Queen s Day is celebrated each year on the 30th of April. On that day almost every Amsterdammer and many visitors offer personal stuff for sale at the largest free market in the world. A través de los siglos, los mercadillos locales de Ámsterdam han sido los puntos donde la vida transcurría día tras día. Los mercadillos locales son una mezcla universal multi cultural de gente: negros, blancos, rojos, verdes y grises. En los mercadillos se intercambian productos, pero también formas de pensar. No hay cabida para ninguna forma de racismo. El mundo es uno, en el mercadillo. Son un lugar material, pero también muy espiritual. Cuando compartimos algo, otra cosa se multiplica. La gente es lo que crea un mercadillo. El dinero? El dinero es sólo algo para cerrar el trato. Antiguamente se hacía con conchas brillantes y judías crudas de cacao. Disfrútenla... mucho! * Una vez al año, tenemos una superficie de mercados en la ciudad todavía mayor que todos los mercados callejeros públicos juntos: durante el aniversario de la Reina. El día de la Reina se celebra cada año el 30 de abril. En ese día, casi cada ciudadano, y muchos de los visitantes también se apuntan, ponen a la venta objetos personales en el mercado libre más grande del mundo. No puede perderse un día como éste! La superficie del mercado en el Día de la Reina cubre casi toda la ciudad.

2 2 A u g u s t u s Singel Bloemenmarkt op Singel: altijd frisse blommetjes! Singel De Bloemenmarkt aan het Singel kleurt en geurt ons gedurende het hele jaar tegemoet in onze binnenstad. Uniek is dat de koopwaar nog altijd deels is uitgestald op drijvende schuiten. Een overblijfsel uit de tijden toen de bloemen en planten verscheept werden vanuit de omliggende tuinbouwgebieden. Vandaag worden nog altijd verse bloemen aangeleverd; al lang niet meer per boot, maar over de autoweg. Deze drijvende Bloemenmarkt aan één van de oudste Mokumse grachten begon in Sindsdien ontwikkelde deze markt zich tot de bekendste bloemenmarkt van Nederland. Welke lievelingsbloemen je ook op het oog hebt, hier zul je ze vinden. De handel loopt uiteen van de traditionele Hollandse tulpen en geraniums tot fraaie binnenhuis-cypressen en planten van de Paaseilanden. Karakteristieke Hollandse souvenirs zijn hier ook overvloedig te koop. In december kleurt de hele Bloemenmarkt groen van de bergen kerstbomen in alle vormen en maten. The Singel Flower Market is one of the most colourful and fragrant places of interest of Amsterdam in all four seasons. It is unique that the merchandise is displayed on floating barges. This is a relic from the days when the flowers and plants sold at this market were shipped in from the horticultural areas around the city by barges. Fresh flowers are still brought in every day; by vans, however, and no longer by boat. This floating flower market on one of the oldest canals of Amsterdam was first held in It has since developed into the best-known flower market of Holland. Whatever your favourite flower, you are bound to find it here. Merchandise ranges from the traditional Dutch tulips and geraniums to delicate indoor cypresses and manobole plants from the Easter Islands. Typically Dutch souvenirs are sold too. El mercado de flores Singel es uno de los sitios más coloridos y fragrantes de Ámsterdam en todas las estaciones. Lo más singular de este mercado es que la mercancía se presenta en barcazas flotantes. Peculiaridad que ha conservado como una reliquia de aquellos tiempos en que las flores y plantas que se vendían en este mercado eran transportadas desde las huertas circundantes en pequeñas embarcaciones. Actualmente las flores aún son transportadas diariamente al mercado; aunque en furgoneta, ya no se traen en barca. Este mercado de flores flotante en uno de los canales más antiguos de Ámsterdam se celebró por primera vez en Desde entonces ha ido evolucionando para convertirse en el mercado floral más conocido de toda Holanda. Sea cual sea su flor