1 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 1 T j i t s R o s e l a a r Ik heb binnen Tilburg University al diverse functies bekleed, zowel bij een faculteit als bij een dienst. Momenteel ben ik hoofd van het Language Center, onderdeel van Student Services. Sinds 2012 maak ik deel uit van de Universiteitsraad als voorzitter van de personeelsfractie Onafhankelijken. Vanuit die rol zit ik eveneens in het dagelijks bestuur van de Universiteitsraad. Ik heb me opnieuw verkiesbaar gesteld omdat ik het belangrijk vind dat de medezeggenschap goed ingevuld wordt en dat de plannen van het College van Bestuur op het terrein van bestuur, begroting, organisatie en strategisch beleid kritisch gevolgd worden. Zeker in deze woelige tijden van bezuinigingen en de totstandkoming van een nieuw strategisch plan is een sterke raad van groot belang. Ik vind het belangrijk dat het personeel zowel WP als OBP meebeslist over belangrijke thema s en ik zet me graag in voor de belangen van medewerkers bij de faculteiten en bij de diensten. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 1 T j i t s R o s e l a a r I have held many different positions within Tilburg University, both in one the Schools and in one of the Services. Currently, I am the head of the Language Center, which is part of Student Services. I have been on the University Council since 2012, as chair of staff party the Independents. In this role I am also a member of the University Council s executive committee. I am running for reelection because I think that participation in the decision-making process is very important and that the Executive Board s plans regarding management, budgets, organization, and strategic policy need to be examined critically. Especially in these turbulent times of budget cuts and the implementation of a new strategic plan, a strong University Council is of the utmost importance. I feel that it is important that both scientific and supporting staff members contribute to the important d ecisions and I hope to be able to continue to look after the interests of staff members in both the Schools and the Services.

2 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 2 E l k e v a n C a s s e l Sinds 2012 vertegenwoordig ik de fractie Onafhankelijken in de Commissie Onderwijs en Onderzoek van de Universiteitsraad. In de afgelopen anderhalf jaar heb ik veel ervaring opgedaan. Ik zou die ervaring de komende jaren graag inzetten om het beleid en de besluitvorming binnen onze universiteit kritisch te volgen. Ik voel me thuis bij de kritisch coöperatieve opstelling van de Fractie Onafhankelijken, die voortkomt uit een grote betrokkenheid bij de organisatie en waarbij denken in alternatieven en oplossi ngen centraal staat. Het uitgangspunt van onze fractie is dat we het samen moeten doen. We willen nadrukkelijk zowel het wetenschappelijk als het ondersteunend personeel en zowel de faculteiten als de diensten vertegenwoordigen. Ik werk sinds 2006 bij Tilburg University. Ik heb bij twee verschillende diensten gewerkt en werk nu bij TSH. Bovendien heb ik, voordat ik beleidsmedewerker werd, ook gewerkt als onderzoeker en universitair docent gewerkt. Ik heb dus een brede blik op de organisatie. Ik hoop dat je gaat stemmen, maar vooral ook dat je ons na de verkiezingen weet te vinden. Laat je stem horen! F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 2 E l k e v a n C a s s e l I have represented the Independents on the Committee Education and Research since During the past 1.5 years, I have gathered a great deal of experience that I would like to critically follow the decisionmaking processes within our university over the next few years. I feel at home with the Independents motto critically cooperative, which stems from a great sense of involvement in the organization and in which providing alternatives and solutions takes central place. We operate on the basic assumption that if we want to achieve great things, we need to work together. We emphatically want to represent both academic and support staff in both the Schools and the Services. I have been working at Tilburg University since I have worked for two different Services and now work at the Tilburg School of Humanities. Before becoming a policy advisor, I also worked as a researcher and assistant professor. My experience in these different settings gives me a broad view of the organization. 3 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 3 H a n s H a a n s Al ruim 13 jaar ben ik werkzaam bij Tilburg University. In die 13 jaar ben ik altijd betrokken geweest bij het reilen en zeilen binnen de universiteit. Zo heb ik naast mijn hoofdtaak als docent/onderzoeker zitting genomen in de opleidingscommissie van de economische faculteit, ben ik opleidingsdirecteur geweest en ben ik nog steeds actief als lid van het college van beroep voor de examens (CBE) en de commissie van advies voor bezwaar- en beroepsschriften (CABB). Het is voor mij een logische volgende stap om me verkiesbaar te stellen voor de Universiteitsraad. De reden dat ik me verkiesbaar wil stellen voor de fractie Onafhankelijken is dat ik vind dat de universiteit een plek moet zijn waar een ieder naar tevredenheid m oet kunnen werken of studeren, niet alleen nu, maar zeker ook in de toekomst. De Universiteitsraad s telt mij in staat om mee te denken en te beslissen over de toekomst van de universiteit op velerlei gebieden, zoals de financiële gezondheid en zaken gerelateerd aan onderwijs en onderzoek. Mijn hoofddoel is om met mijn enthousiasme en doorzettingsvermogen als klankbord voor medewerkers binnen de universiteit te fungeren en zo een bijdrage te leveren aan het toekomstige beleid van de universiteit. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 3 H a n s H a a n s I have worked at Tilburg University for over 13 years. In those 13 years I have always been involved in the goings on with the university. For example, in addition to my main tasks of teaching and doing research I have been a member of the TiSEM Education Committee, I have served as Academic Director, and I am still active as a member of the Examination Appeal Board and the Advisory Committee for Objections and Notices of Appeal. For me it is a logical next step to run for the University Council. The reason I am on the list for the Independents, is that I feel that the university should be a place where everyone can work or study contentedly, not only now, but in the future as well. The University Council enables me to contribute to decisions about the future of our university in a number of areas, from financial health to matters concerning education and research. My main goal is to serve as a sounding board for staff members and to contribute, with enthusiasm and persistence, to the future policy of our university.

