11 Chapter 10 Curriculum Vitae De auteur van dit proefschrift werd op 28 april 1977 geboren in Gouda. Na het behalen van zijn VWO diploma aan de Goudse Scholengemeenschap in 1995, ging hij biologie studeren aan de Wageningen Universiteit en Research Centrum. In 1998 nam hij één jaar sabbatical waarin hij voltijds bestuurslid was van de Wageningse Studenten Vereniging Ceres. Eind september 2001 rondde hij de doctoraal fase van zijn studie af met twee wetenschappelijke stages uitgevoerd bij het Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong (AAHL; Geelong, Victoria, Australië) en bij het toenmalige Instituut voor Dierhouderij en Diergezondheid (ID-Lelystad). Beide keren betrof het virologisch onderzoek. In november 2001 begon hij aan zijn promotie onderzoek bij de afdeling Pathologie van het VU Medisch Centrum te Amsterdam, wat resulteerde in dit proefschrift. Momenteel is hij werkzaam als post-doc bij deze afdeling. Hij woont in Amsterdam met zijn vriendin Sandra en 2 pluizige huisgenoten, Hompie en Poes. 102
