2 Manual abstract: materials can be salvaged from an old appliance via scrap reprocessing. Note: to ensure safety when disposing of an old washing machine disconnect the mains plug from the socket, cut the mains power cable and destroy this together with the plug. To prevent children shutting themselves in the machine break the door hinges or the door lock Eng.qxd 07/10/ :22 Page 4 General delivery notes Please check that the following items are delivered with the appliance: Instruction manual Guarantee card Blanking plug Inlet hoses & bracket Base panel & x2 push clips Check that no damage has occurred to the machine during transit. If it has, call the GIAS Service, Hoover Service or an authorised Hoover dealer. Please see Customer Service. Safety notes Note: before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance of the washing machine. A) Disconnect the plug from the mains supply. B) Turn off the water supply. C) Ensure that the mains power supply is earthed, if not, seek assistance from a qualified electrician. D) Do not touch the appliance when hands or feet are wet or damp. Do not use the appliance with bare feet. E) The use of adapters, multiple connectors and/or extensions is not recommended. F) Caution: water temperature can reach 90 C during the whites wash cycle and as a result the door glass may get very hot. G) Check there is no water visible in the drum before opening the door. H) Do not allow children or unauthorised persons to use the appliance without supervision. I) Do not pull the power cable or the appliance itself to remove the plug from the socket. J) The appliance must not be exposed to weather conditions (rain, direct sun, etc...) Eng.qxd 07/10/ :22 Page 5 K) When moving the appliance never lift it by the controls, the detergent drawer, the hoses or the power cable. To avoid damaging the door when moving the appliance never rest the door against objects e.g a trolley. L) IMPORTANT! If the appliance is installed on a carpeted floor ensure that the ventilation through the base of the appliance is not obstructed. M) When lifting the machine always use two people to help avoid injuries. N) If the appliance is not running properly or breaks down, switch it off, disconnect the plug from the socket, turn off the water supply and do not tamper with the appliance. Consult Hoover Service or GIAS Service for possible repair. Failure to comply with the above can compromise the safety of the appliance. O) If the appliance's power cable is damaged it must be replaced by a special cord which is only available from GIAS Service, Hoover Service or an authorised Hoover dealer. P) After the machine has been installed, ensure that the mains plug and water supply valves are easily accessible. Q) Glass fibre curtains should never be put into this machine. R) Lint or fluff must not be allowed to collect on the floor around the outside of this machine. S) Always ensure that the door locked indicator neon has switched itself off before opening the door. By doing so the machine is allowed to cool down before the laundry is handled. T) Always ensure to fit the base panel to the machine. Quick start Washing Open the door by pressing the "Deur Open" button. Select the laundry and put it in the machine. Close the door. Put the detergent in the dispenser compartments. Select programme by turning the programme knob. Select any function buttons required and then press the START/PAUZE button. The button functions are selected when the button neon is lit. After washing Wait about two minutes for the door locking device to disengage. The "Deur Beveiligd" neon will go out. Switch off the washing machine by turning the programme knob to the "OFF" position. Open the door and remove the laundry Eng. qxd 07/10/ :22 Page 6 Installation & testing Remove the machine from the packaging - close to where it will finally be positioned - and proceed as follows: On the back of the machine 1) Remove the central screw A and side screws B and pull out the transit bracket C along with the red locator. 2) Tilt the machine forward and remove the polystyrene spacers. 3) Cover the central hole using the cap enclosed in the instructions bag. 4) Adjust the two feet at the front to level the machine. 5) Tilt the machine forward and locate the base panel by (1) removing the paper backing from the adhesive tape, (2) locate the base panel in the front of the machine, (3) offer the base panel up to the base of the washing machine and locate the two push clips Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 7 Note: we recommend you keep the transit bracket and screws to protect the machine for future transit. The Manufacturers will not be responsible for any damage to the machine caused by not following the instructions relating to releasing the transit protection. The user is responsible for all installation costs. Connecting the fill hose This machine has an inlet hose with a 19mm (3/4") threaded ferrule fitted to the end to attach between the threaded connector on the appliance and the water supply. Only use the new hose supplied to connect the machine and ensure that the sealing washer is in place inside the hose connector. Do not re-use old hoses which are attached to existing installations. Do not over-tighten the connection. Hand tight is sufficient. Do not trap or kink the hose. 1. Connect the elbow end of the hose to the back of the machine. 2. Connect the straight end of the hose to the stop taps. Acqua-stop (fitted to certain models) The fill hose supplied with this machine has a double skin and incorporates a water valve (A). If the inner hose bursts the valve will automatically shut off the water supply to prevent flooding. The indicator turns red (B). Should this happen, turn off the water supply immediately and have a new fill hose fitted by Hoover Service. 7 A B Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 8 If the inlet hose's connection point is changed, check that the 3/4" threaded ferrule on the inlet hose is firmly attached to the electrovalve connector. Water supply requirements Connect the machine to the drainage system used by household sinks. THIS MACHINE MUST BE CONNECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WATER SUPPLY REGULATIONS. No other appliance should be plumbed into the standpipe. There are two possible arrangements which can be seen below:- HOSE SUPPORT CROOK FIX SECURELY ABOVE OVERFLOW OUTLET OF SINK HOSE SUPPORT CROOK DRAIN HOSE cm 32 mm min DRAIN HOSE cm ATTACH HOSE SECURELY TO WASTE OUTLET For the washing machine to function properly the outlet end of the drain hose must be at a minimum of 60 cm and a maximum of 80 cm from the ground Eng. qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 9 Testing the installation Refer to the programme guide for details of how to select programmes.