4 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 4 S e b a s t i a a n V e r m e u l e n Ik vind het belangrijk en interessant om verder te kijken dan alleen zaken op mijn eigen werkterrein. Een bredere blik op de organisatie geeft je vaak goede inzichten in de organisatie. Ook kun je op deze manier wisselwerking teweeg brengen tussen de mensen uit je directe werkomgeving en het niveau waar besluiten worden genomen. Na vier jaar in een turbulente periode in de dienstraad van LIS actief te zijn geweest als voorzitter weet ik dat het belangrijk is om de belangen van medewerkers te behartigen. Graag zou ik dit werk voort willen zetten namens de fractie Onafhankelijken in de Universiteitsraad. Zeker ook in de uitwerking van het Strategisch Plan behartigt de fractie Onafhankelijken de belangen van medewerkers van de faculteiten én de diensten. Hier wil ik graag mijn bijdrage aan leveren. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 4 S e b a s t i a a n V e r m e u l e n I think it s both important and interesting to look beyond your own work domain. A broader view of the organization will give you great insight into the organization. In this way it is possible to achieve interaction between people from your direct working environment and the level where decisions are made. After serving as chairman on the LIS service council in a turbulent period for four years it is clear to me that it is very important to represent the interests of employees. Now I would like to continue that work as member of the Independents on the University Council. In the implementation of the Strategic Plan the Independents will represent the interests of employees of the Schools and the Services. This is something to which I would like to contribute.

5 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 5 R e n e e d e R e u v e r In de Universiteitraad worden besluiten genomen die voor ons allemaal belangrijk zijn. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat draagvlak voor beslissing alleen tot stand komt wanneer er een grote betrokkenheid is van medewerkers van de universiteit. Ik stel me verkiesbaar omdat ik het belangrijk vind om bruggen te bouwen tussen mensen en verschillende belangen met elkaar te verbinden. Ook ben ik van mening dat we alleen een top universiteit kunnen zijn als we op alle fronten goed presteren, we rekening met elkaar houden en kritisch maar constructief met elkaar samenwerken. De Universiteitsraad heeft hierin een belangrijke taak waar ik graag een bijdrage aan wil leveren. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 5 R e n e e d e R e u v e r On the University Council decisions are made that are important for all of us. I am convinced that public support for decisions can only be attained through active involvement of university staff. I am running for election because I feel that it s important to build bridges between people and to bring different interests into agreement with one another. I also feel that in order for Tilburg University to achieve the status of top university we need to to perform exceptionally well on all fronts, and we need to work together critically, but constructively. The University Council plays an important role in achieving these goals and to this I would like to contribute.