preferida, seguro que la encontrará aquí. 3 Waterlooplein Waterloopleinmarkt: voor echte Amsterdamse sfeer! Het Waterlooplein is de oudste vlooienmarkt van Amsterdam. In deze voormalige Jodenbuurt ligt een tragische geschiedenis verborgen als gevolg van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de laffe misdaden van de nazi-horden. Er was veel volksverzet op deze plek. Na de bevrijding liet men de omliggende woonbuurten verkrotten en de bouw van ons nieuwe stadhuis-muziektheater (1986), de sloop van de omliggende Nieuwmarktbuurt en de metro-aanleg leidden tot veel rellen. Mede als gevolg hiervan werden er daarna zeer veel betaalbare huurhuizen gebouwd in de hele stad. Gelukkig keerde de Waterloopleinmarkt weer terug, vlak naast de Stopera (stadhuis-muziektheater). Dit was ook de vurige wens van de Oostenrijkse architect Wilhelm Holzbauer. Deze Waterloopleinmarkt heeft veel van haar oude karakter behouden. Het is hier gezellig, echt Amsterdams, met veel echte eigen producten en koopjes op de kramen, zoals kleding, souvenirs, antiek, curiosa en rommeltjes. The Waterlooplein is the oldest flee-market of Amsterdam. This previously Jewish neighbourhood has a tragic history as a result of the second world war and the cowardly crimes committed by the nazis. There was a lot of citizen resistance on this spot. The construction of our new built town hall and music theatre (1986) and the demolition of the surrounding Nieuwmarkt area and the new metro construction led to many riots. As a result of this many affordable houses were built in various urban areas. Fortunately the Waterlooplein street market returned, next to the Stopera (town hall and music theatre). This was also the wish of the austrian architect Wilhelm Holzbauer. The Waterlooplein street market has maintained many of its characteristics. It is really cosy, the real Amsterdam with many original and typical products at bargain prices such as clothing, souvenirs, antiques and much more. Opening hours: monday till saturday from hrs. Website: EL MERCADILLO DE WATERLOOPLEIN: EL AUTÉNTICO AMBIENTE DE ÁMSTERDAM! El Waterlooplein es el mercadillo más antiguo de Ámsterdam.Antiguamente un barrio judío, éste barrio ha tenido una historia trágica como resultado de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y los cobardes crímenes perpetrados por los nazis. Hubo mucho resistencia civil en éste punto. La reciente construcción de nuestro ayuntamiento, teatro y sala de conciertos (1986), la demolición de la zona de Nieuwmarkt y la nuevo construcción de metro dieron lugar a numerosas revueltas. Como resultado de todo ello, muchas casas muy asequibles fueron construidas en diversas zonas urbanas. Afortunadamente el mercadillo de Waterlooplein volvió, cerca del Stopera (ayuntamiento y teatro). Éste era también el deseo del arquitecto austriaco Wilhelm Holzabauer. El mercadillo de Waterlooplein ha mantenido muchas de sus principales caraterísticas. Es muy agradable, el verdadero Ámsterdam con muchos de sus originales y típicos productos a precios de ganga como pueden ser la ropa, los souvenirs (recuerdo vacacional), antigüedades y muchas cosas más. 4 4 A u g u s t u s Noordermarkt Nooit meer naar de supermarkt! Noordermarkt Unieke Mokumse markt, waarvan niemand precies weet hoe oud die al is. Met biologische boerenmarkt op zaterdag. Met kleding en lapjes op maandag (tot uur). Mokummers en bezoekers van ver buiten Amsterdam komen naar de unieke Noordermarkt! Boerenmarkten zijn al heel oud, maar in Amsterdam ook tamelijk nieuw. In 1987 startten enkele slimme mensen deze eerste moderne Nederlandse Boerenmarkt: op elke zaterdag bij de Noorderkerk in de Jordaan. Begin vorige eeuw draaide hier ook al een markt van boeren met hun eigen producten. Een boerenmarkt bleek ook in deze moderne tijd mogelijk. Biologisch, dat sloeg enorm aan. Mooie producten, verkocht door de boeren zelf en zindelijk geteeld. Schone en eerlijk bereide etenswaren. Met