Bij levering is de elektrode aangesloten op het instrument en kan men direkt meten. Wanneer de elektrode losgekoppeld wordt van het instrument, moet na aansluiting de elektrode 10 min. polariseren en moet de meter opnieuw geijkt worden. 1. Spoel de elektrode met gedestilleerd water en droog hem af. 2. Plaats de elektrode in de te meten vloeistof en roer voorzichtig (± 0,5 mtr/sec). 3. De elektrode moet de zelfde temperatuur aannemen als de vloeistof. Lees dus eerst de temperatuur af tot deze een stabiele waarde heeft aangenomen. Houdt hiervoor de " C" ingedrukt. 4. Het instrument is geijkt in "%". Er kan dus alleen maar in "%" afgelezen worden door de "%" toets in te drukken. Voor aflezing in mg/l (gelijk aan ppm) moet het instrument eerst geijkt worden op mg/l. Wacht tot de meting stabiel is alvorens af te lezen. Dit kan ca. 5 min duren. 5..Om betrouwbare meetresultaten te krijgen, dient het instrument regelmatig geijkt te worden. 1.3 IJken Voor het ijken van het instrument op 0% moet een oplossing aangemaakt worden van 2% Natriumpyrosulfit (20gr/l gedestilleerd water). Deze poeder is in de koffer bijgeleverd. Deze oplossing dient ±15 minuten voor het ijken aangemaakt te worden en daarna gelijk gebruikt te worden. LEES EERST HET ETIKET VAN DE NATRIUMPYROSULFIT AANDACHTIG VOOR GEBRUIK!!! 1. Spoel de elektrode in gedestilleerd water en maak hem droog. 2. Roer de opnemer in de 2% natriumpyrosulfit oplossing. 3. Druk op de "%" toets en wacht tot de afgelezen waarde stabiel is geworden. 2

4 Indien er in mg/l gemeten moet worden, dient de "mg/l" toets ingedrukt te worden. 4. Stel nu de 0% of 0mg/l in met de stelschroef "Z" aan de zijkant van het instrument. 5. Spoel de elektrode schoon met gedestilleerd water en droog hem af. Voor het instellen van 100% of het maximale aantal mg/l is gedestilleerd water nodig dat verzadigd is met lucht. Dit is te verkrijgen door in 1 liter water een pompje te hangen en deze ±20 minuten lucht in het water te laten pompen. 1. Spoel de elektrode met gedestilleerd water en droog hem af. 2. Plaats de elektrode in het met lucht doorborrelde gedestilleerde water en roer voorzichtig (±0,5m/s, magneetroerder). 3. Controleer of de temperatuur stabiel is door de " C" ingedrukt te houden. 4. Als het instrument in mg/l geijkt moet worden, controleer dan op een barometer wat de luchtdruk is en zoek de bijbehorende waarde in mg/l op in de tabel op blz. 10 bij de afgelezen temperatuur. 5. Wacht tot de waarde stabiel is en stel deze dan op 100% of het maximale aantal mg/l uit de tabel in met stelschroef "S" aan de zijkant van het instrument. 6. Indien het instrument geijkt is op "%" dan kan er niet gemeten worden in mg/l. De meter moet hiervoor in mg/l geijkt worden. 7. Droog de elektrode af. BEWAAR HET INSTRUMENT OP EEN DROGE PLAATS!!! 1.4 Vervangen membraan Indien de aflezingen niet meer stabiel en accuraat zijn dan moet het membraan in de elektrode worden vernieuwd. Zie hiervoor ook de tekeningen op blz Schroef het voorgedeelte van de elektrode en laat het elektrolyt er uit lopen. 2. Verwijder de beschermkap. 3. Verwijder het membraan en reinig de elektrode onderdelen. 4. Plaats het nieuwe membraan over het tussendeel en druk de beschermkap voorzichtig over het membraan. 5. Snij overvloedig membraan af. 6. Vul het voorgedeelte volledig met elektrolyt en schroef het voorgedeelte weer op de elektrode. 7. IJk het instrument opnieuw. 3

