2 S C AFV MEA PSL Welkom bij het Petrus Camper Festival! Het selecteert zijn studenten uit de top tien procent van iedere faculteit. Het honoursprogramma is dan ook bedoeld voor studenten die een uitdaging zoeken, initiatief tonen, willen uitblinken en over grenzen heen willen kijken. Aan hen biedt het verdiepende en verbredende modules, aandacht voor persoonlijke ontwikkeling, summerschools en een platform voor honoursstudenten om andere gemotiveerde studenten te ontmoeten. Het Petrus Camper Festival is het afsluitende onderdeel van de Petrus Camper Leergang, een van de verbredende onderdelen van het honoursprogramma. Het is de laatste activiteit die studenten doen voordat ze Petrus Camper ( ) was een afstuderen. De Petrus Camper Leergang beoogt Honours College studenten te leren huidige wetenschappelijke veelzijdig geleerde, geïnteresseerd in en maatschappelijke problemen vanuit verschillende architectuur, tekenen, politiek, kunst, invalshoeken te benaderen en te vertalen naar een visie meubel maken en wiskunde. Hij was voor de toekomst. De Leergang bestaat uit een kennisdeel, hoogleraar theoretische geneeskunde, een vaardighedendeel (academisch schrijven, effectief anatomie, chirurgie en botanie aan samenwerken en debatteren) en een deel dat gericht is op de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Hij persoonlijke ontwikkeling (zelfkennis en zelfreflectie). De Penning wordt uitgereikt aan alle bachelor honoursstudenten die het bachelor honoursprogramma hebben afgerond, of het naar verwachting voor 31 augustus 2015 te zullen afronden. Daarbij gaat het om zowel het verdiepende als het verbredende deel van het bachelor honoursprogramma. Daarna is er een fotomoment op de trap van het Academiegebouw, met aansluitend een borrel. Later op de avond wordt door HCSA een gala georganiseerd. We hopen dat u een mooie dag zult hebben en samen met ons het succes van het Honours Cohort wilt vieren! The Honours programme is meant for students who enjoy a challenge, show initiative, want to excel and look beyond boundaries. In return, the Honours College provides deepening and broadening course units, personal development training, summer schools and an overall platform for honours students to meet fellow motivated students who would like to make a difference. The Petrus Camper Festival is the closing activity in the Petrus Camper Track, which is part of the broadening course units of the. It is the final activity students undertake before they graduate. The Petrus Camper Track teaches Honours students to approach current scientific and social problems from different perspectives and to translate this into a vision for the future. The Track consists of a deepening knowledge component, a skills component and a personal development component. Together, these components encompass academic writing, coaching, self-reflection, debating, personal leadership and more. For the Petrus Camper Festival, students have prepared all sorts of activities in which they will give you insights into their final research projects for the. In the afternoon you can experience several interesting and interactive activities organized by Honours students. The topics range from sustainabililty to academic freedom. There is also an opportunity to take a guided tour through the Academy Building or to visit the Poster Gallery with poster presentations by Honours students. After these activities, the festive graduation ceremony for invitees begins with a plenary session in the auditorium (Aula), where there will be some speeches. Afterwards, the Medals will be awarded by the faculty coordinators to their own honours students in the various faculty rooms. The Medal is awarded to all Honours Bachelor students who have completed the Honours Bachelor programme, or are expected to have completed it before August 31, 2015 (the deepening as well as the broadening part of the Honours Bachelor programme). After the ceremony there is a photo opportunity on the stairs of the Academy Building, and there are drinks afterwards. Later in the evening, HCSA organizes a gala. We hope you will enjoy the programme and have a wonderful day celebrating the success of the Cohort! Warm regards, Hanny Elzinga, dean & Petrus Camper Festival Team Petrus Camper ( ) was a versatile scholar, interested in architecture, art, politics, furniture making and mathematics. He was professor of theoretical medicine, anatomy, surgery and botany at the University of Groningen. He tried to give his students the best possible training. Camper was one of the most famous Dutch scientists of the eighteenth century. His contemporary Goethe described him as a meteor of spirit, science, talent and activity We felt it to be appropriate naming the Petrus Camper Track after him as this Track focusses on the broadening of a student s development.