3 1. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks from fill hoses. 2. Switch on the electricity supply. 3. Select a spin programme and then press the START/PAUZE button to start the machine. Allow the programme to continue for one minute and then cancel the programme (please refer to "Description of Controls" section for cancelling the programme). This will remove any water remaining in the machine from factory testing. 4. To check for cold water filling to the machine: Select a rinse programme and press the START/PAUZE button to start the machine. Allow the tumble action to continue until the water has pumped out. Check that the drain outlet is not leaking or overflowing. 5. Switch off the machine at the end of the cycle by turning the programme knob to the "OFF" position. 6. If the machine takes longer than one minute to empty check the drain hoses for kinks. Installation testing is now complete Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 10 To ensure the drum is thoroughly clean after testing and storage, select programme 1 and run the machine for a complete cycle using only wash detergent and water. If the machine is not to be used immediately, switch off the mains power supply and remove the plug from the power socket. We also recommend that the water stop taps are turned off. Note: it is advisable to isolate the washing machine from the water and electricity supplies after each wash. Electricity supply and safety advice Washing machines are supplied to operate at a voltage of 230V, 50 Hz singlephase. Check that the conductor is powerful enough to supply at least 3. 0 kw, then connect the plug to an earthed socket. Electricity can be extremely dangerous. This washing machine must be earthed. The socket outlet and the plug on the appliance must be of the same type. It is not advisable to use multiple adapters and/or extension leads. The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following codes: Blue NEUTRAL Brown LIVE Green and Yellow EARTH If the mains cord on this appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by a special cord which is only obtainable from the Hoover spares service, GIAS Service or an authorised Hoover dealer Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 11 Useful washing advice Tips on using your appliance in the most environmentally-friendly and economical way. Loading your washing machine To make further reductions of energy, water and detergent consumption, we recommend that you put a full load into your machine. Energy savings of up to 50% can be achieved by washing one full load compared to two half loads. When is prewashing really needed? Only with particularly dirty loads! Energy savings of 5 to 15% are made by not selecting the prewash option for less dirty laundry. Which wash temperature should you choose? Using stain removers before machine washing reduces the need to wash at temperatures over 60 C. Energy savings of up to 50% can be made by using a 40 C wash temperature. Heavily soiled laundry To ensure the best performance when washing a particularly dirty load, we recommend that you reduce the amount of items to be put into the machine. If the drum is not crammed full, the items will circulate more freely and will wash cleaner. Ariel was able to meet our needs: to make the washing machine function efficiently, not compromise the machine's lifespan and produce the best wash results. Consistently excellent results, which was the main aim of the test we carried out, determined our choice and our recommendation. The prime function of a detergent that answers all washing requirements is to work with the water to remove dirt from fabrics, holding it in suspension until it is removed when the water is pumped out, and to control the amount of foam forming in the washing machine, without damaging the fibres of the items being washed. Ariel fully satisfies all these requirements, as it contains high quality elements, the result of the most advanced research, ensuring excellent results under all conditionclude with a low speed spin for approximately 15 seconds. Finally, the programme carries out a brief tumbling action to "loosen" the items in the load. Spin Speed Selector (Centrifugeren) By adjusting the control knob it is possible to reduce the maximum speed of your selected programme to suit your needs and help reduce creasing of fabrics. Turn the spin speed selector knob until the indicator aligns with the required spin. PROGRAMME Selector Note: do not press the START/PAUZE button before selecting the programme. If this does happen, cancel the programme (that you have accidentally selected) by pressing the Start/Pauze button for five seconds (see "Programme cancelled" description). The tables in the washing section describe the various programmes and illustrate the number or symbol to select for them. Note: this model is fitted with an electronic "sensor" device that checks the load is balanced correctly. If the load is slightly unbalanced the machine will re-balance it automatically to then carry out the normal spin. If, after several attempts, balance is not restored a reduced spin speed will be used. If loads are seriously unbalanced the spin stage will be cancelled. This helps limit vibration, reduce noise and improve the washing machine's reliability and life Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 14 "CHRONOVISION" System In order to better manage your time, this washing machine features an indicator light system that keeps you constantly informed on the remaining cycle time. Detergent drawer h was Pre-wder po er ion dit on c ic br Fa Main w as powde h r The detergent draw is split into 3 compartments: the first, labelled "I", is for detergent utilised during Prewash. the second, labelled "II", is for detergent utilised during the main wash. Note: some forms of detergents are difficult to dispense from the drawer e.g. concentrated powders. For these, we suggest you use the recommended dispenser which is placed inside the drum. This ensures that the liquid detergent is dispersed in the drum only when needed. the third, labelled " " is for special additives, fabric softeners, fragrances, starch, brighteners etc. The machine is programmed to automatically take up additives during the final rinse stage for all wash cycles.