5 1.5 Opmerkingen - De nulinstelling van de zuurstofopnemer is zeer stabiel, de maximum afwijking per maand of langere perioden bedraagt ± 0,3mg/l. - Na het vernieuwen van het membraan en het elektrolyt moet altijd weer geijkt worden. Het aantal geadviseerde ijkingen met de Natriumpyrosulfit oplossing kan worden gedaan op de 1e, 2 en 3e dag, daarna de 15e dag en dan als vaste regel elke maand. Op deze manier is het instrument en de opneemcel optimaal geijkt. - Bij de nulinstelling is een afwijking van 5ppm acceptabel. het is niet nodig de nulinstelling vaak te herhalen. De Natriumpyrosulfit oplossing dient vlak voor het ijken te worden gemengd met gedestilleerd water in een 2% verhouding. De bewaartijd van deze oplossing is maximaal 1 maand, indien de bewaarfles goed wordt afgesloten en in het donker wordt bewaard. Beter is echter om elke ijking een nieuwe oplossing te maken door 1 liter gedestilleerd water te mengen met 20gr. natriumpyrosulfit. - Als hoofdregel voor het ijken van de nul geldt dat een opneemcel binnen 60 seconden de nul moet bereiken in de natriumpyrosulfit oplossing. - Indien de opneemcel in het monstervat wordt bewogen met een roersnelheid tussen 0,3 en 0,7 m/s, zal er op dat moment ook zuurstof in het monstervat worden gebracht door de roerbeweging. Bij weinig monsterwater (bijv. 100cc) zal deze beweging een grotere invloed hebben dan een bij volume van 1 liter. Daarom wordt een volume van minimaal 1 liter aanbevolen, liefst nog groter. Ook de opening van het monstervat is van invloed. Hoe groter het oppervlak is hoe meer zuurstof zich kan vermengen met het monsterwater ten opzichte van een klein oppervlak zoals bij een nauwhalsfles. - Om het monsterwater optimaal te roeren wordt een magneetroerder aanbevolen. Met de hand is ook mogelijk, dit vergt echter meer handelingen van u zelf. - Het membraan en de vulvloeistof dient te worden vervangen indien de nulinstelling traag is. Het membraan en de vulvloeistof blijven 5 à 6 maanden bruikbaar. Het is mogelijk dat deze een langere periode bruikbaar blijven. Dit kan op de bovengenoemde wijze gecontroleerd worden. - De natriumpyrosulfit poeders en magneetroerders zijn bij Nieuwkoop BV of uw leverancier verkrijgbaar. 4

The instrument will be supplied with the electrode connected to the instrument. The instrument is ready for use. When the electrode will be disconnected, the electrode has to polarise for at least 10 minutes after connection, and the instrument has to be recalibrated. 1. Clean the electrode with distilled water and make it dry. 2. Place the electrode into the sample water and stir carefully (± 0,5 mtr/sec). 3. The electrode has to get the same temperature as the sample water. Read the temperature value until this has become stable by keeping the " C" button pushed. 4. The instrument is calibrated in "%", so it is only possible to measure in "%". by pushing the "%" button. For measurements in mg/l (is equal to ppm) the instrument has to be calibrated in mg/l. Wait until the readout is stable before measurement. This could take ca. 5 minutes. 5..In order to get reliable measurements, the instrument has to be calibrated regularly. 2.3 Calibration For calibration of 0% a solution need to be made of 2% sodiumbisulfite (20gr/l distilled water). This powder is included in the case. The solution need to be made 15 minutes before calibration and need to be used immediately. BEFORE USE FIRSTLY READ THE LABEL OF THE SODIUMBISULFITE CAREFULLY!!! 1. Clean the electrode with distilled water and make it dry. 2. Stir the electrode in the 2% sodiumbisulfite solution. 3. Push the "%" button and wait until the readout is stable. 5