goede, gifvrije verse groenten, heerlijke kazen, geurige kruiden, frisse zuivel en knapperige broden op deze gezellige markt verwent de Amsterdammer zichzelf en de ander. Niets is lekkerder! Nooit meer naar de supermarkt! De boerenmarkt groeide. Veel kleine boeren wisten dankzij deze markt hun bedrijf overeind te houden. Later kwamen er meer boerenmarkten in Amsterdam NEVER AGAIN TO THE SUPERMARKET! Unique Amsterdam Inner City Market. No one knows exactly how old this market is. Featuring the organic farmers market every Saturday! Europe s oldest and largest Fabric Market every Monday (until 1 pm). Amsterdammers and visitors from around the world love the unique Noorder market. - zoals op Haarlemmerplein en Van Eesterenlaan (Zeeburg). Maar de Noordermarkt blijft uniek en enorm populair, ook als ontmoetingsplaats van veelkleurige Amsterdammers, buitenlui en toeristen. Op de Noordermarkt gaat het niet alleen over voedsel (zaterdag), maar ook om boeken, opoe s spulletjes en antiek (zaterdag en maandag). En bloemen zouden eigenlijk altijd ecologisch moeten zijn. Je geeft elkaar toch geen giftig boeket cadeau? Op vrijdagen 28 augustus en 11 september: Mont Martre Curiosa-markt ( u.) NUNCA MÁS AL SUPERMERCADO! El único mercado del centro de la ciudad. Nadie sabe exactamente cuándo se celebró por primera vez. Organiza un mercado de productos de cultivo ecológico cada sábado. El mercado de telas y tejidos más grande y más antiguo de Europa, cada lunes hasta las 1 de la tarde. In 1987, a few smart people started with this first modern Dutch Farmers market: every Saturday at the Northern Church in the Jordan. In the beginning of the last century there was also a market of farmers with their own products here. A farmers market also seemed possible in our days. Biologically, this was a huge hit. Fancy products, sold by the farmers themselves and cleanly cultivated. Beautiful and honourably prepared food products. With good, non-toxic fresh vegetables, delicious cheeses, aromatic herbs, fresh dairy and crispy bread, at this cosy market, the people of Amsterdam spoil themselves and everyone else. Nothing is more delicious! Never again to the supermarket! The farmers market has been growing. Many small farmers were able to keep their company going thanks to this market. Later on more farmers markets arose in Amsterdam like at the Haarlemmer square and the Van Eesterenlaan (Zeeburg). But the Northern market remains unique and enormously popular, also as a meeting place for the multicoloured people of Amsterdam, country people and tourists. At the Northern market not everything is about food (Saturday), but also about books, grandfathers stuff and antiques (Saturday and Monday). And flowers should always be ecological. You don t want to give a toxic bouquet as a gift, do you? On Fridays August 28th and September 11th: Mont Martre Curiosa-market (10.00am-4.30pm) Los mercados agrícolas son muy anti-guos, pero en Ámsterdam... también son bastante nuevos. En 1987, un grupo de gente emprendedora instauró el primer mercado agrícola moderno en Holanda: cada sábado en la Iglesia del Norte (Noorderkerk) en el barrio de Jordaan. A principios del siglo pasado también existía en este mismo lugar un mercado en el que los campesinos vendían sus propios productos. Un mercado de productos agrícolas también nos parecía factible en estos tiempos modernos. Biológicamente, ha sido un gran éxito. Productos de calidad que han sido cultivados con esmero y son vendidos por los mismos agricultores. Alimentos bien presentados y preparados con honores. Con verduras frescas, deliciosas y no tóxicas, quesos exquisitos, hierbas aromáticas y pan tierno y crujiente a diario. En este mercado tan acogedor se dejan seducir tanto los habitantes de Ámsterdam como los que están de paso. No encontrará nada más delicioso! Nunca más al supermercado! El mercado agrícola ha experimentado un gran crecimiento. Muchos pequeños agricultores han podido