6 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 6 G e e r t v a n K o l l e n b u r g In 2012 ben ik begonnen als promovendus bij TSB. Al snel ben ik betrokken geraakt bij de promovendiraad van de faculteit en ben ik benoemd tot vertrouwenspersoon voor TSB-promovendi. Sinds kort ben ik ook actief binnen het universiteitsbrede Tilburgs Overleg Promovendi (TOP). Als steunkandidaat van de fractie Onafhankelijken heb ik niet de ambitie zelf zitting te nemen in de Universiteitsraad, maar wil ik wel graag binnen de fractie het perspectief van promovendi vertegenwoordigen. In de Universiteitsraad zijn op dit moment geen promovendi vertegenwoordigd. De fractie Onafhankelijken vindt het belangrijk dat ook de belangen van promovendi behartigd worden. Als het om beleid gaat voelt het soms alsof je als promovendus tussen de functie van medewerker en student in valt. Ik wil graag meedenken en advies geven vanuit het oogpunt van de promovendus. Belangrijke aandachtspunten voor de komende jaren zijn: de experimenten die nu lopen met beurspromovendi, de impact van veelal driejarige financiering voor het proefschrift, het te geven onderwijs door promovendi en de rechten van externe promovendi. De Fractie Onafhankelijken is de juiste partij om op een kritische en opbouwende manier het universitair beleid te evalueren en daarbij rekening te houden met de belangen van promovendi. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 6 G e e r t v a n K o l l e n b u r g In 2012 I started as PhD candidate with TSB. I soon became involved in the School s PhD Council and was appointed confidential advisor for TSB PhD candidates. Recently I also became involved in the university-wide PhD Council (TOP). As a supporting candidate for the Independents, I don t have the ambition to become a member of the University Council myself, but I will represent the perspective of PhD candidates within the party. Currently, there are no PhD candidates on the University Council. The Independents feel that it is important to promote the interests of PhD candidates. When it comes to university policy, PhDs often feel that they fall between the categories of staff and students. I would like to provide the Independents with input from the perspective of PhD candidates. Important topics for the next few years are: the current experiments of the Dutch government with scholarship PhDs, the impact of three-year financing for a PhD track, the time taken up by teaching responsibilities, and the rights of external PhDs. The Independents is the right party to evaluate university policy in a critically constructive way, while paying attention to the interests of PhD candidates.

7 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 7 S o f i a R a n c h o r d á s Sinds 2009 woon ik in Nederland en sinds 2010 ben ik werkzaam bij TLS, eerst als AIO en sinds januari 2014 als universitair docent. Net als andere internationale medewerkers van deze universiteit, zie ik mezelf niet als een expat die voor een tijdelijk verblijf naar Nederland is gekomen, maar als een medewerker die probeert te integreren in de Nederlandse werksfeer en cultuur. Dit is dagelijks een uitdaging en vereist steun en begrip van collega s, management en beleidsmakers. Daarom ben ik kandidaat voor de fractie Onafhankelijken. Wij willen ons hard maken voor de belangen van internationale medewerkers, voor integratie en voor gelijke kansen voor deze groep. Een afgewogen taalbeleid speelt hierbij een belangrijke rol en tweetaligheid moet daarbij centraal staan. Daar zet ik me in voor. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 7 S o f i a R a n c h o r d á s I have lived in the Netherlands since 2009 and have worked at the Tilburg Law School since I started as a PhD-researcher and was recently appointed Assistant Professor. Just like many other international employees, I do not see myself as an expat who came to the Netherlands for a short period, but rather as an employee who tries to integrate and adapt herself to the Dutch workplace and culture. This can be a daily challenge that requires the support and understanding of colleagues, management, and policymakers. That is why I am a candidate for the Independents. We are committed to promoting the interests of international employees, for integration, and for equal opportunities. A well-considered language policy, with a focus on bilingualism, plays an important role in achieving these goals. This is what I would like to achieve.