7 When measuring has to be done in mg/l, the "mg/l" button has to be pushed. 4. Adjust to 0% of 0mg/l with adjustment screw "Z" at the side of the instrument. 5. Clean the electrode with distilled water and make it dry. For calibration of 100% or the maximum value of mg/l we need distilled water completely saturated with air. To realise this hang an aquarium pump in 1 litre distilled water and keep it blowing air into the water for ±20 minutes. 1. Clean the electrode with distilled water and make it dry. 2. Place the electrode in the with air saturated distilled water and stir carefully (±0,5m/s, magnetic stir). 3. Check if the temperature is stable by keeping the " C" button pushed. 4. When the instrument has to be calibrated in mg/l, Check the air pressure on a barometer and find the corresponding value in the table on page 10 at the actual temperature. 5. Wait until the value is stable and adjust at 100% or the maximum value of mg/l from the table with the adjustment screw "S" at the side of the instrument. 6. When the instrument is calibrated on "%" it is not possible to measure in mg/l. Then the instrument has to be calibrated in mg/l. 7. Dry the electrode. ALWAYS STORE THE INSTRUMENT AT A DRY PLACE!!! 2.4 Replacement of the membrane. When the readout is not stable and accurate anymore the membrane in the electrode has to be replaced. See also the drawings on page Remove quard cap from the electrode and let the electrolyte flew out of the electrode. 2. Remove cover cap. 3. Remove the membrane and clean the electrode parts. 4. Place the membrane over the top of the cover cap and press tight the guard cap. 5. Trim excessive membrane. 6. Fill electrolyte into the cover cap. Then twist the cover cap back on to the probe. 7. Calibrate the instrument again. 6

8 2.5 Notes - The zero adjustment of the instrument is very stable, the maximum deviation per month or longer is 3mg/l. - After replacement of the membrane and the electrolyte the instrument always has to recalibrated. The advised procedure of calibration with sodiumbisulfite is at the 1st, 2d and 3d day, then the 15d day and afterwards once in the month. In this way the instrument and the electrode are always well calibrated. - For the zero adjustment a deviation of 5ppm is acceptable. It is not necessary to repeat the zero calibration very often. The sodiumbisulfite solution has to be prepared just before calibration with distilled water in a 2% ratio. The storage time of this liquid is maximum one month, on the condition that the storage bottle will be well closed and will be stored dark. However it is better to make a new calibration liquid for every calibration by mixing 20 gr sodiumbisulfite with 1 litre distilled water. - Mainly during calibration of the zero the instrument has to reach it's value within 45 seconds. - When the electrode will be moved with a speed between 0,3 and 0,7 m/s in a sample, oxygen will flow into the sample water caused by the movement of stirring. For little sample water (±100cc) this will have a bigger influence as when much water is used (for example 1 litre). For this we advise to use at least 1 litre sample water. The opening of the sample cup is also important.. The bigger the surface the more oxygen will flow into the water compared to a small opening of the sample cup. - The best way to stir the water is with a magnetic stirrer. Manual is also possible but requires more handling from the user. - The membrane and the electrolyte have to be replaced when the zero adjustment is slow. The membrane and the electrolyte normally can be used for 5 or 6 months or longer. This can be checked as mentioned above. - The sodiumbisulfite powder and the magnetic stirrers can be obtained from Nieuwkoop BV or your own supplier. 7

10 3.2 Vervanging membraan / Replacement of the membrane Membrane replacement: It is necessary to replace the mebrane: - in case of breakage - in case of low sensitivity Operations: - Discharge the electrolyte - Remove protection 6 - Remove the old membrane - Position the new membrane directly in front of the cathode - Plug in the protection; the membrane must be flat against the cathode. - Refill with electrolyte as in step C Warnings: - Do not immerse the cable in the medium, do not damage the Membrane - Avoid contact of the connector with liquids - Do not touch electrodes during maintenance 9