4 Note: only put special additives, fabric softeners, fragrances, starch, brighteners, etc, in the third compartment Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 15 Detergents, washing aids and amounts to use Choice of detergent General purpose detergents Powder detergents, for a thorough wash, with bleaching agents, are particularly suitable for use in hot wash programmes (60 C and over), for heavily soiled and stained laundry. Liquid detergents, are particularly suitable for grease stains, such as greasy skin marks, cosmetics and oil. These detergents are not suitable for washing stained laundry, as they do not contain bleach. Biological detergents, not all the products available give a really thorough wash. Special detergents Detergents for coloureds and delicates, without added bleach, also often without any optical brightening agents, to preserve the colour. Detergents for a thorough wash, without added bleach or enzymes, particularly suitable for handling woollen fibres. Detergents for curtains with optical brightening agents, resistant to light, to prevent yellowing from sunlight. Special detergents for programmed use of chemical substances, depending on fabric type, degree of soiling and water hardness. Here basic detergents, softeners, bleaches/stain removers can be added separately. Additional laundry aids Water softener, means less detergent can be used where water hardness is classed as hard to very hard. Prewash substances, for the programmed treatment of stains prior to the main wash. Using them means the subsequent wash can be at a low temperature or with bleach-free detergents. Fabric softener, prevents static build-up in synthetic fabrics and softens fabrics. If you own a tumble dryer, clothes are softened even without the use of a fabric softener. Do not put solvents in the washing machine! Keep detergents and other laundry products out of children's reach Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 16 Before pouring in the detergent check that there are no foreign bodies in the detergent drawer. Dosage details are usually shown on the detergent packaging. Follow those instructions! Dosages Only use detergents which are suitable for use in a washing machine. You will obtain the best results from your wash with the minimum use of chemical products and the best care for your laundry if you take into consideration the degree of soiling as well as the type of detergent to choose. The amount of detergent to use depends on: - water hardness, depending on the hardness of the water and the type of detergent used, it is possible to reduce the amount of detergent. The softer the water supply, the less detergent is required. - the degree of soiling, it is possible to reduce the amount of detergent used depending on the degree of soiling. Use less detergent for less soiled items. - amount of laundry, it is possible to reduce the amount of detergent when washing only a small amount of laundry. For smaller loads use less detergent. The amounts shown on pack for detergents for washing delicates often already refer to a reduced wash size. Follow the dosage instructions! Dosage for powder detergent For normal and low concentration detergents: for normally soiled laundry choose a programme without prewash. Put the detergent in compartment II of the drawer. For heavily soiled laundry, choose a programme with prewash. Put 1/4 of the detergent in compartment I, 3/4 in compartment II of the drawer. When using water softeners, first put in the detergent, then add the softener to compartment II. For highly concentrated detergents not in single dose format, follow exactly what is shown on pack with regards to type and amount of dosage. To avoid the difficulty of checking if the detergent has been taken up, use the dosage aids provided in the detergent packaging. Liquid detergent dosage Liquid detergents may be used in accordance with the instructions on the relevant packaging, for all programmes without prewash, by using the recommended dispenser which is placed in the drum Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 17 Programme selector The washing machine has different programme groups according to type of wash, temperature, spin speeds and duration for handling the various types of fabric and their level of soiling (see wash programme guide). 1. COTTONS (KATOEN) The programmes are designed for maximum washing and rinsing. With spin cycles in between, they guarantee the laundry is rinsed perfectly. The final spin cycle ensures laundry is spun dry as much as possible up to the maximum speed. 2. SYNTHETICS and mixed fabrics (SYNTHETISCH) Washing and rinsing performance is optimised through drum rotation speeds and water levels. The delicate action spin minimises creasing. 3. DELICATES (DELICAAT) This is a new concept in washing, with a cycle that comprises of alternate periods of activity and pauses, particularly suitable for washing very delicate fabrics, such as Pure New Wool. Wash and rinsing are carried out using a high water level to provide the best results. 4. SPECIAL PROGRAMMES i) "Speciaal AA" PROGRAMME at 40 C This special programme has been studied to allow you to obtain the best washing performance, even at full load, as the 60 C Cotton programme (the normative cycle), but with the double advantage of: - washing cotton and mixed in the same cycle - energy saving due to 40 C temperature, instead of 60 C. ii) "Snelwas 44'-29'" FAST PROGRAMMES By maintaining exceptional washing performance, these programmes allow you to know in advance the necessary time for your everyday laundry. In fact, this washing machine is equipped with two daily rapid programmes at 40 C, that were just studied for: - lightly soiled fabrics; - medium or little load Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 18 - "Snelwas" 40 C - 29' A complete washing cycle (wash, rinse and spin), able to wash in approximately 29 minutes: a maximum load of 2 kgs; lightly soiled fabrics (cotton and mixed fabrics). We recommend, with this programme, a 20% detergent loading dose (compared to the normal one), in order to avoid detergent waste. "Snelwas" 40 C - 44' A complete washing cycle (wash, rinse and spin), able to wash in approximately 44 minutes: a maximum load of 3.5 kgs; lightly soiled fabrics (cotton and mixed fabrics). We recommend, with this programme, a 30% detergent loading dose (compared to the normal one), in order to avoid detergent waste. - iii) "Handwas" This washing machine also has a gentle Handwash programme cycle. This programme allows a complete washing cycle for garments specified as `Hand Wash only' on the fabric label. The programme has a maximum temperature of 30 and concludes with 2 rinses, one for fabric conditioner, and a slow spin. iv) "Sport" The washing machine has a unique "Sport" programme.

5 It is specially designed to wash mixed sportswear fabrics that cannot be washed on hotter programmes and is designed to remove the soiled and staining created by participation in sports activities. This programme starts with a cold prewash that breaks down and loosens any excess dirt and then washes at a cool 30 C, rinses twice (one is for fabric conditioner) and spins slowly for the best care of your heavily soiled, delicate garments. Hoover has given sports items their own wash care programme Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 19 Main wash Auto half load The washing machine is fitted with a self adjusting water level system. This system enables the machine to use the optimum amount of water needed to wash and rinse the laundry in relation to the particular load. This results in a reduction of the water and electricity used without in any way compromising the washing and rinsing performance. In fact, the amount of water and electricity used will always be appropriate for the clothes load. The washing machine automatically ensures excellent washing results at minimum cost whilst respecting the environment. Sorting the laundry It is recommended you wash only items which are washable with water and detergent and not dry-clean items. If you need to wash rugs, bedspreads or other heavy items, it is best not to spin them. Sort the laundry according to fabric type, degree of soiling and wash temperature: follow the labelling on the garments. Examples: Laundry for hot wash Coloured, easy-care materials Delicates and wool Items labelled with the following symbols are not suitable for machine washing: Wash by hand Dry clean For very delicate items, such as net curtains, underwear, tights etc., you are advised to use a laundry net or wash bag Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 20 Woollen items must be labelled with the "Pure New Wool" symbol if they are to be washed in the machine, and must also be labelled "non-matting" or "machine washable". Please check the laundry item for the label. Colour often leaks from new coloured items. This can then colour other lighter items being washed. We therefore recommend that coloured items should be washed for the first time separately. For future washes, non colourfast items can only be