8 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 8 B a s v a n G r o e z e n Onze universiteit moet een plek zijn (en blijven!) waar ieder het beste uit zichzelf kan halen; waar zowel docenten, onderzoekers, studenten als ondersteunend personeel goed kunnen samenwerken. Hierbij moet niet vergeten worden dat we steeds internationaler worden, wat soms aanpassingen vergt. Alles bij het oude laten is daarom uiteindelijk niet in ons belang. Daarbij is het cruciaal dat in de Universiteitsraad de geluiden van alle betrokkenen doorklinken; de kennis en ervaring met de kerntaken van onze universiteit bevindt zich immers op de werkvloer. Zo kan worden voorkomen dat top-down besluiten in de praktijk slecht blijken uit te pakken. Zeker in tijden van bezuinigingen is het belangrijk een goede en weloverwogen balans tussen verschillende belangen te vinden. Op dit moment wil ik me vooral inzetten als steunkandidaat voor de fractie Onafhankelijken, om met een kritische maar ook coöperatieve blik een bijdrage te leveren, zonder de ambitie om in de Universiteitsraadplaats te nemen. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 8 B a s v a n G r o e z e n Our university must be (and stay!) a place where everybody can get the most out of themselves; where both teachers, researchers, students and supporting staff can cooperate well. We should bear in mind that we are becoming more international, which sometimes requires adjustments. Leaving all things as they are is therefore eventually not in our best interest. It is crucial that the University council knows about the opinions of all people involved; after all, people at the workplace have the knowledge and experience with the core business of our university. This way, one can prevent that top-down decisions turn out to be bad in practice. Especially in times of budget cuts, it is important that a good and considered balance is found between different interests. At this moment, I especially want to act as a supporting candidate for the Independents, to contribute with a critical but also cooperative mind, without the ambition to actually take part in the University Council.

9 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 9 L a u r e n s d e G r a a f Checks and Balances! Democratie is een groot goed, ook op een universiteit. Net als bij andere publieke organisaties is het voor onze universiteit van groot belang dat er 'checks and balances' zijn. Vanuit de fractie Onafhankelijken wil ik daar graag aan bijdragen als steunfractielid. Ik sta op een niet verkiesbare plaats. Dat betekent dat ik geen zitting zal nemen in de raad, mocht ik verkozen worden. Het betekent wel dat ik betrokken ben bij de fractie en de weg naar de zittende U-raadsleden van de Onafhankelijken snel weet te vinden. Fractie Onafhankelijken heeft afgelopen jaren laten zien de besluitvorming en het bestuur kritisch te volgen. Komende jaren hoop ik daar ook mijn steentje aan bij te kunnen dragen. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 9 L a u r e n s d e G r a a f Checks and Balances! Democracy is very valuable, also at our university. Hence, it is very important to have checks and balances and for TiU personnel to be able to influence the decisionmaking process of our Executive Board. I want to contribute to this as a support member of the Independents. This means that I will not serve on the university council in case I might be directly elected. But I will be closely connected to and involved with the council members of the Independents. Over the last decade, this council party has succesfully and critically followed the decisionmaking of the Executive Board. We will continue to do so! I'd like to contribute to this as well in coming years.

10 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 10 C a r o l i e n S t e e n s Ik sta op de kieslijst van de fractie Onafhankelijken omdat ik het van belang vind dat er in de medezeggenschap vanuit de verschillende geledingen van onze universiteit kritisch wordt meegekeken naar de beleid- en besluitvorming en met name naar de uitvoering van het strategisch plan. Het motto van de fractie Onafhankelijken, kritisch coöperatief, sluit goed aan bij mijn manier van werken: meewerken aan het behalen van de doelstellingen van de universiteit waarbij er gezamenlijk gedacht wordt in oplossingen en er oog is voor de belangen van de medewerkers en studenten van de universiteit. Ik heb dit jaar geen verkiesbare plek op de kandidatenlijst, maar ik lever mijn bijdrage door de fractie van relevante input te voorzien. Ik vind het erg interessant om op de diverse onderwerpen mee te mogen denken en doe dat dan ook met veel enthousiasme. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 10 C a r o l i e n S t e e n s My name is on the Independents list of candidates, because in my opinion, it is very important that the different sections of our university are involved in policy and decision making, and, in particular, in the implementation of the Strategic Plan. The Independents motto critically cooperative corresponds well with my way of working: making a contribution to realizing the university s objectives, thinking in solutions while keeping the interests of the staff and students of the university in mind. I am not electable this year, but I will make my contribution by providing the Independents with relevant input. I find it very interesting to help think about various topics and will do so critically and enthusiastically.