mantenerse a flote gracias a este mercado. Posteriormente, han surgido más mercados agrícolas en Ámsterdam, como el de la plaza de Haarlemmer y el de Van Eesterenlaan (Zeeburg). Pero el mercado del Norte continúa siendo único y el más popular de todos, también se ha establecido como punto de encuentro y es una muestra de la heterogeneidad de los habitantes de Ámsterdam, campesinos y turistas. En el mercado del Norte no todo se reduce a comida (los sábados), también encontrará libros, antigüedades y trastos viejos (los sábados y los lunes). Y las flores que siempre deberían ser ecológicas. 5 Boerenmarkt A u g u s t u s MULTI-CULINAIRE BOERENMARKT Haarlemmerplein Op het Haarlemmerplein staat de boer elke woensdag in onze stad. De kooplieden op de Boerenmarkt zijn zelf de producenten van hun karakteristieke koopwaar. Da s op zich al uniek. Een multi-culinaire boerenmarkt, met unieke, eigen boerenproducten. Hemel en aarde is ervoor bewogen. Veel strijd is ervoor geleverd. De aanhouder wint, zeggen Amsterdammers. Foto s boven en onder: Lucas van Walstijn Onze Haarlemmerpoort vormt al eeuwen een rots in de branding, tussen het langsrazende snelverkeer. Of dit object ook mooi is, daarover zijn de meningen bij ons verdeeld. Maar deze stadspoort is de oude stadstoegang vanuit Haarlem onderdeel van de voormalige stadsmuren, die nu allang niet meer bestaan. Op woensdag treft u tegenover de Haarlemmerpoort onze multi-culinaire Boerenmarkt aan. De kramen staan in een opvallende ring. Dat geeft goed overzicht. Heerlijke biologische groenten, kazen, lekker brood, Marokkaanse olijven, en een palingboer met een mobiele rokerij en dan ook nog een kraam met hertenvlees. Prachtige Cubaanse CD s en DVD s zijn te koop bij Willem Veldhoven, jam-maker (waaronder Lemon Curd Bio-jam met aardappelpuree en tapioca-stroop) en Cuba-ganger / CD-producer. Hij hopt heen en weer tussen Holland en Holanda pro Cuba, ontwikkelingsprojecten rond scholen en ziekenhuizen. Hiervoor zet Willem zich onvermoeibaar in. Paul de Wit (Hoenderspecialist uit Zeeuws-Vlaanderen) kreeg, samen met anderen, het idee voor een boerenmarkt in de stad. Hij vertelt: Op onze Boerenmarkt staan kooplieden met passie achter hun kraam. Zij brengen pure, karakteristieke eigen producten vanuit alle windstreken. Biologisch, maar dat hoeft bij ons niet per sé. In elk geval gaat het om traditionele producten. Mensen worden steeds bewuster rond hun voeding. Aan die toenemende culinaire behoefte willen wij graag voldoen. Deze multi-culinaire Boerenmarkt trekt klanten uit alle windstreken. Vanaf het Centraal Station duikt u links de afwisselende Haarlemmerstraat en Haarlemmerdijk in (leuke winkeltjes in alle soorten en maten) en dan komt u vanzelf uit op deze Boerenmarkt. Multi-Culinaire Boerenmarkt, Haarlemmerplein: elke woensdag ( uur). MULTI-CULINARY FARMERS MARKET Every Wednesday the farmers are present at Haarlemmer Plein (Square) at the western edge of Amsterdam s Inner-City. The merchants at the Haarlemmerplein Farmers Market also are the producers of their characteristic products. That in itself is unique. A multi-culinary farmers market, with unique typical farmers produce and products. But this old City gate is the old entrance /exit to the City of Haarlem (to the west). The gate was part of the old City Wall system; unfortunately now extinct. Every Wednesday you can visit the multi-culinary Farmers Market here. The Stalls are in an obvious circle; easy to peruse. Delicious organic veggies, cheeses, all types of bread, Moroccan and Greek olives, an original Dutch Eel merchant who smokes his eel on location, and even a stall with local venison. Willem Veldhoven, an organic jam maker (such as lemon curd bio-jam with mashed potato and tapioca syrup) with a passion for Cuban music is also a CD producer. Willem travels back and forth between Holland and Holland pro Cuba, development projects round schools and hospitals. He is simply relentless. Paul