washed with white laundry up to 40 C. Do not wash Note: when sorting laundry check there are no metal objects in the laundry (such as paper clips, safety pins, pins, coins etc...); In the event of a machine failure during the warranty period and foreign objects are found to be the cause of the failure a labour charge may be made for the call out of an engineer. button up pillowcases, fasten zips, hook & eye fasteners, belts and long dressing gown cords; remove curtain hooks; pay close attention to the labels on items; if you notice stubborn stains whilst sorting the laundry, remove them using a special detergent or a special stain remover. We do not recommend washing a full load of just towelling items as they absorb a lot of water and may become too heavy for the drum Eng. qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 21 The correct way to wash Preparing the laundry A) Select and sort the laundry according to the wash care labels found on each garment. Always check the care labels. Loading the laundry B) Open the door. C) Put the laundry in the washing machine. Close the door again, ensuring that no items of laundry are obstructing the lock or door seal. Putting detergent in machine D) Open the drawer, choose the detergent and put in the correct amount, according to the manufacturer's instructions and the detergent advice section within this manual. Add any other laundry aids (see page 15). Close the drawer again. The programme is selected by turning the programme selector clockwise and aligning the programme number with the indicator. Check that the tap is turned on and that the discharge hose is positioned correctly. Press the START/PAUZE button. The "Deur Beveiligd" indicator illuminates and the programme will begin. When the programme has finished Wait for the "Deur Beveiligd" to be released (about 2 minutes after the programme has finished). Switch off the machine by turning the programme dial to the "OFF" position, and open the door by pressing the "Deur" button. Remove the laundry. 6 5 kg. By doing so the laundry is allowed to circulate more freely. Energy label data based on programme 3 tested in accordance with EN Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 24 Cleaning and routine maintenance Do not use alcohol-based scourers and /or thinners on the outside of your washing machine, just a wipe with a damp cloth will suffice. The washing machine needs very little maintenance: Cleaning the drawer compartments. Cleaning the filter. Cleaning the door glass. Cleaning the drawer Clean the compartments occasionally to remove detergents and additives. A) To do this you just need to pull the drawer out firmly from the machine, but without forcing it. B) Clean the compartments and the syphon cap under running water. C) Replace the drawer. Cleaning the filter The washing machine is fitted with a special filter to prevent items such as coins, buttons, etc. blocking the discharge hose. These may be retrieved by: 1. Removing the kickplate by gently pulling it from the bottom in an outwards and upwards direction. 2. Use the kickplate to collect the water still in the filter. 3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw holding the filter, turn the filter anticlockwise until it stops, remove it and clean it. After cleaning it, reassemble following the above instructions in reverse order. Replace the kickplate. We recommend that the filter be cleaned frequently, at least once a month Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 25 Cleaning the door glass Regularly clean the door glass with a damp cloth. A build up of soiling and residues from the water may result in water leaking from the door. Do not use abrasive cleaners as they can scratch the surface. Transporting or storing the appliance for long periods when appliance is not in use If the appliance is being transported or is out of use for long periods in unheated places, all remaining water must be completely removed from all hoses. Ensure mains power plug is disconnected, then unclip the discharge hose and lower it into a basin on the floor until all the water has emptied out. When transporting the appliance refit the transit bracket, central screw and side screws Eng. qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 26 Trouble shooting What might be the cause of... Defects you can remedy yourself Before calling Service for technical advice please run through the following checklist. A charge will be made if the machine is found to be working or has been installed incorrectly or used incorrectly. If the problem persists after completing the recommended checks, please call Service, they may be able to assist you over the telephone. PROBLEM 1. This is due to the latest technology that achieves the same standard of washing and rinsing but with far less water consumption. Note: The use of environmentally-friendly, phosphate-free detergents (check detergent information on pack) can have the following effects: waste water from rinsing may be cloudier because of the presence of a white powder (zeolites) held in suspension, without the rinse performance being adversely affected; presence of white powder on laundry after washing, which is not absorbed by the fabric and does not alter the colour of the fabric. The presence of foam in the final rinsing water is not necessarily an indication of poor rinsing. Carrying out more rinse cycles does not serve any purpose in such cases Eng.qxd 07/10/ :23 Page 28 Power failure If there is a power failure the wash cycle will be interrupted, the wash programme and functions will be suspended. When the power is restored, the wash programme and functions will re-start from the same point and complete the programme. The load can be removed from the machine during a power failure as follows: The water can be drained from the machine by: 1. Switch off the machine both via the programme knob and on the mains power supply. Remove the plug from the mains power supply socket. 2. Carefully move the machine so the rear of the machine is accessible. Please follow the safety precautions which we recommend under the `safety notes' section of this manual. 3. Unclip the drain hose from the rear panel of the machine and lower the hose into a bowl on the floor. Important: the water may be very hot! When the bowl is full raise the end of the drain pipe to a height higher than the top of the appliance to stop the flow of water. Empty and replace the bowl and continue draining the machine until empty. 4. Once the machine is fully drained of water, clip the hose to the rear of the machine. Press the "Deur" button and remove the load. The door can be opened approximately 2 minutes after the power failure by simply pressing the door open button. Do not force open the door. Important: the water and the load may be very hot! Is dit het geval, bel dan de GIAS Service, Hoover Service of een erkende Hoover dealer. Zie het hoofdstuk Klantendienst. Veiligheidsmaatregelen Opmerking: voordat u de machine schoonmaakt of een onderhoudsbeurt geeft: A) De stekker uit het stopcontact halen. B) De watertoevoer afsluiten. C) Zorg ervoor dat de stroomtoevoer geaard is. Zo niet, raadpleeg een erkende elektricien. D) De machine niet met natte of vochtige handen of voeten aanraken. De machine niet gebruiken wanneer u op blote voeten loopt. E) U wordt niet aangeraden om adapters, meerdere contacten en/of verlengsnoeren te gebruiken. F) Waarschuwing: tijdens het witte wasprogramma kan de watertemperatuur 90 C bereiken en bijgevolg kan de glazen deur erg heet worden. G) Zorg ervoor dat er geen water in de trommel zichtbaar is, voordat u de deur steekwagentje. L) Hoover of GIAS Service over een mogelijke Was nooit gordijnen van glasvezel in deze kan de machine afkoelen voordat u de was eruit Sorteer uw wasgoed en stop het in de machine. Sluit de deur. Giet het wasmiddel in de vakjes van de Kies de gewenste functieknoppen en druk op de lampje "Deur Beveiligd" gebruiker is verantwoordelijk voor alle oude slangen die op bestaande installaties aangesloten zijn niet opnieuw. Als de binnenslang barst, sluit de klep automatisch de watertoevoer af om een overstroming te voorkomen. Het lichtje wordt rood (B). Mocht dit gebeuren, draai dan onmiddellijk de watertoevoer dicht en laat GIAS Service een nieuwe vulslang monteren. 36 A B Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 37 Als het verbindingspunt van de vulslang is veranderd, controleer of de getapte beslagring van 19 mm van de vulslang goed aan de elektroklepconnector vast zit. Watertoevoer De machine wordt aangesloten op het afvoersysteem dat voor het aanrecht wordt gebruikt. DE AANSLUITING VAN DEZE MACHINE MOET VOLDOEN AAN DE WATERREGULERINGEN. Er mag geen ander toestel op de standbuis aangesloten worden. Draai de waterkraan open en controleer of de vulslangen lekken. 2. Zet de stroomtoevoer aan. 3. Kies een centrifugeerprogramma en druk vervolgens op de START/PAUZEtoets om de machine te starten. Laat het programma een minuut lang draaien en annuleer het vervolgens (hoe u een programma annuleert, vindt u in de beschrijving van de toetsen).

