6 Inleiding De missie van het NCvB is: Het bevorderen van de kwaliteit van preventie, (vroeg)diagnostiek, behandeling en begeleiding van beroepsziekten en arbeidsgebonden aandoeningen. Een belangrijke activiteit in het licht van deze missie is het in kaart brengen van de omvang en verspreiding van beroepsziekten in Nederland, alsmede het signaleren van trends. De gegevens die de registraties van het NCvB opleveren en de interpretatie daarvan, worden beschreven in het Signaleringsrapport Beroepsziekten. Dit rapport wordt jaarlijks opgesteld in opdracht van het Ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid. Deze gegevens kunnen een bijdrage leveren aan preventiebeleid door de overheid, sociale partners en Arbodiensten. Het NCvB participeert samen met de Kenniscentra, Medwerk en STECR (Stichting Expertisecentrum Reïntegratie) in het kennisnetwerk arbeidsrelevante aandoeningen. In het verslagjaar was het Medwerkconsortium in opbouw. Een samenwerkingsproject van het kennisnetwerk is de helpdesk voor arbeid en gezondheid. Het NCvB geeft inmiddels invulling aan de gezamenlijke frontoffice. Hiervoor is subsidie verleend door ZonMw (Zorgonderzoek Nederland-Medische wetenschappen). Introduction The mission of the NCvB is: To improve the quality in prevention, (early) diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of occupational and workrelated diseases. An important activity in light of this mission is identifying the scope and spread of occupational diseases in the Netherlands as well as highlighting trends. The data obtained from the registrations of the NCvB and their interpretation are described in the Alert Report on Occupational Diseases. This report is drawn up every year by order of the Ministry for Social Affairs & Employment. This data can contribute to a policy of prevention by the government, social partners and Occupational Health Services. Together with the Knowledge Centers, Medwerk and STECR (Expert Reintegration Studies Center), NCvB participates in the national knowledge network for work-related diseases. The Medwerk consortium was in preparation during the reporting year. The helpdesk for work and health is a collaborative project of the knowledge network. The NCvB has already given substance to the joint front office. ZonMw (Council for Medical and Health Research) granted subsidy for this. Het NCvB heeft een spilfunctie in het netwerk van deskundigen op het terrein van de klinische arbeidsgeneeskunde. Het Solvent Team project voor de diagnostiek en begeleiding van patiënten is een voorbeeld van een multidisciplinaire benadering van arbeidsgeneeskundige problematiek in een klinische setting. Het NCvB had in 2001 drie activiteitsgebieden: het Registratiebureau, het Kenniscentrum en de Klinische Arbeidsgeneeskunde. In dit verslag worden de activiteiten van het NCvB in die volgorde besproken. Het laatste hoofdstuk geeft een beschouwing en vooruitblik op de komende jaren. The NCvB plays a pivotal role in the network of experts in the area of clinical occupational medicine. The Solvent Team project for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients is an example of a multidisciplinary approach to occupational medicine in a clinical setting. The NCvB had three areas of activity in 2001: the Registration Bureau, the Knowledge Center and the Clinical Occupational Medicine Department. The NCvB s activities are addressed in this order in this report. 7 Melding en registratie Een centrale activiteit van het NCvB is de organisatie van de landelijke melding en registratie van beroepsziekten door Arbo-diensten. Het NCvB is hiertoe aangewezen door het Ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid. Doelstelling van de registratie is het verkrijgen van inzicht in het vóórkomen en de verspreiding van beroepsziekten binnen bedrijfstakken en beroepsgroepen en verschuivingen en trends hierin. Ook het genereren van signalen ( alerts ) over beroepsziekten of over knelpunten in de preventie of zorg is een belangrijke functie van het registratiesysteem. Een groep meldingen of zelfs een enkele melding kan aanleiding zijn een verdiepingsproject te starten. Verdiepingsprojecten leveren extra kennis op over een specifieke beroepsziekte. Het NCvB heeft registratierichtlijnen opgesteld als ondersteuning voor bedrijfsartsen die beroepsziekten melden. Deze registratierichtlijnen staan vermeld op de website van het NCvB. Beroepsziekten kunnen gemeld worden middels een formulier, via de website of via een meldingssysteem van de Arbo-dienst