3 S C AFV MEA PSL P R E S E N T A E & D I S C U S S I E Children s rights in health care Winterschool & Atelier Tijdens de Engelstalige Winterschool Children s Rights in Health Care hebben de deelnemende studenten, afkomstig van verschillende opleidingen (t.w. Economie/ International Business, Psychologie, Rechtsgeleerdheid en Wiskunde) zich vanuit kinderrechtelijk oogpunt verdiept in de positie van de minderjarige in de gezondheidszorg. Wat is de kwaliteit van de reguliere kindergeneeskunde? Welke rechten hebben kinderen die deelnemen aan medisch-wetenschappelijk onderzoek? Wat zijn de uitdagingen waar kinderrechtenorganisaties (UNICEF, St. Kind & Ziekenhuis, Herman van Veen Foundation, DCI) zich mee geconfronteerd zien? Dit soort onderwerpen zijn aan de hand van lezingen, video-discussies, excursies en opdrachten onderzocht. Voor het Petrus Camper Festival gaat een selectie van de studenten illustrerend in op de rechtszaak uit Ian McEwans roman The Children Act en de bijbehorende knelpunten en problemen bediscussiëren met het publiek. K O R T E L E Z I N G E N Academische vrijheid en de MOOCs Winterschool & Atelier Academische vrijheid is de vrijheid van docenten en studenten om te doceren, studeren en kennis en onderzoek na te streven zonder onredelijke bemoeienis of beperking door wet, voorschrift of publieke druk. Maar wat als een geleerde gevaar loopt vanwege het uiten van zijn of haar mening? Wat als onze kinderen een andere versie van de geschiedenis leren dan de waarheid? Wat als de private sector zich gaat bemoeien met onderzoek? Het atelier over Academische vrijheid geeft in verschillende korte lezingen een overzicht van Academische vrijheid en behandelt onder andere deze vragen met name met betrekking tot MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Daarbij presenteren studenten het Freedom Magazine: een speciale editie over Academisch vrijheid. P R E S E N T A O N & D I S C U S S I O N Children s rights in health care Winter school & Atelier During the winter school Children s Rights in Health Care students of various programmes (i.e.economics/ International Business, Psychology, Law and Mathematics) have dealt with the position of minors in health care from a children s rights perspective. What is the quality of pediatric care? What rights do children have as subjects of medical research? What are the challenges encountered by children s rights interest groups such as UNICEF, St. Kind & Ziekenhuis, Herman van Veen Foundation, DCI? These subjects have been investigated through lectures, video discussions, excursions, and assignments. At the Petrus Camper Festival a selection of students will illustrate the legal case described in Ian McEwan s novel The Children Act and discuss it with the audience. M I N I L E C T U R E S Academic freedom and MOOCs Winter school & Atelier Academic freedom is the freedom of teachers and students to teach, study, and pursue knowledge and research without unreasonable interference or restriction from law, institutional regulations, or public pressure. But what if an academic is endangered because of expressing his or her opinion? What if our children are being taught another version of history apart from the truth? What if the private sector interferes with research? The atelier about Academic Freedom provides in multiple mini lectures an overview of Academic Freedom and addresses these questions and more with specific regard to MOOCs (massive open online course). Students will also present the Freedom Magazine: a special edition about Academic freedom. 4 5

Summerschool & Atelier Parijs: Social Aspects of Sustainability De studenten van van de RUG en de George Washington Law School in de Verenigde Staten hebben gezamenlijk onderzoek verricht op het gebied van Renewable Energy & Networks. Vanuit een rechtsvergelijkend US-EU perspectief zijn artikelen geschreven over Liability for Damages caused by Nonconforming Biogas Quality, Improving regulation in order to facilitate electricity storage batteries, Regulating offshore wind energy and export cables en Smart grid: the energy networks of tomorrow. Dit onderzoek zal gepresenteerd worden in de vorm van posterpresentaties en een filmpje tijdens het Petrus Camper Festival. P O S T P R E S E N T A O N S Energy law: route to renewability Summer school & Atelier Washington: Renewable energy and