ARTWORK The stairway to the 23 rd level is a finely crafted work of art in itself. The black marble stairs are anchored into the wall by means of a metal construction. Suspended from the floor of the upper level, a floating glass screen functions as a balustrade. BACK OFFICE Four white/grey desks and low, white filing cabinets against the wall serve as the back office. The desks have an elegant curved design and are made of light materials. The back office is functional and minimalistic, allowing attention to be refocused on other parts of the interior. A clean-desk policy also helps in this regard. CURVE The entrance to Michael Page is on the 4 th storey and is expansive. The wooden rear wall of the reception area on which the company name is writ large catches the eye immediately. The curved blue-purple reception desk with its two receptionists stands in front of it. The ceiling of this space is unique, following the curve of the roof up to seven metres. From this part of the WTC, known as the stage, visitors gaze down upon the Central Hall. IN-HOUSE BUILDING Logistic design is a clear part of the office concept. Candidates are received in one of the interview rooms located directly behind the entranceway. Several rooms have been built in a block that creates the impression of an in-house building. The interview rooms are decorated simply and functionally. The glass walls provide openness, with matte glass strips for privacy. VOID More than 100 personnel work at this Michael Page office. They work in project teams in the open-plan office, which extends as a void over the 3rd and part of the 4th storey. This is not an area for visitors. The zigzagging ceiling in the 3rd storey inspired the designers to create indirect light using reflecting mirrors next to metal hanging lamps. The desks of a team are arranged in a block. Middels de aankleding wordt het onderscheid benadrukt tussen werk- en publieke ruimtes. Kleuraccenten Zo zijn de kantoren en werkruimtes voorzien van donkere en gekleurde vloeren met witte kasten en wanden. In het hart van het gebouw is dit precies andersom. Basismaterialen als hout, natuursteen en metaal onderstrepen de eenheid in de inrichting. In de kantoren benadrukken wisselende, heldere kleurstellingen in tapijt en stoffering de individualiteit van medewerkers. In the offices, the various bright colours in the carpeting and upholstery highlight the individuality of the personnel. The deep purple carpet and the American walnut cabinets give a touch of luxury to the eight meeting rooms surrounding the foyer. UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW Even in the digital world of 2008, the library of paper reference materials and volumes remains a central point. Arranged in rows, each of the bookcases has two recesses where readers can put their books down for reference. The narrow, higher vertical recesses are all aligned. The atmosphere is purely Eastern, with Arabian and Indian influences and a warm colour scheme. INTIMATE ATMOSPHERE Nooon is a place to relax. This is reflected in the name itself, with the extra o implying a leisurely extension of the midday break. The elevated lounge area is decorated with a green-grey OUTSPOKEN In the entrance area, plush red and pink chairs invite guests to take a seat. In front of the wine-red bar, orange lamps bearing the nooon logo often reflect the colour of the tall, golden standing tables. The lighting is refined, and varies according to the time of day and the desired mood. The consistent factor is the outspoken identity of the interior. This comes as no surprise, as the furniture, carpeting and wall décor were designed specifically for nooon. AUSTERE WTC INTERIORS: AND TRANSPARENT ORIGINAL AND FAMILIAR Bank Oyens & Van Eeghen is located on the 15 th floor of the H Tower. The expansive outlook over Amsterdam was the driving concept when designing the offices. The brief for the designer was: to make the design as transparent as possible, with the meeting rooms at the locations with the best views. MATCH Broadly speaking, the offices consist of two parts: a public part and - behind a matte glass separator wall - a section with working spaces. The spacious reception area is dominated by an austere reception desk with the bank s logo on the wall behind it. The colour scheme is dominated by grey and white, offset by the red of two strong easy chairs. Once one