zelf. Naast het centrale registratiesysteem door Arbodiensten heeft het NCvB een aantal peilstations opgezet of is voornemens deze op te zetten. Deze registraties geven aanvullende informatie over het vóórkomen en de verspreiding van beroepsziekten en verschuivingen en trends hierin. Notification and registration One of the NCvB s main activities is the organisation of notification and registration of occupational diseases in the Netherlands by Occupational Health Services. The NCvB was appointed to do so by the Ministry for Social Affairs & Employment. The purpose of registration is to obtain insight into the occurrence and spread of occupational diseases within industrial sectors and occupational groupings, and the shifts and trends therein. Another important function of the registration system is the generation of warning signs (alerts) on occupational diseases or on bottlenecks in prevention or care. A group of notifications or even a single notification can be reason to launch an in-depth project. In depth projects provide additional knowledge on a specific occupational disease. The NCvB has drawn up registration guidelines to support the occupational physicians who notify occupational diseases. These registration guidelines can be found on the NCvB s website. Occupational diseases can be notified by means of a form, the website or through a notification system of the Occupational Health Service itself. In addition to the central registration system through Occupational Health Services, the NCvB has established or has plans to establish a number of monitoring projects. These registrations provide additional information on the occurrence and spread of occupational diseases and the shifts and trends therein. Melding en registratie Arbo-diensten Participatie Arbo-diensten De participatie van Arbo-diensten en bedrijfsartsen aan het registratieproject is nog verre van volledig. Het NCvB heeft een onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de belemmeringen voor het melden van beroepsziekten door bedrijfsartsen. De belangrijkste belemmeringen die uit dit onderzoek naar voren kwamen zijn samengevat in tabel 1. Notification and registration through Occupational Health Services Participation of Occupational Health Services The participation of Occupational Health Services and occupational physicians in the registration project is still far from complete. The NCvB has conducted research into the obstacles in the notification of occupational diseases by occupational physicians. The most important obstacles illustrated by this research are summarised in Table 1. 8 Het onderwijs voert de ranglijst aan van sectoren waarin werkgebonden psychische aandoeningen worden gemeld. De werkdruk en de emotionele belasting zijn er hoog. Infectieziekten en stemproblemen zijn andere voorbeelden van beroepsgerelateerde gezondheidsproblemen in deze sector. The education sector tops the list of sectors in which work-related psychological problems are notified. The pressure of work and the emotional stress are high in this sector. Other examples of work-related health problems are infectious diseases and voice problems. Werkdruk in het onderwijs Work-stress in education

9 Om de participatie te bevorderen heeft het NCvB een aantal activiteiten ondernomen: 1. Intensieve instructie en voorlichting aan bedrijfsartsen Er is een nieuwe brochure en registratiemap voor bedrijfsartsen gemaakt. Deze wordt uitgereikt tijdens voorlichtingsbijeenkomsten. In 2001 zijn 44 voorlichtingsbijeenkomsten georganiseerd. Ook genoemd dient te worden dat drie nascholingsmodules samen met de NSOH (Netherlands School of Occupational Health) zijn ontwikkeld en dat er een stevige verankering is in het basiscurriculum van de NSOH en de SGBO (Sociaal Geneeskundig Bedrijfsartsen opleiding) Nijmegen. 2. Intensief netwerk contactpersonen Arbo-diensten Het NCvB onderhoudt een netwerk van contactpersonen. Het NCvB heeft inmiddels via contactpersonen afspraken gemaakt met Arbo-diensten over de wijze van aanleveren van meldingen. Arbo-diensten zijn uitgebreid geïnformeerd over de introductie van het nieuwe melding- en registratiesysteem. Gestreefd wordt naar implementatie van het melden van beroepsziekten in het administratieve systeem van Arbo-diensten. 