networks The students from the of the University of Groningen have been conducting joint research with students from the George Washington Law School in the US. Within the theme of Renewable Energy & Networks students have focused on four topics from a US and EU perspective: Liability for Damages caused by Nonconforming Biogas Quality, Improving regulation in order to facilitate electricity storage batteries, Regulating offshore wind energy and export cables and Smart grid: the energy networks of tomorrow. The outcome of this joint research will be presented at the Petrus Camper Festival. Daarnaast kun je ontdekken wat de invloed is van je vrienden op jouw energieverbruik en je maakt kans op één van de mooie duurzame prijzen! Summer school & Atelier Paris: Social Aspects of Sustainability Saving energy (e.g. by unplugging your devices) can save money and helps save the environment. It can even be beneficial for your devices and help society. However, which of these messages do people care about the most? And how does this influence their energy saving behavior? Visit our playground and participate in the game to test which message you find important and how this influences your energy use. You will also find out how your friends may influence your energy use and perhaps you are one of the lucky ones to win a sustainable price! 6 7

Summerschool & Atelier Berlijn: Self-Enhancement Transhumanism In de huidige maatschappij is er een grote druk op individuen om uit te blinken in meerdere gebieden. Iedereen heeft gehoord van doping in de sport, maar de druk om te presteren is ook prominent onder studenten. Dit leidt tot het gebruik van middelen om prestaties te verbeteren. Wat voor gevolgen heeft deze trend op de korte termijn en wat zijn de gevolgen voor de toekomst? Zal het mensen in toenemende mate aanzetten tot self-enhancement? Wat zijn de mogelijke voordelen en wat zijn de kosten? Tijdens het Atelier is dit thema vanuit verschillende invalshoeken verkend. Er werd specifiek ingegaan op de toepassing van Ritalin als self-enhancement in de academische wereld. Van de resultaten van het onderzoek is een website en een documentaire gemaakt, die onder andere bovenstaande vragen zullen toelichten. Summer school & Atelier Berlin: Self-Enhancement Transhumanism In today s society, there is great pressure on individuals to excel in multiple areas. Everyone has heard of doping in sports but the pressure to perform is also prominent among students, leading to the use of various drugs to enhance performance. What kind of consequences does this trend have, at short term but also for the future? Will it compel more and more people to self-enhancement? What are the benefits, and what are the costs? During the Atelier this theme has been explored from different perspectives, specifically on the use of Ritalin as self-enhancement in academia. This research has been compiled into a website and a documentary addressing these questions and more. Faculteit Medische Wetenschappen Faculty of Medical Sciences I N T A C E V E A C V I T E I T Orgaantransplantatie. Donorschap: ja of nee? Winterschool & Atelier Tijdens verschillende bezoeken aan het UMCG transplantatie team en aan Eurotransplant (de Europese organisatie voor verdeling, logistiek en beschikbaarheid van organen) in Leiden werden studenten geconfronteerd met diverse dilemma s tijdens orgaantransplantaties. In het UMCG hebben de deelnemers vanuit het observatorium een niertransplantatie bijgewoond en het verloop van de operatie besproken met de chirurg tijdens het uitvoeren van de transplantatie. Daarna introduceerden verscheidene sprekers problemen en mogelijkheden van orgaantransplantatie, het succes van hart-, longen- en niertransplantaties en methoden voor vermindering van orgaanfalen, evenals de ethische kwesties met betrekking tot orgaandonatie. Tijdens het festival van vandaag presenteren de studenten hun bevindingen en geven hun daaropvolgende aanbevelingen voor toekomstige levende donor niertransplantaties. I N T A C V E A C V I T Y Organ transplantation. Being a donor: yes or no? Winter school & Atelier During several site visits to the UMCG transplantation team and to Eurotransplant (the European organization for distribution, logistics and availability of organs) in Leiden, students were confronted with the dilemma s faced during organ transplantations. In the UMCG the participants witnessed a kidney transplantation from the teaching observatory and discussed the progress of the surgery with the surgeon performing the transplant. Afterwards several speakers introduced problems and possibilities of organ transplantation, the success of heart, lung and kidney transplants, and methods for reduction of organ failure, as well as the ethical issues related to organ donation. During today s festival the students will present their findings and subsequent recommendations for future living donor kidney transplantations. 8 9