is inside, the eye is immediately drawn to the life-size drawing of a young woman. Modern and antique in harmony: two stately portraits of gentlemen in golden frames are hanging just a bit further along. A TELLING WINK The rooms where visitors are received are located next to the entranceway. There is a need for privacy here and the interior façade has been matted to provide it. The soft-grey, rubber floorcovering of the entranceway and corridor flow into the dark-grey carpet tiles here. The austere, businesslike design combines extremely well with large wrapped chandeliers, a salute to the time when the bank s home was on a canal in the heart of Amsterdam. TRANSPARENT Behind the separator wall, several working areas have been created with a maximum of transparency. The interior façades have not been matted here. The walls throughout the offices are pure white, the ideal background for the variety of artworks on the walls. The pantry, too, is austere and white, which calls out for a sharp contrast. De naam verwijst naar het metalen, kubusachtige frame in de hotelkamers waarin diverse voorzieningen voor de gast zijn ingebouwd. Het Qbic is een hotel met een uniek concept en een warme sfeer. Het biedt comfort in compacte vorm. In deze huiskamer zijn de muren betimmerd met Canadees barnwood, de kleden op de vloer zijn veelkleurig en hip en in de hoge stoelen aan de raamzijde kruip je heerlijk weg. Op één van beide tv-schermen knappert een genoeglijk, maar fake openhaardvuur. De Cubi (het meubel) is een vrijstaande vorm geïnspireerd op ipod en airstream caravan. De Qbickamer zelf meet tenminste 18m². Materialen, vormentaal, kleurgebruik en verlichting zijn een hedendaagse afgeleide van de flower power. Qbic hotels Strawinskylaan 241, C m² Juli 2007 / Juli 2009 lobby Het Qbic, gevestigd in de C-toren, heeft een eigen entree aan het Matthijs Vermeulenpad. Wie daar binnenkomt, waant zich ineens in een andere omgeving dan het WTC. Gebruikte materialen, vormentaal, kleurgebruik en verlichting zijn hedendaags - met een knipoog naar flower power. multifunctioneel De besloten lobby is multifunctioneel ingedeeld. De lange wand herbergt voorzieningen voor eten en drinken, aan de kopse kant wordt het ontbijt geserveerd. The name is a reference to the Cubes: metal structures in each room that resemble four-poster beds, housing luxurious beds as well as other amenities. The Qbic Hotel has a unique, lowcost design concept and a warm atmosphere, and strives to please and surprise its guests. LOBBY Upon exiting the C-Tower lift on the 2 nd floor, just a few steps take the visitor into another world. The lobby of the Qbic Hotel is located behind a dividing structure made of Canadian barnwood. Contemporary materials, forms, colours, and lighting dominate - with a tip of the hat to flower power. MONDAINE The lobby is L-shaped and multifunctional, with one section housing facilities for eating and drinking, and the other serving as a lounge. The lounge s three separate seating areas rest on multicoloured carpets. A TV screen, embedded in the central dividing wall, portrays a cosy though ersatz fireplace. The black wall, with mirrors hung on either side, adds a touch of luxury. The windows are bedecked with bamboo mats and curtains. In the morning, the lighting is bright white, changing to green in the afternoon for a mondaine atmosphere. JAPANESE The corridor leading to the guest rooms has the feel of a Japanese forest. The Cubes inside the room contain a Hästens bed, flat screen TV, designer bathroom and a table: compact comfort. The wall décor features the city of Amsterdam, and varies from room to room. In het verlengde van een pantry met veel functionele inbouwapparatuur en een unit met faxen en printers staat een lange houten tafel. Hier ontmoeten de huurders elkaar informeel. The designers were commissioned to create an efficient layout of superior quality for the total area, including offices and meeting rooms of varying dimensions and an attractive reception area. CONNECTION The reception is located on the 4th level and looks out over the courtyard. These two spaces share a similar ambience. The illuminated, glazed front of the reception desk bears the Regus logo. Square chairs, woven out of pale leather, are placed on each side of the desk. NEUTRAL The idea behind the design was to retain the ambience of the courtyard and reception of the H Tower. Within