de Wit, a poultry specialist from near the Belgian border, is one of the originators of the idea to start this urban farmers market. He informs: At our farmers market you ll find merchants with passion manning the stalls. They bring pure, characteristic produce and products from all over. 6 6 A u g u s t u s Nieuwmarkt Nieuwmarkt Nieuwmarkt, met Waag en eeuwenoude gezelligheid De Nieuwmarkt is al eeuwenoud. Op tien minuutjes wandelen vanaf het Centraal Station treft u deze dagmarkt aan de voet van de prachtige, monumentale Waag: met een goed terras, café-restaurant en cultureel-technologisch centrum. En vele andere goede café s daar omheen. En pal om de hoek de wereldberoemde rosse buurt aan de Wallen en Zeedijk. We spreken hier over het oudste en meest karakteristieke stukje Amsterdam. De gezelligheid op en rond de Nieuwmarkt kan niet kapot - al voert het stadsbestuur een fel omstreden opschoningsactie (operatie 2012), om Mokum hier weer wat netter en fatsoenlijker te maken. Maar de echte criminaliteit is door alle tijden heen op zeer uiteenlopende wijze bestreden, zeggen we dan maar. De echte boeven werden hier ooit op de Nieuwmarkt publiekelijk aan de strop gehangen, onder luid gejoel van massaal toegestroomd publiek. Leedvermaak rond overheidsmoord was hier een uitje! Het marktplein ontstond in 1614 en door de stadsuitbreiding verloor de St-Anthoniespoort (uit 1488) zijn verdedigende functie en werd een waag, waarin weer later ook gilden werden gehuisvest. Op het plein was ondermeer een veemarkt. Tijdens de Duitse nazi-bezetting werd de Nieuwmarkt gebruikt als verzamelplaats voor joden-deportaties. In de jaren zeventig werd de Nieuwmarktbuurt deels gesloopt voor de bouw van onze eerste metrolijn. Massaal buurtverzet leidde tot hevige rellen, onder het motto Geen buizen maar huizen. In het metrostation Nieuwmarkt kunt u hierover nog heel wat zien. Gelukkig werd de Nieuwmarkt fraai herbouwd met betaalbare woningen, zonder de geplande snelweg bovenop de metrobuis. Later werd ook het Nieuwmarkt-plein eindelijk in ere hersteld: de afschuwelijke autoparkeerplaats verdween en de markt kwam weer terug: dagelijks en op zaterdag óók met een biologische markt. De bloemen- en plantenmarkt (Amstelveld) is deze zomer verplaatst naar hier: elke maandag! En in de hele zomer op elke zondag: antiek-, kunst-, curiosa- en boekenmarkt! The market square came into existence in 1614 and due to the expansion of the city the St-Anthonies Gate (from 1488) lost its defensive function and became a weighing-house, in which later on guilds were housed. At the square there was, among other things, a cattle-market. During the German Nazi-occupation the Nieuwmarkt was used as a gathering place for the deportation of the Jews. During the seventies, the Nieuwmarkt district was partially demolished for the construction of our first metro line. Massive opposition in the neighbourhood led to severe riots, with the motto No tubes, but homes. In the metro station of the Nieuwmarkt you can still see a lot on this subject. Fortunately the Nieuwmarkt has been beautifully rebuilt with affordable houses, without the planned highway on top of the metro tube. NIEUWMARKT, CON EL EMBLEMÁTICO EDIFICIO DEL PESO Y UN SENTIMIENTO ACOGEDOR MUY ANTIGUO El Nieuwmarkt ya cuenta con varios siglos de antigüedad. A diez minutos andando de la estación central se encuentra este mercado diario, a los pies del magnífico y monumental Edificio del peso Waaggebouw: con una gran terraza, un bar restaurante y un centro tecnológico y cultural. Y a su alrededor, muchos otros bares. A dos pasos del famosísimo Distrito Rojo, denominado coloquialmente, De Wallen y De Zeedijk. Aquí nos referimos a la parte más antigua y más característica de Ámsterdam. Esa sensación acogedora que despiertan el Nieuwmarkt y sus alrededores no puede desvanecerse; aunque el ayuntamiento esté llevando a cabo una campaña de limpieza muy controvertida (operación 2012) para convertir