8 Hierdoor wordt al het water dat in de machine was gebleven na de fabriekstesten verwijderd. 4. Controleren of de machine koud water opneemt: Kies een spoelprogramma en druk op de START/PAUZE-knop om de machine te starten. Laat de trommel ronddraaien tot het water uit de trommel is gepompt. Controleer of de afvoeruitlaat lekt of overstroomt. 5. Zet de machine aan het eind van de cyclus uit door de programmaknop op uit te zetten. 6. Als de machine er langer dan één minuut over doet om te legen, controleer dan of er slagen in de afvoerslangen zitten. De machine is nu getest Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 39 Om de trommel na de test en de opslag goed schoon te maken, kiest u programma 1 en laat u de machine de hele cyclus doorlopen, alleen met zeep en water. Als u de machine niet onmiddellijk gebruikt, zet u de machine uit, en haalt u de stekker uit het stopcontact. Wij raden u ook aan de waterkranen dicht te draaien. Opmerking: het is aanbevolen de wasmachine na elke wasbeurt af te koppelen van de water- en stroomvoorziening. Elektriciteitsvoorziening en veiligheidsadvies Wasmachines functioneren bij een spanning van V V, 50 Hz eenfasig. Controleer of de conductor krachtig genoeg is om minstens 3,0 kw te leveren en steek de stekker daarna in een geaard stopcontact. Elektriciteit kan erg gevaarlijk zijn. Deze wasmachine moet geaard zijn. Het stopcontact en de stekker van de machine moeten van hetzelfde soort zijn. Wij raden u aan geen multi-adapters en/of verlengsnoeren te gebruiken. De draden in het netsnoer hebben de volgende kleurcode: Blauw NEUTRAAL Bruin FASE Groen-en-geel AARDING Als het netsnoer van het toestel beschadigd is, dan moet het vervangen worden door een speciaal snoer dat alleen bij Gias Nederland of bij een erkende Hoover dealer verkrijgbaar is Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 40 Handige wasadviezen Advies over hoe u uw machine op de meest milieuvriendelijke en kosteneffectieve manier kunt gebruiken. Uw wasmachine laden Wij raden u aan om een volle lading was in uw machine te stoppen om het energie-, water- en zeepgebruik te reduceren. U kunt wel 50% energie besparen als u één volle lading wast in plaats van twee halve. Wanneer is voorwassen echt noodzakelijk? Alleen bij een erg vuile was! U kunt 5 tot 15% energie besparen door minder vuile was niet voor te wassen. Welke wastemperatuur moet u kiezen? Als u vlekoplossers gebruikt, hoeft u uw was niet op meer dan 60 C te wassen. U kunt wel 50% energie besparen door op 40 C te wassen. Zeer vuile was Om een zo goed mogelijk resultaat te bereiken bij het wassen van zeer vuile lading, wordt u aanbevolen om de hoeveelheid was die u in de machine stopt te reduceren. Als de trommel niet volgepropt is, kan de was beter ronddraaien en krijgt u een schoner resultaat. ARIEL Gekozen en aanbevolen door Hoover Wanneer wij een nieuwe wasmachine produceren, worden er alle mogelijke tests op uitgevoerd. En één van de belangrijkste tests is de test die onze deskundigen in staat stelt om het beste wasmiddel voor uw wasproblemen te vinden. Ariel voldeed aan onze eisen: de wasmachine op een efficiënte manier laten functioneren, de levensduur van de machine niet nadelig beïnvloeden en de beste wasresultaten leveren. Consistente uitstekende resultaten. Dat is het doel van de test die wij uitvoeren. En daarop is onze keus en onze aanbeveling gebaseerd. De voornaamste functie van een wasmiddel dat aan alle wasvereisten voldoet, is dat het met het water samenwerkt om het vuil uit de stof te verwijderen, dit vuil in het water vasthoudt totdat het vuil wordt verwijderd wanneer het water uit de machine wordt gepompt en de hoeveelheid schuim in de wasmachine beperkt, zonder dat de vezels worden beschadigd. Ariel voldoet in ruime mate aan al deze vereisten, aangezien het van goede grondstoffen gemaakt is. Ariel is het resultaat van een uiterst geavanceerd onderzoek, met een uitstekend wasresultaat onder alle omstandigheden als gevolg Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 41 Beschrijving Van De Bedieningstoetsen Hieronder vindt u de bedieningstoetsen die op het toetsenpaneel van uw toestel staan. De functie is geactiveerd wanneer het lichtje brandt. Lees de beschrijvingen hieronder goed door: START/PAUZE START Kies een programma en druk vervolgens op de START/PAUZE-toets om de machine te starten. Het "Deur Beveiligd"-lampje licht op. Het programma begint niet onmiddellijk maar pas na de machine de wasparameters voor het geselecteerde programma heeft ingesteld. Het "START" lampje in de "CHRONOVISION" indicator licht op. Als het programma dat u selecteerde minder dan 60 minuten duurt, zal het indicatorlampje de overblijvende tijd al naargelang tonen. PAUZE U kunt het programma op elk moment pauzeren door de Start/Pauze-knop ca. 2 seconden lang ingedrukt te houden. Wanneer de machine in de pauzestand staat, knipperen de resterende tijd van het programma in de "CHRONOVISION" indicator en de functietoetsen. Om het programma