2 Spanje / Spain - Por tugal Spaarzaam, secuur & snel Algemeen Met 40 miljoen inwoners is Spanje qua BNP het vijfde belangrijkste land van de EU. In de periode steeg de jaarlijkse industriële productie met gemiddeld 2,1 %. Het opleidingsniveau van de bevolking neemt gestaag toe en alleen de relatief hoge werkloosheidsgraad vraagt nog veel aandacht. Een aantrekkelijk beleid voor buitenlandse investeringen zorgt voor de verdere industrialisatie en de uitbouw van exportactiviteiten. De binnenlandse consumptie wordt aangewakkerd door meer dan 50 miljoen toeristen jaarlijks. Portugal, met ca. 10 miljoen inwoners, ervaart door de trage groei van de arbeidsproductiviteit meer aanpassingsproblemen aan de Europese concurrentie (net als Spanje in 1986 toegetreden tot de EU).Voor de periode heeft de EU Portugal een structurele hulp toegezegd van 25 miljard euro voor investeringsprojecten i.v.m.infrastructuur en transport,informatiemaatschappij, milieu- en gezondheidszorg. lading vinden we ruwe materialen, petroleumproducten, staal, woud- en landbouwproducten. Door het bestaande trafiekniveau liggen een uitstekende frequentie, regelmaat en betrouwbaarheid binnen handbereik.de markt is een boeiende staalkaart van alle vormen van shortsea-shipping: container- en feederdiensten, roroverschepingen,droge bulkvaart en tankschepen. De transittijden van en naar het Iberisch schiereiland via de shortsea-verbindingen zijn bovendien competitief met een doortocht via de weg door Frankrijk. 4 Traffic short sea - general import/export For the Belgian ports, both Spain and Portugal are important markets. On a yearly basis, sea transportation with Spain represents some 3 million tons, of which 1.2 million import from and 1.8 million export to Spain. Both with the maritime import and export,the composition of goods is diverse, with a strong presence of container and RORO-loadings.Among the incoming cargo we find raw materials, oil products, steel, wood and agricultural products. To Spain,next to vehicles and container goods also fertilisers, oil products, chemicals and (semi) finished products are shipped.in value, the vehicles represent 27.5% of the Belgian export to Spain,which as a whole represents 265 million BEF. It made from Spain our 7th export partner in Also with the import the vehicles (25.2%) in value represent the most important traffic on a total of almost 126 billion BEF (10th supplier of Belgium in 99). Portugal yearly exchanges a maritime cargo of 1.2 million ton with the Belgian ports. About 30% of this tonnage had to do with unloading and 70% with loading. Also steel loadings, containers, petrol derivatives, fertilisers, minerals and nutrition products are amongst the export products to Portugal (17th export market of Belgium in 1999). Concerning import,container and RORO-goods are dominant with oil products and chemicals as additional products. In value, electric machines (28.4%) and vehicles (25.3%) represented more than half of the import traffic from Portugal, which amounted to 38.7 billion BEF in 1999 (20th supplier of Belgium). Preceding data illustrate that short sea shipping with the Iberian Peninsula is developed well. Because of the existing traffic level, a perfect frequency, regularity and reliability are within reach.the market is an interesting sampling of all forms of short sea shipping:container and feeder services, RORO-services, dry bulk transportation and tankers. The transit times from and to the Iberian Peninsula through short sea connections are above all competitive with the passage by road through France.