esta área de Mokum (nombre judío para Ámsterdam) en una área un poco más decente y respetable. Pero durante los últimos años, la lucha contra los verdaderos delitos se ha desarrollado de forma muy diversa, al menos esto es lo que decimos. En tiempos pasados, los ladrones eran colgados públicamente de una soga en el Nieuwmarkt, y vituperados por los gritos de la gran multitud que se amontonaba en la plaza. El regocijo en las desgracias ajenas relacionadas con el asesinato público era motivo de una excursión hasta esta plaza! La plaza del mercado fue construida en el 1614 y a causa de la expansión de la ciudad la puerta de St. Anthonie (a partir del 1488) perdió su función defensiva y se convirtió en un Edificio del peso, en el que posteriormente se hospedarían los gremios. En la plaza, entre otras cosas, había un mercado de ganado. Durante la ocupación nazi, el Nieuwmarkt se utilizó como lugar de reunión para la deportación de los judíos. Durante los años setenta, el distrito de Nieuwmarkt fue derribado parcialmente para la construcción de la primera línea de metro. La oposición en masa de los vecinos del barrio fue motivo de fuertes disturbios bajo el lema No al metro, sí a las viviendas. En la estación de metro de Nieuwmarkt aún se hace patente la presencia de esta oposición. Afortunadamente, el distrito Nieuwmarkt ha sido reconstruido fantásticamente con viviendas asequibles, sin llevar a cabo la autopista planificada por encima del metro. Posteriormente, la plaza de Nieuwmarkt también fue rehabilitada: ha desaparecido el horrible parking de coches y se ha vuelto a instaurar el mercado diariamente y los sábados además tiene lugar un mercado de productos biológicos. 7 Een echte klassieke Mokumse warenmarkt: die vind je aan de Ten Katestraat in Oud-West. Met zo n 140 kramen proberen de kooplieden er dagelijks steeds weer het beste van te maken. Geen simpele klus. Het woord crisis hoor je ook op de markt vaak rondzingen. Niet zó gek, want de handel is altijd een dagelijkse strijd om het bestaan: ook dàt is helaas klassiek aan de Ten Katemarkt. Maar koopman en kramenzetter Martin Kelch blijft altijd optimistisch. Hij heeft nooit zin om te mopperen. Hij laat zich niet in een dip lullen. Hij heeft vertrouwen in de toekomstplannen die kooplieden, bewoners en stadsdeel onlangs samen ontwikkelden. Geen luchtfietserijen. Zelf aan de slag blijven is de redding van elke markt, zegt Martin Kelch. Op de Ten Katestraat staan ze met hun voeten op de grond. Geniet ervan. En kom. En koop! Want ook hier is je ouwe gulden niet ge(n)euroot. Dit groepsportret werd gemaakt door WG-Kunst in opdracht van Stadsdeel Oud-West, in het kader van het project Particuliere Woningverbetering Ten Katemarkt. De makers lieten zich inspireren door de Nachtwacht, het beroemdste schilderij van Rembrandt van Rijn. Het publiek keek steeds mee tijdens het schilderwerk. The Market Watch : a Night watch for the people of Amsterdam Old-West The Market Watch is a painting (2.5 x 3 meters) featuring 28 Market Merchants of the Ten Kate Market. They power the operation of the daily Ten Kate Market. The artists of WG Kunst, commissioned by the Borough of Amsterdam Old-West, created this group portrait. The Commission was part of the project Private Home Improvement Ten Kate Market. The artists got inspired to do this project by Rembrandt van Rijn s most famous work: The Nightwatch. During the painting progress the audience could constantly monitor the the artists work. La ronda del mercado : una Ronda nocturna para la gente de Oud-West de Ámsterdam La ronda del mercado es un cuadro (2,5 x 3 metros) en el que se representan 28 comerciantes del mercado Ten Kate. Ellos son quienes impulsan las actividades diarias en el mercado Ten Kate. Para la realización de este retrato en grupo, el distrito Oud-West de la ciudad de Ámsterdam se puso en contacto con el grupo los artistas de WG Kunst que asumió la realización del proyecto. Este encargo forma parte de proyecto del mercado Ten Kate para la Mejora del Domicilio Privado. Los artistas se inspiraron en la famosísima obra de Rembrandt van Rijn La ronda nocturna durante el año Rembrandt en el 2006.Durante la realización del proyecto, el público tuvo la oportunidad de seguir de cerca el progreso del trabajo de los artistas.