3. Regelmatig feedback over de meldingen Feedback over meldingen in algemene zin gebeurt via de Nieuwsbrief. In de Nieuwsbrief verschijnt nu meer informatie uit het registratiesysteem. Bedrijfsartsen worden benaderd middels een brief bij onduidelijke meldingen. Bij interessante cases worden bedrijfsartsen persoonlijk benaderd. Bij invoering van het nieuwe systeem wordt de terugkoppeling beter (bij elke melding een reactie). Ook wordt het voor de beroepsziektespecialisten gemakkelijker in het systeem te kijken en regelmatig te reageren naar melders. 4. Protocol melden beroepsziekten en contractclausule Het NCvB heeft een protocol voor bedrijfsartsen voor het melden van beroepsziekten opgesteld. Dit protocol kan de onzekerheden wegnemen bij de bedrijfsarts over de juridische consequenties van het melden van beroepsziekten. Tevens is een contractclausule opgesteld die Arbo-diensten kunnen opnemen in hun contracten met klanten. Upgrading meldingssysteem In 2001 is gewerkt aan de verbetering van het registratiesysteem. De aanleidingen om dit project te starten waren de toename van het aantal meldingen, de behoefte aan betere analyse- en presentatiemogelijkheden en de wens het registratiesysteem gebruikersvriendelijker, robuuster en veiliger te maken. In februari 2002 heeft het NCvB het nieuwe systeem in gebruik genomen. Bedrijfsartsen kunnen melden via het nieuwe systeem vanaf mei The NCvB has undertaken a number of activities to encourage participation: 1. Intensive instruction and information to occupational physicians A new brochure and registration folder have been drawn up for occupational physicians. These are handed out at informational meetings. In 2001, 44 informational meetings were organised. It should also be mentioned that three refresher course modules have been developed in cooperation with the NSOH (Netherlands School of Occupational Health), and that there are strong links in the basic curriculum for occupational health physicians of the NSOH and the SGBO (socio-medical professional training course) in Nijmegen. 2. Intensive network of contact persons within Occupational Health Services The NCvB maintains a network of contact persons. Through contact persons, the NCvB has already entered into agreements with the Occupational Health Services on the method of making notifications. Occupational Health Services have received extremely detailed information on the introduction of the new notification and registration system. The aim is to implement the notification of occupational diseases in the Occupational Health Services administration system. 3. Regular feedback on notifications General feedback on notifications is given in the Newsletter. The Newsletter now contains more information from the registration system. In the event of unclear notifications, occupational physicians are approached by means of a letter. In the event of interesting cases, occupational physicians are approached personally. When implementing the new system, the feedback will improve (a reaction to each notification). It will also become easier for occupational disease specialists to look into the system and regularly respond to notifiers. 4. Protocol for notifying occupational diseases and contract clause The NCvB has drawn up a protocol for occupational physicians for notification of occupational diseases. This protocol can dispel uncertainties for the occupational physician with regard to the legal consequences of notifying occupational diseases. In addition, a contract clause has been drawn up which the Occupational Health Services can include in their contracts with clients. Upgrading the notification system In 2001, work was done to improve the electronic registration system. The reasons to commence this project were the increase in the number of notifications, the need for better analysis and presentation options and the wish to Nederlands Centrum voor Beroepsziekten Jaarverslag 01 7

10 De voordelen van het nieuwe systeem zijn: Het melden zal gebruikersvriendelijker worden, vooral via de website; Bedrijfsartsen krijgen betere feedback op de melding (bij iedere melding); De verwerking en opslag van gegevens door het NCvB is sterk verbeterd; Het uitdraaien van overzichten gaat sneller en eenvoudiger; De analyse- en presentatiemogelijkheden zijn verbeterd; De veiligheid van het systeem is groter, het risico op fake-meldingen is fors verminderd. Registratiegegevens In 2001 zijn 5593 meldingen verricht door 981 artsen. Het aantal meldingen is dus iets teruggelopen vergeleken bij Tabel 2 geeft een overzicht van het aantal meldingen, het aantal meldende bedrijfsartsen en het uitvalpercentage in 1999, 2000 en Tabel 3 geeft een overzicht van de gemelde diagnosecategorieën in 1999, 2000 en Tabel 4 geeft een overzicht van het aantal gemelde