10 Exercise 5: Questions Esmee s sporting ambitions Read the text and the questions. EJOF Europees Jeugd Olympisch Festival Eens in de twee jaar is er het EJOF, het belangrijkste Europese sporttoernooi voor jongeren. Dit jaar is het in de adembenemende Finse stad Tampere en vijfentachtig Nederlanders doen mee. Ze wonen daar in een olympisch dorp. Voor de jonge topsporters is het net als de echte Olympische Spelen, maar wel wat kleiner want de deelnemers komen alleen uit Europa en niet uit de hele wereld. Esmee (13) is supersnel in het water. Op het Nederlands kampioenschap voor junioren won ze vorige maand vijf gouden medailles. Ze zegt: In Nederland ben ik de snelste, maar ik heb nog geen internationale wedstrijden gezwommen en dus weet ik niet hoe goed de buitenlandse tegenstanders zijn. We zijn op trainingskamp naar Italië geweest. Daar hebben we hard getraind. Ik hoop dat ik op de EJOF mijn eigen snelste tijd verbeter. Write brief answers in English. 12 Exercise 6: Questions new invention Read the text and the statements. Lampjesbord Mensen die te dik zijn, eten vaak te snel. ls ze leren om langzamer te eten, vallen ze vaak vanzelf af. Ontwerpers Lisa (25) en Jan (53 jaar) bedachten daarom een bord met lichtjes. Jan vertelt: ls je maag vol zit, duurt het een paar minuten voor je een vol gevoel krijgt. ls je te snel eet, eet je dus door, terwijl je al genoeg hebt. Het denkende bord leert mensen om minder gehaast te eten. ls je een hap neemt, gaan er lichtjes in het bord branden. Pas als de lichtjes uitgaan, mag je de volgende hap nemen. In het bord zit een weegschaal, waardoor het precies weet hoeveel er op ligt. Vooraf kan je instellen wie het bord gaat gebruiken. De snelheid van de lampjes wordt dan aangepast. Dat is handig, want kinderen eten bijvoorbeeld minder veel en minder snel dan volwassenen. Het duurt nog even voor het bord te koop is. Het bedrijf dat het gaat maken, wil eerst nog meer onderzoek doen. Tick ( ) the correct box. 14 Exercise 7: Questions Robin s exciting work experience Read the text and the questions. GILLEN IN DE GOLITH Hij kwam al vier jaar in Walibi World en kende alle attracties op z n duimpje. Zijn favoriet is de Goliath, de hoogste achtbaan van de enelux. Sinds vorig jaar werkt Robin (16) er als attractiemedewerker. En natuurlijk bij de Goliath! Hij moet opletten dat niemand voor z n beurt gaat. ij twijfel moet hij controleren of de passagiers wel groot genoeg zijn. Voor de Goliath is dat 1.40 meter. Robin zocht een vakantiebaantje en toen zijn vriend vertelde dat het bij Walibi World zo leuk was, heeft hij gesolliciteerd. Er werken veel jongeren uit de regio. Een personeelsbus haalt iedereen op en het is altijd dolle pret met alle jongens en meiden in de bus. Robin houdt van het contact met de bezoekers. Ik maak een praatje met ze en vraag of ze een leuke dag hebben en of ze lang hebben moeten wachten. De meeste bezoekers zijn vrolijk en daar word ikzelf ook vrolijk van. Maar sommige bezoekers zijn vervelend en vinden dat zij niet hoeven te wachten. Robin is zelf wel vierhonderd keer in de Goliath geweest. De spanning is wat minder, maar het blijft een kick. Op de hoek van de gracht staat een bestelauto met geopende deuren voor een bakkerswinkel. De smakelijke lucht van vers brood waait ons tegemoet, de chauffeur zegt hallo. We moeten met de trein naar Schiphol om onze dochter en haar vriend af te halen. Ze keren terug van een reis van drie maanden door zië. Een onmogelijke aankomsttijd natuurlijk. Zou iemand gedacht hebben: Wat zou een aardig tijdstip zijn om de dochter van meneer mstel te laten terugkomen? Uurtje of zes, half zeven? Haar vader kan s morgens slecht zijn bed uitkomen. Pak hem. Zelfs op Schiphol is nog bijna geen kip te bekennen. Zou het er veertig, vijftig jaar geleden op een doordeweekse dag buiten het zomerseizoen ook zo hebben uitgezien? Er staan alleen wat afhalers voor de deuren in de aankomsthal. Daar zijn ze dan eindelijk. Ze zien er blond, blij en bruin uit. ls iedereen elkaar begroet heeft, lopen we naar het restaurant. We gaan aan dezelfde tafel van drie maanden geleden zitten. Ik vraag me af of ze heimwee naar Nederland hebben gehad. omplete the sentences briefly in Dutch.