the multi-tenant H Tower, Regus itself is a multi-tenant company. The reception area reflects the overall atmosphere of the WTC. Grey floor tiles start in the lift hall and extend into the offices. Like the walls and columns in the courtyard, the walls and columns in the Regus offices have metal plinths. The colour pallet matches that of the WTC. The interior windows in the corridors have the same dimensions as the exterior windows. OPENNESS AND PRIVACY The offices and meeting rooms are located on both sides of the reception area. Because the businesses that lease space here desire both openness and privacy, the glazed interior façades display bar codes in matte glass. In the extension of the pantry, containing an abundance of functional built-in equipment and a fax-and-printer station, a long wooden table functions as an informal meeting place for the tenants. Since 2007, Robert Walters has occupied the entire 3 rd floor. The new decor primarily comprises a spacious reception area, comfortable interview rooms and a pleasant workspace for 75 employees. The first impression one has is one of warmth, contemporary design and a corporate feel. The view is undeniably WTC: the interior courtyard with palm trees. CONNECTIONS A glimpse of the back office is visible through glass doors on both sides of the reception desk. The carpet there is greygreen, as it is in the boardrooms - a variation on the darker green in the company logo. The furniture is cleverly grouped into work islands, placed at right angles on the window side. A long, strip of white boards looks like a - functional - decoration. No furniture has been placed against the interior wall. That gives a free overview of the walking path of silver-coloured expona, which contrasts attractively with the carpet. De architect bouwde er een omgeving die past bij een transparante, professionele organisatie, met oog voor de behoefte van de consultants en partners: een rustige werkplek. Verspringende wanden zorgen voor variatie in looprichtingen. Ook wisselen gesloten en open ruimtes elkaar af. Kasten dienen vaak als afscheiding. Soms staan ze op de vloer, soms hangen ze er boven, soms reiken ze tot ooghoogte. De hangende kastwanden hebben een glazen onderkant waardoor ruimtes in elkaar overvloeien. WTC TRANSPARENCY INTERIORS: AND ORIGINAL UNITY AND FAMILIAR Roland Berger Strategy Consultants occupies three levels in the F Tower. The architect created an environment that suited a transparent, professional organisation, while keeping in mind the needs of the consultants and partners: a quiet workplace. A UNIQUE ATMOSPHERE An interior staircase, originating from the 5 th floor reception area, links the three levels. Each floor contains a blend of existing and new elements. Several factors provide unity. The carpet, with its two textures bringing out slight variations in colour, adorns all of the levels. Staggered walls and alternating enclosed and open areas provide variation in sightlines and space. Cabinets placed on the floor, suspended in the air, or at eye level, often serve as dividers. The suspended wall units have glass bases, allowing one space to flow into another. De lunchruimte is open, maar heeft een volstrekt eigen sfeer door inrichting en materialen. Een bijzondere ruimte, alleen al door de ligging onder het golvende dak en grenzend aan een dakterras. De boardroom wordt ge domineerd door een imposante ovalen tafel in geëmailleerd wit glas waarin breuklijnen alle kanten opschieten. Hetzelfde materiaal, nu glad, is gebruikt voor het hoge mediascherm. Drie lichtbakken zorgen voor een op de tafel geconcentreerde verlichting. WTC LIGHT, OPEN INTERIORS: ORIGINAL AND FAMILIAR The work of approximately 70 consultants requires concentration, as well as the possibility to meet one another. The working areas are therefore light and open. Where necessary, glass walls provide additional isolation. Some of the rooms are designated for group work. The walls have a utilitarian function, as they are completely constructed out of whiteboard. EXCEPTIONAL The boardroom is located on the 7 th level. Exceptional in many ways, this room is positioned under the curved roof and adjoining a rooftop patio. An imposing oval table of enamelled white glass, with fault lines shooting out in all directions, dominates the boardroom. The same material, without the lines, was also used for the media screen.