beroepsziekten in de verschillende branches. Een nadere analyse en bespreking van de gegevens zal plaatsvinden in het signaleringsrapport beroepsziekten Dit rapport zal verschijnen in het najaar van 2002 en zal tevens via internet beschikbaar zijn. ArbeidsDermatosen Surveillance (ADS) In 2000 is gestart met het peilstation voor beroepsgebonden huidaandoeningen (ADS). Een geselecteerde groep dermatologen stuurt elke maand een kaart op met daarop de vermelde beroepshuidaandoeningen die zij de afgelopen maand hebben gesignaleerd. Het peilstation wordt uitgevoerd in nauwe samenwerking met het Kenniscentrum voor arbeidsrelevante huidaandoeningen Nederlands Kenniscentrum ArbeidsDermatosen- NECOD. Contact met de deelnemende dermatologen wordt onderhouden via een nieuwsbrief en een jaarlijkse bijeenkomst. Tabel 5 geeft een overzicht van de meldingen in make the registration more user-friendly, solid and safe. The NCvB put the new system into use in February Occupational physicians will be able to make notifications with the new system as from May The advantages of the new system are: Notification becomes more user friendly, particularly through the website; Occupational physicians receive better feedback on the notification (for each notification); The processing and storage of data by the NCvB has been substantially improved; Printing out summaries is quicker and easier; The analysis and presentation options have been improved; The safety of the system is enlarged; the risk of fake notifications has been reduced significantly. Registration data In 2001 there were 5593 notifications by 981 physicians. Thus, the number of notifications was slightly lower than in Table 2 gives a summary of the number of notifications, the number of notifying occupational physicians and the percentage of notifications that don t fulfil the criteria for registration in 1999, 2000 and Table 3 gives a summary of the diagnostic categories notified in 1999, 2000 and Table 4 gives a summary of the number of notified occupational diseases in the different sectors. The data will be analysed and discussed further in the 2002 Alert Report on Occupational Diseases. This report will be published in the autumn of 2002 and will also be available on the Internet. ArbeidsDermatosen Surveillance-ADS (Occupational Dermatoses Surveillance) The measurement station for occupational skin diseases (ADS) was launched in A select group of dermatologists send a card to the NCvB stating the workrelated skin diseases they have identified in the previous month. The measurement station is operated in close collaboration with NECOD, the Netherlands Expert Center for Occupational Dermatoses. Contact with the participating dermatologists is maintained by means of a newsletter and an annual meeting. 12 Peilstation Arbeidsgebonden Longaandoeningen (PAL) In analogie met het ADS is in juni 2001 het peilstation voor arbeidsgebonden longaandoeningen van start gegaan. Het peilstation wordt uitgevoerd in nauwe samenwerking met het Nederlands Kenniscentrum Arbeid en Longaandoeningen-NKAL. Ondanks een aantal aanloopproblemen is inmiddels wel een netwerk van longartsen opgezet met interesse voor arbeidsgebonden luchtwegproblematiek. Europese samenwerking Het NCvB heeft intensieve contacten met buitenlandse instituten en internationale verbanden die zich bezig houden met beroepsziekten. Het NCvB participeert het Eurostatproject European Occupational Diseases Statistics (EODS), dat tot doel heeft te komen tot betere afspraken over criteria en codering van beroepsziekten in Europese landen. Dit moet uiteindelijk beter vergelijkbare beroepsziektestatistieken opleveren. Het NCvB levert hiervoor gegevens aan. Ook participeert het NCvB in een werkgroep van het European Forum of insurances against accidents at work and occupational diseases. Deze werkgroep heeft als taak vergelijking van beleid ten aanzien van signalering en preventie van beroepsziekten tussen de verschillende Europese landen. Verdiepingsprojecten Afgerond in 2001 Secundaire analyse van het meldingsformulier beroepsziekten Dit project is uitgevoerd door een bedrijfsarts van de NSOH. Het doel van dit verdiepingsproject was meer inzicht te krijgen in de relatie tussen beroepsziekte, opsporingswijze, advisering/inlichting van personen/ instanties en de mate van causale relatie tussen aandoening en werk van de bij het NCvB gemelde beroepsziekten. De resultaten van dit onderzoek zijn beschreven in een onderzoeksverslag. Een artikel in een nationaal tijdschrift is in