Summerschool & Atelier Geneve: Op de grenzen van de wetenschap Faculty of Arts Stap binnen in Rome.. In deze Grand Tour nemen de studenten u mee op een tocht door de Eeuwige Stad, van de klassieke oudheid tot Mussolini. Iedere groep heeft zich over een of meer kunstwerken en monumenten in Rome ontfermd, van triomfbogen en catacomben, tot schilderijen en kerken. Zij stelden zich daarbij de vraag hoe een (kunst)werk een oplossing bood voor een specifiek probleem in de tijd waarin het gemaakt werd. Bent u geïnteresseerd in Italië, Rome of gewoon nieuwsgierig waarom die rare boog gemaakt is? Kom langs en krijg alle antwoorden! G R A N D T O U R The Grand Tour of Rome through the ages Summer school & Atelier Rome Enter Rome.. In this Grand Tour students will take you through the Eternal City, from ancient times to Mussolini. Each group has explored one or more monuments in Rome, from triumphal arches and catacombs, to paintings and churches, in order to answer the question why this specific monument was created in its time and to what problem it might have been the solution. Piazza Augusto Imperatore Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Bij het CERN, Europese organisatie voor Nucleair onderzoek, zijn natuurkundigen en ingenieurs bezig met het ontrafelen van de fundamentele structuur van het heelal. Zij maken gebruik van s werelds grootste en meest complexe wetenschappelijke instrumenten om de bouwstenen van de materie te bestuderen - de fundamentele deeltjes. Hier worden deeltjes met grote snelheid, bijna de lichtsnelheid, op elkaar gebotst. De processen die dan optreden geven de natuurkundigen aanwijzingen over hoe de wisselwerking is tussen de verschillende deeltjes en inzichten in de fundamentele wetten van de natuur. Bij CERN zijn de studenten geïnspireerd geraakt om het grotere publiek te laten weten wat de wetenschap eigenlijk doet voor de gewone man. Vandaar het thema Wetenschappelijke spin-offs: welke technologieën gebruik jij?. Twee studenten lopen rond met tablets: beantwoord de vragen en test je kennis! Wie heeft hier meer kennis over, mannen of vrouwen? De resultaten worden real-time op schermen in het Academiegebouw gepresenteerd. G A M E Science spin-offs: which technologies do you use in daily life? Summer school & Atelier Geneva: At the Frontiers of Science At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world s largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together, at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. At CERN the students became inspired to tell people more about what science does for the average Joe. Therefore the theme Science spin-offs: Which technologies do you use in daily life?. Two students will walk around with tablets, answer the questions and test your knowledge! Who has more knowledge about this theme, men or women? The results will be presented real-time on screens in the Academy building

8 S C AFV MEA PSL Faculteit Godgeleerdheid en Godsdienstwetenschap Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies I N T A C E V E L O P E N D E P R E S E N T A E Religie en globalisering Summerschool & Atelier Lissabon: Religion and the Public Domain Religie wordt steeds belangrijker in de actualiteit en het dagelijks leven over de hele wereld. Deze presentatie is ontstaan uit de verbredende module en summerschool Religion and the Public Domain, waarbij onderzoeksresultaten van vier verschillende projecten worden gepresenteerd. De vier projecten verkennen religie en haar verbinding met verschillende thema s en groepen mensen over de hele wereld. De vier verschillende projecten zijn: 1. Religie en politiek: studenten hebben onderzoek uitgevoerd in twee verschillende groepen om meer te leren over de mening van mensen over de scheiding van kerk en staat. 