennis samen met het bedrijfsleven, dus met u, te vertalen naar concrete productontwikkeling en daarmee naar cash flow. Al onze lectoraten bestaan uit één of meerdere lectoren en een kenniskring. Samen vormen zij onderzoeksgroepen, die verbindingen leggen tussen de praktijk, praktijkgericht onderzoek en het onderwijs. Het voordeel voor u is dat de verschillende lectoraten onderling samenwerken. Zo kunnen we uw onderzoeksvraag precies op maat beantwoorden en brengen we technologie voor u tot leven. We are specialists in the field of product development, innovative materials and innovative technology. media technology; nanotechnology; safety at work; (smart) textiles. In this leaflet you will find a concise description of the knowledge that is available in our research centre. It is our mission to translate this knowledge into specific product development and (in such a way) to cash flow, together with the industry, so with you. 4 Security Safety Living Ambient Intelligence De term ambient intelligence staat voor de onzichtbare, maar overal aanwezige technologie in woon- en werkomgevingen die reageert op de aanwezigheid van personen, hun gedrag, of zelfs hun intenties. Het lectoraat richt zich op de 6 7 innovatieve toepassing van deze technologie. Daarbij ligt de focus op toepassingen die gericht zijn op het creëren van een veilige, plezierig en gezonde werkomgeving. Safety en security en de kwaliteit van leven zijn aspecten die hierbij een belangrijke rol spelen. Het onderzoek van het lectoraat richt zich op sensornetwerken, lerende omgevingen en gedragsbeïnvloeding. Ambient Intelligence Ambient Intelligence refers to the invisible but everywhere existing technology in living and working environments that respond to the presence of people, their behaviour, or even their intentions. The chair focuses on the innovative application of this technology, and puts emphasis on applications aiming to create a safe, enjoyable and healthy work environment. Safety and security and quality of life are aspects that play an important role. The research of this chair focuses on sensor networks, learning environments and influencing behaviour.

5 Draft Prototype FabMoment FabLab Enschede 8 9 Fablab Enschede is een laagdrempelige openbare voorziening, waar particulieren, onderwijsinstellingen en bedrijven hun ideeën of concepten letterlijk tastbaar kunnen maken en verder kunnen ontwikkelen. Het FabLab Enschede is onderdeel van en gevestigd in het Saxion Kenniscentrum Design en Technologie en nauw verbonden aan het hier eveneens aanwezige materialenlab. In het FabLab kan ook uw innovatieve idee gerealiseerd worden! FabLab Enschede is located in the Saxion building at the M.H. Tromplaan in Enschede. It is part of the Saxion Research Centre for Design and Technology.

6 Creativity Economy Technology Fashion Materials Design Centraal in dit lectoraat staat de rol van de consument en producent in de ontwikkeling van mode- en textieldesign als economische activiteit. Het lectoraat besteedt vooral aandacht aan high tech-ontwikkelingen op materiaalkundig gebied, met de daarbij behorende specifieke design- en marketingaanpak. Fashion Materials Design The role of consumers and producers in developing fashion and textile design as an economic activity is the central subject of the research of this chair. It focuses on real high-tech developments in the materials science field, including the corresponding specific design and marketing approach.

7 Usability Product design Industrial Design Het lectoraat Industrial Design richt zich op het innovatief productontwerpen: het vertalen van marktwensen en de mogelijkheden van de gebruiker in een maakbaar en aantrekkelijk product. De mens staat centraal bij gebruiksvriendelijk ontwerpen en het technisch mogelijke is een bron van inspiratie. Dit geldt ook voor de toepassing van innovatieve materialen en de aandacht voor duurzaamheid. Industrial Design The Industrial Design chair focuses on innovative product design: the translation from market needs and the capabilities of the user into a makable and attractive product. People are the central point in userfriendly design and the technical potential is a source of inspiration. Furthermore, the chair aims at the use of innovative materials and it pays a lot of attention to sustainability. Materials

8 Thermoplastics Composites Processing Lichtgewicht construeren (in oprichting) Saxion richt samen met het ThermoPlastic Composite Research Center (TPRC) het lectoraat Lichtgewicht construeren op om lichtgewicht composieten, in het bijzonder thermoplastische composieten, als innovatieve technologie toepasbaar te maken voor het regionale bedrijfsleven. Het lectoraat slaat hiermee een brug van fundamenteel, naar direct, praktijkgericht onderzoek. Lightweight construction (in establishment) Together with the Thermoplastic Composite Research Center (TPRC) Saxion sets up the Lightweight construction chair. This chair aims to make lightweight composites, in particular thermoplastic composites, as innovative technology usable for the regional business. In this way the chair creates a bridge between fundamental and direct, practical research.