voorbereiding. Lopende projecten 2001 Kwaliteit van meldingen van psychische beroepsziekten Dit project wordt uitgevoerd door bedrijfsartsen in opleiding aan de NSOH. Melders van meer dan tien psychische beroepsaandoeningen worden geïnterviewd. Doelstelling is te komen tot verbetering van de criteria voor de registratie van psychische beroepsziekten. Dit project wordt in 2002 afgerond (coördinatie: B. Sorgdrager). Measurement Station for Work-related Lung Diseases Analogous to the ADS, the measurement station for workrelated lung diseases was launched in June The measurement station is operated in close collaboration with the Knowledge Center for Work-related Lung Diseases (NKAL). In spite of a few initial problems, a network of lung specialists with an interest in work-related respiratory problems has been established. European cooperation The NCvB has intensive contacts with foreign institutions and international associations involved with occupational diseases. The NCvB participates in the Eurostat project European Occupational Diseases Statistics (EODS), which aims to realise better agreements with regard to criteria and coding of occupational diseases in European countries. This should ultimately result in occupational disease statistics which can be compared more easily. The NCvB provides data for this. The NCvB also participates in a working group of the European Forum of insurances against accidents at work and occupational diseases. The task of this working group is to compare differences in policy with regard to identification and prevention of occupational diseases between the different European countries. In-depth projects Completed in 2001 Secondary analysis of the notification form for occupational diseases This project was carried out by an occupational physician of the NSOH. The purpose of this in-depth project was to gain more insight into the relationship between occupational disease, method of detecting, advising/informing of persons/institutions and the extent of the causal relationship between disease and work of the occupational diseases notified to the NCvB. The results of this study were described in a research report. An article for a national magazine is being prepared. Current projects 2001 Quality of notifications of psychological occupational diseases This project is being carried out by occupational physicians in training at the NSOH. Notifiers of more than ten psychological occupational diseases are interviewed. The aim is to arrive at the formulation of improved criteria for the registration of psychological occupational diseases. This project will be completed in 2002 (coordination: B. Sorgdrager). Follow-up notifications of work-related asthma This project is being carried out by occupational physicians in training at the NSOH. The aim is to gain insight into the course of work-related asthma and the interventions by Occupational Health Services. To this end, a follow-up study of the notifications of work-related asthma to the NCvB is being conducted. The project will be completed in 2002 (coordination: T.M. Pal). Screening CAT-bestanden aangeboren afwijkingen op beroep ouders Bestaande bestanden van aangeboren afwijkingen worden gescreend op informatie over het beroep van de ouders. Doelstelling is te inventariseren of een analyse van bestaande bestanden nieuwe kennis op kan leveren over de relatie tussen beroepsmatige exposities en het optreden van aangeboren afwijkingen. Screening of CAT files of congenital defects by parents occupations Existing files of congenital defects are screened for information on the parents occupations. The aim is to determine whether an analysis of existing files can provide new knowledge on the relationship between occupational exposure and the occurrence of congenital defects. The project will be completed in 2002 (coordination and realisation: T. Brand). Inventarisatie bestaande registraties voor infectieziekten op informatie over relatie met werk Bestaande bestanden voor infectieziekten worden gescreend op informatie over de relatie met werk. Doelstelling is te inventariseren of een analyse van bestaande bestanden nieuwe kennis op kan leveren over de werkgerelateerdheid van infectieziekten. Case file study of asbestos victims This project was established in collaboration with the Instituut Asbestslachtoffers (Asbestos Victims Institute) and will be carried out by occupational physicians in training at the NSOH. The aim is to identify more accurately the exposure history of mesothelioma victims. This is done by means of a case file study. The project will commence in 2002 (coordination: G. van der Laan). Quality of referrals to the Solvent Team This project will be carried out by occupational physicians in training at the NSOH. The quality of referrals to the Solvent Team will be analysed. This purpose should lead to the drawing up of quality criteria for referrals by occupational physicians. The project will commence in 2002 (coordination: G. van der Laan). The aim is to identify obstacles to the notification of occupational diseases in the operating procedure of the Occupational Health Services and to suggest solutions for removing these obstacles. 