opnieuw te starten, drukt u nogmaals op de Start/Pauze-toets. ANNULEREN Om het programma te annuleren, moet u de Start/Pauze-toets gedurende vijf seconden induwen. Om aan te duiden dat het programma geannuleerd is, licht het "STOP" lampje in de "CHRONOVISION" indicator op. `Deur'-toets: Een speciaal veiligheidssysteem zorgt er voor dat de deur niet onmiddellijk na afloop van de cyclus geopend kan worden. Het Deur Beveiligd-lichtje brandt wanneer de deur goed is gesloten. Wacht 2 minuten nadat de wascyclus is afgerond en tot het "Deur Beveiligd"-lampje gedoofd is vooraleer u de deur opent. Controleer altijd nog even of er geen water in de trommel te zien is. `Extra Spoelen'-knop Met deze optie wordt in de spoelfase meer water toegevoegd. Hiermee kunnen voor mensen met een uiterst gevoelige huid, huidirritaties als gevolg van zeepresten voorkomen worden. Aanbevolen wordt om de `Extra Spoelen'-knop ook te gebruiken bij een erg vuile was waar veel zeep voor nodig was, of als er badstof werd gewassen, omdat hier veel zeep in blijft hangen. `Tijdbesparing'-knop Deze optie kan worden gebruikt bij katoen en synthetische programma's. Door deze optie te selecteren, kunt u de wastijd met maximaal 50 minuten verkorten, afhankelijk van het geselecteerde programma, de temperatuur en de waslading, zonder aan waskwaliteit in te boeten Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 42 `Energiebesparing'-knop Deze optie kan worden gebruikt bij alle programma's. Door deze optie te selecteren, beperkt u de wastemperatuur tot de temperatuur van het water dat wordt toegevoegd. Dit is vooral aan te raden bij licht vuile was en u kunt er 80% energie mee besparen vergeleken met de normatieve 60%. Snel Strijken-knop Deze optie is beschikbaar bij de katoen-, synthetische was-, fijne was en handwasprogramma's.

9 Wanneer deze optie geselecteerd wordt bij een katoen-, wol- en handwasprogramma, stopt de machine in de laatste spoelfase en wordt de lading in het water in de trommel gehouden. Hierdoor kreukt de was minder en wordt strijken gemakkelijker. Om met de wascyclus door te gaan, moet u op de `Snel Strijken'-knop drukken, waarna het programma opnieuw van start gaat. Wanneer de optie geselecteerd wordt voor synthetische was, wordt het programma beëindigd met een korte centrifugecyclus op zeer lage snelheid. De was kan op deze manier in de trommel blijven zitten, zonder dat de was te veel kreukt. Als de was gecentrifugeerd moet worden, moet u de geschikte centrifugesnelheid kiezen (zie programmagids). Wanneer de optie geselecteerd wordt bij programma's voor fijne was, stopt de machine in de laatste spoelfase en wordt de lading in het water in de trommel gehouden. Hierdoor kreukt de was minder en wordt strijken gemakkelijker. Druk op de "Snel Strijken" toets om het programma verder af te werken. De machine pompt dan het resterende water weg en het programma eindigt met een centrifugefase op zeer lage snelheid van ongeveer 15 seconden.ten laatste schudt het programma kort de trommel om de lading "los" te schudden. Centrifugesnelheid-knop Door deze knop in te stellen, kunt u de maximale snelheid van het door u gekozen programma verminderen om aan uw vereisten te voldoen en het kreuken van de stoffen te verminderen. Draai aan de centrifugesnelheidtoets tot het streepje op de gewenste centrifugesnelheid staat. Programmakeuzetoets Opmerking: Druk niet op de START/PAUZE-knop voordat u een programma heeft gekozen. Als u per ongeluk een programma heeft gestart en u wilt het annuleren, dan houdt u de Start/Pauze-toets gedurende vijf seconden ingedrukt (Zie de beschrijving over het annuleren van programma's). De tabellen in het hoofdstuk over wassen beschrijven de verschillende programma's en tonen het nummer of symbool dat u moet selecteren. Opmerking: dit model heeft een elektronische sensor die voelt of de lading goed uitgebalanceerd is. Als de lading enigszins onevenwichtig is, zal de machine de was automatisch balanceren en dan normaal centrifugeren. Als er, na een aantal keren proberen geen evenwicht wordt bereikt, wordt een lagere centrifugesnelheid gebruikt. Als de lading erg onevenwichtig is, wordt de centrifugefase geannuleerd. Dit vermindert de trillingen, het lawaai en vergroot de betrouwbaarheid en de levensduur van de wasmachine Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 43 "CHRONOVISION" Systeem Om u te helpen uw tijd beter te beheren, bevat deze wasmachine een indicatorlampsysteem dat u voortdurend op de hoogte houdt over de resterende cyclustijd. Indicatorlampje Start: Resterende tijd langer dan 60 minuten Indicatorlampje 60: Resterende tijd korter dan 60 minuten Indicatorlampje 30: Resterende tijd korter dan 30 minuten Indicatorlampje 15: Resterende tijd korter dan 15 minuten Indicatorlampje Stop: Einde van het programma. Opmerking: sommige wasmiddelen zijn niet geschikt voor de zeeplade, bijv. geconcentreerde zeeppoeders. Voor deze middelen raden wij u aan om het aanbevolen zeepbakje te gebruiken dat in de trommel wordt