2. Religie en evangelisatie: één van de projecten heeft de verschillen en overeenkomsten van evangelisatie in drie verschillende kerken onderzocht. 3. Religie en geslacht: dit project heeft de rol van religie in kledingkeuzes van vrouwen over de hele wereld onderzocht. 4. Religie en internationale studenten ervaringen: dit project heeft onderzocht of uitwisseling van een student naar een land met andere religieuze tradities de mening en ervaring met betrekking tot religie van die student verandert. I N T A C V E W A L K I N G P R E S E N T A O N S Religion and globalization Summer school & Atelier Lisbon: Religion and the Public Domain Religion is becoming more and more significant in current affairs and public life all over the world. This presentation emerges out of the broadening module and summer school Religion and the Public Domain, presenting research findings from four different projects exploring religion and its interconnection with different issues and groups of people from around the globe. The four research projects are: 1. Religion and Politics: students conducted surveys in two different hemispheres to find out more on people s opinion on the separation of church and state. 2. Religion and Evangelism: one project explored the differences and similarities of the practice of evangelism in three different churches. 3. Religion and gender: this project researched the role of religion in female clothing choices over the world. 4. Religion and International Student Experiences: this project investigated whether a student exchange to a country with different religious traditions changes a student s view and experience of religion. Faculteit Rechtsgeleerdheid Faculty of Law D E B A T Revolutie! Probleem opgelost? Herinrichting van het politieke systeem Summerschool & Atelier Krakau en Warschau: Constructing a Polity Zoals onlangs is gebleken zijn revoluties niets slechts gebeurtenissen uit het verleden. De Arabische Lente heeft laten zien dat volksopstanden tegen onrechtvaardige regimes nog altijd voorkomen. Zij heeft ons ook laten zien dat opstand zelf, in zekere zin, het makkelijke deel is. Iedere postrevolutionaire constitutie moet een nieuw evenwicht vinden tussen de belangrijkste overheidsorganen en tussen de overheid en de samenleving. Die balans moet in ieder geval gevonden worden tussen vertrouwen en wantrouwen en tussen het in staat stellen van overheidsorganen om effectief te besturen aan de ene kant en het ontwerpen van de juiste checks and balances die machtsmisbruik tegengaan aan de andere kant. Welke dilemma s spelen er bij het ontwerpen van een postrevolutionaire constitutie? Dit is onderzocht bij dit Atelier en zal besproken worden tijdens een debat. D E B A T E Revolution! Problem solved? Rebuilding the political system Summer school & Atelier Kraków and Warsaw: Constructing a Polity As we have seen in recent times, revolutions are not things of the past. The Arabic Spring has seen multiple popular uprisings against unjust regimes. However, it has also shown us that, in a way, the uprising itself is the easy part. Any post-revolutionary constitution must strike a new balance between the major constitutional organs and between the government and society. This means striking a balance between, at least, trust and distrust and between giving governmental organs the power to govern and designing checks and balances that prevent the abuse of power. With which dilemma s do you have to deal when designing a post-revolutionary constitution? This has been researched during this Atelier and will be discussed during a debate

Summerschool & Atelier Waddenzee: Sustainable Islands Think globally, act locally is een goede samenvatting van wat er in het atelier sustainable islands is behandeld. Na een introductiecursus over de breedte van het begrip duurzaamheid en een summerschool waarbij de duurzaamheidsambities van de Waddeneilanden verkend is, zijn er een aantal onderwerpen uitgediept die vandaag gepresenteerd worden. Deze onderwerpen zijn het enthousiast maken van de bevolking van Schiermonnikoog voor een energie-coöperatie, de rol van gas in de energietransitie, toegespitst op mogelijke gaswinning op Terschelling, de toekomst van elektrische auto s op Terschelling en een conceptuele invulling van een Oerolduurzaamheidscentrum eveneens op Terschelling. Hoe breng je duurzaamheid in de