De Cuyp is wereldberoemd. In 2005 vierde ze haar eeuwfeest, mét een bezoek van onze koningin Beatrix die hier vele marktkramen afstruinde en de vriendelijke kooplui ondervroeg. Ondanks de metrobouw-ellende om de hoek wordt de Albert Cuyp druk bezocht. Wandelend of per fiets. En volgend jaar ook per boot. De Cuyp is gezellig, divers en respectvol: multi-culti. Eeuwig populair. De carrière van volkszanger André Hazes begon ooit hier op deze markt. Als achtjarig jochie stond hij op een sinaasappelkistje luidkeels te zingen, om een cadeau voor zijn moeder te kunnen betalen. Er kwam een (volwassen) Hazes-standbeeld op de Cuyp, een jaar na zijn dood. Veel bekende Nederlanders, schrijvers, studenten en immigranten maakten de Albert Cuyp landelijk bekend. Velen van hen wonen of woonden immers zelf in de Pijp, het Quartier Latin van Amsterdam. Hollanders leerden om ook eens wat anders te eten dan stamppot of andijvie met een bal gehakt. In de Pijp kun je zo ongeveer alle gerechten ter wereld genieten. Het rijke aanbod op de Albert Cuypmarkt is hiervan de weerspiegeling: over een lengte waar geen einde aan komt. Veel kramen zijn hier bovendien direct verbonden met winkels. Fabrics in vibrant colors and all textures greet the sewing enthusiasts; mouth-watering aromas from ethnic dishes make it nearly impossible to settle on just one dish for lunch; merchants radios tuned to multicultural stations as children bounce up and down to the beat; smells of fresh cut flowers linger in the air; dialects from all corners of the world are heard uttering the latest gossip, catching up with one another or haggling for a better deal. There s something quaint about rubbing elbows while digging through mountains of discounted accessories, or scrutinizing the neatly displayed merchandise to pick out the freshest looking produce. 11 Zuid-Oost A u g u s t u s Vier reizende wereldmarkten in Zuid-Oost! Ganzenhoef De vier markten in Amsterdam Zuid-Oost zijn stuk voor stuk werelds te noemen. Surinaams, Antilliaans, Afrikaans, Indiaas, Chinees en vele andere Verweggistans komen hier samen. Met groente en fruit in alle kleuren van de regenboog. De fraaie en heerlijke producten zijn hier precies zoals onze kooplieden en onze klanten zelf: bont, blank, zwart, rood, geel. Werelds: binnen en ook ver buiten Zuid-Oost. Alles lacht je hier toe, weer of geen weer. Op het Anton de Komplein (Amsterdamse Poort), Kraaiennest, Ganzenhoef en Reigersbos zijn de bewoners al meer dan dertig jaar gewend aan de gezellige en exotische sfeer. Mensen en spullen uit alle windstreken. Op alle dagen van de week. Ervaren en vriendelijke kooplieden staan hier, met hun talloze in- en uitheemse producten. Integratie tussen de talloze nationaliteiten gaat hier eigenlijk vanzelf. Hoe komt dat? Omdat de markt een plek is waar je elkaar ontmoet, waar je een praatje maakt, waar je grappen maakt en waar je ook weleens gemopper hoort. Hoort er allemaal bij, het lijkt wel het echte volle leven, op de wereldmarkten in Zuid-Oost. De meeste kooplieden staan op alle wereldmarkten van Zuid-Oost: zij zijn letterlijk van alle markten thuis. Je kan hier spreken van één grote, bonte, exotische reizende markt binnen een moderne stadswijk. Kraaiennest Anton de Komplein Reigersbos Op vrijdag 28 augustus vindt de derde Midzomernachtmarkt plaats. Ook dan staat het stadsdeel er weer met een Ik-Vertel-Mee zuil: waar mensen een persoonlijke videoboodschap kunnen inspreken over wat zij zelf belangrijk vinden aan hun woonomgeving. Zo n Ik-Vertel-Mee zuil lijkt op de Zuid- Oost-variant van het bekende tv-programma Man Bijt Hond. Iedereen kan