3 Nederlands: km inland waterways - 1 milion recreational boaters recreational crafts including German, British, Belgium and Scandinavian boaters commercial boats (7.000 NL)

4 The Facts: number of recreational crafts is increasing commercial boats are getting bigger More encounters between commercial ships and recreational boats more dangerous situations increasing sense of safety Increasing number of near misses Registration of accidents not sufficient

5 - ca. 30% of the boaters has a boating license - a lot of boaters do not know the rules on the water or do not follow the rules

6 Boating licences in the Netherlands: Boat >15 m and/or > 20 km/h Boating licence 1 On rivers, canals and lakes Boating licence 2 On all inland waters including Waddensea, Westerschelde, Oosterschelde, Eems and Dollard For boating on the North sea No license is required, just for entering the sea harbours.