praktijk en hoe maak je het zichtbaar? Kom langs en ontdek het tijdens mini lezingen, verschillende activiteiten en een tentoonstelling! Summer school & Atelier Waddenzee: Sustainable Islands Think globally, act locally is an adequate summary of what students have been doing in the atelier sustainable islands. Following an introductory course on the many perspectives on sustainability and a summer school where they explored the sustainability ambitions of the Wadden Islands, they selected a few issues that are presented. These issues address motivating the population of Schiermonnikoog to join the new local energy cooperation, the role of natural gas in the energy transition, specifically focusing at the possible drilling operation on Terschelling, the future of electric cars on Terschelling and a conceptual plan for an Oerol-sustainability center, also on Terschelling. How can you practice sustainability and how to make sustainability visible? Visit and find out during mini lectures, activities and an exhibition! Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde Faculty of Economics and Business Specialisatie traject Het specialisatietraject van de Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde is een alternatieve keuze binnen het honours bachelor programma, waarin sommige verbredende modules worden vervangen door op maat gemaakte en op inhoud gerichte vakken en/of opdrachten. De doelgroep voor deze variant zijn studenten die zich graag willen specialiseren binnen een bepaald deelgebied van de Economie en/of Bedrijfskunde. Studenten worden gekoppeld aan een hoogleraar/onderzoeker die de student individueel begeleidt op een gespecialiseerd onderwerp. P U B Q U I Z In groepen van 3-4 personen ga je de competitie aan en probeer je in verschillende rondes zo veel mogelijk vragen correct te beantwoorden. P O S T P R E S E N T A E Microfinance in the Aftermath of a Natural Disaste Zijn leden van een microfinance organisatie beter in staat om te herstellen van een natuurramp dan niet leden? Leden en niet leden van een bepaalde regio in India die in 2013 getroffen was door een cycloon zijn met elkaar vergeleken. Daarnaast zijn leden en niet leden met elkaar vergeleken in een regio waarin dezelfde microfinance organisatie actief is, maar die niet getroffen is door de cycloon. Hieruit blijkt dat de huishoudens die lid zijn van de microfinance organisaties beter in staat zijn om te herstellen dan de niet leden. Echter, het blijkt ook dat in het niet getroffen gebied leden het beter doen dan niet leden. Specialization Track The Specialisation Track at the Faculty of Economics and Business is an alternative choice within the Honours Bachelor Program, where some of the regular broadening modules are replaced with tailormade and content-based courses and/or assignments. It is aimed at those students who want to specialize themselves in a certain field of Business and/or Economics. Students in this track are assigned to a professor/researcher who individually supervises the student on a specialized topic. P U B Q U I Z In groups of 3-4 people you will compete against each other and try to answer different kinds of questions subdivided into rounds. P O S T P R E S E N T A O N Microfinance in the Aftermath of a Natural Disaster Are members of a microfinance institution (MFI) better able to cope with a natural disaster than non-members? Students compared members and non-members in a region of India which has been hit by a cyclone in In addition, they used members and non-members in a region unaffected by the cyclone as an extra control group. It shows that MFI members are better able to cope with a natural disaster than non-members. However, it also shows that the members outperform the non-members in the unaffected region