geplaatst. Hierdoor komt de vloeibare zeep alleen in de trommel wanneer het nodig is. het derde, met een is voor alle andere middelen, wasverzachters, parfum, stijfsel, glansmiddelen, enz. De machine is geprogrammeerd om automatisch de extra middelen tijdens de laatste spoeling van alle wasprogramma's te gebruiken. Opmerking: stop alleen speciale middelen, wasverzachters, parfums, stijfsel, glansmiddel, enz. in het derde vakje Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 44 Waspoeders, washulpmiddelen & hoeveelheden Soorten wasmiddelen Wasmiddelen voor algemeen gebruik Waspoeder, voor een goede was, met bleekmiddel, is uitstekend geschikt voor hete wasprogramma's (60 C of hoger), voor een erg vuile was met vlekken. Vloeibare wasmiddelen zijn vooral geschikt voor vetvlekken, zoals zweetvlekken,cosmetica en olie. Deze wasmiddelen zijn niet geschikt voor het schoonwassen van was met vlekken, aangezien ze geen bleekmiddel bevatten. Biologische wasmiddelen, niet alle beschikbare producten zorgen een goed wasresultaat. Speciale wasmiddelen Wasmiddelen voor bonte en fijne was, zonder toegevoegde bleekmiddelen, ook vaak zonder optische glansmiddelen, om de kleur te bewaren. Wasmiddelen voor een grondige wasbeurt, zonder toegevoegde bleekmiddelen of enzymen, vooral geschikt voor de reiniging van wollen vezels. Wasmiddelen voor gordijnen met optische glansmiddelen, lichtbestendig, om vergeling door zonlicht te voorkomen. Speciale wasmiddelen voor het geprogrammeerde gebruik van chemische stoffen, afhankelijk van de soort stof, de hoeveelheid vuil en de waterhardheid. Hier kunnen wasmiddelen, wasverzachters, bleekmiddelen en vlekoplossers apart toegevoegd worden. Washulpmiddelen Wasverzachter, betekent dat er minder wasmiddel gebruikt hoeft te worden als de waterhardheid hard of zeer hard is. Voorwasmiddelen, voor de geprogrammeerde behandeling van vlekken voorafgaand aan de hoofdwas. Als u voorwasmiddelen gebruikt, dan kan de hoofdwas op een lagere temperatuur worden ingesteld en kunnen er ook bleekmiddelvrije wasmiddelen gebruikt worden. Waterverzachter, voorkomt statische elektriciteit bij synthetische stoffen en verzacht de vezels. Als u een droger heeft, dan wordt de was verzacht, zelfs zonder wasverzachters te gebruiken. Geen oplosmiddelen in de wasmachine stoppen! Houd wasmiddelen en andere wasproducten buiten het bereik van kinderen Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 45 Voordat u de zeep in de zeeplade doet, controleer of er zich geen voorwerpen in de zeeplade bevinden. De hoeveelheid zeep die nodig is staat gewoonlijk op de wasmiddelverpakking. Volg die aanwijzingen goed op! Hoeveelheid Alleen wasmiddelen gebruiken die geschikt zijn voor gebruik in wasmachines. U verkrijgt het beste resultaat voor uw was als u zo min mogelijk chemische producten gebruikt.u verzorgt uw was het beste als u rekening houdt met de vuilheid én het juiste wasmiddel kiest. De hoeveelheid wasmiddel hangt af van: - de waterhardheid, afhankelijk van de hardheid van het water en het soort wasmiddel dat wordt gebruikt, kunt u de hoeveelheid wasmiddel reduceren. Hoe zachter het water, des te minder wasmiddel heeft u nodig. - hoe vuil de was is, u kunt de hoeveelheid wasmiddel reduceren als de was minder vuil is. 10 Powered by TCPDF ( Voor een kleinere lading is minder wasmiddel nodig. De hoeveelheden die op de verpakking staan van wasmiddelen voor fijne was, zijn meestal al op een kleinere lading gebaseerd. Volg die aanwijzingen goed op! De hoeveelheid zeeppoeder Voor normale wasmiddelen en wasmiddelen met lage concentratie: voor een normaal bevuilde was kiest u een programma zonder voorwas. Doe het wasmiddel in vak II van de zeeplade. Voor een zwaar bevuilde was kiest u een programma met voorwas. Doe 1/4 van het wasmiddel in vak I, 3/4 in vak II van de zeeplade. Wanneer u wasverzachters gebruikt, doet u eerst het wasmiddel en daarna de verzachter in vak II. Voor uiterst geconcentreerde wasmiddelen die geen tabletvorm hebben, moet u precies volgen wat er op de verpakking staat over de soort en de hoeveelheid zeep die u moet gebruiken. Om gemakkelijker te controleren hoeveel wasmiddel u neemt, raden wij u aan de schepjes te gebruiken die met het wasmiddel worden geleverd. De hoeveelheid vloeibare zeep Vloeibare zeep kan volgens de aanwijzingen van de verpakking gebruikt worden voor alle programma's zonder voorwas, door het aanbevolen zeepbakje te gebruiken dat in de trommel wordt geplaatst Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 46 Programmaselector De wasmachine heeft verschillende programmagroepen, op basis van de soort was, de temperatuur, de centrifugesnelheid en -lengte voor de behandeling van verschillende soorten materiaal en de hoeveelheid vuil (zie de wasprogrammagids). 1. KATOEN De programma's zijn gericht op maximale was- en spoelkracht. Dankzij de tussentijdse centrifugecycli, is de was gegarandeerd perfect gespoeld. De laatste centrifugecyclus op de maximale centrifugesnelheid zorgt ervoor dat de was zo droog mogelijk wordt. 