11 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 11 R i c h a r d A n t e n s Medezeggenschap is een belangrijk recht, een recht waar ik graag in wil meedenken en aan wil meewerken. De Universiteitsraad is daarvoor een prachtig orgaan; vertegenwoordigd door afgevaardigden uit de breedte van de organisatie, kunnen de medewerkers van onze Universiteit meepraten en meebeslissen over belangrijke punten en de dagelijkse gang van zaken. Zeker in de aankomende tijd van veranderingen is het van groot belang om de bewegingen van onze organisatie goed te volgen en sturing te kunnen geven in het belang van de medewerkers. Als fractie Onafhankelijken staan wij er voor onze medewerkers - zowel WP als OBP - en ik wil mij daar graag persoonlijk voor inzetten. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 11 R i c h a r d A n t e n s Participation (co-partnership, might be a better term) is an important right, a right of which I would like to take advantage. The University Council is a wonderful institution; represented by delegates from the entire breadth of the university, the employees of our University have a say in decisions about important issues and daily affairs. Especially in the upcoming time of change, it is important to keep track of the movements of our organization and to be able to give direction and input reflecting the interests of the employees. As the Independents, our goal is to represent all Tilburg University employees - both academic and support staff - and I would like to personally commit myself to this goal.

12 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 12 G e r v a n d e r S a n g e n Ik heb nu 4 jaar voor de fractie Onafhankelijken in de UR gezeten en ondersteun de lijst van de fractie graag. Mijn ervaring is dat de UR de plek is waar personeel en studenten daadwerkelijk kunnen meepraten, meebeslissen en eigen initiatieven kunnen inbrengen over het beleid van de universiteit. De sfeer in de UR is kritisch en professioneel maar ook communicatief en open. Jouw stem en inbreng doet er daadwerkelijk toe. Onze fractie zet zich er voor in om de universiteit als plek waar professionals werken en studeren nog beter te maken met behoud van de menselijke maat. Om dat te kunnen doen is de inbreng van ondersteunend en wetenschappelijk personeel en studenten onontbeerlijk. Laat je geluid horen via de fractie van de Onafhankelijken. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 12 G e r v a n d e r S a n g e n I have been on the University Council for the Independents for four years and I will happily continue to support the party. In my experience, the University Council is a place where staff and students can actually contribute to the university s policies. The atmosphere on the University Council is critical and professional, but also communicative and open. Your voice and contribution actually matter. Our party is committed to making Tilburg University an even better place for professionals to work and students to study, without losing sight of the human measure. To achieve this goal, active participation on the part of supporting and scientific staff and students is indispensible. Make your voice heard through the Independents.

13 F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 13 M a r t i n v a n T u i j l Al sinds jaar en dag laten de Onafhankelijken in de Universiteitsraad zich leiden door het motto kritisch en coöperatief. Wij hopen via deze vorm van medezeggenschap een bijdrage te leveren aan een instituut waar medewerkers en studenten prestaties van formaat kunnen realiseren. De medezeggenschap is een instrument van niet te onderschatten betekenis. Langs deze weg beschikt de totale academische gemeenschap immers over een belangrijke vorm van inspraak. Niet alleen voor medewerkers, maar ook voor studenten is hierbij een belangrijke rol weggelegd. In het niet eens zo grijze verleden heb ik daar zelf aan bij mogen dragen. Uiterst bekwame opvolgers hebben ondertussen het estafettestokje overgenomen. In principe ben ik bij deze verkiezingen slechts een eenvoudige lijstduwer. Mocht ik desondanks worden gekozen dan zal ik mijn verantwoordelijkheid niet ontlopen. Liever niet, want de huidige raadsleden/kandidaten zijn het tegendeel van luiaards en non-valeurs, om met een voormalig minister-president te spreken. F r a c t i e O n a f h a n k e l i j k e n 13 M a r t i n v a n T u i j l For many years the Independents on the University Council have been guided by the motto critically cooperative. Through the University Council we hope to contribute to an institution where staff and students can excel. Staff and student participation is an invaluable instrument which provides the entire academic community with an important voice in the decision-making process. In the not so distant past I myself was a member of the University Council. Extremely capable successors have now taken over. In these elections I am, in principle, merely a supporting candidate. Should I, nevertheless, be elected, I will not evade my responsibility. I would, however, prefer to support the current members / candidates, who are by no means dawdlers or layabouts.