9 Medical Robotics System thinking Mechatronica Steeds meer producten en systemen bestaan uit een combinatie van elektrotechniek, werktuigbouwkunde, meet- en regeltechniek en software. Samenvoegen van deze disciplines leidt niet automatisch tot mechatronica: daarvoor is een synergie nodig, die ontstaat door tijdens het ontwerpen actief het domeinoverschrijdend systeemdenken en doen toe te passen. Het lectoraat Mechatronica wil deze abstracte denkwijze vertalen in concrete modules en methoden, als gereedschapskist voor praktijkgerichte innovaties Mechatronics Products and systems more and more consist of a combination of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, measurement and control systems technology and software. Combining these disciplines does not automatically lead to mechatronics: this also requires a synergy that is created by applying cross-domain systems thinking during the design. The Mechatronics chair aims to translate this abstract thinking into specific modules and methods. In this way it creates a toolbox for practical innovations. 10 Mediatechnology Trends Participation Media Technology Design Het lectoraat Media Technology Design richt zich op trends in zowel nieuwe als bestaande mediatechnologie. De focus ligt hierbij vooral op die ontwikkelingen waarbij innovatieve technologie wordt ingezet om individuele personen of groepen actief te laten participeren. Hierbij beantwoordt het lectoraat steeds de vraag wat de impact van een trend is op de werking van de maatschappij, het functioneren van bedrijven, het gedrag van consumenten of de vormgeving van opleidingen. Media Technology Design The Media Technology Design chair focuses on trends in both new and existing media technology, mainly on those developments where innovative technology is used with the purpose to let individuals or groups participate actively. With all these developments the chair wants to answer the question what the impact is of a trend on the functioning of society or businesses, on consumer behaviour and on the design of education.

11 NanoPhysics- Interface NanoBio- Interface Lab-on-a-chip Nanotechnology De grote problemen waarvoor de mensheid zich gesteld ziet kunnen met nanotechnologie worden aangepakt. Hierbij valt te denken aan groene energie, het recht op zuiver water en voedsel, maar ook ziekten als kanker, Parkinson, HIV. Enschede is Nanovalley, want naast MESA+ doet nu ook Saxion volop mee Wat er nog mist? Het lectoraat Nanotechnology wil een laagdrempelig hoogstaand nanoservicecentrum realiseren; een ontmoetingsplaats waar studenten, medewerkers, onderzoekers en bedrijven samenwerken aan technologische innovaties. Nanotechnology The major problems that mankind is facing, can be solved with nanotechnology. Examples are green energy, the right to clean water and food, but also diseases such as cancer, Parkinson s, HIV. Enschede is Nano Valley, because besides MESA+ now Saxion fully participates in the nanotechnology field too. What is still missing? The Nanotechnology chair wants to realize a low-threshold nano service centre, a meeting point where students, staff, researchers and companies collaborate on technological innovations.

12 Smart Digital processing Textiles Smart Functional Materials Hoe kun je de wisselwerking tussen creativiteit, technologie en economie op het gebied van mode en textiel bevorderen? Deze vraag staat centraal in dit lectoraat. In diverse onderzoeksprogramma s komt deze wisselwerking tot uiting. Het lectoraat Smart Functional Materials richt zich op onderzoek naar hoogwaardig textiel en naar de voorwaarden voor innovaties in functionele materialen op drie terreinen: duurzaamheid, slimme textiel en digitale processen. Smart Functional Materials How can we improve the interaction between creativity, technology and economics in the field of fashion and textile? That is the central question in this chair. This interaction becomes evident in various research programs. The chair Smart Functional Materials focuses on research into high-quality textiles as well as the conditions for innovations in functional materials on three areas: sustainability, smart textiles and digital processes.