2. SYNTHETISCHE WAS en gemengde vezels De was- en spoelprestatie wordt geoptimaliseerd door middel van verschillende trommelrotatiesnelheden en waterniveaus. Door voorzichtig te centrifugeren, beperkt u het kreuken. 3. FIJNE WAS (DELICAAT) Dit is een nieuw wasconcept, met een cyclus die bestaat uit elkaar opvolgende periodes van activiteit en pauzes, vooral geschikt voor het wassen van uiterst fijne stoffen, zoals Pure Nieuwe Wol. Wassen en spoelen gebeuren met hoge waterniveaus voor het beste wasresultaat. 4. SPECIALE PROGRAMMA'S i) "Speciaal AA" PROGRAMMA op 40 C Dit speciale programma werd ontworpen om u het beste wasresultaat te bieden, zelfs met een volle lading, zoals het katoenprogramma op 60 C (de normatieve cyclus) maar met het dubbel voordeel van: - katoen en gemengde vezels in dezelfde cyclus te wassen - energiebesparing dankzij de temperatuur van 40 C in plaats van 60 C. ii) "Snelwas 44' - 29'" SNELLE PROGRAMMA'S Door een uitzonderlijke wasprestatie te behouden, maken deze programma's het u mogelijk op voorhand te weten hoeveel tijd u nodig heeft voor uw dagelijkse wasbeurten. Deze was machine is in feite uitgerust met twee dagelijkse snelle programma's op 40 C, die speciaal werden ontworpen voor: - licht vuile was; - gemiddelde of kleine lading Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 47 - "Snelwas" 40 C - 29' Een volledige wascyclus (wassen, spoelen en centrifugeren), in ongeveer 29 minuten: een maximale lading van 2 kg; licht vuile was (katoen en gemengde vezels). Wij raden u aan met dit programma 20% van de gewone wasmiddelhoeveelheid te gebruiken om de verspilling van wasmiddel te vermijden. "Snelwas" 40 C - 44' Een volledige wascyclus (wassen, spoelen en centrifugeren), in ongeveer 44 minuten: een maximale lading van 3,5 kg; licht vuile was (katoen en gemengde vezels). Wij raden u aan met dit programma 30% van de gewone wasmiddelhoeveelheid te gebruiken om de verspilling van wasmiddel te vermijden. - iii) Handwas Deze wasmachine heeft ook een voorzichtig handwasprogramma. Dit programma biedt een volledige wascyclus voor kledingstukken die volgens de wasinstructies alleen met de hand gewassen mogen worden. Het programma heeft een maximumtemperatuur van 30 C en eindigt met 2 spoelbeurten, één voor de wasverzachter en een langzame centrifugecyclus. iv) "Sport" Deze wasmachine heeft een uniek "Sport"-programma. Het is speciaal voor een lading met gemengde sportkleding ontworpen die niet bij hogere temperaturen gewassen kan worden en is gericht op het verwijderen van het vuil en de vlekken die door de deelname aan sportactiviteiten worden veroorzaakt. Dit programma begint met een koude voorwas die al het extra vuil afbreekt en losweekt, en wast de lading daarna op een koele temperatuur van 30 C, gevolgd voor twee spoelbeurten (één is voor de wasverzachter) en een langzame centrifugecyclus voor de beste verzorging van uw vuile, fijne kleding. Dit systeem stelt de machine in staat om de optimale hoeveelheid water voor het wassen en spoelen te gebruiken afgestemd op de lading. Dit resulteert in minder water- en elektriciteitsverbruik, zonder dat aan was- of spoelprestatie wordt ingeboet. Het water- en elektriciteitsverbruik is in feite altijd aan de lading aangepast. De wasmachine zorgt automatisch voor uitstekende wasresultaten tegen de laagste kosten met respect voor het milieu. Was sorteren Aanbevolen wordt om alleen kledingstukken te wassen die met water en zeep gewassen mogen worden. Was geen kledingstukken die alleen gestoomd mogen worden. Als u kleden, spreien of andere zware materialen moet wassen, wordt u aangeraden om deze niet te centrifugeren. Sorteer de was op basis van materiaal, mate van bevuiling en wastemperatuur: volg de labels op de kledingstukken. Voorbeelden: Was voor een heet programma Gekleurde, gemakkelijk te verzorgen stoffen Fijne was en wol Artikelen met de volgende wasinstructiesymbolen zijn niet geschikt voor de wasmachine: Handwas Stomen Voor zeer fijne artikelen, zoals vitrage, ondergoed, nylons, enz, is het een goed idee om een waszakje te gebruiken. Wollen artikelen moeten een etiket met het `Zuivere Nieuwe Wol'-symbool hebben, als u ze in de machine wilt wassen, plus de aanwijzing `niet Dutch.qxd 07/10/ :19 Page 49 matterend' of `geschikt voor wasmachines'. Zoek het etiket en volg de wasinstructies. Nieuwe gekleurde artikelen kunnen vaak afgeven. Hierdoor worden de meegewassen artikelen verkleurd. Aanbevolen wordt daarom om gekleurde artikelen de eerste keer apart te wassen. Daarna kunnen de niet-kleurvaste artikelen alleen op 40 C samen met witte was gewassen worden. Niet wassen Opmerking: bij het sorteren van de was controleer of er geen metalen voorwerpen in de kleding zit (zoals paperclips, veiligheidsspelden, spelden, munten, enz); mocht de machine tijdens de garantieperiode defect raken en mocht worden bepaald dat metalen voorwerpen daar de reden voor waren, dan krijgt u een rekening voor het voorrijden van de reparateur.