vertellen wat er nu zo belangrijk is aan Reigersbos. Als sluitstuk organiseert het stadsdeel op donderdagavond 24 september een bewonersavond waarop de resultaten uit deze drie avonden worden getoond via een videocompilatie en discussie met geïnteresseerden uit Reigersbos. Plaats: Drie-Stromenkerk, Reewijkstraat. Jan Fleijsman is kramenzetter, al vanaf Hij behoorde tot de pioniers van de allereerste Bijlmermarkt: op Kraaiennest, vanaf toen alleen nog op de zaterdag. Maar al gauw kwamen er toen andere markten bij. Jan zegt: Eigenlijk reisde deze markt naar andere plekken waar veel mensen toch al samen kwamen, vanwege de winkelcentra. Zo werd het vanzelf een reizende markt! Een uniek fenomeen, dat verder nergens bestaat. Zijn vader Co Fleijsman kwam destijds op dit zo simpele en creatieve idee. Co was ook kramenzetter, al vanaf 1924 op o.a. de Jordaanmarkten. En de politiek had wel oren naar zo n reizende markt, aldus Jan. Jan Fleijsman: Onze vier markten zijn allemaal even kleurrijk. Iedereen loopt hier lekker door elkaar heen. Het zijn stuk voor stuk gezellige mensen, die elkaar hier ontmoeten, zowel s zomers als s winters. Jan heeft nog een actuele koopmanstip: In deze crisistijd kun Jan Fleijsman, directeur Marktkramen Verhuurbedrijf, is een geboren Amsterdammer en bovendien een actieve, gedreven Ajaxied sinds mensenheugenis. Jan Fleijsman has been a stand builder since He was one of the pioneers of the first Bijlmer market: at Kraaiennest, since 1972 at that time only on Saturday. But soon after, other markets arose. Jan says: In fact this market travelled to other places where a lot of people came together anyway, because of the shopping centres. It became a travelling market on its own! A unique phenomenon, that doesn t exist elsewhere. His father Co Fleijsman came up with this simple and creative idea. Already in 1924, Co was a stand builder too at, among others, the Jordan markets. And politics had a willing ear to such a travelling market, so says Jan. Jan Fleijsman: Our four markets are all just as colourful. Everybody is nicely walking and mingling. They are all nice people that meet here, both in summertime as in wintertime. Jan also has a merchant s tip of current interest: In these times of crisis, as a merchant you are better off in the market then in a shop. Here the public is walking around anyway! In a shop, you first have to enter. And it is up to the merchant himself whether he knows how to catch attention. Will you be sitting at your stand, hanging around in a chair with a long face, or will you be standing on your feet smiling at the people? Because everybody belongs to the world, the world belongs to everybody. Hace más de treinta años que los residentes de la plaza Anton de Kom (Amsterdamse Poort), Kraaiennest, Ganzenhoef y Reigersbos están acostumbrados a esta atmósfera agradable y exótica. Gente y cosas por todas direcciones. Cada día de la semana. Aquí los comerciantes, amables y experimentados, participan con un sinfín de productos extranjeros e indígenas. La mayoría de los comerciantes participan en todos los mercados cosmopolitas del Sudeste: son literalmente hombres de todos los mercados. Aquí se puede hablar de un gran mercado ambulante, variopinto y exótico dentro de una parte moderna de la ciudad. Jan Fleijsman es constructor de stands desde el Fue uno de los pioneros en el primer mercado de Bijlmer. En Kraaiennest, desde en esa época, sólo los sábados. Pero poco después surgieron más mercados. Jan dice: De hecho este mercado ha viajado a otros lugares donde se reunía mucha gente, debido a los centros comerciales. Se convirtió en un mercado ambulante por sí sólo! Un caso único, que no existe en ningún otro lugar. Su padre, Co Fleijsman, es el artífice de esta simple y creativa idea. Ya en 1924, Co era constructor de stands en los mercados de Jordaan, entre otros. Y la política estaba dispuesta echarnos una mano a este tipo de mercados ambulantes, afirma Jan.