16 Kenniscentrum voor beroepsziekten Het NCvB stelt zich ten doel kennis over beroepsziekten toegankelijk te maken voor de doelgroepen en het genereren van signalen over beroepsziekten. Doelgroepen zijn Arbo-diensten, de curatieve zorg, overheid, werkgevers- en werknemersorganisaties, patiëntenorganisaties en andere relevante maatschappelijke partijen. Verschillende kanalen worden gebruikt om kennis over te dragen: de website geeft informatie over beroepsziekten en over de activiteiten van het NCvB; via de helpdesk kunnen vragen gesteld worden over beroepsziekten; het NCvB verzorgt voorlichting en nascholing; tweemaal per jaar wordt de Heijermanslezing gehouden; jaarlijks verschijnt het Signaleringsrapport Beroepsziekten; elk kwartaal geeft het NCvB een Nieuwsbrief uit; het NCvB publiceert in diverse vaktijdschriften. De vier kenniscentra voor arbeidsrelevante aandoeningen en STECR en de regionale Medwerkcentra zijn belangrijke samenwerkingspartners van het NCvB. Het NCvB participeert in de stuurgroep van de kenniscentra. Met een aantal kenniscentra voert het NCvB gezamenlijke projecten uit. Helpdesk Het NCvB heeft een helpdesk voor o.a. bedrijfsartsen, huisartsen, specialisten, arboprofessionals en beleidsmedewerkers. Het doel van de helpdesk is het ondersteunen van deze professionals bij diagnostiek, behandeling en preventie van beroepsziekten. Vragen aan de helpdesk kunnen gesteld worden via de telefoon ( ) of via De binnengekomen vragen worden gearchiveerd. Op deze wijze krijgt het NCvB een indruk van de kennisbehoefte op het gebied van beroepsziekten in het professionele veld. Knowledge center for occupational diseases The aim of the NCvB is to make knowledge on occupational diseases accessible to the target groups and to give early warnings on occupational diseases. The target groups are the Occupational Health Services, curative healthcare, the government, employers and employees organisations, patient support organisations and other relevant social parties. Several channels are used to make this knowledge available: the website provides information on occupational; diseases and on the NCvB s activities; via de helpdesk, questions can be asked on occupational diseases; the NCvB provides information and refresher courses; the Heijermans Lecture is given twice a year; the Alert Report on Occupational Diseases is published every year; the NCvB publishes a Newsletter each quarter; the NCvB publishes in various specialist journals. The four knowledge centers for work-related diseases and STECR and the regional Medwerk centers are important collaborative partners of the NCvB. The NCvB participates in the steering committee of the knowledge centers. The NCvB carries out joint projects with a number of knowledge centers. Helpdesk The NCvB has a helpdesk for occupational physicians, general practitioners, specialists, occupational health professionals, policy workers and others. The purpose of the helpdesk is to support these professionals in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of occupational diseases. The helpdesk is available to answer questions by telephone ( ) or through (ncvb@amc.uva.nl). The questions received are filed. This way the NCvB gains an impression of the need for knowledge in the area of occupational diseases in the professional field. In 2001 zijn 480 vragen geregistreerd bij het NCvB. Stress en klachten van het bewegingsapparaat doen zich vaak voor in deze sector. Ook huidklachten door veelvuldig contact van de handen met water en voedingsmiddelen zijn een bekend probleem in deze sector. The workload in the hotel & catering industry is often high with long and irregular working days. Stress and musculoskeletal problems often occur in this sector. Skin problems caused by the hands being in frequent contact with water and foodstuffs are another well-known problem in this sector.