Summer school & Atelier Brussels: Argumentation and Deliberation In this Atelier, students developed a design for dispute resolution that aims to enhance the quality of political argumentation, and tested these designs on high school and university students. Do you want to learn how to get your point across in a clear and concise way? And are you interested in active and engaging discussions? Come and learn how to best formulate your opinions, as well as put them directly to the test in deliberations. This workshop promises to be a fun learning experience for all! Faculteit Wijsbegeerte Faculty of Philosophy Specialisatie traject Honours Programma in Filosofie Het Honours Programma in Filosofie is een programma voor getalenteerde studenten met een bijzondere interesse in de Filosofie. Het biedt studenten een brede en verdiepende inleiding in de belangrijkste thema s van de Westerse Filosofie en de Filosofie van hun eigen wetenschapsgebied. Tijdens deze bijeenkomst zullen studenten van het Honours Programma in Filosofie laten zien dat Filosofie meer is dan slechts één van de vele abstracte wetenschappelijke disciplines. Filosofie is namelijk ook een manier om concrete problemen uit het dagelijkse leven te verhelderen. Q U I Z Welke filosoof ben jij? Filosofische dilemma s in het dagelijks leven Aan de hand van een twintigtal vragen over hedendaagse ethische dilemma s, zoals vluchtelingen en natuurrampen, kan het publiek bepalen tot welke filosofische stroming hij of zij behoort. Na afloop van de quiz is er tijd voor vragen en discussie. Daarnaast kan het publiek aan de hand van filosofische stellingen en met behulp van post-its hun mening uiten en is er een filosofische quote test. Specialization Track Honours Programme in Philosophy The Honours Programme in Philosophy is a programme for talented students with a specific interest in Philosophy. It offers students a broad and in-depth introduction to the main areas of Western Philosophy and the Philosophy of their own field. In this session, graduating students from the Honours Programme in Philosophy will show that Philosophy is not just one among many scientific disciplines which deals with highly abstract theory, but rather a method to clarify very concrete dilemmas in our daily lives. Q U I Z Which philosopher are you? Philosophical Dilemmas in Daily Life The quiz will consist of 20 questions, all concerning ethical dilemmas of current times, such as refugees or earthquake charity. Participants will be able to calculate their score, which corresponds with a certain philosophical movement within ethical philosophy, such as utilitarianism, kathian ethics, nihilism, etcetera. Afterwards there is room for discussion and questions. In addition, you can do a philosophical quotes test, and respond to statements by writing your ideas on a post it

11 honours college Faculteit Ruimtelijke Wetenschappen HCSA PRESENTATIE & DEBAT The Urban: a debate on inequality and homelessness in the city Social Association Summerschool & Atelier New York: Het verkennen van de post-seculaire stad In dit Atelier ligt de focus op de daklozenkwestie: hoe zien we een verschil in aanpak tussen Nederland en de Verenigde Staten terug en wat voor inspiratie kunnen we halen uit het Amerikaanse model? Er waren drie centrale doelstellingen: (1) het kritisch onderzoeken van het concept post-seculair in relatie tot het omgaan met religieuze diversiteit en de rol van het op geloof gebaseerde organisaties (FBOs) bij de aanpak van sociale onrechtvaardigheden in steden; (2) het internationaal onderzoeken van deze inzichten via ervaringen tijdens de Summer School (New York) en Atelier (Groningen); en (3) het in verband brengen van deze nieuwe kennis en ervaringen met de kernvragen van verstedelijking die ter sprake zijn gekomen tijdens de verbredende module The Urbanization Question. Aan de hand van verschillende theorieën over urbanisatie werd de hoofdvraag onderzocht, de resultaten zullen tijden het Petrus Camper Festival gepresenteerd worden. Faculty of Spatial Sciences PRESENTATION & DEBATE The Urban: a debate on inequality and homelessness in the city Summer school & Atelier New York: Exploring the post-secular city This Atelier has a focus on the issue of homelessness: what is the difference in treatment between the US and the Netherlands and what can we learn from the comparison between the two? There were three central objectives, to: (1) examine critically the concept of post-secular in relation to dealing with religious diversity and the role of faithbased organizations (FBOs) in tackling social injustices in cities; (2) scrutinize these insights internationally via experiences during the Summer School (New York City) and Atelier (Groningen); and (3) relate this new awareness to core questions of urbanization addressed during The Urbanization Question broadening module. Based on different theories on urbanization, the main question was researched.