19 Website De website is een communicatiemiddel voor het NCvB dat steeds belangrijker wordt. Bedrijfsartsen kunnen beroepsziekten melden via de website. De registratiecriteria zijn vermeld op de website en relevante publicaties zoals jaarverslagen en het signaleringsrapport worden integraal op de website geplaatst. Het NCvB heeft een redactieraad ingesteld voor het inhoudelijk onderhoud van de website. Website The website is a communication tool that is becoming increasingly important for the NCvB. Occupational physicians can notify occupational diseases through the site. The registration criteria are listed on the website and relevant publications such as annual reports and the alert report are integrally placed on the website. The NCvB has appointed an editorial board which is responsible for maintaining the content of the website. In het verslagjaar is de website van het NCvB ca keer bezocht. Met name het Signaleringsrapport Beroepsziekten en het Saltsa-rapport (met richtlijnen voor de vaststelling van RSI) zijn frequent gedownload. Signaleringsrapport Beroepsziekten 01 In opdracht van het Ministerie van Sociale Zaken wordt jaarlijks een trendrapport opgesteld over beroepsziekten. Het Signaleringsrapport Beroepsziekten 2001 besteedt speciaal aandacht aan zogenaamde nieuwe beroepsziekten. Een aantal nieuwe beroepsziekten zijn vermeld in het kader op deze pagina. During the reporting year, the NCvB s website was visited approximately 10,000 times. In particular the Alert Report on Occupational Diseases and the SALTSA Report (with guidelines for diagnosing RSI) were downloaded frequently. Alert Report on Occupational Diseases 01 On the instructions of the Ministry for Social Affairs & Employment, the NCvB draws up an annual report on the trends in occupational diseases. The 2001 Alert Report on Occupational Diseases pays special attention to new occupational diseases. A number of new occupational diseases are listed in the box on this page. EEN AANTAL NIEUWE BEROEPSZIEKTEN UIT HET SIGNALERINGSRAPPORT BEROEPSZIEKTEN 2001 A NUMBER OF NEW OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES FROM THE 2001 ALERT REPORT ON OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES De toename van beeldschermwerk en mobiele telefonie leidt tot bezorgdheid over de risico s van blootstelling aan elektromagnetische straling. Epidemiologische studies bevestigen die risico s niet. Een recente publicatie over een mogelijk verband tussen mobiel bellen en uveaal melanoom (tumor in het oog) zaait echter nieuwe twijfel. The increase in computer work and mobile telephony is leading to concern about the risks of exposure to electromagnetic radiation. Epidemiological studies do not confirm these risks. However, a recent publication on a possible link between the use of mobile telephones and uveal melanoma (tumour in the eye) is prompting new doubts. Recent onderzoek heeft uitgewezen dat vrouwen die vaak in nachtdienst werken 50% meer kans hebben op het krijgen van borstkanker. Het werken in ploegendienst verhoogt de kans op hart- en vaatziekten met 40%. De oorsprong van chronische ziekten bij volwassenen kan liggen in het feit dat hun ouders ooit zijn blootgesteld aan schadelijke stoffen. Over beroepsmatige blootstelling zijn echter nauwelijks onderzoeksgegevens beschikbaar. In een onderzoek werd een relatie gevonden tussen blootstelling aan haarbewerkingsvloeistoffen bij kapsters en een minder goede neuropsychologische ontwikkeling van hun kinderen. Recent studies have shown that women who frequently work night shifts have a 50% higher chance of developing breast cancer. Work at night increases the chance of cardiovascular diseases by 40%. Chronic diseases in adults can be the result of their parents having been exposed to dangerous materials at some time. However, there is hardly any research data available on occupational exposure. A study has shown a relationship between exposure of hairdressers to hair processing fluids and a decline in the neuropsychological development of their children. 20 Participatie in het Kennisnetwerk Het NCvB participeert samen met de Kenniscentra, Medwerk en STECR in het kennisnetwerk arbeidsrelevante aandoeningen. In het verslagjaar was het Medwerk-consortium in opbouw. Een samenwerkingsproject van het kennisnetwerk is de helpdesk voor arbeid en gezondheid. Het NCvB geeft inmiddels sinds 1 april 2002 invulling aan de gezamenlijke frontoffice. Hiervoor is subsidie verleend door ZonMw. Internationale contacten Het NCvB onderhoudt contacten met diverse buitenlandse instituten en internationale organisaties. Een aantal van deze contacten en internationale projecten zijn reeds benoemd onder het hoofdstuk Melding & Registratie. Het NCvB is actief in verschillende werkgroepen van het International Commitee for Occupational Health (ICOH). Het NCvB neemt deel aan het project Global Burden of Disease van de WHO als een van de Collaborative Centers on Occupational Health van de WHO. Participation in the Knowledge Network Together with the Knowledge Centers, Medwerk and STECR, NCvB participates in a the knowledge network for work-related diseases. The Medwerk consortium was in preparation during the reporting year. The helpdesk for work and health is a collaborative project of the knowledge network. Since 1 April 2002, the NCvB has already given substance to the joint front office. ZonMw granted subsidy for this. International contacts The NCvB maintains contacts with several foreign institutions and international organisations. Some of these contacts and international projects have already been mentioned in the section Notification & Registration. The NCvB is actively involved in several working parties of the International Committee for Occupational Health (ICOH).
